The location for the final for this year is still top secret. It will be revealed at the end of July, so watch this space! The first pre-tournament will take place in Nairobi on the 15th of July and will be hosted by Express Automation - Kenya. Konica Minolta wins two cut-sheet industry awards from EDP Association Konica Minolta’s newly launched AccurioJet KM-1 sheet-fed B2+ UV inkjet digital press, and the bizhub PRESS C71hc light production press, have been recognised as best in their class by the European Digital Press (EDP) Association, an industry forum for digital print production established 10 years ago by six trade publications from around Europe. One of the tasks of EDP is to acknowledge the value of the research and development tasks of the industry, granting awards to the best products of the year and to inform all European professionals about such distinctions. Konica Minolta’s AccurioJet KM-1 has been named “Best cut sheet color B2+ printer” in the 2016 EDP Awards, while the Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C71hc has won the “Best cut sheet color light production” category. The Awards were presented to the company at the official EDP Award Ceremony, which took place on 1 June at drupa fair in Düsseldorf. The AccurioJet KM-1 UV inkjet press has received its commercial launch at drupa 2016. The B2+ format press

is targeted at commercial, books and packaging printing sectors, and is the result of a technology partnership with Komori. Capable of printing up to 3,000 single-sided B2 sheets per hour at up to 1,200 dpi, the KM-1 was installed for the first time in Europe at beta site PLS Print Logistic Services in Markkleeberg, Germany, at the start of 2016. The Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C71hc is an SRA3 digital press aimed at commercial printing and high volume CRD environments. The 71 A4 pages-per-minute press uses a unique High Chroma (hc) toner which widens the color gamut

and adds vibrancy to CMYK-printed RGB images. Mark Hinder, Head of Market Development, International Marketing Division at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, said: “We are delighted to learn of these accolades for two of our most technologically advanced systems. These awards will be welcomed both by our hard-working R&D staff and by our customers, who continue to place faith in Konica Minolta’s ability to innovate and broaden their printing horizons. We always value the opinions of our colleagues in the trade press so it is most gratifying to receive such recognition.”

INTERVIEW

High reliability with Konica Minolta’s new bizhub 758, designed for highly productive workenvironments Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe (Konica Minolta) presents the new bizhub 758 monochrome multifunctional device, successor to bizhub 754e, linking high quality and volume with smooth workflows and versatile printing. The new device has been designed to meet the demands of high-volume Print Offices or in-house printing departments with the highest requirements for productivity and reliability, while being eco-friendly with the lowest TEC value in its class. European sales start of the new series is in June 2016. Being one of the market leaders in the area of office printing, Konica Minolta is frequently updating its hardware and software portfolio in order to respond to the latest market trends and client needs. Ronja Harste, Product Manager at Konica Minolta, explains the new development: “Offering high flexibility, the new bizhub 758 can be used for any kind of business process, enabling users to boost their productivity. Especially in offices where a high efficiency, reliability and quality are

demanded, this device is the perfect choice for the production of a variety of documents.” The bizhub 758 has a great deal to offer: the recently developed high capacity dual-scan document feeder simplifies scanning of large volumes and increases productivity, while the advanced sensing technology of the bizhub 758 reduces feeding errors and paper jams. Owing to a paper size measurement function, there is no need to spend time to check paper size manually, thus ensuring an easy

and less error-prone operation. A wide range of high-level finishing options facilitates various types of outputs being produced in-house and on demand. The bizhub 758 is capable of creating booklets up to 80 pages for small marketing or training publications, folding letters in several ways, stapling hand-outs and hole punching invoices – saving time and the operator’s working power. In order to make the operation as convenient as possible, the MFP panel and printer driver interface can be customised to user needs. Through the integration of the mobile touch area with the operation panel, users benefit from the very latest developments, such as authentication via NFC technology. Integrated state-of-the-art technology leads to the lowest TEC value in its class, making the bizhub 758 a sustainable, energy-saving product combining economical printing with environmental awareness.

STAFF PROFILE

Mark Oldfield - Senior Manager CAMEA

Finally, we managed to sit him down long enough between flights so he could answer all the questions we all wanted to know. Mark Oldfield - the Senior Manager of the CAMEA team. Could you tell me a bit about yourself? I was born in Newark, England on the 25th May, 1964. When I was 3 years old, I moved with my parents to Malaysia. At the age of 6, I moved to Germany with my parents and my two older brothers. Since that time I live in Germany. I have 3 children; a girl, she is 25 and 2 boys, of 26 and 21 years old. What is your background? First half of the school time I spent in English schools and second half German education. My career started

at Digital Equipment as a Material Planner. After 6 years (2 in Munich) I moved to Komatsu Hanomag and worked in a position for the management coordinating between Japan and Germany. In 1991 I changed jobs. I joined the management team of Solvay Enzymes and I was responsible for the logistics, advertising and sales/services department. In 1997 I joined the management team of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe and was put in charge of the business in Central Asia, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA). This year is the 20th year with Konica Minolta.

Career…at my age I don’t think about this anymore, for me it is more important that people recognize the work which has been done and that in five years I have convinced many people in Konica Minolta that it was a good choice to concentrate on the business in CAMEA for our future growth .

Where would you like to be in your career in five years time?

In the countries it can be a visit of to a fair, visit of a business partners or new potential distributors or customers.

Can you describe a typical day or week in your position? If I am not traveling which I do most of my time, then first thing is to get some coffee, and start a “to-do” list for the day, check outstanding topics which are still pending a reply and appointments in my calendar. Then meetings, video conferences … If I am travelling then I mainly make my telephone calls in the car on way to the airport, emails on the plane and in airports.

STAFF PROFILE 06/07

Who is/are your hero(es)? My mother is my hero! If you could choose one super hero power, what would it be and why? I like the movies were the guy can hear what ladies think, that must be interesting!

What is your personal mission statement? To enjoy life and don’t create problems or stress with other people. What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of the development of the CAMEA business for Konica Minolta. When I started the business as a one man show, we had a sales result of about 5 million Euro (Incl Turkey but not South Africa) and now we are planning over 50 Million Euro. What do you like to do most in your spare time? My hobby is playing Golf mainly and also on weekends we like doing short trips in Germany. There’s no right or wrong answer, but if you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? I have never been to Brazil or Australia, in total I have been to over 55 countries but these two I have wanted to see ever since I was a child. Maybe one day…

What’s the last book you read? It’s a book a colleague recommended to me on a business trip and called “Darm mit Charm “ and is really funny how this person writes in a funny way about a really serious topic.

What is your favourite memory from childhood? It’s not real childhood memory; it is actually when I turned 18. For the first time I owned a car and I could move around and drive to any place I liked. I was free! 

What magazine(s) do you subscribe to? Golf magazines for home, but most magazines I read online, in the plane or in the lounges which are free of charge and therefore no need to subscribe. What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the last year? I love the film “Ghost “with Patrick Swayze and also Pretty woman. I know many guys will now think “but this is a ladies film”.  What would you do if you won the lottery? What you mean if I would win in the lottery/! I already did win and the 5 Euro I won, I reinvested again!

In the next issue of CAMEA Connect we will be speaking to Clayton Passmore - Business Development Specialist Office

INTERVIEW

Konica Minolta aims to replicate production printing success in industrial print market Konica Minolta has set its sights on leadership in the industrial printing market and is taking its first steps towards that goal during drupa 2016. Key industrial applications such as label and packaging are the focus of Konica Minolta’s research, as evidenced by its development of new printing technology geared around these applications, with the AccurioJet KM-1 B2+ sheet-fed UV inkjet press at the forefront.

production printing market and its customers’ needs.

Since entering the production printing market in 2005, Konica Minolta has built a position of leadership in the mid-production colour printing sector. This success is rooted in a combination of Konica Minolta’s high-end technology and its deep understanding of the

Olaf Lorenz, General Manager of the International Marketing Division, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, explains: “In line with our management philosophy, ‘The Creation of New Value’, we want to inspire our customers to seek new horizons for their businesses and

Konica Minolta will continue its growth in commercial print markets and is now ready to take the next step, with further expansion into industrial printing. At drupa 2016, visitors were able to see how Konica Minolta is continuing to fulfil its ambitions by examining the technology the company is presenting. Konica Minolta’s objective is simple: a top tier position in industrial printing, just as it has achieved in production printing.

Bearing Konica Minolta’s new unified Accurio brand, which features on all of its inkjet digital press and digital workflow solutions, the AccurioJet KM-1 UV inkjet press received its commercial launch at drupa 2016, and is the standard bearer for Konica Minolta’s new approach. Konica Minolta - CAMEA Success Story Procedure by David Fava - Business Development Expert

As you all are already aware of, we have updated our success story procedure for this financial year. Earlier this week, David Fava sent out an e-mail detailing all the relevant information. A success story is a really effective way where you can showcase a deal that was well carried out and which could serve you as a potential sales tool to reel in future deals and clients There are 4 main categories in which you can choose to place your success story in, depending of course on the type of business. In case of special cases, we would also consider other types of success stories should they prove relevant. Just send us your idea on cameasuccesstory@konicaminolta. eu and we can evaluate and get back. The four main categories are: • OPS • Wide Format • Production Printing Systems (hardware and software) • Office Printing Business (hardware and software) For each category mentioned above, you have received a questionnaire. If your success story was on Office Business, then you simply need to fill out the Office Printing Business questionnaire. Then you proceed with the steps outlined below:

Process Work Flow Step 1 Questionnaire Completion and Notification to CAMEA Business Development Team: The distributor should already possess 4 sets of questionnaires, one for each category mentioned above. Once the distributor determines a potential success story, they can proceed to fill out the appropriate

questionnaire, depending on the category. Once, the questionnaire is completed. It should be sent to the Business Development Team on cameasuccesstory@konicaminolta. eu for evaluation. Any graphical representations and/or proof should be sent in attachment. Step 2 Processing of the Information: After receiving the above, the BD Team together with the Marketing Manager will internally evaluate the data. If the decision is taken to move forward with the success story, CAMEA Office will notify the distributor. In case further

communication between distributor and Konica Minolta is needed, in order to clarify any questions that might arise, the BD Team could ask for more information or clarifications. Step 3 Publishing of success story: The information from the questionnaire is then compiled into the actual success story by the BD Team and given exposure on all our media. At the end of the FY, the distributor with the best OR the distributor with the most success stories will win an ipad mini (16GB) or its equivalent value.

SUCCESS STORY 18/19

Wide Format Opportunities with Konica Minolta by Ugur Bozat - Business Development Specialist PP

At Konica Minolta, through our Digital1234 Business Development Program we are committed to our Production Print customers to enable them to embrace new opportunities in print and communication services. Our customer’s knowledge and drive for innovation, combined with Konica Minolta’s solutions and services, makes a powerful partnership. We provide practical support to help our customers develop new services and increase productivity for mutual profitable growth. Our vision is, and always will be, to enable our customers to thrive and give shape to their ideas. In this article we going to focus on Wide Format Opportunity; What is a Wide Format Printer? Wide format printers are specialized printing devices with a print-width between 43cm and 5 meters wide. Wide-format printers address a requirement for special printing jobs that regular printers cannot achieve. The key difference is size! Wide format printers are typically roll-fed devices available for monochrome or full color printing applications via inkjet or toner-based technologies. Jobs requiring wideformat printers include engineering or architectural drafts and sketches, signs and banners, posters, point-ofpurchase (POP) displays, and picture enlargements. Wide Format Differentiation The wide format graphics market is expected to show a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 5% between 2010 and 2015. For this reason, many PSPs are investing in high-speed wide format printing devices to satisfy the demand for just-in-time production and fast turnaround times. It is critical for providers to offer the primary applications that comprise the wide format market, including posters, signs, and banners. Companies that invest in these wide format devices can differentiate their businesses through higher service levels, including a “while-you-wait” wide format graphics printing capability that many wide format print shops cannot offer due to the time required to change over media

rolls or fear of disrupting ongoing print jobs. Why our customers should invest for Wide Format Printers? Recent research from InfoTrends confirms that wide format print buyers expect to spend an average of 15% more on wide format graphics in the next 12 months than they did in the previous 12 months. As such, InfoTrends is expecting renewed growth in the coming months. In fact, some parts of the market are already seeing 30% growth over 2010 business levels. What is the Opportunity? One of the ongoing trends in the wide format market has been the blurring of the traditional vertical segments. Companies that have historically served one segment of the market—such as the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry—have been moving into the wide format digital graphics market. InfoTrends expects to see increasing efforts to sell products and technologies developed for the technical wide format market into the graphics segment, and vice versa. Examples of this include the color toner products identified above being positioned as solutions for lowcost, short-term graphics printers. On the other side of the coin, highlycapable wide format aqueous inkjet solutions are being positioned as technical document printing solutions, particularly for color-centric technical applications. The advantage of these new solutions is that they can offer better running costs, so PSPs should especially consider these products if they are in the market for short-term graphics solutions.

Advantages of Toner Based Wide Format Printing Today, companies that buy wide format graphics spend anywhere from €9 to €50 per square meter for a wide format graphics print. Tonerbased wide format devices allow companies on both the print-for-pay and print-for-use sides of the market to serve customers seeking a better solution for their wide format graphics procurement. For a print-for-pay service provider, the opportunity to produce and fulfill short term graphics on a highly profitable basis is real. With running costs 66% below those of wide format color inkjet printing systems, tonerbased systems provide instant profit opportunities for wide format print-forpay shops. For print-for-use shops, there is a much more dramatic savings opportunity. The availability of a device that enables cost-effective shortterm signage is a great advantage that should drive additional signage campaigns. What Konica Minolta offers..
