Prok skok

So meen regslui oor Roets se onlangse mislukte borgtogaansoek.

Dawie Botha Straatsmouse weg? Jy speel seker!

Tourists overlook rural tourism destinations

Tourism is one of the biggest job creators in the world, and toruism was recognised by the G20 as a driver of economic growth at the G20 summit in Mexico in June. However, local tourism businesses are said to be finding it hard to break into the tourism market, in order to create sustainable jobs. “Most tourists driving through the scenic landscapes of Limpopo are either on their way to the Kruger National Park or one of the surrounding private game lodges, which never lose their appeal,” says Claire Allison. She is the marketing coordinator of Open Africa, a non-profit organisation that helps rural tourism busi-

nesses in Limpopo. Bertha Baloyi of the Greater Giyani Jewellery Project in Giyani used to employ 39 beaders in her beads making project, and now employs only eleven. Most of her staff left for greener pastures, as they were not generating enough income. “We make beautiful things but we need to connect to a market,” she said. “Our staff members are trained for up to five years in various traditional Shangaan beading techniques, but without a market we cannot survive.” Richard Mabunda the project manager of Thomo Heritage Park, suffers the same fate, despite his project being an Iron Age site and a living museum where guests sleep in traditional Tsonga huts, dine on traditional dishes and enjoy the culture and history in the park. “We get visitors from as far as China, Holland, and the USA,” explained Mabunda. “But sometimes we go up to three months without a single visitor… in most cases we just make do with the little that we get, hoping that the market will improve in time,” he said. Through the sponsorship from Western Union, Open Africa is running skills de-

velopment workshops in rural tourism businesses along the western border of KNP in order to mentor, support, and protects the splendours of rural Africa by teaching locals how to market their rich heritage. According to Allison, Open Africa creates a network of travel routes. These routes link the small rural businesses in such a way that they are able to share the tourism traffic. “We enable communities in rural and marginalised areas to operate off the beaten track travel routes around their travel attractions through a network of local tourismbased enterprises. Each route becomes an economic platform for local businesses,” explained Allison. The organisation’s CEO, Noel de Villiers, believes helping these local tourism owners to master the art of trade was more important to the survival of their businesses. “Trade is the essential element of human advancement, cooperation, collaboration, discovery, and prosperity. Trading is what makes entrepreneurs, drives the wheels of society, creates jobs and gives people a purpose in life,” he said. — Orlando Chauke orlando@bulletin.us.com

Only 4 weeks to enter Relay! Time is running out to enter and plan for the Cansa Relay for Life Tzaneen, on 9-10 November at Ben Vorster High School. This will be Tzaneen’s third Relay and the focus is on celebrating more birthdays. The aim of the Relay for Life is to raise awareness of cancer and cancer survivors as well as raise money for cancer research. Participants circle a track for twelve hours in a relay-style walk, to symbolise the ongoing struggle of cancer survivors. Teams of ten can enter, bring their tents, mattresses and chairs and come join in the fun. The SA National Blood Service will be

there, along with the Cansa Shaveathon team and Spur’s face painting booth. To keep participants awake and active there will be a skateboard ramp and a volleyball court. A new addition is the Purple Couch, a seating area where participants can sit and tell the video camera why they like the Relay. There will be a variety of laps to keep participants on their toes like a pyjama lap, a camping equipment lap, a dance lap, a train lap and a YMCA lap. Something (is) Fishy (here) Melomo (lips), Mogodu (tripe), braaimeat/wors, pap and gravy and beef stew. These traditional African dishes are now being sold at Something Fishy in Tzaneen (a household name in mainly fish and chicken take-away food). The Bulletin spotted new signage popping up around the building recently. A “new menu” — as it is called — is advertised on the gates and walls of the premises, although it is not advertised on the actual franchise menu provided. We decided to dig beyond the surface and contacted the owner of the branch, Mr Peet Bezuidenhout. On the question if the branch is allowed to sell any other foods than specified on the menu, Bezuidenhout merely said that he had gotten permission from the franchisor to sell these additional meals. According to him, business was going extra slow, hence their decision to sell “other foods”. We contacted Ms Michelle Arundel, the HR and administrative officer, at Something Fishy’s head office in Johannesburg and according to her, a Something Fishy branch is not allowed to sell anything else than what is on the menu. “They should stick to the menu”. She then continued saying that the selling of pap is, how-

ever, in the pipeline. Bezuidenhout stepped into defence by explaining that one would find different foods sold at other branches as well. “In Pretoria one would find them selling pap for example”. But Mr Carlos Carrell, the manager of Something Fishy in Pretoria North, told us that they (“the branch in Pretoria”) only sell what is displayed on the menu. He added that selling anything else is not allowed and that it makes the franchise look bad. The national franchise development executive of Something Fishy, Mr Herman van Zyl, was unsettled when the Bulletin broke the news to him that the branch in Tzaneen is selling these “other” foods. He said that he would be visiting the branch in Tzaneen very soon, to sort out the dilemma. He assured us that this is not allowed and that the matter would be attended to and resolved immediately. Van Zyl also said that he would first have to establish who at head office (that Bezuidenhout referred to) gave Bezuiddenhout permission to sell the traditional foods.

We need the lighter moments as well... Julius Malema recently stated: “I want the people of South Africa

to treat me the same way they treated Nelson Mandela.” Evita Bezuidenhout immediately responded: “What a great idea. Let’s start with 27 years in jail…”

Spend, Get and Collect with Boxer Boxer has launched their new customer loyalty programme and it sounds quite amazing. It’s the first of its kind within their market and one that will keep people shopping with them. When you shop at any Boxer Superstore or Boxer Supercity you could be rewarded with Free Anchor Hocking glass Bakeware. The new loyalty programme will reward long-term customer shopping behaviours through offering additional value.

Boxer have designed a step by step Stamp Collector Booklet which can be found in-store. It has all the necessary details that will help customers understand getting and collecting in order to be rewarded. Simply put: Boxer shoppers can win a variety of Anchor Hocking bakeware by doing their normal everyday shopping. For every R50 spent, shoppers will receive one stamp which will need to be stuck in numerical order in a Stamp Collector card (within

the booklet). Customers will be able to collect stamps up until 31 December, redeeming their stamps up until 14 January 2013. They will be able to win six different types of Anchor Hocking Bakeware. “Being able to reward our shoppers who now are able to benefit even more over and above the low prices that they are paying within our stores, makes this promotion even more rewarding,” said Andrew Mills, Marketing Director of Boxer Superstores.

A texting driver

“Distressed” writes by e-mail: I travelled on the Transnet Bus 5554P from Johannesburg ostensibly to Tzaneen (9 am) (the Tzaneen bus was cancelled and we were accommodated on the Phalaborwa bus) leaving at 9.30 am on 3rd October. No on ticket JPD787. The driver was a competent driver but as soon as the bus reached cruising speed (looked like about just over 1200 RPM) a loud hooter bleeped intermittently. The irritating noise was very annoying for the passengers. The driver appeared oblivious to the noise in spite of me asking him to switch it off. He cruised at 1300 to 1500 RPM on the down hills. He spoke several times on his cell phone and I wondered why the bus did not have a hands-free kit. He then started texting from his cell phone sending and receiving text messages. This is against the law. About half way to Polokwane he commenced texting with a second cell phone. He also fiddled with it changing the battery etc. He continued to do this until we approached Polokwane all the while, whilst the hooter was bleeping. I sat in the second seat so had a good view of what he was doing. I took a photo with my cell phone and then a couple of good shots showing him slightly crouched over the steering wheel with the two cell phones sticking up proudly. This was while the beeper was sounding all the time. The only

Letters • Briewe time it did not sound was when he slowed down or when going up the hills. There was no steward or co-driver that I was aware of on this bus. At Polokwane he announced that the bus was overheating and that we had to change to another bus for Tzaneen and Phalaborwa. No wonder the engine was overheating. I made a few phone calls with my cell phone to revise my ETA. There was the usual scuffle in retrieving our luggage and transferring it to the replacement bus. Why the Transnet personnel could not do this, I don’t know. This experience is especially bad when you are eighty six years of age. I immediately noticed the theft of my cell phone when I took my seat on the replacement bus. The photographs of the evidence that I wanted to accompany this letter are thus lost forever. I thought that the public should know about this.

ANC and the SABC Raymond Hlungwani writes per e-mail (hlungwanir@yahoo.com): Reports today that the SABC struck a deal to buy a 1000 copies of the ANC-aligned New Age newspaper every day, despite concerns from

staff that the broadcaster was spending a fortune on newspapers that were not being read, coupled with the fact that it gave the newspaper free exposure worth millions on Morning Live, is more evidence that political interference has been built into the SABC system and ruthlessly exploited by the ANC-alliance. It is again abundantly clear that the SABC is not an independent public broadcaster, but a state broadcaster that panders to the ruling party. The IFP also remains concerned with reports that continue to resurface that rules were bent to appoint the allegedly politically-connected Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng as Chief Operating Officer, under irregular circumstances. One wonders how the SABC can legitimately claim that it trying to turn around the fortunes of the ailing, cash-strapped broadcaster, when it dishes out R3-million in sponsorship to a now discredited ICT Indaba willy-nilly, while losing R438-million through fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

This is the platform where service delivery, or any issue relating all sectors of the municipal functions are discussed. The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is presently in the planning phase and must be concluded at the end of 2012, for implementation only in 2013 as instructed by the MEC for Local Government. Another issue of utmost importance is the Indigent Register that must be compiled in each ward. It concerns all individuals who receive a monthly income of R1200 or less. Only persons registered as indigents at the municipality will they qualify for 6 Kilolitre free water and 50 Kw/h free electricity. There are pilot projects pertaining the hawker problem, and this remains one of the main problems in Ward 15. The main issue is the increasing of the water purification system, as well as sewage plants to allow any further development in Tzaneen town. The municipal swimming pool will also be restored, mainly because some children drowned in rural areas, and there was an outcry from rural parents to take their children for swimming lessons. Any resident is most welcome to contact me at 079 872 5012 if there are any requests or inputs. Thank you for your support and the positive input and keeping every one alert of their actions in Tzaneen.

AgriSA will have to look at losses due to the strikes Where market forces cause food prices to move upwards, producers are usually targeted for criticism, with periodic calls by trade unions for price control and, specifically, price ceilings. So says AgriSA’s president, Mr Johannes Möller. “If strikes have the same effect as now seems to be a reality in the transport sector, then it is apparently acceptable because a certain grouping is supposedly exercising its democratic right,” Möller warned. According to him, democracy becomes even more distorted when it is violently forced upon non-participating parties, as seems to be the case in reported incidents occurring in agriculture. According to reports received from the Underberg, farmers’ trucks passing a sugar mill have been shot at. Farmers have now stopped delivering sugar cane because strikes are preventing access to the mill. Reports from the Vaal triangle indicate that striking truck drivers have also targeted vegetable farmers’ trucks, preventing them from de-

livering their products to fresh produce markets. Möller pointed out that the perishable nature of vegetable and fruit lends a totally different dimension to transport strikes. “Not only does it impact on essential daily provision of products to consumers but, unlike non-perishable products, involves direct losses — fresh produce can only be kept in cool chambers for a limited period of time. To the extent that produce cannot reach the cold chambers or points of sale, this will not only impact negatively on the financial position of producers, employees on farms and rural economies, but also on urban consumers who will have to pay higher prices due to the shortages” says Möller. “Needless to add, foreign buyers, especially of fresh produce, will not tolerate poorer quality or inadequate provision as a result

of local strikes, especially those that impact on harbour facilities,” says Möller. He says depreciation in the exchange rate as a result of this state of affairs can only benefit exports if delivery remains timeous and the quality of products does not deteriorate. Warning signals relating to the exportation of fynbos, stone fruit and pears have already been brought to Agri SA’s attention. AgriSA is aware of the debate around liability for damages emanating from strikes which are taking place in various areas at present. According to Möller, organised agriculture will also have to consider the recoverability of loss of income and costs in this regard. “It cannot simply be written off for the account of a democratic right,” says Möller. Möller also urged farmers to immediately report all incidents of intimidation or crime committed by strikers to their nearest police station and to provide full particulars where possible.

Best disease barrier is soap & water — but SA lags behind Sixty percent of all South Africans do not wash their hands with soap and water. This compares poorly to other countries, even India. Life Health Care SA released the disturbing statistic shortly ahead of the UN’s fifth Global Hand Washing Day on Monday. The campaign was started to get school children from seventy countries to wash their hands as a key way to prevent the spread of disease. Soap acts as a ‘vaccine’ against a wide range of diseases and neglecting to wash your hands — especially after having gone to the toilet — is tempting fate. A single gram of human faeces can contain ten million viruses and one million bacteria. Faeces is the main source of diarrhoeal pathogens, and poor hand washing practices may lead to diseases like typhoid, cholera and the more common gastro-enteric infections. Research shows that children in households exposed to regular hand washing promotion had half the diarrheal rates of children not exposed to hand washing practices. Washing your hands with soap and water and cleaning household surfaces with disinfectant can also reduce the risk of respiratory infections by as much as 70%. Joining the campaign for improved hand washing, South African hygiene expert Initial says this simple act will reduce infectious diseases

by a meaningful percentage, as 80% of these diseases are spread through touch. By teaching children to wash their hands with soap and water, South Africans will help to reduce communicable diseases like childhood pneumonia, colds and flu. Nearly 60% of childhood deaths are caused by infectious diseases, says the World Health Organisation. As hospitals and places like doctors’ waiting rooms have a natural concentration of organisms due to the presence of patients with various diseases, proper hand washing in these healthcare facilities should be a high priority to reduce transmission of infectious agents, adds a Lifecare spokesperson. “And with SA’s poor ranking in hand hygiene, this may cause concern for health practitioners across the country,” observes Rentokil Initial’s communications manager Nathalie Leblond. Adopting good hand hygiene practices remains the easiest and most effective approach to combat a wide range of diseases that still trouble the world. To get all South Africans to wash their hands with soap and water should be a national priority.

• The Rentokil Initial group specialise in pest control and hygiene services for businesses across the globe. Using leading-edge, environmentally-friendly technology, their experts deliver a wide range of tailored services to businesses of all kinds.

“Enough of the speeches…”

— Chief tells government

Hosi Mahumani of Nkomo village, Giyani, “reminded” the government to fulfil all promises made to him and his people, saying “there were many speeches made without any action”. Speaking during the celebration of Mahumani Day the hosi said he had heard enough of promises made by the government and emphasised that he was looking forward to seeing action before the end of this year. “The time of speeches has passed, now it’s time to implement in the interest of the people that are burning in the sun, those that are unemployed and going through hardship,” he said. The promises include the upgrading of the village’s heritage site, called Baleni, and the area where Mahumani Day is celebrated every year. Mahumani said the matter needs to be resolved at once and without further discussion. “I will no longer tell you about Baleni’s problem because you know it already. If you browse for Baleni heritage site on the internet, you’d find speeches that are so powerful and dynamic, yet they are still to be imple-

“Just do it!” Despite the crisis in the education system in Limpopo and South Africa as a whole, Marumofase Primary School in Lenyenye is breaking new ground. The school has captured the attention of the officials in the education department as well as the community as a whole. This is all thanks to the determination and resourcefulness of the principal, Mr George Ramodike. He started with the Hosi Mahumani (Aaron Mahumani), speaking school under a tree in during the celebration of Mahumani Day. 1986 as the only qualified teacher, with 109 pupils in Gr 1 to Gr 4. After a donation of planks they moved into shanty classrooms. However, the wooden structures collapsed after some time. The Tzaneen Rotary Club came to their help and donated three old buses that were used as class-

rooms in 1989. It wasn’t until 1990 when the McLean Trust donated three classrooms, built by the then Lebowa education department, that Marumofase had their first proper classrooms. Today Marumofase has fourteen classrooms, a science laboratory, library, computer lab (for ten pupils at a time), a resource centre with stoves, a fridge, microwave oven, and washing machine. The school now has 519 pupils (47 with serious learning barriers), and sixteen teachers. Minister for cooperative governance and traditional affairs Richard Baloyi said the government was aware that the community had a heritage site that needed some development. “Hosi Mahumani talked about the development of this area on several occasions. It is also a time when people are focussed on their final exams or are hard at work to ensure they end their year with success, so little time is available for much else. However, SANBS is hopeful that donors who are due to donate, as well as those who meet the minimum requirements, are able to find the time to make a difference to the lives of others and donate blood. “We are grateful to the many, who always heed to our appeal for blood, but often crises are inevitable if donors are not available to donate.” says Vanessa Raju, Communications Manager at SANBS. “These crises often occur due to fewer Group O blood collections. Group O blood is known as the universal donor and can be given to patients of any other blood group, making it the most sought-after blood type.” added Raju. So, please help SANBS avoid potential blood shortages over the next few months, and be a “hero” to those in need. To become a blood donor, you need to: • Be between the ages of 16 & 65 • Weigh more than 50 kg • Be in good health • Consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient • Lead a sexually safe lifestyle

The mighty Ranger’s equal has landed The latest Mazda BT-50 bakkie has arrived in South Africa. “The all-new Mazda BT-50 is designed to appeal to customers who have an active and demanding lifestyle whether at work or at play,” says Doreen Mashinini, Mazda Marketing Manager. “The revolutionary new design combined with increased interior space, longer wheelbase and greater power ensures all the comfort of a passenger car, with the versatility of a pick-up truck.” The all-new Mazda BT-50 combines strong style and design elements with the comfort and convenience of a premium passenger car. As an active lifestyle vehicle, the all-new BT50 provides both comfort and utility in a variety of settings. Three body types are available: the double cab, the single cab, and the freestyle cab to suit individual, family or business needs. All body types are greater in length, width and height than the previous BT-50, providing a roomier cabin to carry colleagues, friends and family, as well as a larger load capacity. Front headroom as well as shoulder room is even more spacious

in the all-new BT-50. The double cab’s rear passengers enjoy similar conveniences with regard to headroom and legroom. Seats are newly-designed for fatigue-free driving and comfort, with the front seats offering greater adjustability. For entertainment, all freestyle cabs (except the 2.2 MZ-CD SLX High Ride 4x2 5 MT Diesel) and double cab derivatives have a radio, MP3-compatible CD player and AUX socket as standard. A Multi Function Display - 3.5-inch monochrome super-twisted nematic (STN) display for SLE models, 2-line display for SLX models (except the 2.2 MZ-CD SLX High Ride 4x2 5 MT Diesel) - is located at the top of the centre stack to confirm audio operations. Control is via a jog pad surrounded by dedicated buttons. High-performance, sixinch door-mounted speakers are tuned for accurate sound staging. For assured comfort, there’s a newly-adopted dual-zone automatic air conditioning system. The all-new engine line-up consists of 2.2and 3.2-litre diesel derivatives, and a 2.5-litre petrol derivative, mated to five- and six speed manual transmissions and a sixspeed automatic

transmission. All 4WD models feature a shift-on-the-fly transfer case. The in-line four-cylinder 16-valve MZ-CD 2.2 common-rail direct-injection power plant is the mainstay of the engine line-up, and is offered in two power versions. The 88 kW version delivers 3700 rpm and maximum torque of 285 Nm, while the 110 kW version delivers 3700 rpm and maximum torque of 375 Nm. The MZ-CD 3.2 achieves 147kW at 3000 rpm and 470 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm. These diesel engines (except the 88 kW MZCD 2.2) are married to either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions. The MZI 2.5 inline 4-cylinder DOHC petrol engine features a power output of 122 kW and has peak torque of 225 Nm. This engine and the 88 kW MZ-CD 2.2 diesel derivatives are paired with a new five-speed manual transmission. The Mazda BT-50 incorporates all the safety features you would expect in a fully-loaded passenger vehicle. Active safety begins with good all-round visibility and operability, superior braking performance, and a full range of vehicle control technologies. Passive safety starts with the strength and rigidi-

ty of the cabin, with its multiple, high-tensile steel reinforcements. The frame is optimised to absorb and disperse collision energy. Together, cabin and frame safeguard occupants against impacts from any direction. Passive safety inside the cabin includes front and passenger airbags on all models. There is also a shock-absorbing steering column and crushable brake pedal to further protect the driver. “Whether it’s intended for recreational or business use, the new package offers increased space and versatility with even greater levels of refinement. The revolutionary new styling is sure to attract attention, while the impressive levels of comfort and specification make the Mazda BT-50 a savvy choice,” adds Mashinini The Mazda BT-50 has service intervals stationed 15 000 km apart, a four-year or 120 000 km comprehensive manufacturer warranty, as well as a five-year or 90 000 km service plan. A three-year MazdaMotion roadside assistance plan comes standard with the purchase of any Mazda vehicle. Prices range between R190 330 for the 2.5 MZI SL LR 5MT 4x2 S/Cab petrol and R462 210 for the 3.2 MZ-CD SLE 6AT 4x4 D/Cab diesel.

The Future

Driving with your mind RIKEN BSI-TOYOTA Collaboration Center; Director: Yasuo KUNIYOSHI (Ph.D.)

Research Areas The Center was born on the basis of long, productive dialogues between Brain Research Institute, RIKEN and Toyota Motor Company to challenge the huge possibility opened by the integration of brain science and engineering. The two organizations, RIKEN and Toyota, embody totally different objectives, senses of values, histories, cultures and management customs, and have contributed the society in different ways. It is expected to give a great impact to Japanese science community if the collaboration will establish a powerful deep liaison between these two organizations, through which a new scheme of collaborations is created.

The BTCC is composed of three research domains: 1) neuro-driving, 2) neuro-robotics, 3) health protection. The nine collaboration units are formed to carry out the R&D in these domains, which are listed below. The BTCC has a branch in Nagoya, in addition to the headquarter inside the RIKEN main campus at Wako. Each collaboration unit includes adjunct researchers from Toyota in order to smooth transfer of technology established in BTCC. http://www.riken.jp/engn/r-world/research/lab/nokagaku/toyota/index.html

Support Unicorn’s golf Kurisa Moya is Tzaneen Eco Club’s day for good cause next adventure for avid birders Unicorn Preparatory School invites you to promote your business at one of the Lowveld’s most popular annual golf days at the Tzaneen Country Club on Saturday 20 October. Unicorn’s golf day regularly attracts around 140 players from local companies. It is an individual Stableford competition. Despite the field of 140 players, the event is characterised by friendly Lowveld hospitality from the hosts and a festive, family atmosphere. We are looking for sponsors to assist in any one of a few ways. Sponsor a hole, including tee-box and green, from R1 000. Sponsor the clubhouse for R5 000. Enter a golf team for R1 600. Sponsor prizes or give donations. Any other sponsorship of your choice is also welcome. Whichever option you choose,

you have the opportunity to gain exposure for your company and make business contacts in a warm, relaxed setting. You are welcome to display banners, branded items, brochures and any other items needed to promote your business. If you are interested in participating, please send an email, including the relevant contact details, to lml.lombard@gmail.com, or contact your designated Unicorn Golf Committee member, or call Machél Lombard on 082 355 1517. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information. To find out more about the golf course, visit their website at www.tzaneencountryclub. co.za. The Tzaneen Eco Club will visit the very special Kurisa Moya tomorrow. The day will start early for the serious birders, with a bird walk led by legendary resident bird guide David Letsoalo. They will meet at the Kurisa Moya Reception at 05:30 and walk for two hours. Group numbers are limited, and the bird walk is therefore open to Club members only. There is a cost of R50 per person to contribute towards David’s fee and a donation to Kurisa Moya. There will then be a general interest ramble through the indigenous forest at 08:30. This will be open to all and will be led by Mike Amm who is always happy to share his vast knowledge of our beautiful flora. They will also be accompanied by entomologist and lepidopterist Frank Honiball who will give some insight into the fascinating world of insects, and identify some of the colourful butterflies and dragonflies. Trio represent Tzaneen well on the Castrol Magnatrek After a week of fun, thrills and tough competition, the Tzaneen trio of Rudi Viljoen, his son Ruan and his daughter Rowena did not quite beat off the competition for the R100 000 grand prize on this year’s Castrol Magnatrek, but they had the week of a lifetime. The Castrol Magnatrek, hosted in partnership with Jacaranda FM, is an annual five-day trek that pits teams head-to-head in some intense mental and physical challenges. This year was a special Family Edition, meaning family members combined forces to make their strongest possible trio. For the Viljoen family, who operate a family business, it was an amazing experience. “Spending time with our family and getting to know each other even better was the most rewarding part of the trek! “Even if we didn’t win the R100 000, this week was worth the R100 000 grand prize alone!” says Rudi. Castrol has run the Castrol Magnatrek since 2006 and it raises awareness about engine care in South Africa. Few people know that up to 75% of engine

wear occurs while an engine warms up as most engine oils sink to the sump. Many people also don’t know what the right oil choice is for their car. With Castrol Magnatec, the product behind the Castrol Magnatrek, the Intelligent Molecules cling to the engine, even when it is off, always protecting and dramatically reducing engine wear during this critical period.

Mental Toughness – part 2 There are two forms of motivation which guide us at setting goals and completing them efficiently. Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from inside an individual, rather than from any external or outside rewards, such as money, etc. The motivation comes from the pleasure one gets from the task itself or from the sense of satisfaction in completing or even working on a task. Intrinsic motivation does not mean, however, that a person will not seek rewards. It just means that such external rewards are not enough to keep a person mo-

tivated. Extrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from outside an individual. The motivating factors are external, or outside rewards such as money or grades. These rewards provide satisfaction and pleasure that the task itself may not provide. Both forms of motivation are necessary, but vary from individual to individual. To really accomplish your fitness goals you need to know which form of motivation really will keep you going. Jean Aucamp jean@bulletin.us.com

Unicorns treated at Loftus A team of eleven Grade 2 pupils from Unicorn Preparatory School in Tzaneen was selected to play Tag Rugby at a regional schools tournament at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria last week. The tournament took place two days ahead of the Springboks and Australia’s clash in the Rugby Championship Tournament and the Tag Rugby final was played as a curtain raiser in the stadium ahead of the big game. The Unicorn team, performing extremely well, lost out on a spot in the finals in the semi-final round. All of the participating schools were treated to a visit to and coaching clinic by some of the Australian players. The Unicorn team was also invited into the stadium to support the final Tag Rugby game, meet the Springbok mascot Bokkie and then stay on to watch the Spingboks play.
