Dust Collector

A process of power generation through dust clouds

Dust Collector introduces the concept of a movable and autonomous power generating infrastructure for secluded topographies resembling both the infrastructure attributes and the process of dust harvesting in order to produce energy and develop alternative agricultural techniques activating the metaconditions of a rural wilderness. Dust is collected by robotic vaccum-cleaners-drones from the nearest cities, while energy is generated from the electrostatic charges of the formed dust clouds. Physical forces as the key tool for the function of the Dust Collector provoke the concept of a closed loop system; set up in the middle of a deserted land, where no need of any kind of concrete supporting network is needed, treating the energy of a natural phenomenon by transforming its catastrophic capacity to a free source of power for in situ consumption.

The Drone-Cleaners travel to the nearest cities to collect dust from the urban environment, for bringing it back to feed the infrastructure. At the same time of the dust unloading, they charge their batteries to be able to make another travel.

The Plug-in Wall is where the unloading of the dust from the drones and their battery charge take place, while slots behind the wall end up the dust into the silo.

Electrical Discharge Attractors. This lightning rod like forms attract the electrical charges which take place inside the dust-cloud, while transporting them to the main generator of the infrastucture to be transformed into electricity.

city

for workers

Taking place in a non specific site work.live. consume is about an introvert city where individual farmers and workers spend all the everyday life in a 1km x 1km topographic. The city is organised by buildings only in the perimeter of the square, leaving an empty space in the middle dedicated exclusively for famring. The structures are columns-like sizing 6m x 6m, where in the fist two floors markets take place resulting a public space on the ground level of scattered shop-windows. The upper floors are for dwelling and take different shapes for creating luxury balconies for enjoying the spectacle of the labor in the middle space. Each individual owns 100 m2 of the empty territory for managing it. Finally all the entertainment spots (gym, pools, restaurants & bars) are placed on the outside as an escape reflex.

Urban Taxidermy Research for in the

managing the center

unused of

building-stock Thessaloniki

Since the historical center of Thessaloniki's town is characterised by abandoned blocks of multi-storey buildings, this project tries to investigate the possibilities of managing the unused build-stocks by taking advantage of the legislation for the value of the ''build air''. Matching on the rooftops of the old blockstock, the new continuous building molds the old skyline for taking its shape which results a vice-versa archaeology-landmark. Once the new building is completed the old structures which was functioning as static system at that point, can start to be demolished and be replaced by steel columns, while revealing an open free public plan on the ground level.

The project initially focused on developing the design steps that would reunite a bisected landscape by a stream while considering it a cluster of tourism-facilities. This complex creates a diagrammatic constellation on the site organizing a ''stitch'' on it. The ''stitchin'' is highlighted with extensions of the basic structures toward each other, creating ramps, bridges, shelters and event traces on the ground according to the program requirements. These joins enable the general understanding of the gesture as a ''continuous'' of buildings, natural landscape and Aegean sea.

Terrace Square An unused square in

terrace becomes the center of

a public Thessaloniki

The project suggests the transformation of an existing, unused rooftop into a public square. Public means that everyone has free access to it, while the existing uses of a school theater coupled with a gym of the building below, are treated as alternative activators and extented practices for the upper square. Except the roof cover of the perimeter all the other interventions are the existing elements themselves, transformed into usefull or funny objects according to the programme's needs.

center

i-bazaar is a hi-tech bazaar & media art center located in a huge parking area created in-betweeen different malls in the suburbs of Thessaloniki. Attempting a redefinition of the common experience of an open air market, this digital-fair center seeks to organize itself in an ever-shifting environment of a high mobility car lot. A complex of three chambers, used as a basic functional modulor serving vertical circulation, generates a shape grammar of space variations at the two sides of the building while the rest is circulation and drive-in market, introducing the built intervention as part of a sequence; from man, to vehicle, to building.
