Die Internationalen Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen betreiben neben dem Festival eines der angesehensten, umfangreichsten und ältesten Kurzfilmarchive der Welt. Die Sammlung umfasst heute knapp 1 900 Titel, darunter zahlreiche Unikate und Werke bedeutender Filmemacher wie Kenneth Anger, Santiago Álvarez, Maya Deren, Werner Herzog, Alexander Kluge, Jan Lenica, George Lucas, Matthias Müller, Roman Polanski, Alain Resnais oder Jan Švankmajer. In addition to putting on a festival, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen also operates one of the largest, oldest and most highly respected short film archives in the world. Today the collection encompasses nearly 1,900 titles, among them many unique prints and works by major filmmakers such as Kenneth Anger, Santiago Álvarez, Maya Deren, Werner Herzog, Alexander Kluge, Jan Lenica, George Lucas, Matthias Müller, Roman Polanski, Alain Resnais and Jan Švankmajer. Auf den folgenden Seiten möchten wir Ihnen unsere 47 Neuankäufe (S. 34 – 45) vorstellen. Aus den interessantesten Arbeiten des letzten Festivals haben wir vier Programme zusammengestellt (S. 12–25). On the following pages we would like to present to you our 47 new acquisitions (pages 34–45). The most interesting works from the last festival have been compiled into four ready-to-screen programmes (pages 12–25). Jedes Jahr konkurrieren etwa 60 Beiträge im ältesten Kurzfilmwettbewerb der Welt, ausgewählt aus knapp 5 000 Arbeiten. Dieses Auswahlprogramm des Internationalen Wettbewerbs 2013 mit vorwiegend experimentellen und dokumentarischen Videoarbeiten kreist um Fragen der Identität, indem es biografische Notizen in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Fast alle Arbeiten wurden mit wichtigen Preisen im Festival 2013 ausgezeichnet. Als Programm präsentiert es die Vielfalt und die visuelle Kraft der aktuellen Kurzfilmproduktion weltweit.
Every year, some 60 entries compete in the world’s oldest short film competition, selected from nearly 5,000 works. This programme of mainly experimental and documentary video productions from the International Competition 2013 revolves around issues of identity, focusing on biographical notes. Almost all works were awarded major prizes at Oberhausen in 2013. Together, they represent the diversity of current short film production worldwide and the visual impact it is capable of unfolding.

Fish Boy ist halb Fisch, halb Junge. Er lebt in einem scheinbar idyllischen Fischerdorf, wo sein Vater ihn zum Fischer ausbilden will. Die ihm im Dorf entgegengebrachte Ablehnung wirkt sich auch auf sein Verhältnis zu sich selbst aus. • Fish Boy is half boy, half fish. He lives in a seemingly idyllic fishing village where his father wants to teach him how to become a fisherman. The rejection he experiences in his village affects his relationship with himself.

Die hier ausgewählten Arbeiten aus dem Deutschen Wettbewerb 2013 jonglieren spielerisch mit dem Verhältnis zwischen Innen und Außen. Während Helena Wittmanns Kamera langsam Wohnräume durchmisst, verlassen ihre Protagonisten das Haus kaum mehr. Und die Dämonen lauern überall. So hat Bjørn Melhus Weltuntergangsprophezeiungen aus dem Netz gezogen und sich selbst wieder in den Mund gelegt. Xenia Lesniewski verteidigt ihre Privatsphäre gegen den internationalen Marken- und Zeichenterror, während Katre Haav augenzwinkernd andeutet, wie man die bösen Geister vielleicht außen vor hält.
These works selected from the 2013 German Competition juggle playfully with the relationship between interior and exterior. While Helena Wittmann’s camera slowly surveys living rooms, her protagonists hardly ever leave their home. And demons lurk everywhere. Bjørn Melhus for his part pulled prophecies of world doom off the internet and adopted them as his own. Xenia Lesniewski defends her privacy against the terrorism of international brands and signs, while Katre Haav suggests tongue-in-cheek how to keep evil spirits at bay.

Angesichts andauernden Wohnraummangels wurden 1971 in Kuba Selbstbau-Gruppen, die „Microbrigadas“, ins Leben gerufen. Architekturbilder, Archivmaterial und Interviews verbinden sich zu einer experimentellen Collage über dieses Phänomen einer revolutionären Moderne. • Given the persistent housing shortage, do-it-yourself construction groups, so-called “microbrigadas”, were set up in Cuba in 1971. Images of architecture, archival material, and interviews are combined into an experimental collage about this phenomenon of revolutionary modernism.

Das Programm präsentiert fünf Arbeiten, die sich im Spannungsfeld Film – Kunst bewegen. Es sind vor allem politisch-dokumentarische Arbeiten, die unter anderem aktuelle Fragen von Repräsentation und Transnationalität behandeln wie im Falle von Aykan Safoğlous "Kirik Beyaz Laleler". Das war der Jury 2013 den Großen Preis der Stadt Oberhausen wert. Insgesamt erlauben diese Filme einen Einblick in den aktuellen Stand medienkünstlerischen Schaffens.
Presented in this programme are five works caught up in dynamic tension between film and art. Dieses Auswahlprogramm versammelt einige der schönsten Kurzfilme, die im NRW-Wettbewerb des Festivals in den letzten Jahren gezeigt wurden. Der Blick auf die Welt in den vorwiegend dokumentarischen Arbeiten ist sehr persönlich und immer ungewöhnlich. Thematisch spannt das Programm einen weiten Bogen von der heutigen Arbeitswelt über Migration bis hin zu komplexen Familienverhältnissen. Im Kern lautet die Frage: was und wie erinnern wir eigentlich? Mit in der Auswahl sind auch die beiden Hauptpreisträger des Wettbewerbs 2013. Das Programm steht ausschließlich nicht-gewerblichen Spielstätten in NRW zur Verfügung.
This selection brings together some of the most wonderful short films shown in recent years in Oberhausen’s NRW Competition. The predominantly documentary works reveal ways of looking at the world that are very personal and always unusual. Thematically, the programme spans a broad range, from today’s working world, to migration, to complex family relationships. In essence, the question is: What do we actually remember, and how? Included in the line-up are the two prize winners from the 2013 competition. The programme is available exclusively to non-commercial venues in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Die Kurzfilmtage kaufen oder leihen Filme / Videos aus dem Festival für das von ihnen verwaltete Archiv der Stadt Oberhausen und haben für die Werke das Vorführrecht erworben. Die Werke müssen in sämtlichen mit ihrer Aufführung zusammenhängenden Publikationen unter dem Titel „Aus dem Archiv der Internationalen Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen“ oder mit dem „Archivfilm“-Signet angekündigt werden.
The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen acquires or rents films / videos shown at its festival for the archive of the City of Oberhausen, which it also manages. The Festival has obtained rights for public screening of these titles. All public announcements of any form and in any format in connection with the public screening of these films / videos must be made under the title “From the Archive of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen”, or include our “Archivfilm” logo.

Filme aus dem Archiv (bis 2008) mit Aufschlag von 50%.
Archive films (up to 2008) will be charged at an extra 50%.
Die Verleihbedingungen im Detail erhält die Spielstelle mit dem Verleihvertrag und auf Anfrage vorab.
The detailed conditions will be given to the screening venue with the contract or upon request.
Leiht der gleiche Vertragspartner innerhalb des Verleihjahres (Sept. 2013–Aug. 2014) mehrfach aus, kann er von Rabatten profitieren. Einzelfilme werden bei jedem weiteren Ausleihvorgang jeweils 10 Euro, Programme jeweils 20 Euro günstiger. Maximal drei Rabatte pro Jahr sind möglich.
Discounts are available for those who rent films more than once during the same distribution year (Sept. 2013–Aug. 2014). A 10-euro discount will be given on individual films for each further transaction, and a 20euro discount for programmes. A maximum of three discounts is possible per year.
