CHAIRMAN’S OVERVIEW & WELCOME Carl Fenton Chairman, NZGIC

As chairman, I am delighted to host the inaugural New Zealand Golf Industry Council (NZGIC), Whole of Golf Conference. The purpose of the New Zealand Golf Industry Council is to unify all golf sectors throughout the country to achieve the goal of growing our sport. Our industry is one to be proud of. I truly believe it enriches the lives of those involved and by growing golf, we grow the positive impact we have on New Zealand and its people. With that in mind, the Conference theme ‘Moving Golf Forward’ is an exciting opportunity for speakers and workshops to take an eye to the future and shape the landscape of golf in New Zealand. This conference is a landmark occasion, the first of its kind in New Zealand. It will provide opportunities to learn from international and New Zealand industry experts, explore the latest innovations in each sector of golf and, importantly, learn from each other. Thank you for the tireless work of all sectors in golf, we are sure you will find this conference energising, informative and rewarding.

We are bringing ‘everyone’ together for a demanding, informative, thought provoking three days – the whole industry in one location – a world first we believe! Three key speakers have been confirmed. We are delighted to announce Tom Doak, a world renown golf architect, is committed to the conference; his presentation will be one of the highlights for all sectors and delegates. Doak’s work is well known in New Zealand from his masterpieces at Cape Kidnappers and Tara Iti. Growing golf tourism with new and exciting destinations such as Russia, Azerbaijan – to name but two, will be discussed by Peter Walton, CEO of the world golf travel organisation, IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators. The conference has also secured the involvement of Jonathan Smith. Jonathan led the environmental team at Scottish Golf before founding the Golf Environment Organization (GEO) in 2006 with the mission of helping golf succeed through sustainability.
