ED’S LETTER EOA

IMAGE: KWENTA MEDIA.

ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER s it true that the heart grows fonder when your loved ones aren’t always around? We all have those hectic, emotional days at work when we look forward to seeing our loved ones, knowing that we can pour our heart out to them without fear of judgement. What do you do when you want to cuddle up on the couch, watch Netflix and chill, or when you feel like putting on your LBD for a night out on the town together with your man? Do your feelings really become stronger if the object of your affection is not around every day, or do you feel resentment building up inside you as you turn the light off on yet another night alone? On the flip side, a little bit of distance can give each of you the space to grow individually and as a couple, and you learn to really appreciate one another when you do get to spend time together. Those hugs, kisses and cuddles become more precious and you make the time to listen more intently to one another.

EOA_Ed's Letter.indd 7

On page 60 we explore the logistics of long-distance relationships and see if they can be maintained, both financially and emotionally. Yes, it can be costly but sometimes the cost is worth the effort – especially in the long term. Talk continuously while apart and make specific plans for those moments when you do spend together; plan a romantic picnic in the garden or a movie marathon in bed. Most importantly, don’t forget to always express your feelings. Tell your partner when you feel happy or sad, emotional or frustrated. Remind them of how much you love them and appreciate the sacrifices they are making in the relationship. Just because they are not around, it doesn’t mean you can’t keep the romance alive. Trust me, it will be worth it.
