EDITORIAL BOARD
THE EXECUTIVE’S NOTE As we continue to RUN WELL, we are constantly reminded of our roles as leaders. And as your new Executive Director, I recognize that this is not an easy role. With all the changes in the organization, there is a need to be in-sync with the goal to help us move forward and gain momentum for a bigger and better future of KMBI. How can we do this? I want everyone to observe and be inspired by these four R’s. Be RELEVANT. God has a purpose for everyone and everything. There is a purpose why you are here in KMBI. What you need to do is to discover God’s purpose, serve it with all your heart and contribute to the success of KMBI. Work for your real master – the Almighty God. Be RELIABLE. Beyond just being dependable, ensure that what you are doing can contribute to the success of the organization. Always be consistent with the result of your performance and judgment. Be RADICAL. Innovate! Don’t be contented with whatever you have right now. You can always improve to be excellent. Lastly, be REGULATED. As leaders, don’t just abide by the organization’s policies and regulations; respect and do it in all honesty. If we follow these R’s, I firmly believe that the coming year is an opportunity to begin again, to prove our worth, and show the world that KMBI is a ministry of God and the work of our hands is all for the glory of God.

The goods were distributed in their respective centers where program members received a kilo of rice, coffee, sugar and powdered milk from KMBI and noodles and sardines from APPEND. “My family did not eat the whole day last Monday due

According to the branch staff they started the mud clean-up on September 25. “We did it ourselves because everybody is also busy cleaning up their own homes,” Shiela Catiis, Olongapo branch manager reported.
BSP certifies KMBI as Credit Granting Facility
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently acknowledged KMBI as an entity with CGE or Credit Granting Facility. The RA 3765 has already been implemented by the BSP on April 20, 2012 under Circular No. 755. “This certification will be valid for three years from the date of issuance and is renewable annually thereafter.” added Frijillano.

ANG MANAG B
eing angry is neither good nor bad. According to Charles Spielberger, PhD, a psychologist who specializes in anger management, it is perfectly healthy and normal to feel angry when you’ve been mistreated or wronged. The feeling isn’t the problem— it’s what you do with it that makes the difference. Most of the time anger is not a choice, it’s simply a response to a “trigger” (e.g. hurt pain and fear), but the expression of anger is a CHOICE and this is where the need to manage our anger comes in. The Bible tells us that anger is not always a sin. There is a type of anger called “righteous indignation.” God can be angry (Psalm 7:11; Mark 3:5), and believers can be angry (Ephesians 4:26). Anger in

the New Testament can be translated to two Greek words. One means “passion energy” and the other means “agitated, boiling.” Biblical anger examples include David’s being upset over hearing Nathan the prophet sharing an injustice (2 Samuel 12:5) and Jesus’ anger over how some of the Jews had defiled worship at God’s temple in Jerusalem (John 2:13-18). Notice that neither of these examples of anger involved self-preservation, but a defense of others or of a principle. Here are two significant facts we have to consider when we get angry: 1. Once anger begins it changes our body, thoughts, and even initiates impulses into action. Anger can potentially “hijack” the rational thinking part of our
brain. This is often the case when a person states, “I just lost it!” this may result to actions that we’ll regret later such as harming or killing someone at some extent 2. “Anger is an emotional state that varies in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage.” It is accompanied by physiological and biological changes; when we get angry, our heart rate and blood pressure go up, as do the levels of our energy hormones: adrenaline and noradrenaline. These may result to the following illnesses: a. b. c. d. e. f.
Headache Digestion Problems Insomnia Depression High Blood Pressure Skin Problems such as

eczema g. Heart Attack that may lead to stroke But how do we manage our anger, especially in our type of work here in KMBI so that we may not sin? Here are some tips we can do:
up until we lose control. I remember a quote that says, “do not put for tomorrow what you can do today.” In short, if we are angry with someone, the best time to reconcile is not tomorrow but today. For all we know, the person concerned may not have a tomorrow to come, more so yourself.
1. Be honest and speak up (Ephesians 4:15,25). People cannot read our minds. When we’re angry with someone or something, we must speak the truth in love to the person or people concerned (take note not just to anyone, but directly to the person or people involved). Remember what the scriptures say, we are of one body.
3. Attack the problem, not the person (Ephesians 4:29,31). Along this line, we must remember the importance of keeping the volume of our voices low (Proverbs 15:1) and so with the words coming out of it. Keep in mind that we’re angry not of the person but the circumstance.
2. Stay current (Ephesians 4:26-27). We must not allow pent-up emotions to build
4. Act, don’t react (Ephesians 4:31-32). Because of our fallen nature, our first

impulse is often a sinful one (v. 31). The time spent in “counting to ten” should be used to reflect the godly way to respond (v. 32) and to remind ourselves how the energy anger provides, should be used to solve problems and not create bigger ones. If we feel quite out of control, just simply walk-away from the situation temporarily, do some physical activities or simply walk until we managed to control our emotions. Mastering the art of anger management takes a lot of work, but the more we practice, the easier it will get. And the payoff can be huge. Really.

Run Well FINISH STRONG!!! An excerpt from Ptr. Bong Saquing’s talk during the 2013 Leadership Retreat By Gellie Anne O. Abogado
L
IFE is a journey where intersections and traffics are common. Each one of us drives our own life. And like a pro-driver we must follow some rules to get to our destination safe and sound and strong. Now if you will notice there is always this universal principle we follow whether our journey is by foot or by car – we Stop, Look, Listen and Go. And in our journey, we need to take note of these principles because these signs will lead us in reaching our ultimate destination:
LEARN HOW TO STOP • Stop and take a rest. When You feel uneasy and burned out, it is God’s reminder that you need to give ourselves a break from all the earthly desires and ambitions we have and rest for once. Trust that God will provide and that even in our sleep, He will continuously work for our grace.
14 |
Communi-K • vol. 10 no.3
• Stop pleasing people. Don’t lean on what other people want to hear but rather on what they need to hear. If you firmly believe that your opinion would be for the greater good then it’s about time you discuss it with the people concerned and be equally open from all the criticisms that may follow. • Stop looking down on yourself. Never try to seek respect from other people because in the eyes of God you don’t need to seek for it. People will respect you because of your character and because Christ is with you.
LOOK • Look back. Elaborating on what God said, “forget what lies behind,” He wants you to clearly comprehend that you should forget your hurtful past but not the promise He has made. • Look around. God has set
opportunities and all you have to do is to open your eyes and look around. Remember when Elijah almost gave up because the people of Israel have broken their agreement with God? But God told Elijah to look around because there are still 7,000 people left in Israel who never bowed down before Baal. • Look Forward. Be reminded that God has a bigger and better plan for you. You may be facing trials today, but God is the master of your life and He will never want you to end up defeated. He will guide you all throughout your journey.
LISTEN • Listen to what God is telling you. God is saying He loves you and He wants you to listen and meditate in His words in order to understand His message and His plan for you.
• Listen to yourself. The bible said that death and life are in the power of your tongue. That is why you should stop complaining about things for you will never develop the appreciation over it and you will end up feeling miserable.
GO • Go after God. That is His ultimate instruction. Have a willing heart to do His desires because He is the only one who can orchestrate your future. If you desire to have a good life, career, family life, go after the will of the Lord and everything will be okay.
FINISHING WELL Finishing well is not something we can accomplish just by accident. There is a definite finish line. We will never know the exact date and time, but there is. When that time comes, how do we want to be
MASAYA dito sa KMBI !!!
remembered? What do we want to leave behind? The bible gave us a few pointers on how we can leave the life God has set and prepared for us so we can exit well and finish strong: Live completely used up. In everything you do, do it with all your heart; if you want to worship the Lord, don’t be ashamed to do so. Give it all you’ve got. Remember 2Timothy 4:6, “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near.” It is not about physical death but more of doing the will of God until it consumes us. Live with no regrets. Most people regret the things they failed to do rather than the things they’ve done. But you know what’s worse? It is when you hear His word and yet you chose not to take the path He has set for you. You missed the opportunity and you may never be at peace with yourself and with your life.
Live a disciplined life. Just look at Paul and how he fought the good fight. He gave no cause for offense of anything so that the ministry will not be discredited. Just look at his words – his mind is always in the ministry. Paul, literally, gave it all and became a servant of God. He did not complain and he just followed what the Lord tells him to do. We all need to understand that God desires for us to finish strong and have a fruitful life. Remember what God said in John 15:16? “You did not choose me, but I choose you so that you might go and bear fruit.” And because it is already God’s desire, all we need to do is ask Him for it. It is not for you to decide on how you want things to be; but only through God’s gift of wisdom and guidance would you be able to find.

Nakarelate ka ‘no?

Dapat parating may dahilan.
It is easy to let disappointments and minor set-backs take on a life of their own, and find yourself in a world of hurt. Disappointments can be quite painful, regardless of their magnitude. If you’re ambitious, you’ve suffered disappointments along with success. However, as what Booker T. Washington quoted, “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” Are you facing disappointments? Let us be reminded of the following: 1. Adjust our expectations to God’s agenda. Not everyone gets to the top of the corporate ladder or win the Super Bowl or Olympic gold. Not every applicant gets the job. Illness happens. Not every marriage soars. It might make sense not to set your goals so high. But who wants to settle for 18 |

mediocrity? God wants you to thrive so you can lead a positive life in a negative world. But people tend to be creatures of habit. We often gravitate toward what is safe, not necessarily what is good. Or we settle for mediocre rather than pursue what is best.
To flourish in all areas of our life, we have to be faithful not successful. The Lord will satisfy the heart that is hungry for Him and His will. Thus, we must evaluate ourselves and develop a greater dependency on Him. Let us aim to see our life as the Father sees it, and then we are to act on what He guides us to do.
2. Learn from our defeats. Disappointment and failure build character and patience, when allowed to do so. They can teach us to win and lose with grace, an increasingly lost art these days. Romans 5:3-4 says: “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that
they are good for us—they help us learn to endure. And endurance develops strength of character . . .”
Teenage Hawaiian surfer Bethany Hamilton lost her left arm to a 1,500-pound shark. Her upbeat response startled observers. “This was God’s plan for my life,” says Hamilton, “and I’m going to go with it.” Three months after the mishap, she was back, surfing competitively—she used her tragedy as an opportunity to inspire others with God’s care.
3. Build friendships. God often minister our hurts through other people. It can be tempting to put up walls especially when we’re vulnerable, but if we shut out friends, we could be sealing off healing and hope. During a particularly challenging time in my life, I was very glad to have close friends. Stressed? Well, in all honesty, who isn’t? Wherever we are or whatever our work entails us to do, stress would creepily sneak in and bother us the whole time! For some, stress actually pushes them to be better but it’s not always the case. Sometimes, we experience burnout and we need to pause for awhile, take a break or maybe… Have a little bit of fun at work! Masaya Dito sa KMBI! Yes, that is what KMBI wants us to experience, feel and share to everyone. There should be a time to relax, laugh, play and have fun at work every once in awhile. It’s not a crime. As a matter of fact according to a research done by Professor John P. Trougakos of the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Rotman School for Management, mental concentration is just like working out the muscles. Occasional breaks are needed to fully utilize the mental power! So how do you shake off stress out of your system?
Break into a joke every once in awhile. Yes, the first tip may sound a bit silly but seriously, this can help. Make your office a fun, light and enjoyable place to work at. Everyone’s looking oh-so-serious and stressed while working? Throw in an unexpected joke. You’ll see how those frowns will turn into smiles and how they can all switch back to work mode with such enthusiasm. Plus, for those who feel the haunting zzz’s every afternoon, this technique actually does magic! Do a mentally stimulating activity. If you’re plainly bored, brain dead or you’re just so sick and tired of whatever it is you’re currently doing (let’s admit it, it happens every once in awhile), go grab a pen and start doodling. Or you may also want to play Candy Crush for a while but not too long, ok? This activity not only relaxes your mind but it actually stimulates your brain too! Wanna try? Start a conversation with an officemate. “Hey, how was your weekend?” Your officemate may find it weird that you’re actually asking

this but eventually, you’ll find yourself enjoying the conversation while working. Plus, this kind of conversation stimulates the mind to be more productive and it is proven to bring in really brilliant ideas. Give out random fun awards and prizes. Wouldn’t it be a fun if every week or month, you can try having a themed contest like, perhaps, the best dressed for the week or the funniest and friendliest for the whole month? Such silly-sounding things can actually lighten up things a bit at work and these will create a friendlier and a more welcoming environment even for the newly hired staff. So are you still eating your daily dose of stress? Yes c’mon, admit it! But do you have a choice not to be stressed? Of course, yes! Remember, it is the people that make the workplace stressful and not the other way around. So just goof around. Find a piece of joy in your heart and rub them off to others. You’ll see, relationships will be better and you might actually find yourself enjoying your workplace.

Move on! 2. Tigilan ang sobrang pagaalala. I-enjoy ang bawat sandali ng iyong buhay. Huwag magpaka-stress sa

pag-iisip at iwasang maging paranoid. 3. Mamuhay ng simple. Importante ang pera, it makes the world go round ika nga. 4. Maging blessing sa iba. Hindi ba sabi nga, “it’s better to give than to receive?”
O, paano? Smile, smile din, ‘pag may time, ha!

Art of
Persuasion Understanding the
MAGINE having the power to influence people, to create changes and to improve lives based on how you perceive things to be. It may all sound too surreal but it is possible. Have you
heard the word “Persuasion?” Persuasion is a skill that helps you move people to lean more to what you believe in. Now, are you doing it right? If not, there are FOUR essential steps on how you can start practicing your persuasion skills effectively:
Be Credible. In building your credibility, it is important to basically know what you are talking about. Educate yourself continuously. As change is inevitable, it is also vital that you are up to date with things concerning your business or industry. Work hard and show your clients that you are, indeed, passionate with what you are doing and that you deserve their trust.
Be Irresistible. Exude confidence and show the clients that you deserve their YES. You are the expert in the field so make sure that you can manifest that through your words and actions. They already know you are credible in the business, so all you need to do is further prove that. Credibility could come from word of mouth; but having seen it first-hand, will nail the deal down. 24 |
Communi-K • vol. 10 no.3
Be Connected.
Be Empathic.
Get to know your clients. Find out what they need and know your common grounds so that you will be able to establish what you can offer them in response to what you both need- your sales quota and the solution to their problem at hand. Remember that when you persuade it must be a winwin situation for both of you; otherwise, you are practicing the skill the wrong way.
Learn to REALLY listen to your clients. Hearing is different from listening – keep that in mind. When you listen, you start to understand what they mean and what they feel. Through that, you will be able to connect with your clients emotionally. You will also have a more desirable appeal to the clients and this can help you with getting their approval.
PERSUASION is a skill that you need to practice, improve on and use with good motives. It can sometimes be associated with corrupted thoughts like comparing it to deceiving people; but it is not. If exercised constructively, persuasion can actually be more than just a selling tool. Real and effective persuasion can actually be a negotiating and learning process leading to a problem’s shared solution from both parties and not just from an individual’s opinion. olistic transformation – that is the ultimate goal of the organization and is carried out by every Program Assistant. If that’s not enough, we still have to adjust to the different attitudes of our program members, the emotional impact of being away from our family and adapting to a new environment when we would be assigned to a new area, which is sometimes far from where we originally live. And although it may look like it is all blues for me, I can also say that I’m exhilarated with these challenges. Imagine being able to travel to different places and transform the lives of people – now that’s something!
But at that time, all I wanted was to have a stable job and even though being a Program Assistant is not directly connected with my college degree and licensed profession, I took the job because come to think of it, a lot of people are having a difficult time looking for a good paying and secured job; but alas! Here I am with that kind of offer so how can I turn this down?
One of the most memorable areas assigned to me was DAG-A438 at Brgy. Buenlag, Mangaldan in Pangasinan. My first encounter with them, however, was awkward. Seeing them all having fun I suddenly blurted, “Sana ang ating samahan maging ‘sing tatag ng punong Narra na itatanim natin.” Now, whenever I would go to the centers, especially at Ma’am Amansec’s residence (DAG-A438 Center President), for the center meeting, I am more confident that I do know now what I am here for. aki sa hirap.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it. - NET
