letter from the editor

Music and Fashion, its like a marriage that we all dream off. Sometimes its disastrous, sometimes its a honeymoon, but there is never a dull momemnt.. And there is no divorce. Its a love that has lasted through the ages and stood the stress of time. For as far as we can look back in the past, music icons have set fashion trends that have been followed by millions. In this issue we profile some music icons, some fashion designers who focused their fashion on music, upcoming music bands that define fashion for a whole generation and mix it with fashion editorials shot in the theme of music. We are taking a risk with our cover this month and diverging from soft beautiful faces to showcase Far * East Movement shot against one of the most beautiful street murals I have yet seen in SOMA (San Francisco). This band loves San Francisco as their second home and their success signifies the coming of age for the Asian American youth in the mainstream music scene. They are also very fashionable and have very specific looks that are unique and classy with a pop-star funk. Best of all, these guys are cool and we identify with the passion we share together i.e ‘Reaching for the Sky’. Of course we have not forgotten about our loyal readers... You will find all the regular columns, street fashion, socialie style guide, coverage of major shows, love etc and a lot of beauty tips for our fashionista’s and fans. Don’t forget to check out the new face of the month Johanna Wischmann, we believe she is going to be a major model coming out of the Bay Area. Enjoy the issue.

San Francisco is one of the most prominent and expensive cities in the World and arguably one of the best places to live. Home to some of the worlds best attractions including the World Series Giants at AT&T Park, tourist attractions like Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf, The Hippie bohemian and Grateful Dead hangout Haight and Ashbury, Alcatraz Island, The cable cars, the Coit Tower & of course the one and only Golden Gate Bridge... So what’s missing? Well up until now San Francisco has never had an outdoor waterfront amphitheatre, but that is just about to change... With the coming of America’s Cup this year, the world’s biggest promotion company Live Nation partners with America’s Cup to build the cities 1st outdoor waterfront amphitheatre set between Piers 27/29 and kicking off June 2nd with a performance by the legendary STING. The new temporary, 9000 seat venue, called America’s Cup pavilion, plans to host a series of concerts and events throughout the summer. This is exciting news for San Francisco, music lovers everywhere and those just wanting to experience an outdoor musical vibe with a beautiful waterfront setting. Paolo Trolio

The Magical Fingers of Paolo Troilo is currently the most popular young Italian artist, known for expressive power in his works and the unique technique that he uses. In place of using brushes, Troilo paints with his fingers, achieving impressive figurative results. Participating in the most important European contemporary art fairs, he was selected for the 54th Venice Biennale, a remarkable honor. In addition to the 2012 Venice Biennale he made solo exhibitions in Milan (palazzo di Giustiza), Florence (Palazzo Antinori), Rome (Palazzo Cinque Lune), Istanbul (the Seed) and Berlin. His works are featured in some of the most important private collections and the present value of his work is three times higher than five years ago Paolo has chosen Coup d’Etat, the most exceptional designer space in San Francisco, to host his first American exhibition on March 13, 2013, which will run until May 2013. Troilo’s revolutionary art project, which is supported by a select group of collectors, designers, entrepreneurs and VIPs, will be showcased as he makes his first ever American debut after several years of being an accomplished and celebrated artist throughout Europe. The event will represent the beginning of a series of shows and art exhibitions in the United States to promote Troilo in select American galleries and museums. BAYFashion Magazine had the chance to ininterview this explosive new genre defining artist. We delved deep into Paolo trying to understand that source of his inspiration that makes him one of the most expressive artists of our time.

The Interview

How did you get your start in painting? It was one of those periods in life in which everybody asks you for a decision regarding love, life and work. So the decision I made was to not make any decision. I started with a pure expression of a thought not linked to anyone’s needs but my own.

20

Did you study art professionally or did someone teach you to paint?

Did your family or friends encourage you to become an artist?

I never studied art; I draw every day just for the love of doing it.

When I was a child, the 4 walls of my room was completely filled with a huge fresco made by my mother Lucia, now guess who encourages me...

Music 2013

What is your favorite piece of art and why? Guernica, Picasso, because it is so egoist and egocentric artist like him taken the responsibility of telling the pain of his Country. He sets people free to face the truth about war, through the strength of the distortion that only cubism can give. This masterpiece is a tattoo in the brain.

Who are your role models? Renato Guttuso, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bakon, Mario Sironi, Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Where do you see yourself as an artist in 10 years? I see myself all over the place, Everywhere.

How did being in the 54th Venice Biennale affect your career? For an artist, the first Biennale is a dangerous medal on the chest. As soon as you do it you have to forget to have done it. It’s good for the business, but dangerous for the pure and sincere mind of a young artist.

What do you wish viewers to see in your artwork? I wish viewers to see themselves, so they can see what happens when no colors, places, or objects hide their truth. You

have a unique approach to painting as you do not use any brushes. How did you come to paint with your fingers and do you ever use painting tools besides your hands? I started to draw when I was four. Around 10 years ago I decided to start painting and I bought everything, unfortunately (or fortunately) I forgot brushes. So accidentally I realized that I was the painting tool. Now to me it’s impossible to put something between me and my works.

Your exhibit at Coup d’Etat in San Francisco was your U.S. Debut. Where do you plan to exhibit in the United States following San Francisco? I would like to exhibit in Chicago and NYC.

Where do you draw your inspiration from? I draw inspiration from the daily study of the effect of a complicated life on a simple machine like us humans.

What is your creative process like? I translate my analysis and my thoughts into a minimal and strong scene by pencil and then I paint it in black and white only. My process is simple because if it wasn’t it would be fake.

What do you believe is the key element in creating art?

How would you describe your sense of personal style? One day, one simple man, out of the art-world, will be able to recognize your art and your message whit out any suggestion. That day you’ll reach your personal style. But the truth is that you have to exist for yourself first.

I perfectly know what the wrong element is: It’s in that moment when you’re asking yourself to create art that you stop to create it.

ABOUT PAOLO TROILO Paolo Troilo was born in Taranto, Italy in 1972 and currently lives and works in Milan, Italy. At the age of 4 years, Troilo was self-taught drawing. He began to paint in April 2005, and as the end of a long, unconscious preparation for a change, he started to paint with his fingers. He dips his fingertips into jars of acrylic, black and ivory, paint and spreads the color to his canvas. By abandoning the “tools of art,” Troilo achieves impressive figurative results. In 2011, Troilo was selected for the 54th Venice Biennale, an amazing honor. For more information about the artist, Troilo, please visit www.troilo54.com ABOUT COUP D’ ETAT Coup D’Etat, one of the designer go-to galleries in San Francisco, has garnered the attention of interior designers nationwide, due to the impeccable sense of style of owner Darin Geise. Since 2004, the showroom has grown to over 10,000 square feet and also features a line of furniture designed by Geise called Coup Studio. Coup d’Etat is made up of local artisans and has been featured in media outlets like the New York Times, San Francisco Magazine, 7x7 Magazine and California Home and Design. A Controversial Minx

Photos: Rihannadaily.com

Robyn Rihanna

Some artists are known for their flashy, memorable or daring fashion while others create a stir in the media through their contentious work. Rihanna happens to embody both of these. While many of her outfits may be too revealing, or even trashy to some, some have an edge to them that convey confidence and ooze in classy sex appeal. In my opinion, the songstress can effectively pull off both sides of the spectrum. Since her “Good Girl Gone Bad” album back in 2007, the provocateur has consistently created a controversial buzz in the media through her music, clothing choices and personal life. One can’t help but wonder if she has become more stylistically risqué and liberal due to events in her life and possibly honing her true style or if her management urges her to push the envelope, because as well al know, sex sells. Either way she is considered a style icon for many.

Below: Rihanna performs live at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York

Music 2013 Whether it is a sheer blouse or dress, revealing crop top or bondage attire Rihanna never fails to disappoint her audience’s shock factor while either performing or partying at the club. Her entire wardrobe is not consistent of salacious garments though, sometimes we see her dressed in something quite different and modest. For example, the red flowy custom Azzedine Alaia gown she wore at this year’s Grammys was very elegant and while it did not show an excessive amount of skin the artist looked sexy in her own right. Rihanna is the type of woman that can adopt many different styles and look equally great in all of them. She has dyed her hair in every shade, worn it short, partially shaved and long. She also mixes accessories that one would never think of wearing all at once. Her style is ever changing and I think it is a great way to speak to her fans and the masses in general.

Currently her fashion channels 90’s style, which can be seen in her new collection with River Island that debuted a London Fashion Week. The designs, which are a commercial extension of her personal brand, consist of bold stripes, crop tops, fitted garments and floor length skirts and dresses adorned with thigh high slits. Rihanna’s stylist, Mel Ottenberg, described her style to a T saying that it “is not afraid to take risks, it really breathes, it moves, it’s not too constricted or too contained or too caught up in the past; it’s just sort of unafraid and moving forward.” Once you have seen her collection you will see that it truly does represent her style as an artist and a woman. Rihanna has evolved stylistically through her music and her fashion, always at the top of her game. Controversy keeps her in the news and amongst gossipers but maybe that is what she is striving for because isn’t all media good media in a sense? She has also declared that she strives to be the “black Madonna” and if we think back Madonna was also quite a controversial figure at one point and still continues to be. She said “If I had to examine her evolution through time, I think she reinvented her clothing style and music with success every single time. And at the same time remained a real force in entertainment in the whole world.” I think this is precisely what Rihanna has also done and will most – likely continue to do. Whether Rihanna’s style is or is not your cup of tea or her lyrics too explicit for your ears one can’t deny she has grown into herself through both her music and fashion choices. Through her personal life and resulting decisions we see that no one is perfect; however, considering what she has been through I still think she comes out on top and makes the choices she does because she is doing her. Besides, confidence is always the best outfit. Rihanna at the 2013 Grammy Awards wearing a custom gown by Azzeine Alaia

True Classics Never Go Out of Style

John Varvatos Greek American Fashion Designer John Varvatos joined Polo Ralph Lauren in 1983. He then moved to Calvin Klein in 1990 where he was appointed head of menswear design and oversaw the launch of the men’s collection and the cK brand. In 1995, he returned to Ralph Lauren as Head of Menswear Design for all Polo Ralph Lauren brands and created the Polo Jeans Company. In late 1999, Varvatos started his own brand debuting his firs collection in New York in Late 2000.

Rugged joins refined with this Greek-American’s high fashion menswear line. As with all of Varvatos’ campaigns, his 2013 Spring/Summer clothing is drenched in “elegance” for the first time, he says. With these crisp whites and rich leathers, he is offering “an elegance that most young people don’t know, because they’ve never dressed up that much. They’ve worn a suit, but they’ve never really been elegant.” Being elegant doesn’t necessarily equate to being boring either, as a younger male wanting to dress hip might assume. Although Varvatos’ past lines may have had more of a relaxed look, his current selection is still quite very rock-and-roll, if you will. In fact, a rock, alternative or blues style musical influence has always been at the center of each campaign. The brand has also collaborated with Paul Weller and Miles Kane, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand, Perry Farrell, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Chris Cornell, Joe Perry, Ryan Adam and Slash. Rock-and-roll Hall of Fame legend Jimmy Page joins a more recent, relatively speaking, musician Gary Clark Jr., for the Spring/Summer campaign.Varvatos says, “Jimmy Page has been a music and fashion icon of mine since 1970. He has been a major influence and I am honored to call Jimmy a friend. Gary Clark Jr. is the real deal—amazing guitar player, singer, songwriter and friend. Having ‘The Master’ and the ‘Young Guitar-Slinger’ together in our campaign is a dream come true.” Opposites really do attract. Not only is “elegance” met with easiness, but we also see traditional mingling with contemporary. While the new collection is being promoted by means of images and videos, these musician’s talents are also being showcased. This strategy gives Varvatos’ brand leverage over other menswear lines because it is unique in that by converging both music and style he is able to reach a broader market. Through the contrast of established Jimmy Page and up and coming artist Gary Clark Jr. not only is Varvatos reaching out to rock enthusiasts old and new but with highlighting these artists he is also creating an experience for his customers. The casual-elegant John Varvatos line not only features clothing but also accessories such as hats, belts, eyewear, ties and even a shoe collaboration with Converse. All of these can be found in retail stores such as Neiman Marcus, Holt Renfrew, Saks Fifth Avenue and even the renowned underground music club CBGD, which has now been made into a retail space. The year 2000 was when Varvatos’ visions first came to life in his small line of rock ‘N roll driven garments. Within only five years of launching his line, the designer created a huge buzz. In 2000, he earned the acclaimed Perry Ellis Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as the most talented newcomer. A year later, the CFDA named him Designer of the Year. In 2005, this would be repeated as he surpassed Ralph Lauren for the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award. Varvatos is also a mentor on NBC’s Fashion Star.

/ Rock Star Profile - Tommy Lee

by Sason Bishope Parry

Rock’s bad boy drummer suits up and talks shop about Motley Crue, his love for EDM, fashion and his plans to take Methods of Mayhem to the top… Who wouldn’t want to be Tommy lee? He’s led a pretty amazing life with his good looks, that bay boy appeal, the gift of being a multi-talented musician, he’s been married to two blonde bombshells - Heather locklear and Pamela Anderson, he’s currently conquering the EDM world with a superstar DJ act, his side band Methods of Mayhem is heating up, he’s got hit reality TV shows and on top of this he’s one of the greatest and most innovative rock drummers on the planet - convinced yet? His latest over the top solo, is a mind blowing drum set that has everyone talking and leaves audiences in awe, as it has Lee banging his kit to a mix of house music, while he rolls around a looping rollercoaster track and that is all part of Motley Crue’s most recent tour extravaganza featuring all four original members. What you have to love most about Tommy Lee, is he makes no apologies for being exactly who he is, on and off camera, a genuine rock Badass, who has been blessed with the musical chops that give him the freedom to express himself through his music, tattooed rockstar persona, fashion statements and his iconic personality. Tommy Lee Bass was born in Athens, Greece to an American father and a Greek National and was raised in California, where he got his 1st drum kit at the age of four. He quit high-school to pursue a rock career, first performing with the band suite 19, before going on to found Motley Crue with Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Vince Neil on vocals. Motely Crue got its start opening up for rock icons, KISS in the early 80’s and soon starting enjoying its own brand of notoriety, in part due to Tommy Lee’s headline making persona. Their biggest mainstream break came when they played the legendary US Festival in 1983 and the rest is history, as Motley Crue went on to become one of the biggest heavy metal acts ever, selling more then 80 million records worldwide and performing sold-out tours, co-headlining OZZfest alongside Ozzy Osbourne and a recent residency in Las Vegas at the Joint, located in the Hard Rock Casino. Through the years, Tommy has been back and forth as a member of Motley Crue, but he has never stopped playing or being in the publics eye. What makes Tommy Lee more then just one of rocks greatest iconic superstar drummers is he’s a musical pioneer who is always thinking outside the box and one who lives and breathes beats 24/7, which gives him the ability not to be shoe-boxed and breaks down any walls or preordained thoughts that you might have about what he’s capable of doing next. Today Tommy’s got a lot to be happy about, as he is still at the top of his game as a solo artist and is making a mark for himself in the underground scene as much as his mainstream fame. His current musical endeavors include a sick DJ act, alongside longtime collaborator DJ Aero, that has quickly become one of North America’s hottest EDM Duo’s, with their electro house mixes and originals that have become fist pumping rave anthems, keeping the crowd engaged at their live shows with live Video mixing, sometime adding live drums and also bringing in the hip-hop edge that inspired his last Methods of Mayhem releases. Tommy is also working on a new Methods of Mayhem, which he plans to incorporate more electronic beats into.

The Interview SBP: So Tommy has life been treating you my man? TL:Its not sucking, that’s for sure!! Life’s good dude! SBP: You got so many musical talents and I’m assuming drums are your favorite, what’s your next favorite? TL: I do love the drums, but I also have a big love for singing, keyboards and guitar!!! SBP: What inspired you to want to play drums? TL: Not really sure!! It came early on, about 2 years old I started pulling out all the pots n pans in my parents kitchen and making noise!!! SBP: Motley Crue is a rock legend did you ever think you guys would be that big? TL: Not really! I knew we were good but when your 17 years old you don’t know shit!! So all this legendary stuff that has happened is all icing on the cake man! SBP: How is life today compared to back during the early Crue days? What’s your secret to enjoying life? TL: Life today is interesting and we don’t have nearly enough time and space in this magazine for me to put into words how life is properly, but I can tell you its a ride!! SBP: You always seem to be going non-stop and it always seems like a party, do you ever sleep? Do you ever see yourself slowing down? TL : Haha! There will be plenty of sleep time when I’m gone!! I just turned 50 dude and I’m going on 15, no signs of slowing in the near future here! SBP: You’ve got multiple other music projects, which do you enjoy the most? TL : I enjoy collaborating the most!! It’s always so exciting to share the creative process with other artists!!! The unexpected seems to captivate me!!!

SBP: I saw you play drums for Deadmau5 at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, how was that experience? TL: Both times were amazing my man!! SBP: What is the best experience you and Aero have had playing live? TL: Honestly, we have the best time all the time! In front of 500 or 50,000 peeps! SBP: What do you think about the current explosion of EDM into Pop Culture in the U.S? TL: Its great that its become so popular but with that being said, its also becoming the same ole same ole! You see one DJ you almost have seen them all!! This is why I’m working on putting a new Methods of Mayhem album together that’s going to freak some people out! Remember when Prodigy 1st came out, were going to actually play electronic music on our instruments LIVE! That’s one of the big problems in EDM today, nothing is live anymore and people can smell that shit miles away!!! SBP: Who or what inspires you in music today? TL: Life, new technology, sounds, drums, melody, SBP: Whats next for Tommy Lee? TL: METHODS OF MAYHEM new album and shows Peace and Anal Grease bro!!!!!!!!!

UP NEXT

SBP: You have had quite an amazing long career as a drummer for Motley Crue & celebrity and for the past several years you’ve been blowing up with your EDM project with DJ Aero. How did that come about and how did you meet Aero? TL: Me and Aero have been rock’n shit since 2000!!! I met him when I was looking for a DJ for my Methods Of Mayhem band and we’ve been making beats and music ever since. We have a new EP that just came out! Here is EP on itunes : https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/msnd-single/ id595374732 SBP: Many people say, now that EDM is become mainstream, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. What would you like to say to your rock fans and the EDM fans about your DJ project? TL: Like I said earlier, I’ve been doing this for 13 years man! Ain’t no band wagon going on here bro! I think people just know that being a drummer I’ve been into beats and electronic music forever!

The Asian Boys who rocked HipHop! by Sason Bishope Parry

Music 2013

Far East Movement’s dirty- bass – electro hip hop sound has been the soundtrack to many clubs nationwide since their ground breaking hit, “Like A G6”, which featured female newcomer DEV, launched them into the stratosphere. Meet the four fashionably hip and ultra cool members, Prohgress, J-Splif, DJ Virman and Kev Nish, all of Asian decent and each playing off each other, but still maintaining a unique individual quality of their own. They live and breathe club & Hip Hop music, but don’t classify them as just another electro pop club act, as they are much more and like to keep their sound fresh and deeply rooted in Hip Hop, while they spit good vibe party rhymes with melodic hooks to dirty bass heavy, electro grooves that keep you moving. As Kev Nish, describes it, “Dirty Bass is LA electro –rap meets Miami booty shake, meets Dutch house and the lifestyle that embodies that.” When they were originally signed, label executives said their electro party sound wasn’t the norm on radio, but fast forward a few years and dance music is now everywhere and the group is in nonstop touring demand with shows all over the world, has had multiple hit singles featuring collaborations with Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, FloRida, LMFAO, Lil Wayne, One Republic and Lady Gaga to name a few and recently played at President Obama’s inaugural celebration. The group got its start back in Highschool when J-Splif (Jae Choung) met Prohgress (James Roh) & Kev Nish, both of who used to intern at Interscope. They came together, calling themselves MC anonymous. The last member DJ Virman (Virman Coquia) was a DJ on the popular Los Angeles radio station Power 106 and got invited to the trio’s rehearsal and immediately joined as the fourth member and the rest is history. Currently the group is working on their upcoming new album and also out on a promotional radio tour that features a “Girls Night Out” party at stops.

/ Featured Music Band - The Interview

by Sason Bishope Parry

SBP: How has life been treating you guys? I heard you have a new single “Turn Up The Love,” tell us about it.

SBP: You all have a keen fashion sense and style, do you style your own clothes? Who are some of your favorite designers?

SBP: How would you describe’s Far East Movement’s sound? FEM:Alternative pop. Mash up music.

FEM: thankful for every day. Been touring non stop and in the studio working on music. Our single “Turn Up The Love” was inspired by tour life and feeling the love and energy from the audience. We wanted to put out a song that captured the positive vibes n love people share at a live show.

FEM: We work with our team at Transparent Agency in Downtown LA who are a team of artists n designers we put together, to customize certain pieces for different album shoots n music videos. No designers in particular but feelin brands like Christopher Shannon, KTZ, vivienne Westwood, Phillip lim, Balenciaga.

SBP: You’ve done some really cool musical collaborations from One Republic and Snoop Dogg to new artists like Tyga and Dev. How is collaborating with such a wide range of artists? Any collaborations coming up?

We started working the song overseas first and we’re extremely grateful to our fans internationally for making the song top 10 in 10 countries. Excited that the Bay Area has started reppin the song.

SBP:What do you think about the current explosion of EDM into Pop Culture in the U.S?

SBP:You’ve had quite a run since your since your break out smash, “Like A G6”. What were you doing before you broke big? FEM: Still feel like we haven’t broken big yet, with every show and song we approach it like we just started. Before we were signed to a major label we were doing exactly the same thing... making records, working them online, making content and touring.. Now we’re a bit busier tho haha.

54

FEM: It’s beautiful. It opens the door for more producers and outside the box collaborations, which in the long term expands where popular music as a whole can be taken to. SBP: Who inspires you musically? Are there any new artists you think we should be checking out? FEM: Always stay inspired by the classics from the beastie boys, daft punk, snoop, boys 2 men, PAC, biggie, nirvana, linkin park, muse, Robyn. There’s a few new artists on our label Cherrytree we’re really feeling from Jessie Ware, Willie Moon and Michael Kiwanuka.

FEM: The Collabs are a dream come true as fans of music and also a challenge artistically. It’s an honor other artists share our vision and let our work represent their brands. The biggest factors when collabing with a wide range of artists is keeping in mind each artists brand along with our own along with creating a sound and topic everyone’s into. Right now were working on an EDM electro trap project with a new artist producer named Rell The Soundbender called Murder Was The Bass. SBP: What else is coming up for Far East Movement this year? FEM: will be on a Turn Up The Love world tour most of the year, releasing a remix album of Dirty Bass called GRZZLY and releasing a collaboration with Japanese clothing brand A Bathing Ape.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Wanz “Thrift Shop” Music Video This Seattle rapper & his producer Ryan Lewis have been busting out mixtapes for years and this debut single was released on their independent label and became an unexpected sleeper hit peaking at #1 on Billboard 100 and selling over 3M copies. The video follows the lyrics & shows them hitting thrift shops and having fun.

Afrojack featuring Chris Brown “As Your Friend”

This superstar Dutch DJ, with 2 Grammy’s under his belt, has been blasting out club hit after hit and for this latest he teams up with R&B vocalist Chris Breezy and the result is a fist pounding house anthem and the 1st peak at his highly anticipated 1st studio album.

Man, if you haven’t picked up this hit-makers new album, “Unorthodox Jukebox”, you’re really missing out. The newest single is a throwback jam that brings back the likes of Motown with its cool R&B swag, slow beat and lyrics about looking back on why you lost that special love – the video shows Mars showing off his piano skill.

“I knew you were trouble”

This new song from the superstar singer songwriter is one of her best and a darker edge for the mostly vibrant good vibe pop songs were used to from her. What makes the song special, besides the great songwriting, is the edgy dubstep breakdown that comes unexpected & seems to be everywhere these days – the video is a must see!

This irresistible track by American DJ/producer Harry “Baauer” Rodriguez, was released a while back on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, but has recently become the Gangnum style track of 2013 going viral and making heads and booties bounce with its heavy bass groove – but beware, this track will make you break out into a full frenzy!

“When I Was Your Man”

“How Long”

Nine inch nails mastermind Trent Reznor’s side project with his sexy wife Mariqueen Maandig is picking up steam. This single is a nice departure from NIN, but not too far, as it’s fused with electronic beats and wifey takes up the vocal role with a layered hook that is both powerful and beautiful. Video is dark art at its best.

Talent Finder Emerging Artists

Presented by Mediaboxx

The number 3 seems to be a magic number for these 3 Italian born DJ producers, as its only been a short 3 months since one of them landed in San Francisco, they placed number 3 in the Pyramind International song contest, Testpress out of more then 150 worldwide submissions, their recent EP release is entitled, of course “3” and their track, “Swingers”, reached the number 3 position on the trackitdown Electro House chart – meet Giorgio Blossi, Massimiliano Carraro and Vincenzo Bux, the trio that make up the newest EDM import Speakerbomb. The trio met in 2005 and realized they had a mutual love for electronic dance music. Bringing together Giorgio’s seasoned musical production skills with the DJ skills of both Massimiliano and Vincenzo, they quickly formed their 1st project, Altered Beats, which showcased an electro house sound. Then in 2006, they changed their name to Speakerbomb and refined their sound to be more commercial, but still maintain an edge they call - Turbo Funk - which Giorgio describes as a sound that brings the old 70’s and disco vibe to the next level, fueled with aggressive bass-lines and bouncy grooves. These days it seems like electronic dance music is everywhere in the U.S., so for these 3 talented Italians who barely speak English, their dream of taking Speakerbomb to the American masses might be closer then they think.

Center Stage: GREG GORDON CEO and founder of PYRAMIND - MUSIC production school for DJ’s and producers. I recently had the opportunity to catch up with Pyramind music School founder and music producer, Greg Gordon and speak about music, the explosion of Electronic Dance Music in the US and how Pyramind is helping music dreams come true. SBP:You are the founder of Pyramind, which is one of the biggest schools for DJ’s, producers and musicians, how did it all start? GG: It started back in the late nineties when I was invited to develop a course in Digital Music Production for SF State University’s Multi Media Studies Program. That led me to offering workshops out of my studio facilities and then partnering with Matt Donner to build out a bigger and deeper curriculum. The curriculum has now grown to over thirty five classes including training for Pro-tools, Logic, Reason, Ableton Live, Music Theory, Keyboard performance, Sound Design, DJ classes and more.stream commercial crowd so the music I play, has to change. SBP:Pyramind has had some pretty big music names come through your studio facilities, who are some of the biggest? GG: Well I’m not a huge fan of name dropping but over the years we’ve had : Merl Saunders & Jerry Garcia, Joan Baez, John Cale, Joe Satriani, Metallica, Bill Ortiz from The Santana Band, Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation, DJ Chebbi Sabba and a really cool emerging duo that I think shows a lot of promise called Bishopemagnetic. I know there is a bunch more I’m just not remembering right now because I’m at SXSW and my head is spinning!! SBP: Pyramind is making dreams come true for future producers, musicians & DJ’s, how does that make you feel? You also have a scholarship program right? GG It’s a prime motivating force and it really does inspire us. Yes, we have a scholarship program that we launched this year in tandem with SoundCloud. SBP: Who are you the most excited about in music today?

The Disc Jockey to Watch

Paul Hemming

On any given weekend night at 540 Howard Street, you can catch an electric house DJ set from its proprietor and the vision behind the Zen Compound. The Seattle-born and San Francisco based DJ/producer, nightclub owner and record label executive, has been heating up San Francisco’s nightlife scene for more then a decade. In the 90’s he founded Zen records, a mom and pop record store, which primarily focused on dance music. When the store closed its doors, he leaned all his artistic energy into DJing and a desire to open a unique venue that could house all his artistic passions. In 2007, his dream became a reality as he launched the Zen Compound, home to the Temple Nightclub, Prana restaurant, and the Temple Music Group, which together combined Paul’s artistic vision & passions and creating a musical collective. By launching a label and a nightclub together, Paul has been able to fuel his desire to DJ at night, as well as work on his music productions by day. His DJ sets have taken him from coast to coast including sets at Burning Man, Miami’s WMC and many other hot spots, as well as continuing to build his fan base with his residency at Temple. His music production’s span many genres from chunky disco grooves through richly melodic house music, solid break tunes and organic down-tempo tracks and he has multiple releases under his own, Temple Music Group imprint. Paul’s uses his savvy knowledge of music from all of his experiences to define exactly what the audience wants to hear, to program his DJ sets and to sign new talent to his label. Paul Hemming is more then just you’re average DJ, he’s musical visionary who continues to break new ground and all from a holistic and organic approach. GG: I’m really excited for the Tumbleweed Wanderes. They’ve been touring their asses off and I just saw them play at SXSW the other night and they’re really jelling in a beautiful way. I’m also excited about all the great new technology that keeps influencing music making in so many cool ways. The Ableton Push is a great example of this. I just don’t like it when technology get’s in the way of a great performance or the human connection. At the end of the day music has to come from the heart. SBP: Pyramind just recently launched its Online training programs...Who is that catered to and is that a good way to study music? GG: Our online learning is designed for anyone who wants access to our great instructors and curriculum but doesn’t have the time or ability to come to our ground campus in SF. We’ve put a lot of time and care into the creation of our online classes and give you the option of taking them as a video only experience, what we call “basic” vs. “premium”, which gives you access to the instructor for direct feedback of your work, group learning with your peers as well as grading and TA support. You can find out more about our online classes at: http://www.pyramind.com/training/online-classes/ SBP: Whats next for Greg Gordon? GG: I’m hoping a whole lot more creativity. Pyramind will continue to build out its online learning offerings and pursue creative and audio-post work in the video game sector. Our ground campus will continue to grow and to support the local SF community with great events like TestPress and Elite sessions. I’ll continue to lead the company in those growth sectors and grow our international reach via some exciting developments I can’t talk about yet. But I’m personally interested in writing, performing and producing great music. I really enjoy staying connected to the music. I hope to be able to continue to make time for all these things. I know it might sound crazy but it’s what keeps me young and vital. That and my awesome wife and three year old daughter!

Guitar Tribute Lenny Kravitz

Presented by Magneta Picks

This month we salute Lenny Kravitz, an American multi-talented musician, singer and of course guitar hero – Lenny can do it all, but he loves his guitar. When Lenny was young he used to walk by the local guitar store and stare at the guitars in the window – the rest is history as his songs and guitar playing have left a mark on musical history for many years to come.

A musical way to say I “ Love You”

Fashion Photographer: Gail Bowman

Wedding ceremonies – what would they be like without music? A processional, a recessional, some special song, the first dance, all of these have evolved and standardized over time to the point where certain pieces of music have become commonplace. The most often heard processional, known as “Here Comes the Bride”, is actually a bit of music known as the “Bridal Chorus” extracted from an opera by Richard Wagner entitled Lohengrin, composed in 1850. What may not be as well-known about this piece (unless you saw the opera) is that“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the story it is followed by several guests at the wedding getting murdered! The usual recessional, known as the “Wedding March”, was composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1842, was composed as part of his Suite of Incidental Music for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Shakespeare (also a story with themes of conflict, problems, and the darker side of love). That piece was later popularized at the wedding of the daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince William Frederick of Prussia in 1858. It is interesting to note how the original associations of these pieces have been somewhat trumped by convention. Among the other processional options usually heard are: Erik Satie’s Gymnopédie #1, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, the Trumpet Voluntary in D by Jeremiah Clarke, Bach’s Air on the G String (that’s the lowest string on a violin, incidentally, not the underwear), and a couple of other pieces by Bach, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and Sheep May Safely Graze. As for recessional options, the possibilities are far more flexible. Beyond the usual Wedding March, anything uplifting, rousing, or fun, may be used to send the newlyweds and the guests on their way to the reception to celebrate. Using songs with lyrics is a far more flexible approach, and those selections usually come from either popular culture at the time. A sentimental song the lovers share as a special memory, or one which has particular personal meaning for them, or it could be something classic, timeless, from any era. Ostensibly these kinds of songs will include words of love, whether serious

62

or comic, ironic, serious, romantic, or optimistic (and hopefully, not tragic). The list of such songs is far too long to suggest here, but suffice to say the music is usually chosen with these kinds of considerations – personal relevance, loving expressions, and cultural popularity or convention. As love is undeniably the most common theme of songs by far, it certainly makes sense that we would include them in ceremonies and occasions involving love. Do our choices in such situations really matter? In other words, do they set the tone and tenor of what the future may bring? Do our musical choices influence reality? Perhaps if you believe what Plato had to say in his Republic regarding the use of certain musical scales and types of music at different occasions, and the grave danger of mismatching them. Granted, those are the sensibilities of twenty-four centuries ago. However, most of us would admit that music indeed has power, and that which music will be used for which occasion is not a small consideration at all. Whether it is for shopping love is undeniably the most in a store, waiting in an elevator, a first date, common theme of songs by far a birthday, a funeral, an inauguration, a religious event, a military exercise, an anniversary, or a wedding, the selections indeed do matter. They set the ambience and emotional orientation toward the situation, which is certainly important if you are a retailer wanting to sell your product, or anyone wanting to put your participants in a state of mind appropriate to the moment. Song lyrics have a much more obvious connection to what they accompany, but the importance of the choice of instrumental music for any occasion should not be underestimated. Music has long been a part of human history, and during that time has been used as an integral part of social affairs. Whether its your wedding, or any special occasion, consider the standards, but consider also choosing what best fits what you want to say, and how you want to say it. Even though it is said that music is the language of love, music can also say things that words cannot. Therefore, know well what it is you want to say, and let the music take care of the rest…

/ Runway Showcase - Sacramento Fashion Week

SAC FASHION WEEK Sacramento Fashion Week was a week of perfectly organized fashion events in Sacramento. Under new management this year (DMR productions) while retaining the core team behind the show, this week long event delivered as promised!

The event kicked off on Sunday the 24th of February with a launch party at the (Mix) hottest club in downtown Sacramento and culminated at the same venue on Sat the 2nd of March with a party that went on till the wee hours of the morning. BAYFashion covered the event for the two main runway days; Friday March 1st S/S Designer Showcase and March 2nd for the F/W Designer Showcase. The designers featured on Friday included Monica Buo, Rebecca Cahua , Britboy Fashions, Maisha Bahati, Rampant, Niv Elliot, Kingstribe by Samuel Parkinson & Nelli Rosh. Maisha Bahati has been a favorite of the editors at BAYFashion for quite

some time and she did not dissapoint. Maisha is the mistress of the floor length body hugging maxi dresses and jumpsuits. Her dresses are very flattering to a woman with curves and also perfect for the calorie counting supermodel. The other designer who impressed us from the Friday lineup was Rebecca Cahua. Her collection consisted of pant suits, evening gowns (an extremely sexy backless ensemble really caught our attention) with an edge that was different yet refreshing. Friday evening ended in a Gala at the Citizen Hotel and then off to the Mix for a night of partying and making new fashionable friends. One of the highlights of the evening were the $100K to $250K watches

by Aquamarine jewelers floating around the wrists of the event organizers and models at the party. Will Rodriguez of DMR productions was all smiles and full of energy pumped up for the next days show.

Kiev (Ukraine) for this show and brought with him a collection mostly consisting of leather jackets and long coats which were not only fashion forward but also crafted with tailoring of the highest quality.

Saturday the F/W show did not dissapoint. BAYFashion publisher Chris Rojas and his wife Kelly were seated in the VIP row as some of the best designers from Sacramenton, San Francisco and Russia (Sacramento has a large Russian community) showed off their latest collections. The audience consisted of the top socialites and movers & shakers of Sacramento, who cheered on local models who strutted down the runway.

Another designer from Saturday who caught our attention was Sacramento’s own Michael Kouri. His line (NOLAN KOURI) was the outstanding collection of the show, presenting a full 2013 Fall ensemble for women. Formal wear, evening wear, long gowns, clubbing attire and Jackets to fight the cold were all present in this collection from a young designer we have witnessed over the years, and he keeps getting better by leaps and bounds.

The lineup consisted of designers Yennie Zhou, Karisa Gold, Felix Rodionov, R Douglas, Love by Janelle Cardenas, Michael Kouri & San Francisco’s own Vasily Vein.

One of the most amazing things about this event is the warmth of the people who put this event together. We left wishing that this kind of camerederie would infect the fashion networks in San Francisco too and help lift up the industry.

BAYFashion loves Vasily Vein and we have showcased him a few times on our pages and he stayed true to his reputation delivering a complete womens collection that would do the runways of Paris proud. Felix Rodionov who flew down from

San Francisco has its own distinctive fashion sense, we are a city of fashionista’s and we know how to define style. New York in winter is mostly a black & white affair, with black jackets and umbrellas underscoring the outdoor landscape... In San Francisco however, color never leaves the streets. San Franciscans brave the cold temperature wearing some of the best fines, designer labels oreven handmade garments around town. Proving that San Francisco fashion is still the hottest fashion city even when it’s not so hot outside.

Nes Plus Ultra

THE LATEST IN LUXURY When BAYFashion met Cantamessa.

78

by Hadi Labrang

Music 2013

The Interview with Robert Kheit: Hadi: To start off this grand topic, what defines a typical luxury jeweler? Robert:I don’t like to use the word typical, so let’s just define the luxury jeweler. First of all, it is someone who creates masterpieces of excellent design, quality and craftmanship. Secondly, luxury jeweler has to create unique and recognizable pieces. Hadi: When did you start Cantamessa? Robert: Cantamessa jewelry company goes back to 1939. It used to be a factory and we used to design and manufacture jewelry for the most famous and luxurious jewelry companies. We also used to work exclusively with Royal Families. For example, we did collection for Princess Caroline and Princess Charlene of Monaco. I bought Cantamessa company about 4 years ago in order to build the brand and move it forward to world’s jewelry stage. Since then we opened a showroom in New York, flagship boutiques in Ukraine and Russia and distributions in the best jewelry stores throughout the world. Hadi: What was the first vision behind the first collection? Robert:The first idea that we had was to create pieces inspired by flora and fauna each customizable with an array of precious stones set in gold. We wanted to create the collection that would be most celebrated for its detailed, theatrical pieces that emulate natural movement and create individuality. Hadi: Is the vision still the same or has evolved with time, and if so, how? Robert: We have accomplished our initial idea very successfully and continue moving forward the same direction by creating not only pieces, but also techniques that no other jewelry company can repeat. Hadi: I met the amazing Cantamessa ladies at the Maserati event in New York city and I hear you opened a showroom in New york, where is it and why the sudden urge to go global? Robert: Our showroom in New York is located on Fifth avenue and 48th street in the most famous jewelry building in the city. I have been passionate about jewelry business for 30 years and I used to work with many companies but throughout my jewelry practice I have never seen the brand of such high quality and design as Cantamessa. So this is why in my mind there was no doubt. I had to share this beauty with the world. Hadi: I had the tremendous opportunity to try the DRAGON ring, can you tell us more about that piece? Robert:This is one of the pieces of our first collection. It weighs 54.50g of gold and has 17ct of diamonds. I don’t like stating prices, everything is upon request. You just have to try it once and you will never want to take it off your finger. I guess you had the same feeling when you tried it on :) Hadi: What type of women does your jewelry line appeal to, in other words who is the typical Cantamessa women? Robert:The Cantamessa woman is the one who wants only the best. She wants to have something that no one else does and is not afraid of risking, experimenting and being different. She is not afraid of attention and very confident. The age here does not matter much... Hadi: Can you give us some recognizable personalities Cantamessa designs for or that have worn your pieces? Robert: Cantamessa jewelry attracted the attention of A-list celebrities and socialites such as Daphne Guinness, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Susan Sarandon, Carol Alt, Michelle Harper, Irina Shayk and many more who wore our pieces to high-profile functions and events. Hadi: I also know that you make state-of-the-art custom pieces, please tell us about that? Robert: Yes, we do make custom pieces, some of which were mentioned in Sotheby’s catalogue several years ago. But basically we can produce anything that customer desires. I will repeat myself, we are creating not only pieces, but also techniques. This is why our possibilities are unlimited.. Hadi: Can you tell our readers a bit more about the ordering process? Robert: If the customer would like to purchase something that we have in stock then the process is pretty simple. If the order is something custom made, then we usually are taking 50% deposit, produce the piece in Italy (it takes approximately 1 month for production and shipment) and the rest 50% we are charging upon delivery of the item. Hadi: What are a few new luxury trends on your radar for 2013? Robert: Cantamessa does not follow trends. We are more tending to CREATE our own. So for now it is our little secret which will be revealed quite soon. Hadi: In your opinion, what is THE must-have piece for a women in all the collections so far? Robert: There are a lot of MUST HAVE pieces. For example, my wife has them all and she cannot spend one day without at least trying them on every morning. But in my opinion, must have piece are our Medusa and Medusina rings, Anturium ring and Rosa (see attached) as well as Central Park earrings which can be combined. You can purchase longer and shorter version and put them together. It is basically a charm earring.

CIRCA is about that magical moment, where the past, present and future all combine into one which is appropriate since they opened in August 2006 and are still packing the place. This versatile restaurant scene can be stylish for any experience; brunch, corporate party, drinks, dinner, dancing. It’s kind of like your favorite go-to bag or purse that works well with any outfit or any occasion. Circa is well known for their bottomless mimosa brunches on Sundays and Wine Wednesdays (about $20 per bottle) and therefore always has a packed house. They are also becoming quite famous for large group birthday parties due to their space and affordable prices. What you might not know about Circa is that they are an amazing space to have a private corporate dinner meetings or cocktail parties. Their private upstairs area features its own full bar and can seat 40 and hold 60 standing. It is a classy environment with oak walls and a modern white flower photograph spanning the booths along the wall. It was designed by Michael Brennan whom has designed some of the most beautiful restaurants in San Francisco, including Jardiniere, Farallon, and Tartare. BAYFashion Spring Love Party 2.27.2013: The BAYFashion Spring Love issue release party at La Mar Cebicheria on the Embarcadero was one of the most fashionable parties the city has seen in recent times. Over 400 invited guests folked to La Mar for this after work fashion mixer on a Wednedsday. The occasion was the first vieweing of the Spring Love issue of BAYFashion Magazine and there we plenty of those lying around for everyone to take one home. The issue consisted of some of the most extreme Spring Couture dresses from around the world, shot in France, New York and San Francisco. The 4 member BAYFashion team that covered New York Fashion Week, also made sure that some of the most elegant fashion coming this Fall was featured in the issue.

86

San Francisco fashionista’s took up the challenge of attending this party and put on a show! The fashion on display was something that you would expect in fashion magazine parties in New York or

Paris. Many of the most elegant and ultra fashionable socialites of San Francisco made a point to come and mingle at this party showing off the best of their winter 2013 wardrobe. If you have it, this was the place to flaunt it as BAYFashion Fashion Police was in attendance picking out the most outstanding ensembles from the crowd full of elegantly dressed people. The event was sponsored by Budweiser ‘Becks Sapphire’, La Mar and Spicy Vines Wines along with Burke Williams Spa and Roche Bobbois.

Black, milky white, pink, taupe and mushroom nail polish colors made a strong statement on the runways. Coral, fuchsia, aqua, sea green and orange were found both in pastel as well as metallic finish. At Chanel French manicure was chic and elegant.

Matte Lips Shades of red, hot pink, fuchsia and nude, in glossy as well as matte and opaque finish were seen on several runways like Burberry Prorsum, Prada and Jason Wu.

Bold Eyebrows

Shades of red, hot pink, fuchsia and nude, in glossy as well as matte and opaque finish were seen on the runways. Burberry Prorsum, Prada and Jason Wu opted for matte red lips for their models keeping the rest of the look neutral and modern.

No matter what the season trends are, rosy cheeks will always be there because you cannot look beautiful without looking healthy. At BOTTEGA VENETA models wore pink blush exhibiting youthful glow.

Natural Makeup

Aquatic Eyeshadow Blue and green eyeshadow was big trend in many runway shows such as Dior and Michael Kors. Sparkle aquatic shades look great with smoky eye! For the fair skin, Lighter pastel-y shades are the great choice.

Well-hydrated and perfectly primed skin can never go out of fashion. At Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren models wore natural dewy foundation with minimal makeup. Lips were kept natural and moist. In order to get that look use a hydrating mask followed by a moisturizer. Once your skin is prepared you only need a little amount of foundation to look fresh. For lips use a sheer lipstick or a lip-gloss. Photo: Getty Images & Venturelli

STEP BY STEP

MAKEUP by Emma Loyola-Sheek

1 base

Start by applying your favorite pre make-up products such as moisturizer/ primer or both. Use a cosmetic sponge or foundation brush apply the base/foundation Note: - Foundation coverage can be built form light coverage to full coverage. - For light coverage apply a thin coat of foundation - For medium to heavy coverage apply first layer of foundation and allow some dry time then stipple (dab) on additional foundation where desired and blend with the sponge or brush.

2 concealor Concealer provides additional coverage and minimizes imperfections such as: blemishes, under eye circles, rosacea, or discoloration Note: - Concealer is usually a slightly lighter tone than the skin - Concealer can also be used as your high lighter.

3 contour 5 blush & lips Using a blush brush apply blush on the apples of the cheeks. Outline lips with lipliner and define the shape of the lips, then add favorite lip color either lipstick or lip gloss. For the final touch push the natural eyelashes into the false lashes by using a disposable wand and mascara. This blends the natural lashes into the falsies. Apply mascara to the bottom lashes for a completed look. Tip: for fuller looking lips use a darker lip liner in corners and exterior rim of the lips and, blend the medium toned lipstick into the darker lip liner. WATCH THE VIDEO Click or Scan the QR Code

Contour the face with a matte warm brown tone or a matte bronzer using a blending brush. Note: - In the tutorial I contoured and high lighted the models face heavily so the viewers could see the contouring placement more easily. For a much less dramatic look use less product or blend contouring with a cosmetic sponge. - Placement for contouring darker matte tone includes: the face perimeter, cheek depressions, the sides of the nose, neck and jaw line for a less prominent jaw. - Placement for high lighting with lighter matte or frosty tone includes : the forehead, under eyebrows, bridge of the nose, the deepest darkest part of the under eye area, the cheek bones, the center above the lip and the center below the lip.

4 eyes

Apply eye primer with a concealer brush. Eye primer prevents eyeshadows from creasing during the coarse of the day. Then use matte brown tones contour and define eyelid crease. Blend the darker brown tones into medium tones within the crease. Apply a light frosty nude eyeshadow on the eyelid. Blend the light nude tone into the brown tones. Either a gel or liquid liner can be used on the top eyelid for a sharp look. Use a dark brown pencil liner on the bottom and smudge it for a blended look. Apply the false eyelashes using lash adhesive. After adding the lash glue to the strips wait approximately 20-25 seconds to allow the adhesive to become tacky. This allows for a easier application. Note: - Applying eyeliner first helps the lashes appear more natural because if the falsies are applied slightly askew the eyeliner conceals the gap between the false lashes and real eyelashes.

YVETTE ARMENDARIZ

Tell us something about Yvette the makeup artist

Favorite product and product line:

Yvette: I have a deep love and passion for makeup. It all started when I had the opportunity to take a cosmetology course while I was in high school. During the course I discovered my natural talent for creating beauty. I have an eye for new trends and creativity and I love being able to share it with the world.

Yvette: I have a lot of favorite products but if I have to choose it would be M.A.C. Cosmetics lashes #48, Femme Couture Enhanced Illuminator which I use to mix with the foundation for a dewy look. M.A.C. highlighters to enhance cheek bones, forehead and the bridge of the nose and Ph Matchmaker bronzer from Physician’s Formula for contouring the face.

Definition of makeup & perception of beauty

What is your favorite makeup trick?

Yvette:: To me makeup is to focus on one’s natural beauty and to bring it out with the right techniques. Cosmetic are just one element of an entire image; hair, clothing, accessories and personality are extensions of makeup. It is all about enhancing what you have and making those beautiful features you already possess brought out with a well-blended and flawless finish. I love to see the expression on the face of my every satisfied client.

Your source of inspiration:

Yvette: My love of fashion and art is my fountain of inspiration. Being surrounded by creativity and people with the same talent always motivate me. Facial features automatically inspire me and I picture all the amazing looks in my mind that I can create with my colors and tools.

Favorite tool:

Best beauty tips for the readers:

Yvette: Taking care of your skin should be your first priority when it comes to beauty. Never go to sleep with your makeup on because in the long run you will see the damage it does to your skin. Keeping your skin cleansed, well hydrated, wearing moisturizer and lip balm with SPF will keep your skin in great condition for years to come.

Future Plans:

Yvette: I hope to be in L.A. and become a celebrity makeup artist. My goal and dream is to make it big in this industry. But I don’t want to just stop at makeup so I would love to experiment with other artistic fields and try to excel in them.

THE WORK

Yvette: Favorite tool has to be my blending brush. I can work with the blending brush and create an entire eye look. Key to a perfect makeup is to avoid harsh lines.

Yvette: My favorite makeup trick is giving the illusion of fuller lips by outlining the lips with lip liner that is similar to your natural lip color.

“Being involved in the modeling industry was never planned for me. It just happened. I remember my first photo shoot, I had no idea what I was doing! But the more I modeled, the more fun it became. My favorite thing about modeling is getting to meet so many different people. There is never a dull moment in modeling. There is so much passion in the industry, mostly everyone involved loves what they do. There are so many strong women in the modeling world. I would like to be as inspiring to others as some of the top models are to me. I can’t wait to see where my life goes with modeling. Everyday is a new adventure and a new experience. ”
