Commitment simply means sticking until the very end and giving your 100%. You see, commitment is a choice, a decision you’ve made when you give out your YES.

Balayan branch renders “KMBI Master Chef”

KMBI Calamba mounts Center Officer’s Retreat

KMBI Calamba branch mounted a one-day retreat and team building activity for 144 center officers on May 26 at the Happy J. Family Resort in Calamba, Laguna.

Adapted from a reality cooking game show, KMBI Balayan branch render its own version of “Master Chef” in the first ever Kitchen Sportsfest dubbed as “KMBI Master Chef.” 70 program members participated on the said event held at the All for Christ Church Brgy. Salong, Calaca, Batangas on May 26, 2012. “With this activity, we aimed at showcasing talents of our program members in cooking and budgeting. This activity also enhanced their leadership, decision making and team building,” said Carol Ortega, Balayan branch program unit supervisor. The kitchen sportsfest started with dawn watching, short reflection and praise and worship led by Pastor Joel Betis. Thereafter, participants were divided into two groups and given P2,200 to feed 50 people. The participants moved to Calaca Public market for the palengke challenge where they bought ingredients for dishes such as karekare, fried fish, palitaw and juice drink. “The palengke (wet market) challenge will enhance the budgeting skills of our program

members as they have to strategize and budget the money to be able to feed 50 people,” said Jose Ian Aguilar, CALABARZON 3 area manager. After two hours of preparation and cooking, Normilita Limboc was proclaimed the 1st KMBI Master Chef. Limboc received a trophy and P500 cash prize. A raffle draw followed the awarding where washing machine, cellular phone, 172 sacks of rice, and rice cooker were given away to the participants. Balayan branch invested P13,000 to mount the whole day activity. Staff from Batangas and Lipa branches served as Celebrity Master Chefs that guided challengers all throughout the activity. Meanwhile, Jose Ian Aguilar, and Florentino Gillado, Batangas branch program assistant, served as the cooking game show masters. Balayan branch also invited Brgy. Captain Teresita Marcial, Lipa branch manager Ma. Margarita Robles, and Jenly Medel (wife of Batangas branch manager, Richard Medel) as judges.

The retreat was meant to refresh the spirit and empower center officers to be more efficient in handling their respective ENTREP groups. Moreover, the team building activity also provided venue for center leaders to meet other peers and widen their social network while having fun in the process. The day-long activity was capped with a raffle draw of small ticket items such as electric fans, pail, thermos, plastic drawers, dish container and pails of rice.

NCR South team up to clean up Affirming its commitment to support KMBI’s environmental program, NCR South Area recently conducted its Clean Up Drive on April 14 at Tanza, Cavite. NCR South branches, Binan, Pasig, MMS1 and MMS2 participated on the said activity at the Amaya community. The activity was part of KMBI’s commitment and partnership with Island Basics, a small & medium enterprise (SME) with an advocacy for greener environment. After the clean up, the group held its team building activity at the Hardin de Postema Resort. The activities facilitated by the managers were adapted from KMBI’s previous retreat to further enhance the team’s ownership of common goal and improve relationship among staff and officers.

Pinamalayan turns ONE

Legazpi branch assists BU students in immersion Six BSBA Major in Microfinance students from Bicol University immersed in KMBI (Kabalikat para sa Maunlad na Buhay Inc.) Legazpi Branch on April 24 to May 25, 2012 as part of their requirement in the said University. According to Kris Joy Dalanon, training manager, Shadow Learning method was used for the immersion. The students joined the Program Assistants and were exposed to various field works like (1) Organization of Program members, (2) Loan Facilitation, Collection and Control and (3) Center Management.

KMBI Pinamalayan celebrated its first branch Anniversary through a trade fair and pageant held on April 21, 2012 at the ABADA College Gymnasium, Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro. More than 300 program members from different municipalities attended the celebration which was kicked off by a motorcade of contestants of the Gng. KMBI 2012 in the main highway. Pinamalayan also organized a branch trade fair which showcased products of its program members ranging from processed foods, native delicacies, direct selling items, and cottage industry crafts. Rhanny Barrera, acting operations director, graced the said event and officially launched the “Masaya Dito sa KMBI”

campaign, of which the whole activity was part of. Among the highlights of the celebration is the recognition of Best Center House (PIN -A 437), acknowledgement of branch’s Entrepreneur of the Year (Jennifer Capuli) and coronation of Mrs. Leonisa Ramos as Gng. KMBI Socorro 2012. Winners received certificates and gift packs. Moreover, television, washing machine, electric fan, and other prizes were given away for the raffle draw. Pinamalayan branch is one of the newly established branches in 2011. Currently, it has a loan portfolio of P5.18 million maintaining a good standing of zero portfolio-at-risk or 0 PAR since its inauguration.

Cebu North assists 28 fire victims in Bo. Luz Cebu North branch provides assistance to fire victims in Bo. Luz, Cebu City on June 6, 2012. A total of 28 families from four different centers gathered at the Abellana Gym to receive the galvanized iron, plywood and nails to help them rebuild their homes razed by fire last May 11.

Cebu North branch manager, Girlie TeringTering and Program Unit Supervisor, Lorena Elnas spearheaded the program and the relief distribution. As part of its Disaster Management System, KMBI invested a total of Php64,400 for the said relief operation. Thus, it is also the 9th relief operation of KMBI for program members this year.

“Through this immersion we support the industry’s effort to develop pool of manpower, which the organization is also clamoring for and will be benefitting in the long run,” added Dalanon. Legazpi branch staff are the key contributors of the success of the immersion activity

Santiago PMs initiate clean-up drive With the aim to set a good example in the community, program members of KMBI Santiago branch initiated a clean-up drive to mark Brgy.Barancuag’s fiesta on June 23. Headed by its center president, Nora Tamani, together with some barangay officials, 20 program members and some staff gathered together in unity to clean the community of Brgy. Barancuag, Angadanan, Isabela. “We want to show them that aside from the financial help KMBI provides for the program members, we are also here to work hand in hand with the various programs of the barangay, which could lead to the development of the whole community,” said Earl John Benito, Santiago branch manager.

BOT appoints new KMBI leaders inter-relationship of all departments and build institutional effectiveness.

KMBI Board of Trustees recently announced the appointment of new leaders of the organization in line with the ongoing restructuring of KMBI. A division amongst three major clusters was initiated to facilitate organizational growth. The Three main clusters are: (1) the Operations Group under its new Acting Deputy Executive Director, Rizaldy R. Duque; (2) the Management Services Group under Acting Deputy Executive

Director Madelyn P. Frijillano; and (3) the Client Services Group under its assigned Acting Deputy Executive Director, Liza D. Eco. The assignment of the three main clusters was made effective on May 7, 2012. Aside from the newly assigned Acting Deputy Executive Directors, a re-alignment of the new Directors and Officers-in-Charge was announced on June 20, 2012. The new organizational structure is said to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the organization, enhance

Concepcion is retained as the Director of the Administration Department, Mary Grace M. Burgos as the officer-in-charge for Human Resource Development Department, and Concepcion B. Parantar as the officer-in-charge for the Transformation Department. “The next step for us now is to review our group loan product and other business processes with the goal of becoming more client focused,” said Madelyn Frijillano, new Deputy Executive Director for Management Services.

Invited Clinical Psychologist from the National Center for Mental Health, Cons Paubsanon, Jr., gave a brief talk on the psychosocial effect brought by disasters. He likewise presented the various approach on dealing with psychosocial problems after a disaster. Meanwhile, Valenzuela Bureau of Fire Protection Senior Fire Officer IV and Officerin-Charge in Public Information Section, Alfredo Castro, provided easy life-saving

tips if an earthquake or fire occurs. He also stressed the importance of presence of mind as well as unity to successfully endure and survive an emergency or a disaster. “Orientations and drills like these are important so you would be prepared in case a real disaster or emergency like fire or earthquake happens,” said Castro. After orientation, a simulation drill was conducted at the Head Office to test if the staff learned the techniques discussed during the orientation. “It should always be taken seriously because if done properly in real life situations, it could really save lives,” added Castro.

KMBI hosts Thanksgiving Party leaders in the APPEND Network. “I received a lot of compliments about how excellent the event was handled despite undergoing our recent crisis. Others expressed how they were blessed by all of the learning they have received from the guest speakers, the praise and worship, the venue and the spirit of the KMBI staff.” Ms. Marifel Suplemento, representative from APPEND in turn expressed her thanksgiving over KMBI’s role in ensuring the success of the Leadership Camp.

Eight students from KMBI (Kabalikat para sa Maunlad na Buhay Inc.) were chosen as the second batch of scholars under the AFP (Adopt-a-Family Program) of APPEND (Alliance of Philippine Partners in Enterprise Development) for the school year of 2012 as announced last May 17. The said scholars from KMBI are Ace Dhenniel V. Daria (Malolos), Jelliza E. Ranoco (Calamba), Clain Darrenne B. Mendoza (Upper Cavite), Jobet J. Babaan (Upper Cavite), Nikko A. Ibay (Tacurong), Giovanni

A. Tingson (Bacolod), Patrick B. Pe Benito (Calamba) and Rose Al Tayam (Calamba). The scholars will receive PhP10,000.00 tuition fee subsidy, PhP1,500.00 monthly allowance and PhP1,000.00 uniform allowance per semester. “For the chosen students, I wish them to have a thankful heart for there are organizations like APPEND who willfully help people without asking for anything in return,” said Rannah Gadon, continuing education assistant of KMBI.

Hazel Laurente, CARAGA area manager, welcomed the participants with an opening remarks followed by a torch lighting that jumpstart the program. Among the activities are cheerdance competition, basketball, volleyball, and the Search for Ambassadress and Ambassador of KMBI that spur participants sportsmanship. Coined from the word Panagtigum, a Visayan term for pagkikita-kita, CARAGA area used the activity to enrich teamwork. “We are aiming at strenghtening staff’ unity in order for them to work together in one mind, heart and goal,” said Laurente.

E

very time we hear or read this phrase we automatically think that God will bless us with financial or material things in perfect time or in a supernatural way. We hear and are encouraged by other people’s testimonies about their personal experiences wherein God provided their needs, or we ourselves can testify that truly He never forgets us; that for He always provides. Most of us think of “God’s provision” as a thing we can quantify and more often than not, we measure it by physical and monetary measure. However, God’s provision is not limited to the financial area of our lives. In the bible, even before God created man, He already created first all the things that man needs to survive and enjoy life. Then, He created man and saw that the man was still unhappy, He created a woman to be his companion. It is clear that God has created and provided us everything we need in life. If we will evaluate our lives, God provided us a family who loves and care for us, relatives that support us, friends we can hang out with and comfort us; and a community that gives us a sense of protection every time we are in our place. We must not forget that God created us in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26); we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). God

also gave us the ability to produce wealth – (Deuteronomy 8:18) and an assurance that we will be successful and prosperous in the future (Jeremiah 29:11). God even provides problems and struggles in life to mold our character and make us matured, God-dependent and strong individuals. He gives us challenges to bring out the best in us. After realizing these things we can say that since the beginning, GOD HAS ALREADY PROVIDED for us. And don’t forget that at this very moment you are reading this, God gave you this TIME – time to acknowledge His love and mercy for you and ALL He provided for you to become successful in the future. I challenge you to take this time and to think about ALL that God has already provided for you. You can pause for a while………….. And right now, I want you to pray this simple prayer: Lord, Thank You; for You provided all that I need in life to become successful but I am so sorry because I neglected it all, and I relied on my own strength and followed my sinful nature. Today, I acknowledge that You are right and I am wrong. I believe that without You in my life I cannot fulfill my destiny according to your plan. I need You in my life. And right know I invite You to come and lead my life. I surrender and commit

my life to You. Be my Lord and my saviour, in Jesus’ name, AMEN. If you prayed with all your heart and with sincerity, God heard you and smiled at you. I believe that all the promises that He gave you will be fulfilled in your life because He is our Father in heaven and we are His children. For you to continue to have journey with God (1), recover your bible, (2) have time to meditate on it and, (3) go to church and find a group that can help you to grow your relationship with God. Remember that God has already provided you everything you need to succeed. You only have to A.S.K! and you will receive; and you will find and the door will be open for you to have it. -oh Happy Day! :)

alos araw-araw ay nakakasama natin ang ating mga katrabaho sa opisina. Kahit pa nga anong gawin natin ay hindi natin sila maaaring iwasan dahil darating at darating ang pagkakataong kakailanganin natin ang isa’t isa. Sa isang organisasyon na gaya ng KMBI, kailangan ang pagtutulungan ng bawa’t isa upang magampanan natin ang ating mga tungkulin tungo sa pagtupad ng layunin ng organisasyon. Ngunit minsan, kahit saan pa ngang opisina, ay hindi maiiwasan na magkaroon ng alitan o pagtatalo ng ilan. Madalas nga, ito pa ang nagiging dahilan ng pagkaunsyami sa pagpapatupad ng layunin ng isang kompanya o organisasyon. Anuano nga ba ang maaari nating gawin upang magkaroon ng maayos at magandang relasyon sa ating mga kasamahan sa trabaho?

Ngiti naman D’yan! Kung ikaw ang tipong laging subsob sa trabaho at nakasimangot, bukod sa hindi ‘yan magandang tingnan at nakadadagdag pa ng iyong wrinkles, hindi rin iyan ang tamang attitude sa trabaho. Ngiti naman d’yan tuwing makakasalubong mo ang isang kasamahan sa trabaho o di kaya makipagkwentuhan tuwing break time. Ngitian din at i-welcome ang mga bagong empleyado. Hindi mo rin naman siguro gugustuhing pagpasok mo sa

isang kompanya ay panay matataray at nakasimangot ang mga tao diba?

Sumunod sa Company Policies Oo, nakakatulong ang tamang pagsunod sa company policies! Ang mga company policies ay ginawa upang ma-maintain ng isang kompanya o organisasyon ang kanilang standards at para na rin sa ikabubuti ng marami. Kung susuway ka, gawin na lang nating halimbawa ang dress code sa isang kompanya, maaari itong pag-umpisahan ng conflict na bakit hindi ka nasisita o di kaya ay maaari kang magkaroon ng violation na minsan nga ay maaaring ikasama ng iyong loob. Gayun din naman sa mga nagpapatupad ng company policies. Siguraduhing alam at naiintindihan ng mga empleyado ang company policies ng maayos upang hindi magkaroon ng alitan o pagtatalo ukol dito.

Huwag Mang-Tsismis! Alam mo ba na isa sa mga pinagmumulan ng away ay ang tsismis. Kaya iwasan ang pagkakalat ng tsismis laban sa iyong mga kasamahan sa trabaho o di kaya umiwas din sa pakikinig sa tsismis. Oo, hindi rin tama ang makinig ka sa tsismis na ikinuwento sa iyo dahil sa oras na marinig at manatili na ito sa iyong isip, hindi mo mapapansing nag-iiba na ang tingin at pakikitungo mo sa tao na inyong pinag-tsismisan.

Alam mo kung ano ang mabuting gawin kapag napunta na ang kwentuhan ninyo sa tsismisan tungkol sa inyong mga kasamahan sa trabaho? Change topic! Ito ang tamang panahon para sumingit ka at mag-change topic.

Magbigay ng Respeto Ang pagbibigay ng respeto ay wala sa posisyong pinanghahawakan ng isang indibidwal. Hindi kinakailangang maging Director pa o Manager ang isang tao para bigyan mo ng respeto. Ang hindi mo pagbibigay ng respeto kahit pa sa mas mababa ang posisyon sa iyo ay maaaring pagsimulan ng alitan. Tandaan na kung bibigyan mo ng respeto ang lahat ng tao sa iyong opisina, mas magiging maayos ang relasyon mo at hindi ka mahihirapang makisalamuha sa mga tao sa trabaho. Ang pagkakaroon ng magandang relasyon sa iyong mga kasamahan sa opisina ay makatutulong upang maging maayos din ang iyong pagtatrabaho. Isipin mo na lang, kung magkaroon ka ng hindi kapalagayan ng loob sa trabaho, hindi ba’t nakakawalang ganang pumasok o magtrabaho? Mas nagiging productive tayo kung bukod sa mahal natin ang ating trabaho ay kasundo din natin ang ating mga kasamahan. At sa pagiging productive natin ay hindi malayo ang pagasenso, hindi lamang ng ating sarili, kung hindi pati na rin ng buong organisasyon.

UTANG: DEAL OR NO DEAL Ni Gellie Abogado

A

no nga ba ang pumapasok sa ating isipan tuwing maririnig natin ang salitang: UTANG? Maraming umaasa dito, maraming takot dito at maraming hindi pinapangarap na makadaupang palad ito. Sa totoo lang, mahirap ang mayroong utang; ngunit may mga pagkakataong hindi talaga natin maiwasang kumapit kay Manong Bumbay o kaya naman sa mga kamag-anak nating mas may kaya sa atin upang humiram ng pera. Marami tayong iba’t ibang dahilan kung bakit kinakailangan nating mangutang at ang sabi nga natin, kung mayaman nga lang tayo, hindi na natin kailangan mangutang. Teka, teka, hindi niyo ba alam na kahit ang mga mayayaman ay nagkakautang din? Oh, nagulat ka ‘no? Kung inaakala mong kapag yumaman ka ay hindi mo na kakailanganing mangutang, dyan ka nagkakamali. Maraming mayayaman ang umuutang pa rin, ngunit nagkakatalo lang iyan sa kung saan mo nga ba gagamitin ang perang iyong inutang. Tandaan na hindi masama ang mangutang. Ngunit dapat lamang nating i-analyze maigi kung saan nga ba natin gagamitin ang perang ating inutang. Ito bay ay isang bad o good debt?

arang kailan lang ay nagtatampisaw ka sa dagat at nagbibilad sa araw pero ngayon heto at hirap ka na namang gumising sa umaga dahil sa lamig ng panahon. Oh no! tag-ulan na naman?! Syempre kapag sinabing tag-ulan ay maiisip na rin natin ang baha, putik at trapik na ating kinaiinisan sa tuwing tayo ay lalabas ng bahay. Alam naman nating ang pagbabaha ay isa lamang sa mga epekto ng pagsasawalang bahala ng marami sa ating kalikasan. Kaya naman narito ang ilang simpleng pamamaraan upang kahit ngayong tag-ulan ay mapangalagaan pa rin ang kalikasan: 1. Conserve water. Hindi dahil sa maraming tubig ngayong tag-ulan ay pwede kang mag-aksaya ng tubig. Kaya naman ate at kuya, ilabas na ang timba, batya at mas makakabuti kung mayroong drum at sahurin ang tubig ulan. Ang tubig ulan na ito ay pwede mong gamiting panlinis ng CR, panglaba ng mga basahan, at pandilig sa mga halaman. Siguraduhin lang na maayos na takpan ang mga tubig upang hindi ito tirahan ng lamok. Sa ganitong paraan, napanatili mo ng malinis ang iyong bahay, at makaka-save ka rin ng pera mula sa iyong water bill.

2. Panatilihing maayos ang basurahan. Siguraduhin maayos ang inyong mga basurahan dahil kapag ito ay natumba at kumalat ang inyong mga basura, siguradong aanurin ng ulan ang iyong mga basura na pwedeng maging sanhi ng pagbaha. 3. Sumali sa mga Tree Planting activities. Alam mo bang mas mataas ang survival rate ng mga bagong tanim na puno kung ito ay itatanim sa panahon ng tag-ulan? Hayaan mo na muna ang maputik na daan, ang mahalaga ay makapagtanim tayo ng puno na maaaring magligtas ng ating buhay. 4. Tingnan kung barado ang drainage sa inyong lugar. Kung sakaling barado ito ay ipagbigay alam agad sa kinauukulan para maisagawa ang drainage cleaning activity. 5. Tanggalin ang sebo o mantika bago hugasan ang kasangkapan sa kusina. Kung maglilinis ng mga masesebong kaserola at kawali, mas mabuting punasan muna ito gamit ang tissue o dyaryo bago ito hugasan. Ang mga sebo o mantika na bubuhos sa inyong lababo ay maaaring maipon

at mamuo pagdating ng panahon. Ito ay magiging dahilan ng pagbabara ng inyong drainage. 6. Magdala ng face towel o basahan sa byahe. Sa mga sasakyan ay madalas nating makita ang mga taong nagpupunas ng sarili o kaya naman ng sapatos gamit ang tissue kapag umuulan. Ang iba sa kanila ay itinatago muli ang gamit na tissue sa kanilang bag habang ang iba naman ay basta na lamang itinatapon ito sa kung saan. Siguro naman ay alam na natin ang maaaring mangyari sa mga basurang ito kapag tag-ulan. Kung towel o basahan ang ating gagamitin, bukod sa makakatulong tayo sa kapaligiran ay makaka-save din ang ating bulsa.

O, ayan! ‘di ba pwede pa ring maging eco-friendly ngayong tag-ulan. Kaya naman ugaliin nating pag-ingatan ang kalikasan sa lahat ng panahon upang sa ganoon ay maiwasan rin ang sakuna.

C

ommitment is a big word. It’s one thing to be committed and to stay committed. The dictionary could give us tons of meaning but it’s another story if the Big C is applied in every aspect of our lives. For example, in a relationship, commitment is said to be something beyond love. For a relationship will not survive on love alone. When we sign the contract upon being hired full time in a company or in an organization, we pledge loyalty and commitment to the organization and to our work. It is actually quite easy to say that we are committed to our work; but really doing it is another thing. Temptations will knock on your door and will try to break your commitment – will you give in?

Starting Out and Doing Good I guess everyone gives out their most impressive performance during their first few months at work; but let’s admit it that once we’ve signed that regularization paper, we tend to be more relaxed and

comfortable thinking you’re already good with your current situation. Is that all there is to us?

Pause. Rewind.

Why do we apply in a specific job? Is it just about the money? Personally, I look for a job, which I am really into. I don’t want to just go and pass my resume to a job, which would entail me to do things I’m not into or out of my passion. It’s like marrying someone I’m not attracted to in the first place. That’s where commitment initially starts. It’s when you’ve chosen a job equated to your passion and entails you to do the things you love doing the most. Being productive at work means loving and staying committed to what you do. That is why it is a necessity that you’re doing your job not just to earn money; but because you can actually see yourself doing it in the long run and actually being happy in that situation. Have you visualized it?

When Temptations Knock Give in to that chocolate cake and you’re sure to break your commitment with your diet; you would feel the guilt afterwards but you won’t feel it while you’re enjoying that sweet little piece of devil. You know it’s a temptation, you know it’s wrong; but here’s what you’re telling yourself, “a little piece of cake won’t hurt nobody.” Actually, it will – YOU. When you give in to a temptation just to satisfy your initial needs, you’re not putting someone else’s job at stake but yours. Before you give in, ask yourself, are you ready to lose your bread and butter? How will this affect your family, your current state in life or your relationship with your co-workers? And then, it all comes back to how much you value your job and the work of the organization you’re in. You might think that no one will notice it and it won’t have an effect on the organization; but truth is that you would be creating this little hole, which will eventually grow bigger if left untreated.


“Whatever you might be doing in this organization, you are playing a significant role and you are important.” Again, before you do things, think it over. It may look like an opportunity; but if you are using the organization for the benefit of another body or if the organization will be at stake, it is not an opportunity; but a temptation. Yes, they may look like an ice cream sundae with cherry on top; but it melts easily and before you know it, it’s all gone and melted and your hands are now all sticky. The goods did not last long and it even left you with a bigger mess.

Working Together and Being Stronger

KMBI, as microfinance institution here in the Philippines, is one of those organizations, which aims to help alleviate poverty in our country through holistic transformation. Do you have the same vision? Together, we should only have one desire; and that is to fight poverty. And whatever our task in this organization will have a significant effect in achieving and reaching this goal. Each one of us, whatever our position may be, is part of the vision and the team against poverty and yes - you are definitely one of us. This may be your bread and butter; but in being one with the organization means we all share the same goal.

If we give in to the temptations to break our commitment with the organization, we are jeopardizing our dream to defeat poverty. Yes, whatever you might be doing in this organization, you are playing a significant role and you are important. So if you fall into temptation, there is a possibility that you will, eventually, drag the organization down with you and the vision to defeat poverty will now be out of sight. In the end, it all boils down to how committed are we to our task in fighting poverty with the organization. Are we in the running on becoming agents of change or are we just doing this as a source of income? Keep in mind that if you’re thinking of the latter, you cannot fully grow in your job. Passion, love and commitment will always be the main ingredients for a successful you;and with your success, comes the success of the organization’s goal.

Customer is the KING! Ang statement na ito marahil ay narinig na natin o nabasa. Ito ba ay tama? Definitely, this is true. Kung nais mong umunlad ang iyong negosyo, lagi mong isipin kung ano ang makakabuti sa iyong customers. With Customer as KING, mas makakaisip ka ng mas creative na pamamaraan upang mapabuti mo ang kalagayan ng iyong negosyo at mas makatugon sa pangangailangan ng iyong “market” o “customers.”

Ang magandang pakikitungo sa isang customer ay isang mainam na strategy upang makuha mo ang loyalty nila. Hindi mo dito kailangang gumastos. Malamang kung hindi ka taga-operations at hindi mo pinagdaanan ang pagiging Program Assistant ay hindi mo lubusang maiintidihan ang kahalagahan nito sa kanila at ang kanilang mga pinagdaanan makamit lang ito. Pati na nga iba’t-ibang training na makatutulong sa kanila upang madagdagan ang kanilang kaalaman ay ibinibigay rin, bukod pa ang mga transformational activities na

Si Ivy Millare, ang proprietor ng Bebs and AJ Hauz of Pies sa Koronadal, ay isa nga sa nagpapatunay na okay talaga ang mag-join sa isang microfinance. Mula nga sa inisyal na puhunan niyang 2,000 at nadagdag pa ang inisyal na ipinahiram ng KMBI na 4,000 din, unti unting napalago ni Ivy ang kanyang negosyo. Sabi nga ni Ivy mas nagustuhan daw niya ang microfinancing kaysa sa pangungutang sa mga indibidwal. “Ang pinakanagustuhan ko sa KMBI ay ang mga iba pa nitong serbisyo tulad ng microinsurance. Pag sa mga indibidwal ka humiram ng pera, walang mga benefits tulad ng insurance,” ani Ivy. Sa ngayon nga, may sarili na ngang Pasalubong Center at Dine-in Area si Ivy sa Koronadal na matagal na nga nilang pangarap na mag-asawa. Oo, mahirap nga tayong mga Pilipino, ngunit hindi pang-habang buhay ay makukuntento na tayo sa estadong ganito. Kaya naman nandyan ang mga Microfinance institutions upang tulungan ang ating mga kapwa Pilipino na bidang-bida pagdating sa paghahanap ng pagkakakitaan! Ikaw, anong raket mo?

he difficult part of saying “NO” is that we simply don’t want to hurt someone, isn’t it? Our families, friends, co-workers and even our neighbours wouldn’t dare to ask from us, if they didn’t need or want it, anyway; and most of us want to be helpful.

of what really matters to me, often led to a cluttered life. At times, I have to say “no” to make myself more productive at work, in church and most importantly, for my family. I simply learned to communicate my choice simply and without explanation or with as little explanation as possible.

Culturally, we’ve been oriented that saying “no” is rude, heartless, unacceptable, indifferent and sometimes provocative. It’s either we hurt our own feelings or those around us. We feel guilty when someone feels rejected and we simply don’t want to see people get disappointed.

Let me share with you three insights I have learned in the processes of saying no with thanks, grace and compassion in refusing a request or offer:

For sales people, receiving “no” means a challenge to start another negotiation and just the start of getting “yeses.” For a parent, a “no” is simply translated as discipline in love and action. But for the broken hearted, a “no” is simply a nightmare. Saying “no” is inevitable. But when we do, we want to do it well. We want to be certain, firm and believable. We want our “no” to be accepted, yet, unchallenged. We simply don’t want our “no’s” to compromise our beliefs, yet preserving the tactfulness of our spirit. More than anything else, we want our “no’s” to leave no broken relationship. Do you have a difficult time saying no? I do. At heart, I am a people-pleaser. There have been times that saying yes at the expense

while having more time finishing my masters degree. I had the opportunity to do fulltime consultancy in a family corporation. My engagement was clear – to help set up the HR Department and professionalize the company after almost 10 years of operations. The company has been so generous in my pay and in my entitlements including a brand new car, 2012 Ford Fiesta. However, there have been practices which Management would not want to get rid of, including transactions recorded in double books of accounts and non-payment of dues both to employees and the government. I returned the car in two months time. I was asked what else do I need to stay. I simply remarked – “My God... my integrity... my principles, beyond anything else.” It’s best to say “no” to be able to work out what really matters to us. Say “no” when you really mean no.

Before you can say no to anything, you need to know what things are important to you. Is it being able to come straight home after work, or be with your friends and play basketball? Is it being able to do the very best job you can for your clients, or doing your task because you are merely paid for? Is it accepting a present in favor of something, or doing the right thing even when no one is looking around?

Delaying an answer only adds an underlying stress to your life. Keeping your response simple rather than a complicated, indirect or verbatim response would sound as if you’re making excuses, anyway. But when you say “no,” remember to make your response truthful. There’s always a way to speak the truth in love.

ride in the course of personal activities which I planned earlier. I simply beg off and give a simple response that I am trying to focus on existing priorities. It doesn’t mean that I value less our friendships, but my circumstance at the moment dictate my focus. As a husband, my time for Des (my wife) is of the essence. Indeed, one important insight I learned in saying no is that before I do say yes to others, I make it sure that I am not saying no to myself. How do I do that? Offer alternatives. Just remember to deliver these words calmly and kindly in the real situation. Be always prepared to say no effectively.

Let me suggest you some ways to phrase refusals: • “No. But thanks.” • “Thank you for thinking of me, but no, I just can’t. Let me suggest someone else who might.” • “I’d like to help, but I’m not able to now. Is there any time that I could work with you on that?” • “I’m sorry. Feel free to ask me again in the future. It might be a better time then.” • “Thanks, but the truth is I really hate movies. Let’s plan to do something we both like, some other time.” • “That’s not something I’m comfortable with.” • "I can, but my schedule is booked now. How about some other time?" • “That doesn’t work for me now. I’ll let you know if that changes.”

Save the friendship Saying no isn’t about being cold to another. It’s about staying in connection and deepening it. Even if you say “no,” do not burn bridges. Here’s a warning: no matter how compassionate and caring you are, some people won't take no for an answer and you'll still end up with a power struggle. Some people will be hurt, some people will be resentful, and sometimes relationships will end when you don't give the other person what they want. You can only do your best.

But think of these realities: • When you say yes to a job you don’t love, you say no to your dreams • When you say yes to working overtime, you say no to your social life • When you say yes to someone you don’t love, you say no to a fulfilling relationship Over-commitment is a rampant problem among us today. Learning to say “no” may mean being more productive later. A. “Uy, mukhang bumibilog ka yata ah...” pamilyar ba sayo ang linyang ito? Kung napansin mo na bumigat ka na mula nang pumasok ka sa kumpanyang pinagtatrabahuhan, malamang na bukod sa iyong appetite sa pagkain, kultura na ring maituturing sa iyong opisina ang walang habas na pagkain. Sabi nga sa ilang pag-aaral, ang opisina ay “breeding ground” ng stress at poor nutrition. Ito ay dahilan sa sedentary routine na kung saan nakaupo ka lang maghapon at napakaraming temptasyon na kumain. Maaaring merong may birthday, o may malapit na bilihan ng merienda o pwede rin na may isang “living feeder” na talagang hilig lang kumain at i-share ang kung anuman ang mayroon siya. Pansinin na kapag tumataba ang tao, bumabagal ito kumilos, madaling mapagod at mas nagiging sakitin. Oo, masarap kumain subalit kung present na ang lahat ng indicators kaya ka tumataba, ibang usapan na ito. Malaki ang nagiging epekto nito sa performance at mental ability ng tao lalo na sa trabaho. Narito ang ilang tips para sa matigil na ang iyong patuloy na paglobo: DISIPLINA SA PAGKAIN Hindi porke available ang pagkain sa inyong opisina ay kailangan mo ring makisalo parati sa pagkain. Hindi bawal tumikim. Ang bawal ay iyong sobrang pagkain. Isipin mo na lang kung araw-araw may pakain sa opisina, paano ka na?

PLANUHIN ANG KAKAININ Karaniwan may mga malapit na kainan sa mga opisina. Nandyan ang fastfood chains, karinderya, o kaya naman ay canteen. Piliin lamang ang kakainin kung maisipan kumain sa alinman sa tatlo. Basta tandaan na pinakamabilis magpataba ang mga pagkain sa fast food chains dahil ito ay high in salt at saturated fats. Mas makabubuti kung magbaon na lamang ng pagkain para sa iyong tanghalian o almusal. Ugaliin din na magbaon ng prutas o di kaya naman dried fruits, nuts o crackers. GUMALAW-GALAW Huwag tamarin maglakad o gumalaw-galaw. Magstretch or di kaya ay maglakad-lakad sa opisina tuwing break. Di man ito makabawas ng calories, makakatulong naman ito upang maiwasan ang “mindless eating” na siyang parating nangyayari kung maghapon lang nakaupo. UMINOM NG TUBIG Nakakatulong ang tubig upang hindi madehydrate at magutom. Tumutulong din ito upang mabawasan ang pagod o fatigue na nararamdaman sa maghapong pagtatrabaho. Excuse na din ang pagkuha ng tubig sa pantry upang magkaroon ng break ang maghapong pag-upo. Tandaan, ang iyong paglobo ay hindi kasalanan ng pagkain na available sa paligid mo kundi sarili mo mismo. Masarap kumain subalit sa iyong pagkain kailangan ikaw ang may kontrol. Happy responsible eating!

Quick Makeup Look

ho says makeup is only for special occasions? Well, it has been a common misconception that you only apply makeup when you’re going to a special occasion or to an event; well let’s beat the misconception because you can use makeup even at work or when you’re just going out to meet-up with your friends. The trick here is there is always a different makeup look depending on where you’d be going. Imagine wearing a blue eye shadow with red lips on at work; don’t you think it’s too awkward and, yes, too much? Applying makeup may be a bit tough for some people, but we can always try to learn, eh? So, allow me to teach you how we can create a simple everyday makeup look perfect for work or just about anytime of the day.

What you will need: Moisturizer Eye brow Pencil Eye Shadow palette consisting of nude shades (these colors usually come in shades of brown) Mascara The perfect blush for your skin tone A lip balm The perfect pink or nude lipstick for your skin tone A finishing loose powder Don’t worry, girls, you don’t need to buy expensive makeup products. You can purchase locally-made products found in your nearest drug store. The makeup look we would be creating will only take about 15 minutes of your time, so no worries!

DIRECTIONS: DIRECTIONS: 1. Apply your favorite moisturizer all over your face. This actually isn’t just supposed to be part of your makeup process; this should be part of your daily routine. You need to moisturize your skin always and preferably, use one, which has SPF to protect your face from the harmful rays of the sun. If you want to use a foundation, you can do so, but it’s not really a necessity; actually, the lighter, the better. If you can find a tinted moisturizer, it’s better, because it already has a light coverage and a moisturizing effect in one. 2. A pair of good and neat brows will make your day. So make sure your brows are tamed and always neatly maintained in its proper shape. You may opt to use an eyebrow pencil just to fill in your brows. Don’t let your brows become too thin. Thin brows will make you look older. 3. Now grab onto your eye shadow palette: First, apply a lighter shade of brown all over your eyelids, and blend it well. You may use an eye shadow brush or your fingers. Make sure there are no sharp edges of some sort. Next, apply the darkest shade of brown on your crease. Start from your outer V and then going in. You may use a blending brush for this job (the brush, which has a pointed end) or your sponge tip applicator. Just make sure you’d be able to blend it well. And, last, use a white or the lightest matte pink pastel shade you have and apply a decent amount on your brow bone for highlighting purposes. It will help your beautiful brows stand out. 4. I’ve read somewhere that mascara is one of the most important parts of your eye makeup. It will make you glow even without an eye shadow on. So make sure that you use the perfect mascara for your lashes. If you’ve got thin lashes, use a volumizing mascara; but if you’ve got short lashes, you may opt to use a lengthening mascara. Now, curl your lashes first and then apply 2-3 coats of your chosen mascara. 5. Now, onto your blush. There are actually different ways on how you can apply your blush based on the shape of your face; so make sure that you’d be able to identify the shape of your face and correspond it with the proper blush application. Blush shades also depend upon your skin tone. If you have a fair skin, the lighter shade, the better. Go for pastel shades. If you’ve got medium skin go for rosey pink and deep peaches shade of blushes; and if you’ve got dark skin, you may opt to use a deep orange shade of blush to compliment your complexion. And remember, don’t apply too much blush. Just apply enough to make it look like you’ve got naturally blushing cheeks and not to make you look like a clown. 6. On your lips, use a lip balm first (preferably with SPF content) and afterwards, you may apply your lipstick. For an everyday makeup look, use a pink or nude shade of lipstick; but again, there are still different shades of pink and nude lipstick. You may ask the sales lady where you’d be buying your lipstick regarding the perfect pink or nude shade for you. 7. Last, but not the least, use a finishing loose powder for that matte and fresh effect on your skin. No, you cannot use that loose talc powder for setting your makeup. You can actually buy a cheap loose powder in your nearest drug store only P150. It will keep your face shine-free, matte and fresh looking. Unlike if you’re using talc, the white particles will get stuck somewhere in your face and you’d have a whiter complexion than your normal skin tone. Keep in mind that having a whiter face isn’t equated to looking good. Your makeup should only enhance your skin tone and not change it.

Again, creating this makeup look will only take about 15 minutes of your time and it will make you look fresh and not overly made up.


Project Update

CCDE distributes 1st harvest to beneficiaries

The CCDE (Carolina Community Development Enterprise) in Baranggay Carolina, Naga City made their first harvest in May, which amounted to around Php40,000 and this was distributed among 19 beneficiaries of the hogs; while the goats are expected to be sold by July. The first half of 2012 was focused on the disbursement of funds amounting to Php564,690 to purchase piglets, goats, and feeds. The livestock was distributed to the selected 23 beneficiaries. As of the moment, there is no intention of adding another enterprise since, according to Belen Sison, acting entrepreneurship development services director, “Enterprises have to strengthen its governance first and community members have to commit their time and resources in ensuring the success of the enterprise.” The EDS Department is slowly implementing guidelines until they have decided to exit the area, which is dependent on CCDE’s established governance to manage the enterprise and sustain its operations. The CCDE is not yet registered as a People’s Organization. They are still finalizing their by-laws as well as the membership composition. “We hope to register the enterprise by 1st quarter of 2013,” added Sison.
