Class Descriptions: Ice Skating

Kroc Center Ice offers ice skating, figure skating, and ice hockey skating classes for children and adults of all ability levels. Many classes are offered more than one day of the week, so learning to ice skate on a busy schedule is easy. Our curriculum is based on the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) “We Skate” program and is taught by professional ISI certified instructors. Each session consists of 8, 30-minute classes; one class each week. Class enrollment includes unlimited FREE Public Skating, FREE skate rental, progress report, and graduation certificate. Dress warmly; gloves or mittens are recommended.

ADULT SKATING CLASSES Classes listed are for participants ages 14 and over.

ADULT BEGINNING SKATE An introduction to the basic fundamentals of ice skating specifically tailored to the adult skater.

BEGINNING YOUTH SKATING CLASSES PARENT & ME Ages 3 - 6 Toddlers will learn with assistance and on-ice encouragement of a parent. This class introduces the basics of ice skating to young children through fun and games. Fee includes both parent and child.

TINY TOTS AGES Ages 3 & 4 For toddlers who no longer require parental assistance, this class introduces ice skating basics such as falling, getting up, marching, using fun and games designed by our instructors. Age appropriate, ice skating games keep toddlers involved but still learning.

KINDER Ages 5 & 6 Developed for kindergarteners, this class uses a fun approach to teaching skating fundamentals. Children master basics such as T Position and Push and Glide Stroking while also preparing for more involved maneuvers.

BEGINNING SKATE Ages 6 - 13 Introduces the young skater to the basics of ice skating. Skaters learn amongst their peers to become proficient in ice skating fundamentals, leaving this class with confidence, ready to move into either figure skating or hockey. This class fulfills the pre-requisite to move onto Pre Alpha or Hockey Skating.

HOME SCHOOL CLASSES Classes listed are for participants ages 6 – 13. Class curriculums developed specifically for charter school and home school students, based on the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) “We Skate” program and taught by professional ISI certified instructors.

HOME SCHOOL 1 A combination of Beginning Skate and Pre Alpha classes.

HOME SCHOOL 2 A combination of Alpha and Beta classes.

HOME SCHOOL 3 A combination of Gamma & Delta classes.

Class Descriptions: Ice Hockey As skating is the core skill in the sport of hockey, all new skaters are encouraged to first complete a beginning skate class. Upon successful completion of beginning skate class, youth participants will move progressively into Hockey and Rookies. Adult participants will progress Into Adult Hockey Skating Class. Each session consists of 8, 30-minute classes; one class each week (unless otherwise noted). Classes include unlimited FREE Public Skating, FREE skate rental, and progress report. Each class is taught by a trained and certified USA Hockey coach.

HOCKEY LEAGUES With two leagues and four divisions (noviceadvanced) adult hockey is available for almost anyone with some hockey experience. All games played under the auspices of USA Hockey Rules & Regulations. For days, times and fees visit www.kroccenter.org/ice-arena.

ADULT HOCKEY SKATING CLASS Ages 14+ Created to teach adults hockey skating fundamentals, this class is great for those aspiring to play ice hockey or looking for a new form of exercise.

ADULT ROOKIES HOCKEY Ages 6 - 13 For skaters serious about learning to play hockey. Building on fundamental hockey skating skills. Adult Rookies learn how to play the game. Required equipment: HECC approved/certified hockey helmet with a full-face mask, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves, hockey shorts, and a stick. Prerequisite: Completion of Adult hockey skating class.

Recreational in-house hockey played under the auspices of USA Hockey Rules & Regulations. Our mission is to assist in developing character through exposure to hockey. The Saints strive to create an experience for young athletes that will positively affect them well beyond their playing days by encouraging, developing, advancing and administering the sport in a responsible manner. ROOKIES 1 & 2 ICE HOCKEY DEVELOPMENTAL CLASSES Ages 6 - 13 For skaters serious about learning to play hockey. Building on fundamental hockey skating skills, Rookies learn how to play the game and participate in Skills Clinics alongside current San Diego Saints Youth InHouse players. All enrolled Rookies players receive FREE Public Skating sessions. Pre-requisite: Completion of Beginning Skate or equivalent class.

SAN DIEGO SAINTS YOUTH HOCKEY CLUB Competitive non-profit youth travel & tournament ice hockey club fielding teams ages 8 to 16 (Mite - Midget). Teams have the opportunity to compete at the highest level in the California Amateur Hockey Association under the auspices of USA Hockey.
