Don Bosco College, Maram, is a minority Catholic Educational Institution established and administered by the Salesians of Don Bosco, of Dimapur Province, a Religious order of the Catholic Church. It offers Honours and General Degree courses in Computer Applications, Arts, Commerce and Science streams and Arts and Commerce courses in Plus Two Level at the College campus.

THE LOCATION The College is located in a spacious campus about 20 kms away from the town of Senapati on Kohima – Imphal NH 39. The college is well linked with transport vehicles that ply between Mao and Senapati.

THE MANAGEMENT The Salesian Province of Dimapur, one of the biggest educational agencies in North East India, actively involved in the field of education right from its inception is rich in expertise and experience. It has over 45 professionally run educational institutions from Kindergarten to Degree Colleges. Most of these educational institutions are in the remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Upper Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.

Don Bosco College, Maram follows Semester system under Manipur University (MU). A semester lasts nearly six months. At the end of the semester, the selected students have to appear for a University Examination. One of the elective subjects of (ii) will be the honours paper in the third year, namely V and VI semesters. The choice of the honours paper will depend on the over all performance during the four semesters. A. ADMISSION In order to be admitted to Class XI Arts and Commerce, a student should have passed class X examination. A student opting for Commerce Stream should have secured at least 40% marks in Mathematics. In order to be admitted to Degree courses, a student must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the subject of his/ her choice in the Higher Secondary School Examination. If a student opts for a subject not studied at Hr. Sec. Level for his/her Degree Course, he/she should have obtained an overall aggregate of at least 50% marks.

Plus II Degree

ADMISSION PROCEDURES Those seeking admission will have to face an interview and a written examination. Interview will be held on specified days, from 9.30 am to 01.30 pm on 2 June, 6 June,10 June,13 June, 17June, 20 June, 24June and 27 June 2011. The candidate has to come accompanied by parent/guardian along with duly filled in Application Form and his/her self attested mark sheet. Ordinarily, admission to the various courses will be made soon after the publication of the results of Class X and Class XII Examinations. Admission will be on the basis of the applicant’s merit and selection in the interview and the entrance test. Admission will be closed when sufficient number of students is admitted. The candidates should be ready to undergo medical test by a doctor, as and when directed by the Principal. Limited College Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. However, there are a few private hostels in and around the college.

UNIFORM

All the fees are to be cleared in three installments as per schedule given in the Handbook. For further information on Fees kindly look up the College Notice Board. Fees once paid shall not be refunded. Fees are charged on yearly basis.

White Shirt, Navy Blue Trousers / Midi, Black Shoes, Black Socks, Black Belt, Striped Necktie (available in the college), Navy Blue Coat, Navy Blue Sweater. A specimen Uniform will be displayed at the College counter. Waist Coats are not permitted in the college. The College has arranged professional tailors who provide uniforms at concession for the College students. All the students are expected to come to the College in full uniform and they must be clean. EXAMINATIONS The institution will conduct weekly tests, assignments and term examinations during the academic session. Attendance during tests and examinations is compulsory. The Council and Manipur University conduct exams at the end of every academic year / Semester. Selection for the Council / University Examinations will be determined on the basis of the student’s total record of performance in the above tests and minimum of 90% attendance and performance in the selection examination. A student who fails or absents in a selection examination will be debarred from appearing the University / Council Examination. The Principal’s decision in this regard will be final and binding.

DISCIPLINE Those who are admitted to the College should feel proud to be a member of the College. The future of the College depends very much on the discipline, general behaviour and performance of the students themselves. Students must have all the required textbooks soon after admission to the College.


Every student must have an identity card, which will be available from the College Office. Students’ Handbooks are issued to students at the beginning of every academic year. It contains all the relevant information and guidelines concerning the academic matters. Attendance at classes is compulsory. A student absenting himself/ herself from one or more classes will lose the day’s attendance. Any student who is absent for 10 class days continuously without prior permission will be considered to have left the College. No leave during class hours will be granted unless the parent/guardian comes requesting for it personally. Smoking and the use of liquor or any kind of intoxicants / drugs are strictly forbidden. Indulgence in such habits is liable to make a student to be suspended / expelled from the college with immediate effect. Use of mobile phones by students in the campus is prohibited. The institution offers PCO facility for the benefit of the students. Students are admitted on the clear understanding that they will observe the rules of the institution and accept the authority of the Principal. They are expected to be courteous and considerate towards others and maintain a high standard of personal behaviour. No misdemeanour or indiscipline will be tolerated. Erring students will be punished with fine / suspension / or any other suitable penalty.

The college authorities are in no way responsible for any indiscipline/misbehaviour of students outside the College campus. Eligibility Certificate and Migration Certificate for those who did not study under Board of Secondary Education, Manipur. 4. Two recent passport size photos (one to be pasted and the other to be pinned on the Admission Form).

If anyone wishes to take his/her Transfer Certificate during the year he/she will have to clear all fees up to the end of the academic year / Semester. A fee of ` 100/- will also have to be paid towards Transfer Certificate and ` 50 each for other certificates. Application for admission, examination and registration are valid only when they are accepted by the University / Council. The provisions of the Prospectus are subject to revision whenever necessary.

Department of English

Department of Political Science


GB Shaw once said: “Political Science is the science by which alone civilisation can be saved”. In ancient times the study of every subject was within the realm of a subject called political science. The basic tenets of every issue had been dealt with this subject. The subject of Political Science is mainly concentrated on the study of states, government, governance and the various aspects of political existence of an entity in the past, present and future. The study of political science will certainly enlighten the mind to grasp the humanity’s struggle to free himself/herself more and more. IV

Department of Sociology

The Department has produced good results in the University Examinations. It conducts regular departmental activities for students. The Department organises personality developmental programmes such as debate, essay competition, group discussion on issues related to contemporary Indian society, education tour of the country etc. The College library has a number of titles for the Department of Sociology. Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer is getting a prominent slot in the College. The up coming BCA classroom is really a boost to the Department. VI

Commerce is undoubtedly one of the most wanted course by any student. Quality and hard work is demanded of those opting to do commerce. VII

Department of science has well qualified full time faculty always inspiring and motivating students by being involved, dedicated and committed to their profession. Department of Mathematics

The department of Mathematics has got dedicated faculty who take up extra classes to make up the syllabus and help the students understand the syllabus. The well experienced faculty is a blessing to the department. X

Department of Economics

“Every man is rich or poor according to the degree in which he can afford to enjoy the necessaries, conveniences and amusements of human life” says Adam Smith, the father of Economics. It is a dynamic subject and it offers ample job opportunities to young minds. The department provides qualitative education in the field of economics. Great minds and achievers offer economics as their subject.

PUBLICATIONS The College has brought out its first publications with ISBN, the book titled “Historical and Sociological Aspects of Migration in Northeast India”. Many other books are being prepared for publications. They are: “Traditional Administrative System and Customary Laws of the Maram Tribe” expected to be in book stalls by the end of August, and “The Manipur Political Agency and the Frontier Problem, 1836 - 1891”

its motto “Not me but YOU” inculcates in the young minds love for service and social development. Peace Club: This club seeks to promote peace all over through humanitarian activities. Red Ribbon Club: This club enlightens the public and others about the evils of AIDS / HIV etc through street plays, programmes etc.

CLUBS / ASSOCIATIONS

Rowers: This is a wing of the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement. Through this club, the members are trained to be prepared and to be at the service of the nation.

All the students of Cl XI and Degree First Years are expected to be part of any one of the following Clubs or Associations.

Women’s Club: This club fosters study and reflection on women in society.

AICUF (All India Catholic University Federation) is involved in social upliftment programmes.

Anyone can be a member of “Jesus Youth”. The passed out students are requested to join the Alumni Association and to be in touch with Alumni Unit of Maram.

Campus Ministry: They take care to develop Salesian educational environment in the campus. They have outreach programmes in the villages through mobile library. Journalists Club: It consist of a group of students who are involved in writing for the college digital magazine, write up for various other publications. Media Club: These students represent the news and views through videography. They make eyes hear and ears to see through splendid camera effects. Music Club: This group is engaged in promoting music in the campus. They compose and sing, thus promoting the innate talents among the students. NSS: The three units of NSS (National Service Scheme) with
