Since2023,AhmedhasbeenworkingonMoiiCoffee, a startup thatconnectscoffeeroasterswithcoffeeproducersandfarmers. “There are a lotofintermediariesbetweenthose two,” Ahmed says. “So we’rekindof[bridging]that gap.”
Ahmedoriginallystartedsharinghis love for coffeeas a passion project.“In2022, I startedworkingoutof my dormroomas a roasting company,”Ahmed says. “I was roastingcoffeebeans from Ethiopiaand sellingthemonline.”
Afterspeakingwithroastersandseeingthechallengestheyfaced insourcingtheirbeans,Ahmeddecidedtochangeandexpandthe business.MoiiCoffeeis now strictly a softwareconnectingproducers toindependentroasters.Irakoze, a softwareengineer,officiallyjoined AhmedinthepursuitlastOctober.“[Ahmed] was tellingme … how difficultitis for roasterstoconnecttoproducersdirectly,”Irakoze says. “Hewantedtobuild a platform,and I was like,‘Youknowwhat?Let’s doit.’”
“We liketothinkofitasanInstacart for thecoffeeindustry,”Ahmed says. “There are peopleselling, there are peoplebuying, but we makethe logisticsandthedeliveryhappen.”
Roasters from all over theU.S. are currentlyusingtheplatform: “We have buyersinquite a few differentstatesontheWestCoastandEast Coast,”Ahmed says. “We have someinAlabama,Arkansas, andthen a lot

EvenwithMoii’scurrentmomentum, thecoffeemarketitselfpresents challenges.“Thecoffeeindustryisactuallysupersaturated,”Ahmed says. “So you really have tostandout, right?Because you could get Ethiopian coffee from 20differentroastersinonesmallcity.”
Theduobelievesthatauthenticityhasbeenthe key totheirsuccess. Ahmed says: “I was prettyopen. Washington University physicians and professors Dr. Terry Myckatyn and Dr. Marissa Tenenbaum helm this year’s winning practice, bringing more than a collective 50 years of experience.
Among its many offered surgical procedures are breast surgeries, both cosmetic and reconstructive; body contouring such as tummy tucks and liposuction; and face procedures including facelifts and rhinoplasties. Services provided are truly comprehensive. In addition to routine exams and cleanings, the practice offers a range of cosmetic services such as whitening, Invisalign and veneers; restorative procedures including fillings, crowns, bridges and implants; treatment for TMJ, snoring and sleep apnea; as well as sedation dentistry, which offers a solution for patients who experience anxiety during dental procedures.
