PROGRAM & SCHOLARSHIP CAMPAIGN
CHANGING LIVES. BUILDING COMMUNITY. TOGETHER
Be a Hero We are thrilled to announce The Salvation Army Kroc Center’s 5th Annual HEROES Program and Scholarship Campaign, an effort that will bring a community of dedicated volunteers together to meet the goal of raising $80,000 to help more than 1,200 neighbors in need. Mrs. Kroc’s vision was to provide worldclass programs to children, adults and seniors in our service area, regardless of their financial circumstance. Mrs. Kroc’s generous endowment pays for 40% of the Kroc Center’s $9 million annual budget. Her vision was that the community would help generate the remaining $5 million needed to balance the budget each year through program service fees, membership dues, and donations to campaigns like this.
Each year the Kroc Center offers scholarships to nearly 2,000 people in our community, totaling nearly $300,000 in financial assistance. These scholarships allow children, families and seniors to participate in programs that encourage them to discover their talents, promote creativity, wellness, spiritual discovery and community engagement. In order to keep this program up and running we need the support of community members like you!

AT A GLANCE
THE CAUSE The program and scholarship fund allows children, families and seniors to participate in life-changing programs at The Salvation Army Kroc Center regardless of ability to pay. For many recipients, scholarships make a crucial difference in their lives by providing basic needs including: childcare during the Summer so single parents can work, exercise and wellness to the ill and injured, support and social engagement for the elderly and emergency food to the poor. Help us uplift our community by making a true difference in individuals’ lives.
CHANGING LIVES Maria is a single mother of an 8-year-old girl. She works a minimum wage job and only has enough money to pay for rent and food. Through the scholarship fund, her daughter has been able to participate in Day Camp during holiday breaks from school, providing child care so she can continue to work. “If my daughter didn’t have this scholarship, I wouldn’t be able to go to work, and we couldn’t survive.” “The Kroc Day Camp has helped her grow personally and emotionally, and it is helping her turn into a caring and responsible young lady.” Maria has referred at least five families to The Kroc Center with similar financial struggles and believes The Kroc Center is a blessing in her life that has given her daughter opportunities that she was unable to provide on her own.
THE SALVATION ARMY KROC CENTER’S PURPOSE In keeping with the mission and holistic approach of The Salvation Army, The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides opportunities that facilitate positive, life-changing experiences through: art, athletics, personal development, spiritual discovery and community service. “When I found out we got a Day Camp scholarship, I knew my son’s life would be changed. I knew his future was in much better shape.” -Day Camp Scholarship Recipient’s Mother
MAKING A DIFFERENCE The scholarship fund has made a true difference for single mother Ellen and her 8-year-old son Andrew who suffers from ADHD and has trouble making friends. Ellen’s financial struggles have made it difficult to provide basic needs for her son, and paying for social activities was simply not an option. A couple of years ago Ellen started to worry about Andrew’s future, as he had no one to play with and became isolated. “I was scared because I knew that Andrew needed something new in his life,” said Ellen. “I didn’t think I could get him involved in anything with the little money we have.” Ellen soon learned about The Salvation Army Kroc Center and its scholarship program through a family friend, and she signed up right away. She was accepted and signed Andrew up for several programs at the Kroc Center. Since then, Ellen has noticed a positive change in Andrew’s attitude – especially when she is picking him up from The Kroc Center. “Andrew is improving his physical health, and I think it’s helping him channel his energy so he is less angry and more relaxed.” “Andrew has become part of a community at the Kroc Center,” said Ellen. “It’s helped him so much.”
