Knights of Columbus San Gabriel Valley Chapter

San Gabriel Valley Chapter President Mark Edward Padilla

Brother Knights,

When I contemplated upon the San Gabriel Valley Chapter’s theme for this Columbian Year, I choose a Bible verse that has great meaning in my life. In fact I have expressed to my wife that I want these same lines placed on the prayer cards for my funeral. This may seem morbid, however we must recall the words stated in our initial degree, “Tempest Fuguit, Memento Mori,” “Time Flies, Remember Death.”

The verse chosen is from Isaiah 40:31, “They shall run and not grow weary.” Brothers, it is amazing to think how quickly this Columbian Year has progressed, the first quarter is done! It is also amazing to consider how much we have accomplished.

journey that led me to becoming the California College Council Coordinator. This culminated with a trip to Supreme in New Haven, Connecticut on September 30th.

I was blessed to take four other young Brother Knights with me and we had an incredible weekend: we prayed at the tomb of our Founder Blessed Fr. Michael J. McGivney; we had dinner in the basement of St. Mary Church where the Knights of Columbus was founded on October 2, 1882; we attended a reception at our Order’s Museum; we took pictures with our Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly and Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York City.

sponsored a Eucharistic Procession from Mission San Gabriel to St. Anthony Church. What a tremendous testament it was to carry our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist throughout the city streets with 80 people! We conducted this procession on October 12th in honor of our namesake Christopher Columbus and Our Lady of Pillar.

It was great to see so many of you at the Chapter Installation. How wonderful it was to have such a beautiful Mass celebrated by our Bishop David O’Connell and have in attendance our Past State Deputy Dr. Noel Panlilio, State Deputy Rene Trevino, State Chaplain Fr. John Grace, and Past Chapter President Thomas Quintana.

On September 12th, the day after the Installation, I began a

I am excited at the prospect of starting Knights of Columbus College Councils throughout the State, but particularly here in the San Gabriel Valley. Cal State LA and the first Junior College in the Order’s history, East Los Angeles Community College, are in the works for new Councils in our Chapter. Imagine speaking to young men in our local colleges about Jesus. It is our duty to bring our Catholic faith to the public.

Our Chapter also brought our Catholic faith to the public as we

This month is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, please carry it always and pray it often! We need our Lady’s guidance as we go about our daily battles. One battle we are asked to lead is against Prop 1, please read Page 3 and get into the fight. Also, let us honor our spiritual leaders on November 11th at our Clergy Appreciation Dinner. Brothers, let us run and not grow weary, Vivat Jesus!

As if you needed more reasons to pray the Rosary, have you heard of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s 15 promises for those who pray it regularly?

When the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Dominic and gave him the Rosary devotion, she also gave him these 15 promises of spiritual benefits for those who pray it.

At least that’s the story. As historians have pointed out since the 17th century, there’s no evidence of this story prior to the 15th century, when it was popularized by Bl.

The California Catholic Conference, on behalf of ALL our bishops in California, is seeking assistance from us to campaign against Prop 1. Please prayerfully consider sharing your time as explained below:

We have a very specific ask for the Knights and their families in CA. As you know, we have been working for months in our (Arch)dioceses and parishes statewide to evangelize the beauty of the gift of life and to educate people on the evil of Prop 1. As we enter into the last weeks of the campaign, we need to make sure people remember to vote, and to vote against Prop 1!

While your main goal of distributing a newsletter might be to sell your product or service, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers.

A great way to add useful content to your newsletter is to develop and write your own articles, or

include a calendar of upcoming events or a special offer that promotes a new product.

We remember the amazing work Knights did on Prop 8, the assisted suicide initiative, and SB 360 the "confession bill". We know the power of the Knights working together on an issue such as this.

We invite all Knights in CA, along with their families, to join in the Get Out the Vote effort for the No on Prop 1 campaign.

Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Publisher offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you’re finished writing your newsletter, con-

We invite each person to participate as an individual. You will not be representing any faith, group or political party. Instead, you will be given a list of phone numbers to call through an online platform, and a scripted message asking people to oppose Prop 1.
