Horsens Art Museum

If you want to let art under your skin, a visit to this impressive art museum is an absolute must.

Largest and most well-known on the Horsens art scene is the Horsens Art Museum which, for more than 100 years, has let the public enjoy an impressive, rich and varied selection of modern Danish art in an atmospheric building with a fantastic inflow of light. Beautifully located in the city park of Caroline Amalie Lund, the brilliantly white museum sits atop the hill of the park with its simple design and "white cube" architecture which easily matches international standards.

Today, an entire room is dedicated to the works of the local-born painter Michael Kvium, who has a whole wing dedicated to his work. The large collection is continually rotated, so that you always have a new experience when visiting the museum. Kvium has attained global recognition with his distinctive, engaging, and characteristic style, as well as much debate.

Some of the museum’s permanent collections include Erik A. Frandsen, Christian Lemmerz, Nina StenKnudsen, Cathrine Raben Davidsen, Frederik Næblerød and Klara Lilja. In 2022, experience the exciting new exhibitions by contemporary artists such as such as the Russian twins Maria & Natalia Petschatnikov, Anne Marie Ploug, Frederik Næblerød and the American artist Nick Theobald in dialogue with the now deceased Emil Westman Hertz.

Also, pop into the museum shop which has an exciting selection of clothes, books, posters, games, crafts, and other fine items that are perfect as a holiday souvenir.

Café focusing on sustainability

In the museum café, Café E, you are guaranteed a tasty experience. In addition, you can enjoy the views of the beautiful chestnut trees of the Caroline Amalie Lund as well as several of the permanent art installations and sculptures in the museum park.
