School Board Update! The following items were discussed at the January 27, 2014, Board of Education meeting.
Action Items Include: Board Approves Second Issue of Bond Series – Up to $40 Million The District has currently completed two of the ten bond projects approved by District voters in November of 2012. Completed projects include the renovation at Parkview Heights Elementary and the installation of computer fiber throughout the District. The total bond issue was for $59.6 million. Currently, the Board of Education has authorized the issuance of $9.9 million in bonds. Scott Keene, of Ameritas Investment Corp, was at the board meeting to discuss the issuance of the second phase of the bond series. Construction is currently underway on the renovation at Golden Hills Elementary and the construction of the new elementary school, located just north of Werner Park. By summer, the renovation at La Vista Junior High and the construction of the new middle school will also be in progress. In an effort to capitalize on low interest rates and obtain enough money to pay for current projects, the Board authorized Ameritas to issue up to $40 million in bonds for the 2014 calendar year. Ameritas is anticipating a true interest rate of 3.85% and fees not to exceed 1.1%. The marketing of the bonds will begin immediately.
Board Renews Contract with District Auditor The Board approved the renewal of a three year contract for O’Donnell, Ficenec, Wills & Ferdig to conduct the audit of PLSD finances. The contract includes the audit of funds, the single audit act, the annual financial report and worker’s compensation payroll audit. The annual fees would begin at $23,900 for the first year and $25,600 for year three.
