COMING TO YOUR SENSES | FALLING FOR AUTUMN BY FRANKLIN FAIRLEY IG SERGIOSAVGE.CO

FRANKLINS ARTICLE

Leaves, pumpkins, coffee, and self care. These are the things that come to mind when I think of my favorite season of all……..Autumn. There’s something special about utilizing the smells, colors, and libations that bring me a sense of warmth, comfort, and serenity. I already know that some of you out there feel the same way. However, with this new norm that everyone is facing, how are we supposed to invite in the feeling of fall festivities while maintaining safe practices? Is it still safe to partake in the activities of last year? If this is a concern, you are in luck! In this article, I’ll be covering a few small things that you can introduce to your everyday walk of life to bring in all the fall feels. Aromatherapy is one of the more common ways to set the atmosphere or trigger a feeling or memory. The smell of my Madea’s warm sweet potato pie was always a sweet reminder that fall was here. To help remind me of that cozy feeling, I switch out my essential oil during the fall season. Bergamot, Cinnamon, and black pepper are just a few that I start torotate into my aroma and spa regimen.

PAGE 7 PAPER PLANNER ESSENTIALS

Sight and smell tend to go hand in hand when it comes to building an atmosphere. When one goes strictly traditional or creates a fun spin to it by bringing in small decor accents, one can incorporate the fall feeling into one’s home with ease! This year, I decided to go outside of the box with my usual aesthetic and introduce drip pumpkins into my interior design. By incorporating the already existing color palette of my home, I was able to introduce the pumpkins to arrangements without having to do a full overhaul to my home. This can also help cut the cost of supplies as well. Pumpkin spice tends to be the new epitome of food and beverage flavors, but there are so many other treats out there that bring the same vibe. This is the time of year to start switching over to soups, warm desserts, and hot beverages. I personally like to start drinking apple cider around this time of year. One warm cup in the morning helps with keeping me warm during the colder part of the day. Sweet potato pie is also a nice treat that I love to enjoy during this particular season. So, whether you plan on spending this time in your cozy home or going out and about, you can always bring a little slice of fall with you. Who knows? You are able to share that little slice of cozy and comfort with someone that you love! I hope you guys are feeling blessed and highly flavored. Today’s flavor: Salted Caramel Latte.

RECIPE PLANNING

Save Your Family Favorites BY: KEISHA GREENE IG: DRINKCOFFEE.MAKESTUFF

Let's talk about that drawer in the kitchen. You know...THAT one. The one filled with forgotten utensils, pop-off plugs from kitchen gadgets, instruction books that came with the air fryer and InstaPot that you got last year for Christmas, and scraps of note paper and index cards with recipes from your grandmother. Maybe it's just my kitchen drawer that I'm describing. One day after feverishly looking for something in that drawer, I decided that I would pull a Marie Kondo. After tossing all of the items that I really had no need for, I had a clean and organized kitchen drawer. I purged all of the things except for the recipes. For years, I had kept those scraps of paper and index cards. I still have most of them, but it saddens me when I think of how many of them I lost. Those that I still have now serve as mementos since many of them were written in my mother's and grandmother's handwriting. Going through those recipes brought back fond memories of family dinners and special occasions. I was struck by the notion that there was no way I could replicate my mother's southern cooking without some of t h os soeu tr he ec ri pn e cs o. o Ik innege dwei dt htoou ft i sg ou m r ee oouf t a wt h a yo steo rset coirpee sa .n dI pnreeesdeer dv et ot hf ei gmu. r e o u t southern cooking without some of A f tae rw sa ey a tr oc hs it no gr eo an nl idn ep ,r eI s he a ppened . t h o s e r e c i p e s . PAGE 9 PAPER PLANNER ESSENTIALS I don't know about you, but the onset of cooler weather always brings with it the start of comfort-food season (is that a thing?) for my family. In my case, it usually centers around baking. Growing up, I remember my mom always baking the most delicious deserts to signal the beginning of the fall and winter holidays such as rice pudding, sweet potato pie, and checkerboard pound cake. When I became a teenager, my mom began to trust me more and more in the kitchen. She shared with me recipes that had been tucked away in her own memories from her childhood. As we both grew older, and after having kids of my own, we began writing these recipes down. I wanted to make sure that my grandmother's recipes would not be forgotten and could be passed down throughout our family line. One of our family favorites is homemade apple crisp. This rich dessert has become my family's fall favorite. Today, I have a planner that I can pass down to my daughter, Kianna. It contains all of the family favorites as well as my mom's secret recipes. I almost always include a picture of the finished product (or at least a picture of what it should look like). It warms my heart that she, now as a 21-yearold, grabs my planner off the shelf when she is feeling adventurous enough to try her hand in the kitchen. I have no doubt that when she has a family of her own, this planner will be filled with all kinds of goodness that she can share with her future children. So what if you don't have any recipes just waiting for you in that kitchen drawer? Not to worry! Recipe planning can work for anyone. Not only do I use my planner to record the recipes from my childhood and the ones that my family favors, but I also record any new recipes that I find on the Internet on sites like Pinterest and Food Network. So go ahead and try it out! Grab a pen, a planner, and your favorite recipies and start a new tradition.

Thank you ladies so much for agreeing to this interview! Can you start off by introducing yourselves to those that may not know you? GOOSBY TWINS: Hello Everyone,Kristina and Kayla Goosby are influential twin duo known as theGoosbyTwins. The GoosbyTwins co-founded GoosbyTwins stationery. Theywere born on August 2, 1993 only three minutes apart and raised in Gardena,California. The GoosbyTwins were the youngest out of 5 children; thus, theyprovided each other with company, security and self-confidence. They are aninseparable dynamic pair that motivates and challenges each other to be the bestversion of themselves. Although they are fraternal twins, their individuality sets them apart.

BY: FRANKLIN FAIRLEY IG: SERGIOSAVAGE.CO YT: SERGIOSAVAGE.CO

It’s so amazing to see the journey that you ladies went through with your products! What were some of the obstacles that you guys had to overcome that made you as successful as you are today? GOOSBY TWINS: It has definitely been a difficult road to say the least. This coming year will be 5 years for us in business and truth be told we are still trying to overcome the obstacles we face on a daily basis. We are not at the level of success we would like to be at but we believe with everything comes purpose and soon enough we’ll be right where we want to be. How we overcome obstacles is by getting up and tackling each hurdle head on. We never stop nor quit. Getting people to like and support our product has been one of the biggest hurdles to date. One thing we learned to accept is that our biggest supporters would be people we didn’t know as opposed to those we do. Family, friends, and acquaintances are not the backbone behind GoosbyTwins Stationery; it's those who have seen our product from afar that really rock with the brand and for that we’re forever grateful. When you ask how we overcome those obstacles? It’s the support we receive from the unknowing that allows us to push through to the next step or phase in GoosbyTwins Stationery. Do you guys ever strongly disagree with each other on decisions? How do you guys handle it? GOOSBY TWINS: When it comes to us disagreeing on something pertaining to our business we always get through it. Luckily for us, we confide in our mother Natalie Goosby when we are having a disagreement. She is the middle woman behind what we do and how we’re able to accomplish so much. If there is something we are having trouble with we tend to bring it to our Mothers attention to get input and or gain clarity on certain matters. It really helps to have someone in our corner that knows who we are in and out (outside of our brand and knows us personally) and knows whether or not the decisions we make help and or hurt our brand.

KRISTINA AND KAYLA GOOSBY IG: GOOSBYTWINSPLANN

I know you ladies are twins, but do your planning styles mirror each other as well? If you had to name it, how would you describe each of your personal planning styles? GOOSBY TWINS: When it comes to the GoosbyTwins we are inseparable so believe it or not our style is similar especially when it comes to planning. We are functional driven. We tend to jot down all the information needed for us to live our days in fulfillment. It is important for us to be functional planners considering everything we have tackled throughout our weeks. Having a full-time job, in school, and owning our own business can be draining at times and for the moment the most beneficial thing for us is the functionality of our planner. Are there any shops you are interested in collabing with? GOOSBY TWINS: At the moment there isn’t anyone in particular who we would want to collaborate with but we’re open to what is out there. So if there is anyone who wants us to join them and make some Magic please do not hesitate to hit us up. What are some things that you two are doing to bring the autumn vibes into your lives? Funny enough we live in SoCal so we really don’t get the autumn feel. But we are trying to bring a SoCal West Coast twist to Autumn/Fall and hopefully we can bring it to the forefront very soon.

FALLING BACK INTO PLANNING

BY TOMECA HARDIN-HOWARD IG CHEASYPLANNING

When we think of Fall, what are some of the things that come to mind? Falling leaves, wearing boots, fall clothing, good weather etc‌ For me, well, I get excited about wearing boots and fall clothing. You may be wondering what I mean when I say falling back into planning. Well, I will be honest and say that before, just decorating spreads was enough. I was going between planners and had information all over the place. Until one day we got the news that we would be returning to work. I thought to myself I know what that means I can no longer keep holding all these thoughts in my head but I better get back to some serious planning. There is no way that I can stay organized without structure with my schedule. Also, with the kids going back to school I needed to help my daughter get organized as well. Do I have a system in place yet? Not exactly, but I am working on it. I always start with my catch-all. I am able to use several layouts and have them all in one planner for different purposes. Recently, we were informed that we would be returning back to the school building along with some of the students. Even though the kids started back on August 17th with remote learning, it was very much a surprise, and I had the immediate feelings of guilt, denial, frustration, fear- you name it. All of this came flooding over me and you know what my thoughts were? I need to get serious about planning if I want my life to be structured and balanced. When I mentioned guilt it was because I didn’t do the things I wanted to do before I went back to work full time. Mainly cleaning out the garage. I am sure we are all aware of what 2020 has been like for many and one thing that has been consistent is the lack of predictability. So many events and tragedies and changes have taken place and have left us in situations we did not foresee to sum it all up. I started to feel like I had no control over what was happening in my life or to me

. Gone are the days when I was just decorating the cute planner layouts. It is time to get to work and really start planning my life. I have learned that if I don't write it down it just might not happen. When I made the decision to eat healthy and exercise it was no small task. I had to keep track of what I was eating, skin care and my steps along with walking. I have a book bound wellness planner and I just do my tracking in that planner so that it can stay in one place which makes it easier for me to see my progress. With meal planning I use skinny notes with the meal planning sheets. Then I have family life, work, finances, social media etc...Having a catch all planner has made a significant difference in my life. I have realized that one planner and layout is just not enough for me. In my catch all I use up to 5 different layouts (horizontal, dashboard, and 2 vertical and 1 lined vertical) and this is my classic happy planner. I use wall calendars to see a month in a glance for dating and life events. I also have one for my workouts and skin care on the wall. Since I have older children, I also have to help them get organized, and there is no other way except through planning. Whether you are writing lists, keeping a wall calendar or through using a planner. School has been really challenging for my daughter who is in the tenth grade. This year there is more work, accountability and with having technology issues. Not to mention doing chores and self care. She came to me recently and just said she needed to get organized and she really needed a planner. Of course that was a proud moment for me. In hopes that we will have a better year next year it is all about how we prepare now. I am looking forward to enjoying this fall season.

Are the Winds of Change Blowing Our Fall Plans Away? BY MONIQUE MAY IG: THE MAY FLOW

The leaves are falling, the air is getting cooler, and clearly, fall has begun in this corner of the world. Many of us have already busted the sweaters and boots out! The familiarity of the fall season has us thinking of the plans we have and the activities we do around this time of the year. However, with the uncertainty of the times hanging in the air, does that mean that fall fun is ruined? Well, we at Paper Planner Essentials don’t think so! Fall festivities can still take place in new and reimagined ways. Before we discuss plans that we CAN make, let’s talk about the ones that might change. Fall festivals and state fairs- Most festivals and fairs have been cancelled due to the pandemic. This makes sense since these types of events usually bring large crowds from far and wide. With the possibility of unsanitary food stations and restroom situations, events like these will only exacerbate the spread of a virus. Fall concerts- for the same reasons listed above, you want to be cautious. Trick or Treating- Of course, parents can use discretion, but even though candy is wrapped, precaution will need to be taken when encountering numerous people.

PAGE 15 PAPER PLANNER ESSENTIALS

Now, HERE are some of the top fall activities that you can still plan! These fall favorites aren’t cancelled, despite the changing climate of the times: Visiting pumpkin patches- Since this activity is outside, it’s perfect for socially distant fun Fall crafting projects- From wreaths to yarn pumpkins to scarves, there are so many great crafting projects that are perfect for getting a sense of all and sparking creativity. Home decorating- Since we are staying home more anyway, why not plan to decorate for the season?Fall baking or cooking- This is perfect for recipe planner books. Revisit your favorite dishes or add new ones to your plans to try. Planning a nature walk or hike- The scenery will be beautiful! Having a bonfire in the backyard- You can invite a few friends or family members and play games or talk. Making s’mores- You can also make yummy s’mores inside the house over the stove or over the backyard fire. All in all, autumn can still be awesome, regardless of the changes that are going on around us. It just takes a little careful planning and consideration.

My name is Amira. I love sharing random pictures of my happy place to inspire others. Speaking from my experience, having an own space is very important for your soul. It does not matter if you have a big room or just a little corner, as long it is all yours! My little space used to be a random storage room. I have always wanted my own space where I can be my true self and be away from reality; A room where I can relax, create, plan and do my makeup. About 7 years ago I decided to change my storage room into a babe cave. I found my inspiration @ Youtube videos by influencers such as MissLizHeart, Slmissglam, Charmaine Dulak and many more to mentioned. I have also pinned some pictures on Pinterest that gave me great ideas to create and decorate my space.

PAGE 19 PAPER PLANNER ESSENTIALS Since I was a little girl I have always dreamed of having my own 'princess room' with my favorite colors: light pink and pastel! The base of my room is all-white to create a more spacious and neat look. The theme that I picked is mostly Parisian inspired: chic, girly and romantic! I love following planner girls on IG especially when they share their beautiful office spaces. It always gives me inspiration and new ideas. To be honest, I am never done with decorating my room. I like to change it from time to time. Decorating became a new hobby for me. I enjoy and love spending a lot of my "me time" in this room. It is my favorite place in the world!
