Field Automation On the Way Field automation via Work Management (WM) will be implemented for Distribution Operator – Field (DOF) employees beginning in 2013. Field automation will eliminate most paper-related duties among DOF employees, including paper timecard entry and many other non-digitally performed tasks. There are many benefits to field automation via WM. Work can be dispatched directly to an employee’s WM electronic device, so they will not have to return to the office to acquire additional work. Detailed Work Instructions (DWI) and other safety and quality information, such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be accessible electronically for DOF employees in a laptop. Reports and timecards can also be submitted digitally. The implementation of field automation for Work Management will lead to more accurate records and reliability of information. Distribution Operator – Service employees and other companies in the Canadian Gas Association have previously implemented this technology with great success. Field trials will take place in the fall in both Airdrie and the Capital East regions with implementation set to begin in 2013. DOFs, foremen and clerks will all receive training at the time of rollout, as well as support to ensure comfort with the technology and software before, during and after implementation.
