I. DESIGN COMPETITION ARCHITECTURE DESIGN COMPETITION Mobile Cocoon From August 31, 2019 to November 20, 2019, Hanoi Architectural University in collaboration with Deakin University (Australia) is organizing a design competition called “Mobile Cocoon “. The competition is part of a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Hanoi Architectural University and Vietnamese Teachers’ Day on November 20, 2019. We are now facing complicated developments and unprecedented consequences caused by natural disasters. The aftermath resulting from climate change is increasingly severe. In response to and overcoming the consequences caused by natural disasters, it is urgent to support the affected by meeting their essential needs for food and accomodation as soon as possible. The idea of designing a minimum living space in the shortest and most effective time in order to help the community to cope with and overcome the consequences of natural disasters is a must. Particularly, the trend of designing mobile homes / Mobile Cocoon is now receiving a lot of interest from the community as well as professionals. The architecture design competition of mobile houses is open to all the students of Hanoi Architecture University so that they can contribute their ideas, show their creativity and capability, thereby seeking solutions to cater the real needs of the community.

II. Workshop: Hybrid Design Presenters Dr Chin Koi Khoo, (Digital Design) Lecturer in Architecture (Digital Design) Hybrid Design acknowledges the diversity of contemporary design and production technologies and considers the potential to generate new outcomes based on the integration of the physical and digital environment. These hybrid design strategies will have a significant effect on the way architecture is conceived, represented, explored, communicated and produced in the future. This workshop will encourage participants to explore the architectural design opportunity through the integration of digital/analogue design processes and virtual/physical representation. Participants will learn design knowledge and simple virtual and augmented reality using the Unity Engine and Augment software platforms. There are two activities in this workshop and the participant will select one or both activities. In the first activity, participants will explore the multisensory and temporal aspects of urban place with a sophisticated prototype VR application. Following this, participants will experience the augmented reality (AR) platform Augment to visualise a model through a tablet or smart phone to visualise the model within the physical environment.
