ARCHITECTURAL VANDAL RESISTANT FEATURES Kirlin’s architectural vandal resistant designs are ideal for vandal prone applications such as schools, hospitals, airports, transit stations, sports facilities, building exteriors and public areas. Designs include recessed, surface, cornice and wall mounts, featuring downlights and nightlights with specific designs for shallow plenum and concrete pour installations. Rustproof and corrosion resistant aluminum housing for cool operation and long luminaire life. Lightweight for easier installation.

MAXIMUM SECURITY FEATURES For especially demanding environments such as jails and psychiatric facilities, Kirlin offers our unique maximum security line of luminaires. Designs include extra strong extruded aluminum recessed, surface and cornice mounts including specific designs for shallow plenum and concrete pour applications. Adjustable reinforced housing mounting brackets. 6063-T6 tempered extruded aluminum housings (rustproof, cool operating and more than twice as strong as 14 gauge steel).

Kirlin’s strength in designing solutions for special applications such as vandal resistant and security fixtures provides you with an even greater range of opportunity and service. Several categories are worth highlighting:

A horizontal burn position usually has significant advantages when compared to a vertical lamp position. The key to achieving these advantages is through Kirlin’s superior fixture design and materials.

• TYPE IC: Type IC fixtures are designed to be installed in direct contact with insulation thereby minimizing the amount of uninsulated plenum space and significantly reducing energy costs. It has been proven* that if only 4.2% of a ceiling is uninsulated, heat loss increases a disproportionate 34%!

With a reflector and cone properly designed for a horizontal lamp, the following benefits are realized:

Kirlin’s numerous Type IC listed fixtures are identified in the Table of Contents and featured on the product pages. • TYPE IC AIR TIGHT HOUSING: To maximize energy efficiency, some states (i.e. Washington State) require less than 2 cfm of air flow through the fixture. By minimizing air flow through the fixture, “conditioned” air will not pass from the conditioned space into the plenum. Energy costs are thereby reduced. Kirlin offers a variety of recessed round and square luminaires with an “-AT” option and delineated as “Air Tight” in the product description. • EXCEPTIONAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Kirlin produces the largest selection of energy efficient luminaires available. Each fixture in this catalog with an exceptionally high efficiency rating (above 50%) is marked with this logo for quick EEE identification. • PREMIER PRODUCTS: Premier Products are superb examples of Kirlin’s Hallmarks of Quality and exceptional customer value. THE BENEFITS OF ALUMINUM HOUSINGS An important advantage of a horizontal burn position is a shallower fixture design. However, with smaller housings, heat becomes a greater design challenge. Kirlin’s all-aluminum “box” construction provides maximum surface area and superior heat dissipation qualities compared to steel, offering the following benefits: • LONGER LIFE: By keeping the interior of the fixture cool, component life is increased. For example, Kirlin compact fluorescent fixtures operate 5°C cooler than a similar steel housing, which can extend ballast life by 50%!

SPECIALIZED ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGNS and APPLICATIONS

• MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE: Fluorescent lamps and ballasts are designed to operate optimally at certain temperatures. As temperatures start to rise above this, lumen output of the fixture is reduced. Kirlin’s all-aluminum design helps keep operating temperatures at the appropriate levels so that lamp and ballast performance is maximized. • INSTALLATION EASE: With a horizontal lamp position and Kirlin’s housing design, fixture height may be reduced by up to 70% over vertical lamp designs. This greatly facilitates installation into shallow plenums. Aluminum’s lighter weight reduces installation time and cost due to much easier handling and ceiling load requirements. Many outdoor and indoor applications will experience high ambient temperatures where lamp/ballast life and lumen output may start to decrease appreciably. The result often is premature lamp and ballast failure along with a fixture that does not perform to the manufacturer’s published standards. Kirlin superior designs incorporating all aluminum construction, horizontal lamp position, optimized optics, and unique heat management properties, permit shallow fixture housings and superior photometric performance especially in high ambient temperature applications.
