City / Pittsburgh, PA Program / 61 units, 6,000 sq. ft. commercial space Client / TREK Development Group Completed / 2010 Awards / 2010 AIA Pittsburgh Preservation Award; 2010 Pennsylvania Commonwealth Award; 2010 AIA California Council Award The historic 68,000 sq. ft. (12-story) Century Building in downtown Pittsburgh was built in 1907. This LEED gold, adaptive reuse project now houses 61 units of mixed income housing (40% affordable) offering raised platform studios to two bedroom loft units. Amenities include a rooftop patio as well as a community room and gym on the 3rd floor. The ground level restaurant remains and floors 2 and 3 were gutted and renovated for office use. An existing easement north of the building was repurposed as a geothermal field and the site for a Bicycle Commuter Center. The center recycled two shipping containers and provides residents and the public secure bicycle storage year round. Both the building and bike center were envisioned as part of the larger program to revitalize downtown Pittsburgh.
