Zero tolerance for this Easter, warns General The Easter weekend will be painful for the criminals in and around Tzaneen and a peaceful one for the citizens of Tzaneen. So says Genl Maggie Mathebula, the officer commanding the Tzaneen Police Sector. According to Mathebula a command was issued by Limpopo’s Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Simon Mpembe, to ensure a zero tolerance towards criminals during Easter. “We are going to make it hard for the criminals to commit any form of crime,” Mathebula said. In the past few months Tzaneen’s crime rate has been high, especially when it comes to housebreaking in certain sectors of the community. Lt Col Shikwambana, the spokesperson for the Tzaneen Police station, added that from today (Thursday) there will be regular roadblocks on major roads around Tzaneen. The police will patrol to ensure that people obey the laws and they will have stop and search operations to arrest those with drugs. “We are going to tighten the belt in Bolubedu-South to arrest those who are drinking and driving,” he warned. — Martina Jege

Dispute gets ugly Traffic island on the R71

The peculiar “decision” to erect a traffic island on the R1 right in front of the Sasol filling station took a new turn this week, when

Is it Yes or No?

a contractor started to mark out the island on Monday morning — while the construction team stood waiting in the wings.

However, when the owners of he filling station threatened to get an urgent court interdict, the work was stopped. • See page 3

We intended wishing you a whale of a time over the long weekend, but then the elephant in this unique series of photos made us think twice about the saying! The photos were taken in Mocambique and sent to us by Johan & Annatjie Swanepoel (johanletaba@gmail.com). We thank them for sharing this with our readers. The people from the Valley of the Eliphant (the Mopani District) have a special bond with these gentle giants of the Bushveld. Eliphants are good swimmers, but it is rare to see an eliphant swimming in the sea — and doing so quite far into the ocean, behind the breakers! Be this as it may, we still hope you will enjoy a whale of a time this weekend.
