Langston Linguistics

Location: Langston Centre, 315 Elm St. Call: 423-434-5788 Date: Jan. 5-May 25, weekly Time: 3–6 p.m. Ages: Rising 3rd graders to rising 12th graders Cost: Free Students will learn basic conversational phrases, numbers, colors, and review the alphabet in Spanish, Russian, French, Japanese, Mandarin, and ASL (American Sign Language). Students will explore the cultures in which these languages originated and the geography of the countries, both historic and modern. We have partnered with the ETSU Foreign Languages Department to provide in-depth content for our students.

Game Theory & Chess Club

Biology Society

We will develop a garden of different plants (carnivorous, rare, global origins) and will make observations and lab reports regarding our findings. Students will learn about plants, how they function and the interactions of plants with the environment as a whole.

Authors’ Society

Engineering 101

Robotics Golden Tigers Team

Culinary Corridors

Nature Walk Series

Over the course of six weeks, we’ll cover stock market basics including terminology, indexes, options, ETFs, dividend investing, and more. We’ll also go over how to research stocks with technical and fundamental analysis. Most importantly, we’ll cover risk management and trading psychology for beginners.

The 5 Levels of Leadership Mastermind Group

Location: The Langston Centre, 315 Elm St. Call: 423-434-5785 Date: Every Tuesday, beginning Jan. 18 Time: 5-6 p.m. EST Ages: 18+ Cost: $10 Registration: Register by Tuesday, Jan. 4 in person at the Langston Centre. Instructor: Dave McAuley This group takes on the Mastermind Group format (interactive and discussion) based on the book entitled, The 5 Levels of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. Reading the book is recommended but not required. The facilitator will provide weekly handouts and discussion guides for the course. The 5 Levels of Leadership provides a pathway for growing as a leader and for being effective with each person you lead. The Mastermind format will tap into the various experiences and wisdom of each group participant to create discussions that will inspire and challenge every leader in the room.

Instructor: Kayla Sharpe Individuals learn how to identify warning signs, how to interrupt the crisis, and how to direct that person to proper care. QPR is a nationally used, evidenced based training that assists people in learning how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. QPR is designed to get people comfortable with directing loved ones to care if they have never been put in a position to do so.
