NEO NOAH’S ARK FIRST SEMESTER 2011

Self Defense Building from Natural Disaster

ANALYSIS Prologue

Site

Problem Natural disaster ! Earthquake t The primary damage - Flood t Secondary damage - Loss of lives t Tertiary damage - Economy

Architecture ! B a s e t No soild foundation work from earthquake t There has been no solution to bulid an

architecture by earthquake.

Site ! Concerned area from disaster The area is worried by natural disaster like earthquake or flood.

O Earthquake Q In 21century, Modern sociaty has been procceeding a huge economic, social and technological growth. Even though growing technology, there is still an issue that we have to think, how to protect us from natural disaster.

Expected Effect

Background Even though developing various technology, architectures that should protect people’s lives fell to threaten our lives, because of architects’s selfishness of materialism. When earthquake come to the architecture that wasn’t built solid enough, the force affect buildings to damage is on the land, not on water. We need a solution from natural disaster immediatly. 16

l

We sould realize safety precautions against natural disaster besides the primary damage,

[ Secondary and tertiary are necessary ]

Defence system + Complex cultural facilities

Acceptance of multipupose contents

THEME [ Secondary and tertiary are necessary ]

Third Maternity Protection The fetuses are covered by a thin membrane that is called aminion. There is water in the aminion that a fetuse is grown in. While a fetus is developing, the ridges along these patterns are influenced by a number of factors, including bone growth, pressures within the womb and contact with amniotic fluid. The amniotic fluid absorb shock a fetuse from external impact, and it protect from microbism. It helps to adjust fetuse’s temperature as well.

[Processes define the function] Primary Belly Pregnant’s active way to protect

Active protection

Secondary Amniotic fluid Pregnant’s floating way to protect

Floating protection

Tertiary Umbilical cord Pregnant’s comunication with a fetuse

Communicational protection

SELF ACCEPTION It accepts shaking of primary earthquake actively, not exclusively. So it is in harmony with nature, and it takes flexible defensive condition for secondary flooding. Therefore, it can be motion architecture. And it also communicates with human by exterior and interior, so the exterior is in harmony with the interior. And it became new concept of Neo Noah’s Ark. l

17

DESIGN CONCEPT Design Process

Starting Point

The process of cracking = Dynamic

EARTHQUAKE The process of accumulation = Uniformly

CRACK Design Process

Earthquake is shaking of the ground caused by movement of the earth’s crust. The gap which is after land cracked is covered with something different component. Therefore, crack is connecting link between these two unlike component things. As the crack became a frame, and imprint the frame on circle shaped thing. It shows a pile of dynamic crack, so it generates a new form of design.

Uniformly makes dynamic shape by cracking accumultaion.

Shape The cracking shape chop at circle.

EPILOGUE Self Defense Structure + Eco Complex According to Neo Noah’s Ark, the architecture accept natural advantage, and defend against disaster. Through the re-establishment that is the realationship of human and nature disasters. There is no more exclusive attitude for disaster, we should aceept the nature, and expect the world in harmony between Nature and Human.

BIKE STATION SECOND SEMESTER 2011

New Concept of Bike Convenience Center

BACKGROUND

Urban Transportation Problem Environmental problems are caused by car is in serious condition. And the cars which use of alternative energy are being developed to solve the underlying problem. But it is not enough yet. In addition, the lack of space is serious problem. Seoul has been being concerned of increased densely populated, and it makes huge traffic jam. Bicycle was the best transportation until the early 1970s. It has a big merit that it doesn’t make environmental pollution. The bike is being receiving attention to be the future transport.

The Mayor of Seoul have made a lot effort people to use bicycle for transportation or sport. However, people still don’t use bicycle. As you see the diagram, bicycle is 2.2%. It is still so low, we can compare with other countries that there are 6~7%. We need to realize the present to solove this problem, and make the plan for awareness of bike culture.

The reasons that Seoul citizens do bicycling are activities and transportation. The reasons that not do bicycling is inconvenient and dangerous. However, they are very positive to use activation of bicycle.

“Suggestion for Revitalization of Riding a Bicycle New Concept Bike Station For revitalization of riding a bicycle, I suggest a new concept building for bicycle riders. By creating bike convenience building, people can use bicycle more safely, more conveniently. And it would make vitalization of using bicycle. So I suggest new concept of bike station for emerging bicycle culture in our lives. People will consume, spend time, and communicate with other riders. I suggest the interior space for riders to enjoy riding regardless of seasons and climate. The building need to be in the middle of the city, so anybody can join.

TITLE Have conversation with The Gallery Of Modern Art. Show intention of artists with the gallery, and make visitors communicate with the gallery. Therefore visitors communicate with artists.

MOTIVE As artworks make harmony in a gallery, I redesign the interior by simple shapes which make harmony with each floor.

CONCEPT Communication The concentration in this Gallery is Communion between Visitors and the gallery, the gallery and Artists, and Visitors and Artists. This communication is from when visitors enter this place. The point is what visitors feel with the gallery, and how they make their own journey in this gallery.
