The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is located between Aragon and 69th Street on University Avenue. Directions From Interstate 8: Interstate 8 to 70th Street and proceed South. Turn West onto University Avenue. Directions From Highway 94: Highway 94 to Massachusetts Avenue. Proceed North on Massachusetts to University Avenue. Turn West onto University Avenue. Public Transit: San Diego Transit Bus Number 7 makes multiple stops in front of the Center throughout the day. MTS Shuttle Route 876 provides service to the Center throughout the day from the San Diego Lemon Grove Trolley Station and 70th and El Cajon Blvd.

Aquatics Center

Ice Arena

Water exercise, therapy, lessons and sports programs are available in three areas: 25 meter x 25 yard short course Competition Pool (80-82 degrees); Recreation Pool (84-86 degrees); enclosed warm water Therapy Pool (92-96 degrees).

The only recreational ice rink located in Southern San Diego County, the Ice Arena consists of a National Hockey League (NHL) regulation rink, which is used for hockey leagues, open skating, group and individual skating lessons and private parties.

Education Center

Performing Arts Center

Adjacent to the Performing Arts Center, the Education Center features a youth library, visual arts studio, technology center (computer lab), study hall, classrooms and tutoring rooms.

The state-of-the-art 33,000 square-foot Performing Arts Center consists of the Joan B. Kroc Theatre, dance studio, band and orchestra room, vocal and instrumental practice rooms and a large multipurpose conference room. The Joan B. Kroc Theatre is perfect for Broadway-quality shows with seating for 600, motorized orchestra pit, scenic arts facilities and dressing rooms.

Family Enhancement Center

This building houses The Salvation Army Family R e s o u rc e C e n t e r a n d a H e a d - S t art Child Development Center managed by the Neighborhood House Association, Administration Offices, and an indoor Skatepark.

Gymnasium & Fitness Center A multi-use center, this 56,000 square-foot building contains a fitness area with weight and cardiovascular exercise equipment, a group exercise class area, and an NBA regulation basketball court. The gymnasium is ideally suited for volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, and badminton. There is also a recreation area with foosball, air hockey, video games and table tennis.

Recreation Field, Challenge Course & Rock Wall Suitable for soccer, flag football and other outdoor sports, the 55,000 square-foot field is bordered on the south by a challenge course consisting of several low and high rope course elements, and a 30-foot tall rock-climbing tower.

Code Of Conduct & Discipline Policy In order to facilitate positive life experiences while at the Kroc Center, mutual respect between members, guests, and staff is required at all times. Failure to observe these policies will result in disciplinary action and/or termination of membership privileges. Center personnel have the right to refuse service to anyone deemed disruptive or abusive. • Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult (18 years and over) during all activities. Children over the age of five must use gender-appropriate bath and locker rooms. • Refrain from the use of foul language, abusive actions, and inappropriate behavior. • Lost membership cards must be reported. There is a $5 fee to replace a membership card. • No one under the age of 16 is allowed in the Fitness Area unless participating in a Kroc Center program or class. • Appropriate exercise attire is required (workout clothing and closed-toe athletic shoes). • Only light colored soft-soled shoes will be allowed on the Gymnasium floor. • A shirt and shoes are required at all times in the Fitness Center and Gymnasium. • Any logos or messages on clothing must be acceptable in a family setting. Individuals wearing gang-related attire will not be admitted to the facility. • With the exception of service animals, pets of any kind are not allowed in any Kroc Center venue.

Class/Program Cancellations Cancellations five or more days prior to the first class: full credit on your Kroc Center Account or you may choose to transfer to another class with no penalty. Cancellations less than five days prior to the first class: credit on your Kroc Center account or transfer to another class minus a $5 service charge. Cancellations after the start of a session: prorated credit on your Kroc Center account for the number of classes which have occurred (regardless of whether classes were attended), minus a $5 service charge.

Credit/Refund Policy The purpose of our credit/refund policy is to allow the Kroc Center to maintain quality programs and proper class ratios while maintaining flexibility for our members and guests. Refunds are only issued for programs that are cancelled by the Kroc Center. Credits are applicable toward any program at the Kroc Center. Credits are not redeemable for cash, nor put on any credit card account. Credits expire six months from date issued. Please see any venue Customer Service Desk for a credit request form. No credits or refunds are given for class passes, gift certificates, memberships or registration fees.

Day Camp Cancellations Cancellation seven or more days prior to start of camp session: Full credit towards Kroc Center Programs will be issued minus a $25 non-refundable deposit fee. Cancellation six days or less prior to start of camp session: Full credit towards Kroc Center Programs will be issued minus a $10 administrative fee and the $25 non-refundable deposit fee.

We maintain absolute transparency in our leadership, planning and reporting. We screen all staff and volunteers with extensive background checks. We train all staff and volunteers regarding our policies for working with minors and elder-dependent adults. We make available anonymous and convenient Notices of Concern, so that any staff, volunteer, member or participant can notify our headquarters if personal safety is a concern.

No pro-rated credits will be issued for partial attendance at a camp session or missed days of camp due to illness, behavioral issues, or any other reason. Credit application must be completed within one week of cancellation. No refunds will be issued unless a Day Camp session is cancelled.

Discounts Effective September 1, 2009, member discounts are not transferable to other family members. In order to receive a member discount, the registering participant must be a member (in good standing) of the Kroc Center.

Financial Assistance/Scholarship Program

Individuals, families, and seniors who cannot afford Kroc Center membership or fees for youth camps and/or group classes can apply for a discount. Eligibility for this program is based on income level, address verification within the Kroc Center’s service area and participation in case management services. Applications are available at any venue Customer Service Desk or the Family Resource Center and should be submitted at least six weeks prior to the start of the program requested. Additional information can be obtained by calling 619.269.1430.

Gift Cards Gift Cards are available to pay for memberships, class and program fees. Gift Cards can be purchased at the Gymnasium Customer Service Desk. Gift cards cannot be used for class materials, theatre & performance tickets or vendor events.

Group volunteer projects and community service opportunities for students and court-ordered individuals are also available. Volunteers must complete an application, provide references and submit to a criminal background check before beginning an assignment. Child safety training is required. There are limited assignments for teen volunteers (ages 16-18); a Parent Waiver Form is required for volunteers under the age of 18.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE The Salvation Army’s social ministries provide aid to those experiencing unexpected crisis. Assistance is based on predetermined guidelines and availability of services. Membership Payment Plans One-Time Annual Payment: Annual payments may be paid in full by cash, debit card, or major credit card. Fees are equivalent to 12 monthly payments. The annual fee and required registration fee are due at time of enrollment. “Pay As You Go” Monthly Payments Monthly membership dues can be paid via electronic funds transfer from a checking, savings, or credit card account. The dues for the first two months and the required registration fee are due at the time of enrollment. To complete the membership process, the Electronic Funds Agreement must be completed and a voided check or credit card authorization must be provided. Membership dues will be automatically transferred from the member’s bank account or credit card on the 10th of every month.

Membership Policies Cancellations Members must submit a written, dated, and signed request to cancel or change their membership by the 25th of the month in order for the cancellation or change to become effective for the following month (this includes new bank account information change requests). If a member cancels or if membership payments lapse for more than 30 days, the appropriate registration fee will be charged to reopen the membership account. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Dependent Adults Dependent adults ages 18-23 can be included in General and Value Family Memberships. In order to qualify, parent members must submit for verification a copy of their most recent Federal Tax Return proving dependent status of the dependent adult.

Insufficient Electronic Funds Transfer Policy There is a $20 charge for each insufficient electronic funds transfer (EFT) we receive. Memberships are deactivated until payment is received. Use of the Kroc Center is not permitted until payments are made current and all applicable fees are paid.

Dormant Membership (Monthly Payment Members Only) Members making monthly payments via EFT who cannot use their membership due to any nonmedical reasons (i.e. long vacations or out of town) may put their membership on dormant status for 2 - 6 months. Dormant status memberships are billed $10 per month instead of the full membership amount. Membership benefits are not active while a membership remains on dormant status.

Medical Hold (Annual Pay & Monthly Payment Members) Members who cannot use their membership due to medical reasons may put their membership on medical hold for up to 6 months. A doctor’s note must be submitted with a Membership Change Form to place a membership on medical hold. Monthly payment members will be drafted $1 per month while on medical hold. Annual pay members will not be charged a fee to place their membership on medical hold. Membership benefits are not active while a membership remains on medical hold.

Registration Fees Registration fees are used to provide major repairs and equipment replacement. This fee is payable when you join and is in addition to membership dues. There is no registration fee for youth memberships. The registration fee will be waived for all renewing members. Memberships that have expired or been cancelled for more than 30 days are subject to repayment of the registration fee to renew membership. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Note: Membership fees, benefits, and payment structure are subject to change without notice.

Field Trips Field trip packages are available Monday through Friday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Groups can experience the Ice Arena, Aquatic Center, Rock Climbing Wall, Gymnasium, Theatre and Skatepark, with single and multi-venue programs available. Ceramics for Adults Ages 18 and over This class is an introduction to ceramic materials and processes. Students will learn how to make figurative sculptures, molds, and work with a potter’s wheel. Students will also learn glazing techniques and how to fire clay items. Drawing for Children Ages 9 - 12 Students will learn to draw using observations and imagination, from structured doodles to simple perspective, from representation to abstraction. Graphic Design for Teens Ages 13 - 18 Students will learn the basics of Photoshop, a professional tool for image manipulation and graphic design. Paint Me a Poem Ages 8 - 12 Language and art are celebrated in this mixed-media workshop. Students read and write poetry, then create unique artworks inspired by the imagery in their poems. Art projects include mixed media collage, masks, book making, painting, photography, and more. Kroc Tots: A Year With Frog and Toad KIDS

Verge Theatre Company bridges the gap between junior and adult theatre. It provides an opportunity for adolescents, ages 13-22, to create, operate and produce theatre productions. It provides a challenging, welcoming and nonjudgmental atmosphere in which adolescents can: gain confidence performing, build relationships and learn the artistic as well as business aspects of performing arts.

Ages 5 - 10 Students will learn basic skills in acting, singing and dancing as well as character development and audition technique in this fun-filled class. Based on children’s stories written by Arnold Lobel, this classic tale is perfect for young actors to explore their creativity. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Ages 5 -13 years Kroc Adventures explores every venue of The Salvation Army Kroc Center Campus and offers a variety of ageappropriate recreation. Daily outings may include recreation field and gymnasium activities, swimming, traditional sports, arts & crafts, ice-skating, rock climbing, skateboarding, library, and computer lab. SPORTS & FITNESS

Campers enrolled in Sports Camps will spend three hours daily focusing on skills, practice and play of a particular sport. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring other activities at the Kroc Center, which may include: field games, arts & crafts, swimming, ice skating, and rock climbing.

Introduction to Ice Skating Ages 6 -13 Introduction to Ice Skating through fun and games. With two hours of skating each day and a 30-minute lesson, participants will learn foot glides, two-foot turns, forward crossovers, T-stops, lunges and more! Dress warmly; gloves or mittens are recommended. Offered: Spring Camp Session 1 (March 29 - April 2)

Sports Camp Ages 6 -13 Designed for the all-around athlete! Learn the fundamentals and develop basic skills in a different sport each day. Sessions will focus on introductory game play, with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. Sports may include: basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and football. Offered: Spring Camp Session 2 (April 5 - 9)

SPECIALTY CAMPS Campers enrolled in Specialty Camps will spend 3-5 hours per day experiencing the lessons and activities of their specialty. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring other activities at the Kroc Center, which may include: field games, swimming, ice skating, rock climbing, computers, and library.

Top Chef Ages 8 -13 Participants will open “Chez Kroc”, a mythical fine dining restaurant at the Kroc Center. Spend the week working on recipes, participating in challenges and developing our own restaurant. Campers will receive complete kitchen safety orientation by Kroc Center Food & Beverage personnel. Who will be crowned as the Kroc Center’s Top Chef? Parents can sample the masterpieces at a food-tasting event on Friday. Offered: Spring Session 1 (March 29 - April 2)

COUNSELOR TO CAMPER RATIOS

THE ARTS

Kroc Center Day Camp ensures sufficient staff-tocamper ratios as recommended by the American Camp Association and will not exceed 1:10. A minimum of two staff are always present, regardless of the number of campers. This will also be adhered to during irregular camp hours (Extended Care, movie time, and field trips).

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Our staff is as diverse as our campers. The majority of our staff is recruited from local colleges and universities. Most importantly, our staff is made up of people who love kids. They want to spend their time playing, teaching, and working with children. All Kroc Center Day Camp staff members are certified in basic First Aid & CPR and receive extensive training prior to the start of camp. You can be sure that we are hiring the best of the best.

In the event of inclement weather or irregular drop-off or pick-up, please consult the Gymnasium Customer Service Desk for Day Camp group locations.

EXTENDED CARE Additional supervision is offered FREE during Fall, Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Camps from 6:30 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Extended Care is available for an additional fee of $20 per child, per week during Summer Camp.

FEES There is a $25 non-refundable deposit charged for each week, a $10 non-refundable charge for each single-day session or field trip reserved. Balances are due in full seven days prior to the start of the session, the registration and deposit are forfeited. Enrollment may be reinstated based on space availability and will be subject to a late fee of $10.

DISCOUNTS Effective September 1, 2009, member discounts are not transferable to other family members. In order for a camper to receive a member discount, the child must be a youth or family member (in good standing) of the Kroc Center.

DAY CAMP

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES Drop-off and pick-up occur at the Recreation Field during regular times. Extended Care drop-off occurs in the Gymnasium Game Room from 6:30 - 7:45 a.m. Parents arriving after 9:00 a.m. for sign-in or prior to 3:30 p.m. for sign-out will report to the Camp Office and be instructed where to go to meet the camper’s group. Please leave enough time in consideration that you might need to pick your child up in the middle of an activity on the other end of the campus.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Regular Sign-in & Sign-out times: Morning Drop-Off: 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. Afternoon Pick-Up: 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. Campers must be signed in and out each day by an authorized adult in the presence of Kroc Center Staff. A valid form of identification must be shown when a child is signed out of Day Camp. Valid forms of identification include current California State Identification Card, State issued driver’s license, Military Identification card, or Passport.

SPORTS & FITNESS

All changes to the list of adults authorized to pick-up a child must be made on the Change of Authorization form by the parent who enrolled the child in camp. Please be prepared to show identification. Children must be 11 years or older to sign themselves out of camp. Parents wishing to give their children permission to do so may write the child’s name in the space provided on the waiver for authorized adults.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE/SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Families that cannot afford fees for day camp can apply for a discount. Eligibility for this program is based on income level, address verification within the Kroc Center’s service area and participation in case management services. Applications are available at any venue Customer Service Desk or Family Services and should be submitted by the deadlines listed below. INCLUSION The Kroc Center is committed to the inclusion of all children in our Day Camp Program. Parents of children with special needs should contact the Day Camp Manager at least two weeks prior to the desired session’s start date to determine whether the Kroc Center can provide appropriate accommodations and which camp(s) are best suited for him or her. Inclusion intake forms are available upon request or as a download on www.kroccenter.org.

LATE PICK-UP A $1/minute late fee is charged for each minute a child remains at camp past 6:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. during Summer sessions if the child is not enrolled in Extended Care). If the child is not picked up by 7:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. If the child is not enrolled in Extended Care during the Summer) and staff are unable to reach the parents, Child Protective Services will be contacted.

PARENT GUIDE TO CAMPER SUCCESS The Parent Guide to Camper Success provides information on camp policies & procedures. Parents are responsible for reading the Parent Guide and for reviewing camp policies with their child. Topics include signing in & out, behavior management, staffing, program contact information, and registration. Parents may receive advance copies of the guide during registration at the Gymnasium Customer Service Desk or on the first day of camp. COMMUNITY SERVICE

Registration can be completed on-site or by faxing the necessary registration forms. Registration must occur and all outstanding balances paid seven days prior to the camp start date in order to avoid a $10 late fee. Registration forms must be filled out completely; incomplete forms will not be processed.

Please include all pertinent medical information on the waiver, including prescription and nonprescription medications and allergies. If your child needs medications administered during the camp day, a medical information sheet must be completed. Medication(s) must be in their original prescription container with the child’s name printed on the label, and placed in a plastic bag. Medications are secured by our staff in the camp office. Parents can download the Medical Information Form from www.kroccenter.org or request a copy from the Day Camp Manager. Parents may sign the bottom of the Medical Information Sheet to authorize campers to carry and administer his/her medications needed for life-threatening conditions such as an epinephrine injector (Epi-Pen) and asthma inhalers. Prior approval is needed for other medications to be carried by campers.

GROUP SWIM LESSONS The Kroc Center offers group lessons for parents with infants and toddlers, youth lessons for children ages three to 16, adult lessons for ages 16 and over and private lessons for all ages. We follow the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program using certified Red Cross instructors. Children in group lessons are evaluated on the first day to ensure enrollment in proper level. Children under the age of four must wear swim diapers and plastic pants. We reserve the right to change the schedule and/or cancel lessons as needed.

PRESCHOOL & YOUTH LESSONS Waterbabies Ages 6 months - 3 years A swim class for infants and toddlers accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Infants can enter the program when they can hold up their own head (at least six months old is recommended). Through guided practice sessions, children learn skills such as water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, and underwater exploration. Children must wear swim diapers/plastic pants to enter pool.

Tiny Tots – Introduction to Water Skills Ages 3 - 5 Introduce inexperienced or fearful children to the water in a fun setting. Using toys and games, children learn basic water safety skills while gaining confidence in the water. Skills learned include putting face in water, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, front and back floating and kicking and jumping into the pool to the instructor. No parents allowed in lessons.

Level 6 - Swimming Proficiency Ages 6 and over Develop maximum efficiency and endurance for strokes. Introduce surface dives and flip turns. Approach and hurdle on diving board, tuck and pike surface dives, alternative kicks for treading water, throwing rescues, turning spinal victim face up and approach stroke.

Level 4 - Stroke Improvement Ages 5 and over Develop confidence, competency and strength in front and back crawl. Strokes learned include elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Skills learned include deep water bobbing, diving from side of pool in stride and standing positions, turns at the wall, and familiarity with CPR.

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement Ages 6 and over Refinement of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke. Alternate breathing, swimming underwater, butterfly, open turns on front and back, diving safety and beginning diving progression from springboard.

Adult - Introduction to Water Skills Ages 16 and over An introduction to water safety and beginning swimming skills for adults and adolescents. Basic instruction includes supported and unsupported floating, kicking on front & back, putting face in the water, breathing and basic paddle stroke.

Ai Chi (Flowing Aquatics Energy) Ages 16 and over Ai Chi marries the eastern art of Tai Chi with aquatic therapy. It promotes improvements in deep breathing, coordination, balance, flexibility, and muscle strength. Location: Therapy Pool

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise Ages 16 and over Classes include a series of pool activities led by certified Arthritis Foundation instructors. Participants are guided through a series of movements designed by exercise specialists, geared to reduce the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. With the aid of water’s buoyancy and resistance, participants improve flexibility, strength and range of motion. Swimming skills are not required. Location: Therapy Pool

Deep Water Workout Ages 16 and over Fast-paced, no-impact class designed to build cardiovascular strength while creating muscle tone. Participants must feel comfortable in deep water. Location: Competition Pool

Ages 16 and over Looking for an extra kick in your workout? Burn Out! is a full body workout utilizing resistance training with dumbbells and resistance bands with cardiovascular training involving kickboxing and endurance drills. A core and ab workout that shapes and sculpts the body unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before with partner drills to make it a fun but intense workout! Class limit: 20 students

DAY CAMP

Ages 6 - 13 Designed for the novice ice hockey player. Builds on fundamental hockey skills.

Adult Hockey Skating Class Ages 14 and over Designed to teach adults hockey skating fundamentals. Great for those aspiring to play ice hockey or looking for a new form of exercise.

Ages 6 - 13 Student MUST have completed Beginning Skate or equivalent class. Becoming a San Diego Saints Rookie means you are serious about learning to play hockey. Building on fundamental hockey skating skills, Rookies will learn how to play the game and participate in Skills Clinics alongside current Saints Youth Hockey Players. All current Rookies get unlimited FREE Public Skating. Equipment required: An HECC approved/certified hockey helmet with a full-face mask, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves, hockey shorts, and a stick. Ages 3 - 6 Introduce the fundamentals of ice skating to young children. Fee includes participation of both parent and child together.

Tiny Tots Ages 3 & 4 Introduces toddlers to ice skating through fun and games. Fall & get up, march in place, skate to other side, two foot jump in place, forward swizzles standing still, single swizzle, beginning two foot glide.

Ages 5 & 6 Skills taught: push and glide stroking, dip, forward swizzle, t-position and push, backward swizzle/wiggle, and two foot snowplow stop.

FIGURE SKATING CLASSES All classes listed are for participants ages 6 - 13.

Beginning Skate Introduces the young skater to ice skating: forward swizzle, skate to other side, beginning stroking, march with two foot glide, and dip.

Pre Alpha

Alpha Skills taught: forward stroking, forward crossovers (right over left and left over right), and one foot snowplow stop.

Delta Skills taught: right and left forward inside 3 turn, forward inside and outside edges, bunny hop, and shoot the duck or lunge.

Freestyle Levels 1 through 6 Freestyle skills taught include advanced forward stroking, forward outside/forward inside consecutive edges, scratch spin, waltz jump, and half flip, advanced back outside three turns, scratch spin from back crossovers, loop jump, flip jump, sit spin, and camel spin.

SKATEPARK Skatepark Schedule

Our indoor Skatepark contains elements that challenge both the beginning and advanced skate boarder. For maximum safety, kneepads, elbow pads, and a helmet are required for all skaters 17 years old and under. Helmets are required for skaters 18 years old and over; elbow pads and kneepads are recommended. A waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian is required prior to admission to the facility for participants under the age of 18.

The Salvation Army Kroc Center Skatepark Rules & Regulations The Skatepark is for skateboarding and rollerblading only. All other uses are prohibited. Sorry, no bikes or scooters. 1. All skaters must have a signed liability waiver on file. For skaters under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign waiver in person, or have waiver notarized. 2. Minimum age for skaters is six years old. All children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult (18 years & older) 3. All skaters must wear the appropriate safety gear, including: helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, shirt and appropriate shoes. In addition, wrist guards are strongly recommended. Failure to wear protective gear may result in loss of use privileges. 4. All skaters must skate safely at all times, and avoid collisions with others. Fighting or other aggressive, disruptive, or rude behavior will result in ejection from the Park. Ejected skaters must obtain Management approval prior to returning. 5. All equipment used by skaters must be in good condition, and must not damage the Park or its structures. 6. Spectators are not allowed in the skating areas. 7. All forms of graffiti, tagging or other means of defacing Center property is strictly prohibited. Such activity may result in closure of the facility until it can be cleaned and/ or repaired. Violators will be ejected and not permitted back without the approval of the Management. Payment of repair costs will be required to return. 8. No food, drinks, or glass containers allowed in skating areas. 9. No drugs, alcohol, weapons, or profanity allowed. 10. No loitering or skating outside the park, including sidewalks, parking lots, brickwork, planters, or other ornamental surfaces. 11. No items such as benches, tables, wood materials or other objects used as ramps or jumps are allowed in the Skatepark. 12. No modifications to the Skate Park are allowed. 13. The Skatepark will close if there are five skaters or less in the first 30 minutes of the final session of the day.
