I bought this new book by the same author, and after reading the preface I believed that this author has a true insight into how a dog's mind might work. I will let you know how it goes. Florida Gram

Rutland Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase This is a great book on training your dog to understand basic commands at increasingly difficult levels. For example, she begins with 'stay' while you take a step back and increases the difficulty to 'stay' while you leave the room. The book is very well laid out and edited. It's easy to understand the step by step instructions. There are even troubleshooting instructions for those times your dog just isn't getting it. Using the basic training principles taught here, you could even train your dog to obey more commands than those taught in the book. I loved it!
2 of 3 people found the following review helpful 3.0 out of 5 stars Nice overview July 15, 2012 By Radek Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase This is a very beginner book. It definitely lives up to the "Simple Things" portion of the title. It only covers a small number of behaviors. Also, it ignores the theory behind dog training and focuses mainly on how to get a dog to perform specific behaviors. This is not at all bad. If you only want your dog to perform a limited number of everyday actions, this book will work. If you are looking for more advanced techniques for training your dog, this isn't it. If you are interested training a friend's dog or are looking to get started in the dog kenneling industry, this is not the book for you. The strongest point is that throughout the book, the author continuously reinforces the idea that working with your dog must be fun for both of you. Positive reinforcement is supported in every lesson. This is an enjoyable read and nice start for home training. More follow up readings will be helpful.
