Fairmont Banff Springs

YOU’LL PLAY SOME OF THE WORLD’S MOST SCENIC COURSES. EVEN THE AMAZING PICTURES CAN’T DO IT JUSTICE – SO JOIN US ON TOUR FOR THE COMPLETE EXPERIENCE! All our Canadian Rockies Golf Tours sell out very quickly – so check out the golf courses and be sure to book your place on the 2019 Canadian Rockies Golf Tour! Top of the pops is the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course set in the heart of Canada’s Rocky Mountains. Renowned for its panoramic beauty, this captivating Alberta golf course with its challenging layout is always a tour favourite. Canada’s master golf course architect Stanley Thompson designed the original 18 holes in 1928, and his course winds along the Bow River under the snow-capped peaks of Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle. An adjoining nine holes, designed by Cornish and Robinson, www.parnz.co.nz

Kananaskis were constructed in 1989 so there are now 27 holes of championship golf to enjoy. Back in the 2019 Canadian lineup is the revamped Kananaskis Golf Courses, at the base of the Canadian Rockies. Originally a Robert Trent-Jones II masterpiece, 36 holes in the Kananaskis Valley, offering the Mt Kidd course and the Mt Lorette courses. One of TrentJones claims on this course, is that every tee shot has a different view 8

of a Rockies peak. And we think he nailed it! Originally opened in 1983, the course reopened last year, 2017 after devastating floods in 2013 took out many holes. Many old holes still exist but a new layout with Kan-Alta Golf Management and Golf Course architect Gary Browning working together to evaluate the damage done to both courses, creating a new layout and presentation while preserving where possible, old holes and the mountain golf experience.

Chateau Whistler The images show the result – PaR nz Golfing Holidays are delighted to have this magnificent course back in our Canadian Rockies itinerary. One of our tour favourites for both the stay and the play is Predator Ridge Golf Resort, a 36-hole golf resort community in the Okanagan Valley outside Vernon. Opened in 1991, Predator Ridge originally consisted of 27-holes designed by Les Furber. The three nine-hole courses – The Osprey and The Red Tail built in 1991 and The

Peregrine built in 2000 – are named for birds of prey found in the area. To expand the resort into a 36-hole golf facility, talented Canadian architect Doug Carrick was hired to build nine new holes as well as to renovate the original nine-hole Peregrine course. This new 18-hole golf course was renamed The Predator Course. Carrick opened another 18hole course, named The Ridge Course, which SCOREgolf voted the best new golf course in Canada in 2010. www.parnz.co.nz

Whistler Green Lake

Greywolf Whistler presents four great golf challenges, and we’ll play three of them on our tour, including the famous Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jnr. Carved into the slopes of the Coast Mountain range of British Columbia, with Blackcomb and Whistler mountains as a backdrop, this magnificent course incorporates creeks, ponds, ancient stands of Douglas fir trees and massive 10

granite rocks. The course elevation changes by more than 130 metres overall, presenting an impressive golf opportunity and an exceptional experience of natural scenery and wildlife. Mountain golf can be challenging and dynamic – and Greywolf is a perfect example of this. Another award-winning course designed by Doug Carrick, Greywolf at Panorama Mountain Village features 18 unique

and interesting holes that will sear themselves into your memory. One of golf’s true must-plays, Greywolf’s signature hole ‘Cliffhanger’ has an island green perched above the aptly named Hopeful Canyon with cliffs below the front left and back. Our Canadian Rockies Golf Tour takes in courses from two of the alltime greats, Jack Nicklaus and the late Arnold Palmer. Nicklaus North, designed by ‘The Golden Bear’ Nicklaus, is a par 71, 18-hole course that winds along a gentle valley floor. Your golfing skills will be tested to the full in a spectacular setting. Winner of numerous awards since it opened in 1996, Nicklaus North has played host to the Skins Game, the Shell’s Wonderful World

of Golf, and other prestigious tournaments. Some of golf’s biggest names have played here – Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Stephen Ames and, of course, the mighty Jack Nicklaus himself. We also welcome our golfers to Arnold Palmer’s first Canadian design, Whistler Golf Club, home to a truly ‘Whistler’ brand of golf. While visiting golfers to this region quickly come to expect grand views of snow-capped-mountains, signature designs and uncompromising course conditions, this course’s friendly and relaxed ambience contributes to its popularity. The 2019 tour includes Copper Point Golf Club, which is promoted as a www.parnz.co.nz

Predator Ridge natural, lay-of-the-land route with numerous ‘classic’ elements such as roughly-hewn bunkers and clever use of natural hills and ravines. There are stunning views of the Columbia Valley from the deck. You will also see the work of acclaimed golf architect Bill Robinson, whose Eagle Ranch makes the most 14

of natural contours, varied terrain and 360-degree views to create a uniquely challenging golf experience. An example is the 16th hole, which is a 160-yard par 3 featuring a sandstoneshielded green lying about 25 metres below the elevated tee. Our tour ends at Mayfair Lakes in Richmond – a genuine golf sanctuary

Vancouver that offers year-round golf in a secluded, countryside setting beneath the beautiful North Shore Mountains and just minutes from Vancouver. With a flat layout, the abundance of lakes and waterways that come into play on 13 of its 18 holes add challenge and visual appeal. The 11 courses included in our

highly-rated Canadian Rockies Tour represent some of Canada’s finest championships fairways – and they are all yours to explore.
