How do you make a teenage driver understand the responsibility that comes with driving? On Friday April 8, the Papillion-La Vista School District in cooperation with numerous area public safety agencies, will be conducting a "mock" crash at Papillion-La Vista High School, 402 East Centennial Road, just south of 84th and Giles in Papillion. The event will start at 10:00 AM in the north parking lot of the high school. Approximately 700 high school juniors and seniors will congregate in the back parking lot to witness a mock, two car crash complete with high school drama students as victims. Emergency personnel and vehicles as well as a medical helicopter will be responding to the “mock” crash. At the conclusion of the “mock” crash, students will assemble in the north gym. During the assembly, speakers will talk about the dangers of drinking and/or texting while driving and students will watch a powerful video on texting and driving. The School District in cooperation with area public safety agencies including Papillion Police, Sarpy County Sheriff, Papillion Fire Dept., and Alegent Midlands hospital will all be a part in this display. Timing is essential with Prom and graduation in the upcoming weeks ahead, in fact Papillion-La Vista High School prom is Saturday night. The ultimate goal of the event is to get the word out to our students and hope for a safe prom and graduation event as well as keeping our kids safe everyday and night. This event will take place at Papillion-La Vista High School. No streets will be closed, although The public should expect some minor traffic delays during the “mock” crash.
