Driver dies in accident -P9

A most unusual occurrence was photographed by Alex van Heerden, son of Mr Guy and Ms Nina van Heerden of Tzaneen, on the Tzaneen Dam recently. A flock of Lesser Flamingoes accompanied by a lone seagull made their appearance. They only rested for a few hours and then went on their way again. Where to we wouldn’t know, but we gladly wish them Bon Voyage, thanks for the visit and please do call again. BELOW: Another two perspectives on the new lifestyle centre to be built next to the R71 and the MediClinic, opposite the Sasol filling station. Work on the piles for the foundations will start soon and the first phase of about 9 000 square meter is planned to be ready for occupation by end of October. The anchor shops will be finalised soon, but it is understood that PicknPay wil be one of them. An upmarket Fruit&Veg is also expected to be one of the tenants.

Robert Miller pleads guilty -P3

Robert Miller, previously an established and well-known attorney practising in Tzaneen, pleaded guilty to theft in the Tzaneen Regional Court on Wednesday. He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment of which three years were suspended. According to his attorney, Mr Jan Tromp of Tzaneen, Miller had previously conducted a successful legal practice in Tzaneen. He became involved, however, in a number of business ventures, including a large shopping mall development and petrol station complex, which caused him to incur much debt.

Over time this led to his disbarring as an attorney as he used his clients’ trust monies to keep his law practice afloat, intending to repay such monies when he could do so. He could never repay the monies and criminal charges were laid against him for theft. Miller recently voluntarily returned to South Africa in order to face arrest and the criminal charges against him. He elected not to apply for bail and to plead guilty to all charges against him and to serve his sentence.

Mr N C Malumbete presided, Adv W van Zyl appeared for the State and Tromp appeared for Miller.
