Welcome to Issue 11

Dear Valued Partners, As we have landed in the second quarter of our current financial year, we can clearly see it is going to be a year with challenges. Whether political or economical we seem to have them all present in our CAMEA area. That is probably why I can say that I’m happy to inform you that the CAMEA team is almost completed and we will do our upmost to assist you in your day-to-day tasks/business of representing the Konica Minolta brand in your country. With positive thoughts we look back to a very successful Distributor Meeting in Istanbul. We appreciate your participation, time and dedication during this event. Again we learned from each other through networking, case studies and listening. Let’s keep it up and build further on a very successful partnership. In this issue we would like to bring to your attention the valuable sales training that was held in Lebanon. The participants were introduced to a new concept of sales training. The training was conducted by Dirk Wetzel and David Fava. More of this kind of trainings will be rolled out throughout the CAMEA area. Watch this space! If you have not registered yet, please may I remind you to register for the PP training in Langenhagen in November. For more information on this event you can contact Ugur Bozat. Looking forward to seeing you all again in the near future.

Yours, Mark Oldfield Senior Area Manager CAMEA & Head of Malta Offices International Sales Division (ISD) Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe

Celebrating a premiere: Konica Minolta enters the industrial printing market Konica Minolta presented at Labelexpo 2015 its first full-digital label press system, which will fill the gap between entry-level and high-end digital label printing presses. The bizhub PRESS C71cf is ideal for profitable short to mid runs for an affordable investment. Converters approaching digital engines benefit from its ease of operation, production flexibility, quicker turnaround and variable data printing functions. This is the first step of Konica Minolta in offering an innovative industrial printing portfolio. In spring of 2016, Konica Minolta will present KM-1, a revolutionary four colour digital printing machine. Premiere at Labelexpo 2015: With the introduction of its first digital label printing press system bizhub PRESS C71cf, Konica Minolta provides label converters with an efficient answer to the rapidly changing nature of print requests. In the past few years, producers of consumer and industrial goods have modified their approach towards labelling, avoiding the stocking of labels. Today, about 60 percent of converters’ print jobs are less than a run length of 10,0001. The bizhub PRESS C71cf is a smart answer to this transformation process, as it produces short to mid runs on-demand at a competitive price, provides a quick turnaround time and is easy to use.

“During the development of this press, we talked to potential customers and listened closely to their needs”, says Toshitaka Uemura, General Manager, CP Business Division/Sales Headquarters, Konica Minolta, Inc. “We are really proud of the outcomes of the extensive development phase and are positive that our new label press serves requirements that are yet unmet within the converter market by filling the gap between entrylevel and high-end digital label printing presses currently available.”

(2014) to 7 billion (2017). “The label industry is shifting towards digital printing. Individualised labelling is also gaining in relevance, and digital printing is the only opportunity for label printers to offer variable data printing”, emphasises Uemura.

Growth market: digital continues to conquer the label printing market According to recent surveys, more than 25 per cent of new narrow web label presses installed worldwide are digital.2 At the same time, growth in all digital packaging and label markets is booming. The latest figures of the marketing research institute Smithers Pira show that the volume of printed square metres in this sector will go up from 4 billion

Successful beta test: outstanding performance at printing house Litho Formas Before presenting its new roll-to-roll digital press at Labelexpo, Konica Minolta tested a prototype machine at the leading Portuguese printing house Litho Formas SA. Miguel Pinto, Managing Director at Litho Formas, summarises the testing phase: “The Konica Minolta digital press fits in with our other presses

perfectly. It is ideal for small to medium-sized label companies – although I could also see some bigger label converters being interested in it as a complement to their bigger digital presses.” Litho Formas also confirmed the high quality output of the C71cf press: “The solids are better than we can achieve with flexo, particularly on difficult colours like blue. The text is very sharp, and the vignettes fade well to zero. The halftones are offset, not flexo quality.” To achieve its highest performance, the device uses a dry toner electrophotographic imaging engine and will print roll-to-roll CMYK at 13.5m/min at a native solution of 1200 x 1200 DPI / 8 bit. Maximum unwind/rewind diameter is 500mm (20in). The continuous feed printing system is capable of printing a wide range of self-adhesive and nonadhesive material, including coated and uncoated paper, polypropylene and synthetic paper. The main application areas are labels for beverages, liquors, industrial goods, household products and food. Outlook: More print innovation from Konica Minolta Konica Minolta is No. 1 in terms of market share for Production Printing in Europe.3 With its innovative label printing press design, it now opens the doors to the industrial printing market to create new value

and innovations for its customers’ future business success. The next innovation coming soon: At drupa 2016, Konica Minolta will present its KM-1, a four colour printing machine with UV inkjet sheet system, capable of printing onto larger format B2+ sheets, which carries forward the company’s growth in the industrial printing market.

STAFF PROFILE

Mounir Meghraoui - Regional Business Consultant for North/West Africa

In Issue number 11 we wanted to find out what is behind Mounir Meghraoui. Our Consultant for the French speaking regions, based in Morocco.

Could you tell me a bit about yourself? I am always myself. I’m a family man who likes spending my free times with my wife and family especially because they don’t see me as much as they want to. What is your background? After my degree in finance, I worked as a financial advisor and then I figured out that I was better in selling rather than counting. I worked for several companies like HP, Lexmark before starting with Konica Minolta. Where would you like to be in your career five years from now? I hope that in 5 years from now, I will be in a higher position with more responsibilities. Was there a person in your career who really made a difference? Without any doubt, it’s my first Manager, who always told me that my place was in the field and to bring business rather than

behind a desk counting the numbers. Because of him, I am what I am now and he became one of my best friends. Can you describe a typical day or week in your position? This is what I like most about my position, I meet so many new people every day and learn a lot from each one and every one. My typical day is a constant flow of meetings and at the same time following the news to keep in touch with what is happening in my territory. The other task that I “practice” a lot is being on the phone. What is your personal mission statement? I would like to visit as many countries in the world as possible and discover new cultures and meet new people. What are you most proud of?

I am proud of what I am now since I grew up in a difficult neighbourhood. I watched most of my childhood friends getting into drugs and sometimes jail because of addictions. Because of my studies and achieving my degree, I met wonderful people whilst working for big companies. This makes me really proud of myself! What do you like to do most in your spare time? I like spending time with my wife and family and having fun with my friends. What are your lifelong dreams? I would like to go on a boat trip around the world. I have been dreaming about this ever since I was a child. Tell me one thing about yourself you wouldn’t want me to know. I like driving fast, very fast, but since I will not replace Paul Walker in Fast and

STAFF PROFILE 06/07

Furious 8, I like practicing everywhere when I have the opportunity. I know it’s a bad thing and that I am breaking the law each time, but the adrenaline that I feel during these moments is my biggest sin. There’s no right or wrong answer, but if you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? Miami Florida, because it is the city for me that never sleeps and it drives me crazy each time. What’s the last book you read? Under the Dome by Stephen King He is one of my favourite authors.

What magazine(s) do you subscribe to? L’Economiste which is a Moroccan Financial newspaper. What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the last year? Hangover III, the craziest movie ever. What would you do if you won the lottery? I can’t imagine this otherwise I will stop working and start playing. But I am not lucky in those games

with my friends in the forest just before midnight because we were challenged by some other children and that we will not be able to go deep in the forest during the night. The way that we didn’t panic even with all the crazy sounds that we were hearing. It took us 3 hours finding our way back, not only did we become best friends after that but for sure it is my best childhood memory.

Who is/are your hero(es)? My Mother, she always supported me and pushed hard and for this she is my hero. If you could choose one super hero power, what would it be and why? Mind Control like Professor Charles From X Man; may be with it, I can control world leader’s mind and change the world and make it a better place for living in peace. What is your favourite memory from childhood? My best memory is to get lost

In the next issue of CAMEA Connect we will be speaking to Carolin Kalk. The new Assistant to the CAMEA Team.

Document Navigator Series by David Fava - Business Development Specialist

In the last two issues, I introduced the Solution Matrix, with the aim that this could help guide you in selecting the appropriate solution for your prospects – depending on the prospect’s size. If there is any feedback on this from your side – or if you think we should add something else to this Solution Matrix, please feel free to pass on your suggestions directly to me via e-mail. We continue to explore the Solutions that are listed in the Solution Matrix and on the agenda this time we have the Document Navigator series. Document Navigator offers 2 versions of the software; - the first one bearing the same name, Document Navigator and, - the second one, which is lite version of it called Document Navigator Essentials (DNe) About Document Navigator Essentials; Customer Size: S - M The main functionalities that Document Navigator Essentials offers can be clearly summed up in the picture below – making it an ideal Archiving Solution with the possibility of having various direct connectors such as SharePoint and Google Drive. Capturing and Conversion The documents are captured from predefined Windows folders or from the MFP itself. Whenever a document appears in the specified folder, it is automatically picked up and processed according to the workflow specification set forth by the user. Automatic conversion into the most popular electronic formats is supported, including Word, Excel, PDF, JPEG, TIFF, XML, PDF/A. Bar Code Recognition Document Navigator (both versions) comes with an integrated barcode reader. 1D barcodes can be

read and the recognised values used for document processing. In addition, documents can be separated by inserting sheets with barcodes before scanning. Users can thus combine multiple documents into a single scan job. The barcode separators ensure individual processing. Zone Recognition Zonal recognition enables recognition according to predefined zones. This capability is extremely useful for automation, since content can be read out and set for example as metadata or included in the document name. The latest version of DNe is v3.1. This can be downloaded as usual from our CSES Portal (DLEU1410393EN). Some of the new features include; • SharePoint Connector can now create none existing folders • Much faster loading of DNe at the MFP • ABBYY page-counter variable

Customer Size: M - XL Data can be captured from various sources, including Konica Minolta devices with OpenAPI, desktop computers via the desktop client, e¬mails received by a registered e¬mail server, databases, FTP servers, and Windows folders monitored by Document Navigator. The server

version also offers OMR functionality which facilitates reading out surveys, helping to analyse, process or distribute the content, depending on the mark¬-up. Documents can be stored in several ERP/DMS/CRM/databases or Cloud environments, including SharePoint, Google Drive, Windream or Docuware. Even an XML generator is provided ensuring support by most electronic systems. The latest version of Document Navigator is v4.2 and can be downloaded on our CSES Portal. The new version boasts a; • New web client • New document cleaning and manipulation module • New Evernote connector Load-balancing is also possible now making it an attractive solution for tenders. Frequently, I receive queries regarding the capabilities of the OCR engine. The new ABBYY engine (which is that part that makes OCR possible) is a very good upgrade to the previous models. This can also do OCR of Arabic language – however, it is worth noting that this is not yet perfected – so, some minor technicalities might arise when trying to do OCR of an Arabic document – however, these are always aspects which our development team constantly works on!

drupa 2016 set for success: The new drupa!

Worldwide industry and its global players support this leading international trade fair to present their latest print and cross-media solutions. drupa 2016, the leading international trade fair for print and crossmedia solutions, is already set for success: Worldwide industry and its global players are giving their clear support for the next drupa, and many have booked larger exhibition space than for the previous show. Even now – 8 months before the start of the show on 31st May 2016 – 80 percent of the exhibition space is confirmed as booked. If this trend continues, drupa 2016 will once again, as throughout its 60 year history, be sold out and will cover the entire marketplace relating to print and crossmedia. International global players and market leaders will be at drupa 2016 alongside upcoming and innovative companies from around the world. “touch the future”: Future technologies and markets in sight Under the motto of “touch the future” drupa 2016 will focus more heavily on future-oriented technologies such as printed electronics, 3D printing and inkjet printing with its industrial applications. These innovative tech-nologies are driving the market forward and are

opening up significant op-portunities and growth potential worldwide, primarily in the field of packag-ing, functional and industrial printing. According to Smithers Pira (UK), sales in the packaging print sector will rise annually by four percentage points to US$ 970 billion by 2018. There are also indications of growth in the industrial and functional printing sector. Since 2008 this market, that includes printing processes for the production of decorative and laminated surfaces, ceramics, vehicle parts, promotional items or electronic prod-ucts, has risen annually by 13.4 percent and in 2013 achieved a volume of US$ 43.7 billion. Experts from InfoTrends (USA/ UK) currently value the market at US$ 100 billion. “We recognised the growth potential of these markets very early on and successfully set in motion the special “PEPSO” (Printed Electronics Products and Solutions) exhibition at drupa 2012, for example”, explains Werner M. Dornscheidt. “At drupa 2016 we will cover this topic with additional events in the specialised programme and in the form of special shows, known as “touch points”.” The market for 3D printing is developing even more dynamically. The global market volume is currently estimated at around US$ 2.2 billion. The Association of German Machine and System Engineers (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau) that recently founded the

com-pany Additive Manufacturing, is anticipating an annual growth rates of 25 percent. “We have therefore developed the “3D fab+print” brand specifi-cally for this market segment,” says Werner M. Dornscheidt. “At drupa and other relevant Düsseldorf trade fairs, we are joining forces with other ex-hibitors in 3D printing technology and bringing greater focus to the entire topic of 3D”. Crossmedia and multichannel: Printing in the time of the internet, big data, web-to-print & variable data printing. The internet and digital communication overall has changed print in a funda-mental way. This is emphasized by the current “drupa Global Insights” report entitled, “The effects of the internet on printing – the digital flood”. Interaction is the name of the game. Big data, web-to-print, variable data printing and internet-supported tools such as augmented reality and QR codes character-ise and impact the entire cosmos of printed products and the complete work-flow. Here drupa is pulling out all the stops with its highlighted topic of mul-tichannel printing. For more information about drupa 2016, please contact Diana Lavender or email her: diana.lavender@ konicaminolta.eu

bizhub 4020 wins BLI Summer Pick Award 2015

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe (Konica Minolta) has received the BLI Summer Pick Award 2015 from Buyers Laboratory LLC (BLI) for its A4 multifunctional peripherals printer (MFP) bizhub 4020. The system was acknowledged as an “Outstanding MFP for small to mid-size workgroups”. Key factors for this recognition have been its minimal downtime, its above average image quality or its support for Konica Minolta’s mobile printing app PageScope Mobile, among others. BLI, an independent company who evaluates office document equipment and applications based on an extensive list of different criteria, gives its Pick Awards twice a year to those products and solutions that outperform their contenders in BLI’s exhaustive lab tests. “The Konica Minolta bizhub 4020 is easy to use thanks to My Tab, which lets users customize a tab in the drivers to simplify job programming, and the Konica Minolta. INFO-Palette control panel with tablet-style navigation,” said BLI Senior Test Technician Tony Maceri. “And because scanning is a key part of

workflow, the unit’s robust scanning, including the ability to send to several destination types and create profiles for frequent job settings, is a real advantage.” “The bizhub 4020 is an easyto-use MFP that delivers reliability, quality output and a strong feature set, but its greatest strength is the value it brings to business users,” said BLI Senior Analyst of Printers/A4 MFPs Marlene Orr.” “The bizhub 4020 was designed to fulfil all requirements of small to medium user groups, and we feel honoured by this award from BLI. Its reliability and ease of use make the bizhub 4020 the perfect tool for printing contracts, scanning colour documents to several destinations, or any daily task”, said Julien Azzi, Product Manager, Office Printing, International Marketing Division, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. Twice a year with its Pick awards, BLI gives special recognition in each category to those products that provided the most outstanding performances in BLI’s durability test is unique among office product evaluations and uniquely qualifies BLI to assess reliability, a critical factor for

buyers and IT directors. Other performance attributes evaluated include ease of use, media handling, productivity and value, among others. Each product that successfully passes BLI’s lab test earns BLI’s Recommended or Highly Recommended seal and a BLI Certificate of Reliability and the best performers qualify as Pick contenders. Consequently, a BLI Pick is a hard-earned award that buyers and IT directors can trust to better guide them in their acquisition decisions.

Accessibility Pack; designed for Users with a visual impairment

At Konica Minolta, we are committed to making our products easy to use for everyone and anyone, including those with a visual impairment. This is why we have created our Accessibility Pack. With it, as a visually impaired user you gain access to all basic functionalities on Konica Minolta multifunctional devices, even though you might not be able to see them well. The Accessibility Pack combines the principles of our innovative touch screen technology and our versatile authentication system: The former allows configuring the screen individually in such a way that all preferred functions are accessible from a single screen, while thanks to the latter, even users with disabilities can easily identify themselves at the system and instantly access their personalized screen. In addition to this, we use an electrostatic polyester film that covers the touch screen to precisely position Braille points corresponding to the copying, scan, and fax functionality over the locations of these key features in the screen. Simple and straightforward operation for the visually impaired With the help of a simple polyester film with Braille markings, users with a visual impairment gain greater autonomy in their daily work in the company. The Braille markings on this thin electrostatic polyester film perfectly correspond to the position of the key features in the bizhub touch screen, thus making these features accessible to those who cannot see them. These functionalities are available with the Accessibility Pack: – ID & Print: The visually impaired

user can send a print job to the MFP from his computer, walk to the MFP, and identify with a personal badge. It is advisable for the user to empty the print output tray before identifying himself, as this will avoid inadvertently mixing previously printed documents with own prints. – Copy: After authenticating at the MFP, the copy screen opens by default. The Braille markings exactly fit the functions in the personalised display (such as colour/ black & white, paper tray, simplex/duplex, stapling, etc.). The user puts his thumb on a reference point on the screen, reads the Braille, makes his selections and can start copying. – Scan-to-USB: Scanning is available as Scan-to-USB, with the default setting simplex, PDF, colour scan. After identifying, the user inserts the USB key; this supports the Braille writing “Scan” on the film. The document set in the feeder or on the glass can then be scanned and saved to the USB key. The user can also change the settings to scanning double-sided PDF colour. – Fax: The user presses the labelled fax key, dials the destination number on the side keyboard, and can send the fax. Easy operation is thus ensured for anyone using a bizhub device equipped in this way: Visually impaired users conveniently access their personal screen by authenticating themselves and can then operate the device by reading the Braille. All other users can simply ignore the Braille markings and continue operating the device as

before. As it’s very thin, the polyester film will not be in their way. The benefits: – ACCESSIBILITY: The pack gives visually impaired users convenient access to the main bizhub features. – AUTONOMY: Devices thus equipped are fully available to users with a visual impairment, who no longer need assistance but enjoy improved working conditions and gain independence in their daily office work. – PRODUCTIVITY: Everyone can focus fully on their tasks; visually impaired users no longer need to ask for assistance, enhancing the overall efficiency.

The Accessibility Pack includes: •

A sheet of transparent electrostatic polyester film with Braille markings: The sheet is affixed over the operation panel so that the Braille points correspond to the feature locations in the screen.

A user guide featuring regular text plus information in Braille, including tactile descriptions of the hardware components.

Logo sticker for internal communication: Attached to the device, the sticker will indicate to the staff that this MFP is specially equipped for users with a visual impairment. Other users can still access the device without any difficulty.

The specifications are weighted against The vebn (Verband eLearning Business each other and marked with traffic Norddeutschland) is an association of partners lights to indicate the weaknesses and like media agencies, learning providers and disadvantages of the competitor’s university faculties. They are involved with blended learning, WBT creation, learning management systems and knowledge management. The awards went to Konica Minolta and to our long-standing partner szenaris GmbH from Germany. While Konica Minolta was awarded for the track concept, szenaris received the recognition for the creation of the excellent eLearning modules. vebn has developed a profound catalogue of quality criteria for excellent learning content, where we have achieved an excellent result of 94,6 %. It is very meaningful for the Konica Minolta Academy to receive this external recognition as it encourages our approach to invest more time in concept and content quality to make sure we can properly serve the needs of our learners. In the laudation, one of the jurors explained: “The jury was especially thrilled by the type and tone of the narration. This possibility to motivate and to enable a sustainable learning success was – with regard to previously evaluated contents since 2008 – hardly ever been presented in such great quality.” The PMET is Konica Minolta’s approach to provide an education track tailored exactly to the method and different target groups for project management in the Konica Minolta world. While the track was developed in Europe and is in use since 2013, it has started going global in the meantime. Our colleagues in the U.S. and in the Asian Pacific Region including Japan have recently started to adopt the same contents and concept for their project management education.

Middle East Sales Training Event by David Fava - Business Development Specialist

The event took place at Copytech Headquarters in Beirut Lebanon. This was chosen by the Business Development Team after in-depth discussions to try and create or better yet, come up with a new concept of sales training – one where the attendees would be the main focus and where the participating distributors would be of the same mindset when it comes to sales. The focus area was chosen to be the Middle East – hence the term Middle East Sales Training Event, because the focus was on Middle Eastern distributors and the way of doing business in this region. The main aim of this sales training was to start building up a new way of thinking, a new concept on how to carry out sales efforts – something which in CAMEA (not just the ME) is still lagging behind when compared to Europe and other Western areas. We were after the goal of incepting a new idea in the mind of the attendees that they are not just selling a box now, but they are selling themselves, their company’s ideology and try to create a friendship with the prospect so that it would result in a long term relationship and not just a sale. For this training we invited sales senior Dirk Wetzel as main trainer. Dirk headed the whole first day where the main focus was on the term Consulting – which is the main factor shifting us from just selling, to creating a relationship with our customers. In the second day, the attendees were divided into 2 groups and given

two different case studies where they had to Consult the matter at hand. They were asked to present their Consultation at the end of the day, where the best team – the team that approached the prospect with the most innovative consultation - was awarded with a Konica Minolta USB Stick. We believe that such training will pave the way for our future business – IT Services and OPS. Such offerings are not tangible and that is why our

distributors need to start thinking in a new way – which was what we were after from this training. The second day was concluded by the participants themselves. Copytech and TESCO were asked to prepare and showcase tow of their best clients as a success story. These were clients that purchased both hardware and software. This was done especially to show newcomers (Technostar and KMS) how our partners do business. Copytech also provided a tour of the premises and gave a demo of several solutions such as; bEST Payment, YSoft SafeQ, PS Mobile. In conclusion, I would also like to take this opportunity and express my gratitude towards our partners Copytech, for playing the perfect hosts and also to our dear colleague Mr. Dirk Wetzel for his excellent contribution as always. Stay tuned for round 2 of the ME Sales Training! Details will follow soon!

Konica Minolta presents 3rd generation of high-chroma PP systems Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe (Konica Minolta) introduces the bizhub PRESS/PRO C71hc to provide enhanced printing services based on the advanced colour reproduction capabilities of the manufacturer’s proprietary high-chroma toner. Truly amazing quality results can be achieved for photo books and photo merchandise, promotional materials, and other sophisticated print products. “The colour production printing market is steadily growing and there can be no doubt that RGB data and the high-chroma technology will continue to increase in importance in the future. In this context, Konica Minolta is proud to introduce the 3rd generation of high-chroma products with the new bizhub PRESS and PRO C71hc” – explains Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen, Product Manager Production Printing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. With the growing need to print product images or photo albums from digital cameras, but also with the demand to combining online with printed communication, the requirement for the accurate reproduction of RGB workflows is rapidly increasing. But due to the narrower colour range of a conventional CMYK printer, some

of the colours seen in real life or on a monitor may change in print or appear less vivid. Konica Minolta now presents the professional solution with the bizhub PRESS/PRO C71hc: The high-chroma toner of these colour production systems has an extended colour range that is much closer to sRGB than that of conventional CMYK toners. Colours can be printed virtually as they are displayed for example on a calibrated monitor. “Today’s communication channels cover print, online and mobile communication, so that professionals are changing their colour management from traditional CMYK to sRGB. With our new generation of Konica Minolta’s production printing systems, we don’t just offer our customers impressive colour reproduction over a wide range. We enable colour users to get the best out of photos, printing them in a fantastic quality. The bizhub PRESS/PRO C71hc will easily print even colours that until now have proven difficult to reproduce, such as vivid pinks and purples, and different shades of green,” concludes Edenhuizen. Another asset of the bizhub PRESS/PRO C71hc is their wide range of finishing capabilities. Features like booklet production, perfect binding, auto ring binding and of course the extensive stacking capacity of up to 10,000 sheets allow one-step printing and finishing without manual intervention.
