OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE pg. 10 The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offers an impressive selection of educational and social opportunities for adults age 50 and older. With a purpose to promote lifelong learning and continued intellectual and personal growth for retirement age individuals, OLLI has become the place for fun, interactive learning in a safe and encouraging environment.
Curriculum draws from the interests, talents, and experiences of older adult learners. Academic courses are college level (without the homework, term papers, and tests), and cover everything from personal computers to fitness for life and visual arts. Social activities include various gatherings for dinner, laughter, entertainment and travel.
SUMMER UNIVERSITY CAMPS Camps offered June and July The Summer University experience is an engaging combination of learning and fun. ARTS Oil Painting - Beginning to Intermediate $179 Herb Lambert | Sat 9AM - 12PM 04/10/2021 - 06/05/2021 Omit Date(s) 05/29/2021 The focus of this class is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to draw and paint a variety of subject matter from still life to portraits. Students will learn oil painting concepts and techniques that are relevant to every painting: composition, value, color, edges, light key, brush strokes, paint quality, shapes, massing, light/shadows, etc. Demonstrations and critiques will be presented, however each student will be mentored and taught at their current level of experience.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s have some fun!” Mr. Varner has studied with many of today’s portrait masters and uses his experience to enhance each student’s quest for personal expression. For beginning through intermediate skill levels, this class is designed to take the mystery out of painting portraits and

Since the ratification of the Constitution each president has personalized the office to his style and the nations needs. There have been dynamic presidents, accidental presidents and during the Gilded Age they were called the “Forgotten presidents.” This class will cover the establishment of the office and review the dynamics of the office and the interesting personalities that have occupied it.

Religion in the Civil War | $89 Michael Shaffer | Thu 6PM - 8PM 04/08/2021 - 04/29/2021 Separation among denominations served as a precursor to the secession of eleven Southern states. Fracture in the Methodist Church occurred first with that body dividing over the issue of slavery in 1845. Baptists formalized

a separate Sothern Baptist Convention. The Presbyterian Church formally split along the North-South lines in 1861. Despite the splintering of churches before the American Civil War, religion had a profound impact on leaders, officers and soldiers. During this course, we will explore a war where both sides prayed to the same God.
The Atlanta Campaign of 1864 | $79 Michael Shaffer | Mon 7PM - 9PM 05/03/2021 - 05/24/2021 During the early days of May 1864, the Federal armies of Major General William T. Sherman entered Georgia, and began moving toward Atlanta. General Joseph E. Johnston and the Army of Tennessee attempted to thwart their advance, and a campaign of maneuver resulted. This course will cover the military action, from the opening engagements near Tunnel Hill, to the September fall of Atlanta.

Was Custer a victim of circumstances, or was he just outclassed by
better Indian leaders, better tactics? Was Custer commanding a misfit outfit, the newly formed 7th U.S. Cavalry? All these questions and more are presented in this new course in American History of the West.
Liberation of the Camps: Accounts of American, British & Russian Soldiers | $99 Gerald Flinchum | Wed 1PM - 2:30PM 05/05/2021 - 06/23/2021 The course will cover the liberation of the many camps established by the German Nazi government during WWII by American, British and Russian soldiers. It will feature documentary interviews from USC’s Shoa Institute and Yad Vashem Museum in Israel. Material from library sources will be included with maps, period photographs and documents. The various camp systems will be discussed to include extermination, concentration camps, ghettos, and slave labor camps. Also included will be a tour of the KSU’s WWII and Holocaust Museum.

Basics of Amazon Selling | $119 James Daniel | Sat 9AM - 4PM 04/10/2021 - 04/10/2021 This course offers an introduction to Amazon and the selling opportunities available for thirdparty merchants. Students will learn how to set up a merchant’s account and identify which type is best for them. They will also learn how to list and price products on the Amazon platform. Class will cover how to use Amazon’s fulfillment service and why.
