Juara 3 - Education Rejuvenation as a Response towards Welcoming Golden Indonesia 2045

understood that there are so many obstacles holding back in accommodating Golden Indonesia. These obstacles are scattered over various sectors, such as economy, technology, agriculture, environment, politics, and many more. The presence of these obstacles are primarily caused by the absence of ingenious and up-to-date ideas as well as integrity of the people involved. In other words, Indonesia is in a state of emergency due to the lack of qualified human resources. Thus, it can be concluded that poor quality and outdated education has become the root of most of the obstacles holding us back. In fact, according to a data published by World Population Review, Indonesian education is ranked 54 out of 78 countries in 2021 Therefore, to welcome Golden Indonesia in 2045 we have to urgently and significantly rejuvenize education in Indonesia.

making them an inseparable part of their lives. There is no further explanation required on why moral and integrity education can be considered a failure in Indonesia Furthermore, because of textbook materials, students’ potentially creative and innovative minds become untouched and unsharpened.

As Indonesia gained independence on

August 17, 1945, Soekarno, our founding father, had high expectations regarding the fate of this country As a forward-thinking individual, he had thought of a vision for Indonesia in 100 years, famously known as Golden Indonesia He targeted that in 2045, Indonesia will become a developed country, equivalent to superpower countries. However, such a vision would be preposterous without contribution from Indonesian citizens, specifically those who are going to be in their productive age (15-64 years old) during 2045.

The matter of contention is, how can we guarantee the quality of contribution and contribution itself from Indonesian citizens during the specific year? Firstly, it should be

In advance, the proper definition of education must be understood. According to Aristotle, education can be defined as the process of training an individual to fulfill their aim by exercising all the faculties to the fullest extent as a member of society. Education is often misunderstood as only the process of training intellectual intelligence, through subjects like math, chemistry, or physics Whereas, education also includes training humans to become more humane, by sharpening their conscience.

Although there are several reasons why Indonesian education can be categorized as poor, for starters, it is important to focus on the flaws of the system and curriculum

The Indonesian curriculum emphasizes immensely on theoretical information, rather than practical daily life applications For instance, the so-called “innovation” in building students' morals and integrity turns out to be merely textbook material. Students are expected to memorize definitions of morals and integrity, instead of actually

R a t h e r t h a n m e m o r i z a t i o n , t h e curriculum should apply beyond textbook studies to show students that materials thought to them are applicable and can be taken advantage of for daily life. For instance, in building moral and integrity, students should be pushed to join social activities, such as neighborhood cleaning and social services. In fact, this should be included as a requirement for students to graduate. By doing their part for the community, moral and integrity will naturally grow and root inside their hearts. It unquestionably becomes an inseparable part of every sector of their lives. In addition, this should also be applied to other subjects. The method of teaching can involve asking students to solve problems in order to squeeze creativity and innovation from their mind, as well as sharpen problem solving skills.

Secondly, the Indonesian educational system itself experiences the lack of teachers, specifically qualified teachers. Yes, indeed it is ironic that the lack of qualified teachers is caused by the education system itself. In fact, it can be visualized as a vicious cycle. Substantial number of teachers are unwilling to learn and grow. For instance, a lot seem unresponsive and uninterested in learning, preparing, and adapting to the new and improved Merdeka curriculum. Whereas, the Merdeka curriculum requires the contribution of teachers in creating their own curriculum, more suitable and applicable to the students they are teaching. Some are still captured in traditional teaching methods that emphasize on the lowest level of thinking, memorization.

There are two main reasons for the lack of qualified teachers. To begin with, teachers’ salaries in Indonesia are categorized as low. It is known for not being equivalent to the blood, sweat, and tears involved in the occupation. Furthermore, teachers are not categorized as a prestigious or respectable occupation, despite the fact that it has the capability to positively change the course of a student’s life Understanding this, the government should take part in guaranteeing the future life of teachers. This can be done by giving them child support, insurance, routine health checks, and pension funds. As the government intensifies their focus towards this meritorious occupation, a rise in teachers' quality of teaching as well as potential teachers will undoubtedly occur.

Thirdly, the Indonesian government does not provide suitable textbooks as a media of receiving information. Textbooks are generally filled with unnecessary texts and information The layouts are unsupportive, making the brain unresponsive in receiving new information. In addition, there is some misinformation that could mislead students Therefore, the government should rejuvenize their textbooks by fixing misinformation, trimming unnecessary texts, and uncluttering layouts. This way, schools and students are elective to spend unnecessary funds to buy other reference books.

In conclusion, Golden Indonesia 2045 can only be achieved through education. As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” With proper education, we can prepare the upcoming generations to become qualified human resources that build and prepare Indonesia to welcome Golden Indonesia in 2045.
