General Information

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

- Frederick Douglass

Dear Friends: The Salvation Army loves children and young people! We are devoted to their holistic development – spirit, soul and body – and believe in their unlimited potential. We are also aware children and young people are pliable, adaptive and resilient. Their character is indelibly formed by their home, school and community. They are a reflection of our highest hopes and, difficult to admit, often the victims of our greatest failures. When they hurt we surround them with love. When they triumph we celebrate with joy. The purpose of the Kroc Center’s Day Camp is to immerse our community’s children in an environment of love where they’re safe to explore their interests and talents, dreams and desires. We’re here to awaken our community’s young people - to show them the assets they possess to build a positive future. While we anticipate the leadership and direction they will provide to our world tomorrow, who they are today is our hope for the future. Thank you for entrusting your children to the Kroc Center Day Camp. We promise to encourage them today so they create a hope-filled tomorrow. Peace.

GENERAL INFORMATION

AMERICAN CAMP ASSOCIATION (ACA) ACCREDITATION We are extremely proud to be an ACA Accredited Camp. This means that children are spending their summer in a safe and fun environment, supervised by well-qualified counselors. We have undergone a thorough review of operations, staffing, programming and safety. The ACA is the recognized leader in organized camps. For more information about the ACA and what accreditation means to parents and the community, visit www.acacamps.org.

INCLUSION The Kroc Center is committed to the inclusion of all children in our Day Camp Program. Parents of children with special needs should contact the Day Camp Manager at least two weeks prior to the desired session’s start date to determine whether the Kroc Center can provide appropriate accommodations and which camp(s) are best suited for him or her. Inclusion intake forms are available upon request or as a download on www.kroccenter.org/day-camp. LUNCH PROGRAM Lunch and a snack are provided to each camper and are included in the camp fees. If a camper is a picky eater, has allergies or has dietary restrictions, we encourage parents to pack a lunch from home. Choosing not to use this benefit will not reduce the price of camp. Meals are prepared hot on the premises each day and provide one third of the USDA daily recommended nutrition. At least one vegetarian option is available each day.

NOTE: Campers staying for Extended Care are often hungry due to the amount of energy expended throughout the day. Please send camper with additional snacks if staying past 4:00pm

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING... This was our first experience with the Kroc Center and Day Camp! The summer was fantastic! My grandson was up and excited to go to camp each day! Thank you so much for the positive experience! He hopes to be back next year!

This is the best priced most diverse camp in San Diego. I’m really happy to have found you.

Katie loved swimming and ice skating. She also enjoyed going to the garden to pick the fresh vegetables.

This is my children’s first summer at Day Camp. As a child, I went to day camp and loved it. I’m glad I was able to give my children that same wonderful experience... Thank you for enabling me to give me children a wonderful summer experience at the Kroc Center.

Urban Rhythms! Fantastic, dynamic teacher and counselors. The final performance was amazing! We’ll be back next summer with both of our kids enrolled this time!! Swim camp was awesome too as the counselors were energetic and funny.

My daughter has done a lot of camps (at many facilities around San Diego) and she said that the ice skating camp was the best she’s ever been to. She will attend again next summer.

My kids felt super shy at the camps since they didn’t know anyone else in their camp. But the counselors made the kids feel very, very welcome.

Tyler attended most every camp this summer…We are very pleased with the camp and service that we have received. All of the counselors were very helpful and nice. Thanks for a great summer.

My daughter is still talking about the camp and can’t wait to go back.
