Never tell children a tale with a different end to the one you have always told them night after night. All of you, who have regularly put children to bed, know that when you have explained that same tale for a hundred times, if the brave newsagent always runs away with the Air France hostess, you cannot change that and tell them the brave newsagent is not running away with the Air France hostess, but with a stenotypist. They get cross: “No! That’s not the way! Tell it to me that way the newsagent is running away with the Air France hostess! I like indefinitely repeated sequences. That’s why I love Robert Coover and Maurice Ravel, and also Muixeranga music, Pierrick Sorin, and Ramon Enrich, that painter who has achieved a tidy and geometrical world, where nobody seems to live. Is there anybody out there? Maybe hidden? I don’t mind. Every new painting adds a new look to the usual nothing and allows me to glimpse some scenes taken from a tale book I translated nearly thirty years ago: “The Martian Chronicles”, by Ray Bradbury. When Bradbury wrote such a great epic, sitting in front of his typing machine, he sometimes looked away from his piece of paper to imagine Mars, the far planet -in fact, ours and the only one-, according to Enrich’s landscapes. And you’ll say: “No way! Bradbury did not know Enrich!” and also “Enrich was not even born!” Don’t fuck me. In Enrich’s paintings, I can see Bradbury walking through cypress trees and pyramids, ponds and silos and from time to time, he rests in the shade of water depots and homes with no windows, happy for all those changes in the world he imagines. Ramon Enrich is a usual artist in the Catalan scene. His work has been exhibited in many parts of the world. He works in architecture and in the relationship it has with the landscape with a highly schematic design where the economy of language contrasts with the poetry and monumental spaces. As in those great plays where the lies are light up to create a whole new spiritual dimension. Enrich faces very specific and full of memory colors where the contrasts between light and shadow provide a markedly Mediterranean iconography. His pictorial intention is comes from the daily story and moves it to another space dimension, where its treatment is basically emotional and dreamlike.
