Nightmare experience at new mall
Wall caves in
“There was a strange noise, it felt as if the earth was shaking and then part of the garden disappeared. I ran to get away from it.” This is how a gardener working for well-known Tzaneen businessman Mr Manny de Gouveia experienced Saturday’s landslide that took part of his garden down a seven meter wall. De Gouveia is now deeply worried about his property, since the gaping hole is less than three meters from his house. “Fortunately it happened now, beLEFT: The portion of the fore the start of the rainy seawall that caved in took son. Something needs to be part of Mr Manny de done urgently, to retain the Gouveia’s garden and the corner of his house area and avoid further landis less than three me- slides and possible injury to ters away. He says his people,” De Gouveia said. nights have suddenly become nightmarish, since he doesn’t know what to expect next.
However, he is not very optimistic about the situation being sorted out in a satisfactory way soon. The works engineer of Vlaming Construction , Mr Rob Hare, could not be reached for comment before our deadline and Mr Flip van Rooyen, the contractor who is doing the ground works, couldn’t be reached either. Neither could we speak to Mr Jannie Swart, the GTM’s building inspector, who was notified of the problem. He was “out in the field”, according to the GTM’s switchboard operator. We tried his cell phone, but he did not take calls at the time. In the mean time there seem to be another problem, since the permission to destroy the wetland is under dispute from certain parties. It is obviously too late now, since the wetland has been destroyed.

GELUK MET 96 GOUE JARE!
Simon is beter
This photo clearly shows that part of the neighbour’s garden is now on a lower level...
Sy sê Simon se herstel is ‘n wonderwerk.
Tannie Zelda Venter van Tzaneen word Sondag 96. Lees op bl 4 wat sy oor haar lewe en hoë jare te sê het.
