from the

FOUNDER & CEO

Launched in 2017, The KNOW Women began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Collaborative around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together, and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Women has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

AMBASSADOR From the vibrant, eclectic streets of the Third Ward and our beautifully expanding downtown, to the winding, leafy paths through Lake Country, there is an undeniable energy that is Milwaukee. We are a community rich in diversity, steeped in the arts, alive with celebration of culture and cuisine, where sports fans abound and Midwestern work ethic takes root. With four distinct seasons to enjoy and neighborhoods that nourish the soul, it is with great pride that I call Milwaukee home.

To the women of this book: CONGRATULATIONS on being legacy members of KNOW Milwaukee! As I have gotten to know each of you, I am blown away by the level of passion, creativity, and commitment you bring to your businesses and your communities. The pages of this book are filled with a sisterhood of women coming together for connection, collaboration and support. May you be strengthened by these relationships as we celebrate the empowerment of the women who make Milwaukee thrive. Our voices are stronger together when we LIFT + RISE!

I am proud to be on this journey with you.

BUSINESS BEAUTY Spa in Delafield with her husband, Craig. Stacy Moore became a partner in 2018 and looks forward to continuing the legacy. Craig Berns Salon Spa’s success is due to two core values that Mary Beth and her team have worked over the past 30 years to grow; philanthropy and continuing education.

MARY BETH BERNS / CRAIG BERNS SALON SPA

Craig Berns Salon Spa is more than your typical salon. This team is a pillar of the Lake Country and Milwaukee Metro communities as well as a place where many stylists achieve their dreams under the loving direction of a passionate owner and community leader.

Philanthropy and Giving Back

be extremely missed.” The salon hosts multiple fundraising efforts over the course of the year and has a “never say no” policy to 501c3’s asking for donations. The front desk staff is empowered to provide a donation to any organization or event. A Team That Learns Together Guests know when they walk into the salon, they’re receiving the best care and the top techniques. The salon has a unique New Hire Training Program that’s a combination of the training in the latest trends and learning the stylists’ career goals.

craigbernssalonspa@gmail.com

The entire team sets aside every Tuesday morning for continuing education. This may look like an expert coming in to teach, team-led training, or anything the salon should be up-todate on. By continually investing in her team, guests know they are experiencing the best service and they’re excited to keep coming back. Mary Beth is active in the community through various networking groups, volunteering, and mentoring young business owners.

SHAWNA ENRIGHT SKW EXTENSIONS When asked by others what Shawna’s best quality is, majority will answer her passion. Shawna’s passion is what has driven her to offer the best, unique services to her clients. Shawna knew there was something missing in her clientele services, thus beginning her hair extension education journey. She became a pioneer in her area as she traveled the country, training to become a certified hand-tied hair expert. Challenges were presented, hurdles were overcome and in one short year Shawna was nominated “SKW Extension Artist of the Year” at the Tied Together conference in 2019. Shawna’s success has brought her many opportunities. She successfully opened up a chair rental extension salon named “Kalon Salon + Extension Bar”, became a mentor, worked NYFW, opened up a second business in Phoenix during this pandemic, became a SKW educator, and will be launching her very own mink eyelash line, Kalon Extensions. Shawna feels strongly about the word Kalon, which means “beauty that is more than skin deep”. It has connected her passion for all things extensions and desire to build a community of confident clients and educated stylists around the country. shawnaenright.com shawna.enright@yahoo.com @shawnaenrighthair PHOTO CREDIT: KATIE SOYKA PHOTOGRAPHY

“You can take control and make use of whatever is holding you back.” This is at the core of Ariel Kopac’s philosophy that drove her to start a business coaching practice focused on mindset and limiting beliefs. While working as a trainer and coach in financial services, Ariel became determined to crack the code on how to break through the mental blocks that were holding people back from the business and life they desired. JOANN BROWNE VILLAGE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS

JoAnn is a Nurse Practitioner with a passion for personalized healthcare and bridging gaps in healthcare. She knew there must be a better way of meeting patients’ needs and took healthcare back to the basics. She opened Village Primary Care Providers with the mission to offer affordable, accessible, quality healthcare to all. In spring she saw the needs of the people being set aside because of fear and decreased services. She found creative ways to reach her patients while limiting risk and was a leader in early testing and management of COVID patients. VillagePCP stayed open, seeing patients who needed care while others closed their doors, often seeing patients in their homes or outside to avoid spread. Currently, she is championing COVID care needs in her community by mass-testing and opening a COVID clinic so that anyone can receive timely care without overloading emergency services or putting others at risk.

TANYA MURPHY CRUISE PLANNERS

“Who uses a Travel Advisor anymore?” Tanya Murphy asked the same question even as she considered owning a travel agency. During her 16 year corporate career, she always took every vacation day, every year. And for a long time, that was enough. Until it wasn’t. She explored the opportunity, and once she realized how many people were coming back to personalized travel planning, she knew she’d found her calling. In her spare time, you might find Tanya on a golf course, maybe at a poker table, perhaps trying her hand at stand up comedy, hanging with her Husband of 20 years and their fur babies, or deep in the ocean somewhere with a SCUBA tank on her back. Tanya thrives on memorable experiences and new challenges, and it’s the desire to help others do the same that drives her business and her life.

TOYA WASHINGTON WISN 12 ABC

Mom, wife and award winning journalist, Toya Washington has been with WISN for 18 years and co-anchors 12 News at 5:00. Raised in Minneapolis, (she’s still a Vikings fan) Washington “crossed over” to graduate from UW-Madison and is now on the Board of Visitors for UW’s SJMC. Washington is also passionate about her work with Hope Street where she serves on the Board of Directors. When she isn’t in your living room, Washington is watching her daughters play sports, working out, cooking, traveling and finding ways to “upcycle” anything from jewelry and clothes to furniture. Washington says she’s, “genetically predisposed to bargain hunting” and has a slight Pinterest addiction, which is fed by her obsession with secretly wanting to be an interior designer. While she and her husband Brian are both accomplished in their careers, what they’re most proud of are their two daughters, Alivia and Maya.

AMY WALBERG PRESS SELTZER Amy recognized opportunity in a chance wish for “seltzer with a little something.” Inspired, she channeled her advertising acumen, international savvy, and mission to serve women into founding PRESS Premium Alcohol Seltzer. Her innovative seltzer cocktail has taken the male-dominated beverage industry by storm. Amy developed the first PRESS flavor profiles in her kitchen with women in mind, brewing up sophisticated flavor combinations inspired by her global culinary explorations. She brought PRESS to market in 2015, when the hard seltzer category was nonexistent. Naysayers only fueled Amy’s determination to market her elegant seltzer. Five years later, Amy’s is the only woman-owned seltzer among the top-10 brands in a now burgeoning beverage category. PRESS has national distribution, glowing media accolades, and the backing of Constellation Brands. As her star rises, the sparkling taste of PRESS continues to reflect Amy’s belief that all of life’s delicious moments are meant to be savored.
