2023 Trinity Hill Hawke’s Bay
Come visit the ‘sunny Hawke’s Bay’ – that’s the call from Tourism Hawke’s Bay as we return to the region to support the community for our 8th annual Trinity Hill Hawke’s Bay Golf Classic.
The tournament is set in one of New Zealand’s premier and oldest wine growing regions. Hawke’s Bay wineries are famous for their reds – Merlot and Syrah, and their whites – Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Napier is also uniquely known as New Zealand’s Art Deco Capital with its own Festival in February each year.
For 2023 our tournament format has changed to accommodate the loss of the Napier Golf Course which was badly damaged in the floods but will hopefully return to its full glory next year.
In 2023 the Trinity Hill Hawke’s Bay Golf Classic will be a 54-hole Gross, Nett and Stableford competition. The tournament package includes three rounds of awesome golf playing Cape Kidnappers in carts (#21 in Top 100 World Rankings in 2022) along with Hastings and Maraenui Golf Clubs.
We start our Hawke’s Bay Golf Classic week on Sunday 1st October with registration and wine tastings at the Trinity Hill Winery. Each player receives a tournament gift. For the tournament week, the three rounds of golf are played over three days Monday to Wednesday, then you can relax, and enjoy the
sights around the region for the remainder of the week.
The tournament package has some great features. Your round at Hastings Golf Club on Monday comes complete with a Trinity Hill wine and food matching lunch. Your Cape Kidnappers golf experience includes lunch with a glass of Trinity Hill wine to enjoy after your round. And the team at Maraenui have a BBQ breakfast on offer!
For the draw at Cape Kidnappers, we welcome requests to play in groups with partners and friends making the day a very special one. On the final night we celebrate with a Prize Giving Dinner with Trinity Hill Wines. All these features are included in the one tournament price.
The tournament has a comprehensive prize table with prizes across several divisions. Limited to the first 120 golfers entered, the tournament is open to men and women golfers, ages 20+, maximum handicap limits of 36.0 for men and 40.4 for women apply.

The Courses
Cape Kidnappers is perched high atop a windswept plateau 500ft above the sea. American architect Tom Doak in 2004, cleverly designed the course along a series of ridges perpendicular with the coastline, with most ridges framed by deep canyons.
An aerial view reveals a series of ‘farm land’ fingers reaching out into the Pacific Ocean giving the course its ranking among the world’s most precarious places to play the game.
A round at Cape Kidnappers is not for vertigo sufferers – six of its holes are along the edge of a 183m sheer drop into the sea. “Steel yourself in particular for the 15th signature hole, known as the Pirate’s Plank.”
Hastings is one of New Zealand’s bestknown club courses, host of many amateur events over the years and proudly the home of arguably New Zealand’s best amateur players, Stuart Jones.
In addition to a raft of club and district titles, Jones won a staggering seven national amateur championships. He represented New Zealand from 1953 to 1975, playing in seven Eisenhower Trophy events. His most notable achievements came when he won two professional events and the 1967 Canadian Amateur Championship. Although Jones passed away aged 87 in 2012, his legend continues.
Hastings Golf Club is an outstanding course, well known for its quality of greens and beautiful grassed fairways.
54-Hole Classic
Maraenui Golf Club
Maraenui Golf Club lies on the coast road between the two cities of Napier and Hastings.
In addition to a quality 18-hole layout, the club also manages an adjacent 9-hole challenge for beginners and social players.
Boasting itself as one of the ‘friendliest’ clubs, Maraenui has a tight tree lined challenge that demands accuracy, especially off the tee.
Like Hastings and Napier, Maraenui is also an easy walking course with sea breezes often coming into play.
