Launched in 2017, The KNOW WomenTM began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Collaborative around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together, and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW WomenTM has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

AMBASSADOR Sunshine. A name given to the state we live in, and as the first Floridabased communities within the Know Women collaborative, we are proud of where we call home. Sunshine. A representation of the light within each of us. When the world dimmed in the early months of 2020, the women of Tampa Bay radiated. When the days felt heavy and the hours were cold, the ladies of KNOW lifted the shadows with brightness, and offered a familiar warmth that filled every corner of our citiesproving that the “Sunshine State” is also the perfect name for the strong female leaders, creators, and entrepreneurs that nourish life in the Bay. For three full years, I’ve had the honor to serve as the ambassador for Tampa, St Pete, and Clearwater. With each new Book and at every launch, I am reminded that this role is something that fulfills a great passion of mine. This year, I realize the immeasurable blessing this opportunity really brings—not just in what I get to do, but in the authenticity of the connections that permeate our KNOW Tampa Bay community. My great wish for you in the coming year is that you soak up every bit of this celebration of sisterhood, and bask in the invigorating sunshine.

Xo,

Julie 2020 7

KATHRYN TERRAFERMA BAYSHORE BISCUIT COMPANY

Kathryn was inspired to start Bayshore Biscuit Co. in 2016 by her namesake and maternal grandmother. Grandmother “Toosie” (what those close to her call her) was the one that first taught Kathryn how to make buttermilk biscuits on an antique marble pastry table. Kathryn went on to graduate from the Le Cordon Bleu. Bayshore Biscuit was founded with the simple principle of wanting to bring the love and joy she associates with her biscuits to Tampa. Every biscuit is made by hand with no shortcuts, she believes the extra time she takes is worth it for the final result. She has six signature flavors available year round and rotates a select few seasonally. One flavor that has a special place on the menu is the Strawberry Biscuit with a decedent Strawberry Glaze, an ode to Plant City, where she grew up. SHANTEL LINDEN CYPRESS GULF DEVELOPMENT

When life handed her broken parts, St. Mary-of-the-Woods alumna Shantel (Le) Linden used her power (and power tools) to build the broken parts into a beautiful new whole. As her marriage dissolved and her desire to show her daughter a strong female role model grew, Shantel started using power tools to decorate her new townhome. She attributes her strong sense of community with females, which draws her to KNOW, to her years at the all-women liberal arts college. Shantel learned first-hand the importance of female role models in encouraging women to become a part of an industry. These foundation-shaping years mixed with the adrenaline from creating broken into whole that makes Shantel such a strong leader at Cypress Gulf Development where she combines her creative marketing skills, the feel of power tools, and civil-site experience to dive into the field and promote all women in construction as the head of Human Resources and Marketing.

KRISTEN BROWN TRIBE SEMINOLE HEIGHTS

As a girl, Kristen Brown would spend hours running, tumbling, and cartwheeling in the after-school program at her local rec center. It was nothing fancy, but open to all and felt like home; a safe space to exercise, create and thrive. In 2019, Kristen brought that energy to Seminole Heights with TRIBE, a community-focused non-profit that offers unique and affordable learning experiences. Visited by more than 700 families in the first year, and powered by more than 130 volunteers, TRIBE is a 2,500-square foot community center that offers more than 50 fun and educational classes per week including yoga, music, art, coding, cooking, and science. All classes are drop-in, cost $5, and are eligible for scholarships. Today, Kristen’s still running (and sometimes tumbling!) as she juggles all the moving parts and community partners that make TRIBE such a vibrant and exciting place. She still makes time to travel, practice yoga, and to spend time with her son, Logan.

JACKIE TOLEDO

Jackie Toledo is no stranger to surpassing expectation and breaking the glass ceiling. Born in Peru and raised in the U.S., Jackie was taught by her parents that anything is possible. When it was time for college, Jackie was determined to enter the STEM field of civil engineering, despite it being male-dominated. Receiving a Latina Scholarship from the University of South Florida, she succeeded to become a Licensed Professional Engineer working on local transportation and infrastructure issues. But this determined powerhouse wasn’t done yet—she also started and managed two small businesses, while raising 5 amazing children, ranging in age from 9 to 21. Recognizing the help she received along the way, Jackie looked for ways to give back to her community. In 2011, she established a scholarship at USF to help and mentor Latino students. Then in 2015, she ran for her first political campaign for Tampa City Council. It was a tough loss, but rather than sitting down, she reorganized and relit the fire to run again in 2016—this time for the Florida House of Representatives. Again, she plunged into the male-dominant field that is Florida politics and handily won the seat. Since 2016, Jackie has fought for public safety and the interests of families and children across the state. One of her proudest moments was rallying bipartisan support to ban texting and driving, signed into law in 2019. This mom, small-business owner, and recently re-elected State Representative for House District 60 carves her own path and overcomes any challenge with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.

from the

FOUNDER & CEO

A representation of the light within each of us. When the world dimmed in early 2020, the women of Pinellas radiated. When the days felt heavy and the hours were cold, the ladies of KNOW lifted the shadows with brightness, and offered a familiar warmth that filled every corner of the county- proving that the “Sunshine State” is also the perfect name for the strong female leaders, creators and entrepreneurs that nourish life in the Bay. For three years, I’ve had the honor to serve as the ambassador for Tampa, St Pete, and Clearwater. With each new Book launch, I am reminded that this role is something that fulfills a great passion of mine. This year, I realize the immeasurable blessing this opportunity really brings—not just in what I get to do, but in the authenticity of the connections that permeate our KNOW community. My wish for you in the coming year is that you soak up every bit of this celebration of sisterhood, and bask in the invigorating sunshine. Xo,

Julie

NATALI ROSHAU LASH ADDICT STUDIO

Natali’s story of hard work, determination & passion has allowed her to create her very own ‘American Dream’. Being a political refugee from Cuba, she came to America at the age of 18 with no family & didn’t speak English. She took the money she had saved from waitressing to get her esthetician license and soon got trained in eyelash extensions. After years of perfecting her craft she knew it was time to build something great. That’s when ‘Lash Addict Studio’ was born. Starting by herself in a 500sq ft studio downtown St Pete, five years later Natali and her team of the most talented & hard-working lash artists in the industry, has made Lash Addict Studio the largest & most recognizable eyelash extension studio in St. Pete. Natali’s greatest hope is to keep growing the ‘Lash Addict Family’ and to continue making the world a more beautiful place, one eyelash at a time.

SUSANNE BYRAM THE LEFT BANK BISTRO

Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark; Susanne Byram’s globe-trotting travels began as an International stewardess for SAS in her early twenties. Through these experiences grew a love for Le Rive Gauche in Paris in the 1920’s; the art, the history, the food, the wine, and the conversations would later be the inspiration for The Left Bank Bistro in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. When she purchased the two buildings on MLK in 2017, she knew the brick house originally built in 1922, was destined to be transformed into the vision she had for a bistro that would bring you back to the days of the 1920s in Paris. Her love of design led to the renovation of the second building, called The Market At Left Bank. The Market offers a one-stop-shop for all your home decor. She always knew she wanted to be a part of the excitement and magic of television. She got her first taste when she interned for “The Ellen Show” and E! Entertainment. @KendallKirkhamSloan @KendallKirkham PHOTO CREDIT: HOWIE MAC PHOTO

KELSEY CURLS MAKE-A-WISH SOUTHERN FLORIDA

With a passion in events and fundraising, Kelsey Curls found her niche when she began working for Make-A-Wish Southern Florida over four years ago. Kelsey has focused her efforts to planning signature events that raise collectively over $1M each year. Every dollar raised from these signature events goes directly to fulfilling the mission of Make-A-Wish by granting wishes for children with critical illnesses in the Tampa Bay community. Under her direction, over 400 children have had their wishes granted and lives changed forever. Just like Make-A-Wish Southern Florida’s vision to grant the wish of every eligible child, Kelsey has a mission of her own to touch the lives of everyone in her community through her philanthropic efforts. Kelsey is proud to call the Tampa Bay community home. She was born and raised in Clearwater, is a graduate of the University of South Florida and currently resides in St. Petersburg.
