Most Helpful Customer Reviews 33 of 36 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars A new take of the apocalyptic genre January 21, 2014 By Moore Ronson Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase In most disaster films, the story begins when a sudden event happens and quickly sweeps across the earth while no body is prepared for it. And there is always a man who is enlightened and knowledgeable enough to rebuild the world using his intelligence and courage. In this book, Argosy written by Jason Brandon, there is a college professor, Jack, who is going to rebuild the world from the aftermath of a new virus. The same old boring super hero story? Yes and no. Yes, the story is similar to most bestsellers in this genre. What make this book excels are the fabulous plot (with new elements), well developed characters and good writing style. The author portraited a world devastated by the virus with his vivid and beautifully descriptive words. The story is narrated by the main character, who brings you into his thinking throughout the story. This makes the story intensely exciting and engaging. Once you began following the footstep of Jack and his family, you can't put the book down. There are lots of classics in the apocalyptic genre and everyday new comers are entering the market. It is hard to stand out from the crowd but the author successfully made it. Argosy is an evocative work that deserves a place in your bookshelf.

What if an epidemic kills most of the people on earth, how would people react, who would survive. I'm assuming from the ending that there is a continuation in the works. Looking forward to the next installment of Argosy!

13 of 15 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging April 24, 2014 By Jessica Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase completely engaging take on the genre. I honestly loved this story because it was written with a restrained hand and strong emphasis on building the characters and relationships between them. often times end of the world stories focus to much on the gore and bloodiness. this story doors not and is so much the better for it. I was disappointed when it ended because I want to keep following this extended mish mash family through it's attempt to recreate society in the skeleton of the world lost. doesn't hurt its based in Ohio/Canada my home state (although I hail from the southern part I have a decent familiarity with the lake Erie region to feel a connection and investment immediately)

You knew that something awful was going to happen as history professor Jack goes about his day with a modern-day plague raging in the background. His suspicions that the illness would be the worst the world had ever seen turn out to be true, as most of the population is wiped out. I enjoy reading post-apocalyptic novels, and this one, with all of its twists and turns, was great. The author keeps you guessing as Jack and his family deal with what is left of the world. The characters are likeable, as are the family dynamics. The writing is fast-paced with thrills around every corner. Recommended! › See all 62 customer reviews (newest first)
