Successful ISO Registration Audit for Leak Survey Program ATCO Gas’s Leak Survey Program recently completed a successful International Standards Organization (ISO) Registration Audit. This means the program has been externally assessed and complies with ISO standards. The audit took place June 11-21, covering Calgary, Brooks, Lethbridge, Edmonton and St. Albert. Over 40 staff were interviewed and countless records were reviewed. Prior to the audit, a team of 20 staff developed a plan to achieve registration. This plan included modification of several existing Detailed Work Instructions (DWIs), the development of new DWIs, Tool Fact Sheets for equipment, standardized forms, a new customer brochure, and a comprehensive training program. ATCO Gas previously received ISO registration in 2007 for Meter Reading operations. ISO registration resulted in increased consistency and reliability in meter reading across the province. Management recognized the benefits of the ISO program and was looking for another part of our operations to obtain ISO registration. The Leak Survey program was selected for registration because the program is typically staffed with Sons and Daughters, resulting in a high employee turnover rate and inconsistencies in method and success rates. “The result of this project is that we now have one provincial best practice for conducting leak surveys,” explains David Fleming, Quality Assurance Manager.
