The hawker fraternity in Tzaneen boasts with a new member in their midst. He (or she) sells hawker licences at R250 a piece and supplies an official municipal document with it. This was revealed by DA councillor René Pohl, based on information gathered by a member of her ward committee during investigations into the hawker issue. According to Pohl only 42 licences were issued at R40 per month to legal street hawkers recently, but suddenly all hawkers have proof from the municipality. She suspects a stack of documents and an official stamp ended up in the wrong hands. This “entrepreneur” must have scored considerably in the process. She said the new controlled entrance to the municipal offices was installed after a burglary some months ago. After the breakin all municipal officials and ward councilors were called in to have their fingerprints taken. She suspects that the documents involved in the Hawkergate matter could have been part of the spoils in the burglary.

In the meantime, the DA continues its hawker investigation and is taking the matter to the next Council meeting. “We realize that the majority of Tzaneen’s street hawkers have no other means of income, but illegal trading cannot be tolerated.” A spokesperson for the GTM, Mr Neville Ndlala, said they are not aware of illegal hawkers. “Frequent visits are done to the allocated trading spots and hawkers without licences are fined. Goods are confiscated in the case of illegal hawkers occupying sections not allocated for street vending. “All legal hawkers have municipal accounts for the payment of licence fees. Several hawkers operate on private premises such as taxi ranks and are not complicit to municipal trade licences,” Ndlala said. “A new by-law on hawkers is being compiled and will help to control the hawker industry in Tzaneen in the future.” — Louis Roux louis@bulletin.us.com

Any woman who loves God is an inspiration to me. Qualities that make a woman exceptional are humility, respect, love and fairness to mankind. I think it is good to celebrate Women’s Day because it celebrates the empowerment of women.

Winnie Madikizela Mandela inspires me because she proved that women have the capacity and capability to lead. An exceptional woman knows her strengths and weaknesses. She has passion, purpose and perseverance.

My inspirasie is ‘n vrou wat nie skroom om haar beginsels uit te leef nie. Uitstaande vroue gee sonder om rekord te hou. Vroue het nie ‘n dag nodig om hul selfwaarde te vestig nie, maar Vrouedag maak mense bewus dat baie vroue geen erkenning geniet nie.

An exceptional woman is unselfish, works towards a goal, assists other women to make a self-sustaining life for themselves and their families. I think it’s great to celebrate women but it’s become an occasion to honour businesswomen with government tenders. It is unfair; hard work makes you successful.

I don’t have anyone specific that inspires me, but I admire exceptional women. To me, an exceptional woman is someone who is totally independent and manages to live a balanced life. I personally do not care about Women’s Day.

My daughter is inspiring as she always supports me, a single mother and policewoman. My understanding is that an exceptional woman loves herself and is honest and open. Women’s Day celebrates women who are the world’s mentors, guardians, teachers by nature and lovers.

I’m inspired by the everyday mother who gets up in the morning and goes to work for her children and single mothers who work hard but still manage to smile. Celebrating Women’s Day is worthwhile as women are the pillars of society.

I am inspired by women who make a positive change wherever they are. An exceptional woman is willing to give without expecting anything in return. On Women’s Day we should reflect on the many milestones achieved by ordinary women throughout history.

No mercy for women abusers — warns Premier New Limpopo premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha (photo below) called for law enforcers to ensure that anyone convicted of rape should serve full sentences without parole even being considered. Speaking during Women’s Day celebrations near Makhado he said “the wheel of justice would be rolling in a wrong direction if it fails to punish those responsible for gender based violence. “Our justice system must never forgive perpetrators of violence against women,” he said. “The recent decision to reopen the special courts mandated to deal with sexual offences should be celebrated as a victory in the fight against gender based violence,” he said.

“Justice against perpetrators of sexual offences is one of the most important methods of restoring the dignity of victims and survivors.” The premier commended the rising number of women in commercial farming, and said government would continue to support them. He urged the private sector to promote competent women into higher positions, saying that “transformation in the private sector will not be enough if qualified and competent women are not promoted to senior positions.” The chairperson of the Progressive Women’s Movement in Limpopo, Ms Maria Mametja, said “to men that abuse women and children, as women we’re saying, enough is enough… we have had it, it’s time for action,” she said urging women to stand up against abuse.

Arrested for housebreaking in Politsi Modjadjiskloof Police have arrested two men in connection with a housebreaking incident in Politsi in August last year. Billy Letsoalo(26) from Bridgeway and Kagiso Malatjie(25) from Botlodi village in Bolobedu allegedly broke into a house in Politsi and stole one flat screen TV, one HP keyboard and one personal computer. On 31 July this year another case of housebreaking was opened after a 22 year-old man broke into a butchery at Mokgoba village. The suspect gained entry into the butchery near Maupa Primary School. Lisbon Elisaba Emelk (22) allegedly stole airtime coupons, eight packets of cigarettes and a case of beer. According to Modjadjiskloof Police Capt Gezani Baloyi the stolen items were estimated to be worth R2 740.

Maake Police arrested 55 Thirteen

were arrested by the Maake Police in the past week for violating the Liquor Act, six for drinking in public and four were arrested for contravening the Roads Traffic Act. Nine people were arrested for rape, one person was arrested for attempted rape and four people were arrested for assault with grievous bodily harm. Two people were arrested for possession of stolen property, two for common robbery, four for housebreaking, three for fraud and four for shoplifting. One person was arrested for pointing another person with a firearm, one person was arrested for failure to comply with the Maintainance Act and another was arrested for possession of dagga.

Body found on mountain The corpse of a 30 year-old man was found by ZCC members at Gabaza village on Saturday. Allegedly he had told his mother that he was going to Moria. When elders of the church came to enquire about his whereabouts, his mother told them that he had gone to Moria. The elders later heard on the radio that a body was found in the mountains and they immediately went to the Maake Police to identify the body. The deceased was identified as Tiyani Mabunda from Burgersdorp. An inquest has been opened by Maake Police and investigations are continuing.

Teacher (43) arrested for rape A 43 year-old teacher was arrested for raping a 16 year-old minor at Makhwibidung. It is alleged that the incident took place between 25 June and 3 August this year at the man’s residence. The man was allegedly giving the minor money each day, while raping her regularly. He carried on with this until he was reported to the Maake Police. He was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday. He is expected to appear again on Friday.

Busy week for Letsitele SAPS The Letsitele Police had a successful week with 47 people being arrested for various crimes. Three people were arrested for illegal gambling, two for theft, eight for drinking in public and ten for assault GBH. Fourteen motorists were arrested for violating the Road Traffic Act (RTA) and three suspects were taken into custody for conveying protected indigenous plants. Single arrests were made for possession of dagga, drunkenness, possession of game meat, malicious damage

Peace disturbed at Shalom Due to the quick response of police, robbers lost their bounty a few kilometres after it was stolen. Two robbers trespassed on the farm Shalom on the Eiland road on Thursday. They came across three farm workers and tied them up to prevent them from alerting anyone. The robbers then broke a window to gain access to the house and broke into a gun safe. They took firearms and escaped with the owner’s white Isuzu LDV. The Letsitele Police were alerted and immediately went to wait along the gateway. The suspects, however, spotted the police and fled with two 9 mm pistols. The LDV and four firearms were recovered, along with two boxes of R1 ammunition and 96 rounds for a hunting rifle. A case of robbery is being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Letsitele Police on 015 345 8000.

Farmer worker assaults co-worker Two female farm workers were embroiled in a bloody dispute at Bosveld Citrus last week Thursday. It is alleged that the suspect accused the complainant of using her hands to pick oranges instead of using scissors. A supervisor then sorted the matter between the two women. However, the complainant was attacked after they had finished work by the suspect. The suspect used scissors to attack the complainant. The complainant, Grace Mampa (39), was bleeding heavily from her face and neck after the attack. Both the suspect and the complainant live in Mariveni village. A case of assault GBH has been opened against the suspect. The suspect will appear in court soon.

H’burg Police clamp down Ten people were arrested for public drinking, 38 for contravening the Roads Traffic Act and five for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, by the Haenertsburg Police during the past week. Three people were also arrested for illegal gambling, two for possession of dagga and one person was arrested for theft. A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened against the driver of a truck who lost control of the vehicle on Monday. The accident happened at approximately 17:00 on the R71 next to Steven Lumber Mills. The truck carried oranges from Tzaneen and was heading for Polokwane. Only the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. Tzaneen Police Cluster spokesperson urged drivers to be cautious when driving on the curvy roads in the George’s Valley and Makgoebaskloof areas, and also warned against speeding.

Tzaneen Police Successes Tzaneen Police arrested 23 people for various criminal activities last week. Six people were arrested for common assault, three for burglary and six for theft. Four people were arrested for assault with grievous bodily harm, one for theft out of a motor vehicle, one for shoplifting and two for crimen injuria.

Street lights cause huge problems

Robots fixed The robots in Tzaneen will be fixed soon. It is especially the robot at the entrance to Tzaneen on the R71 that has not been working for some time now. The problem is that this specific robot uses a sophisticated type of computer card. The card (almost like a mother board used in a computer) blew and the manufacturers of the card didn’t have stock to replace the blown card. The director of electrical services of the GTM, Mr Pierre van den Heever, said older robots in town were being attended to. “Modernday robots use sophisticated electronics and thus need more expertise to fix,” he said. • Spares for the robots are not always immediately available and delays are unavoidable.

Residents of Tzaneen and in the outskirts should call the GTM’s electrical department to report faulty street lights, and not the emergency number for general problems with electricity. So says Mr Pierre van den Heever, the GTM’s director of electrical engineering. Asked about the relatively large number of street lights in Tzaneen that are currently out of order, he explained that problems could be related to old infrastructure, the vast number of street lights in the area, the lack of enough trucks with hoists and not always enough electricians to attend to the problems. The Letaba Fire Protection Association (LFPA) issued guidelines and rules and regulations pertaining to the making of fires in the open air, the destruction by burning of slash and clearing or maintenance of fire belts by burning and the execution of blockburns in the jurisdiction of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. All residents should take note of the following: 1. In the said areas, no person shall from 1 August 2013 up to and including 31 October 2013 make fire in the open air, or if such a fire has been made, allow it to burn or add fuel thereto, otherwise than

The strategic lights are lights that are being erected at strategic places or buildings (schools, clinics, etcetera) for security reasons. Added to this the department also has to maintain more than two thousand kilometers of high voltage lines in the jurisdiction of the GTM. Van den Heever repeated his request for street light problems to be reported to his office where it is noted in a special book, rather than to report it to the emergency numbers, since this will speed up the process.

(a) fires made within a demarcated picnic or camping area or Caravan Park or holiday resorts, but only at places within such an area which has been specifically prepared and maintained for that purpose: provided that such fires are

properly extinguished with water and/or sand; (b) fires for the preparations of food on residential stands; (c) fires made on residential and industrial stands in proclaimed townships; (d) burning of harvest residue on cultivated crop fields; provided that such fires are made from 05:00 to 22:00 on days when the forecast from the previous day’s 14:00 FDI is less than 45, as determined by the LFPA, except on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, when no burning may be undertaken, subject to directions in terms of regulation 12, promulgated in terms of the Conservation of Agriculture Resource Act, 1983 ( Act No. 45 of 1983), in consultation with local interested parties and with the permission of the LFPA, and the implementation of reasonable precautions to ensure that fires do not spread in the area,

(e) fires made for initiation school purposes, but only at places, which have been specially prepared and maintained for that purpose to prevent fires from spreading;

2. In the said areas no person shall from 1 May 2013 up to and including 31 October 2013 destroy by burning slash originating from any pine timber plantation or any selfsown pine trees; 3. In the said areas no person shall from 1 August 2013 up to and including 31 October 2013, clear or maintain a fire belt by burning, or execute block burns: provided that veld for range land management, may be burnt from 05:00 to 22:00 on days when the forecast from the previous day’s 14:00 FDI is less than 45, as determined by the LFPA, except on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, when no burning may be undertaken, subject to direction in terms of regulation 12... see paragraph 1 (d) above for this information.

Ons kry die indruk dat die meerderheid mense wil hê die handelaars moet behoorlik gereguleer word en dat die wette, verordeninge en ordonnansies wat vir formele handelaars geld, en wat in die beste belange van die groot publiek is (byvoorbeeld oor higiëne), op die informele handelaars toegepas moet word. Die mense wat pro die informele handelaars is weerlê nie die anti-groep se argumente nie en blyk te voel laasgenoemde groep gun nie die mense die reg om ‘n eerlike inkomste te verdien nie. Die twee groepe moet dalk die woordjie “eerlike” die kernwoord in die debat maak. Want dit is waarom dit gaan: eerlik beteken binne die eise van die wet (in ons reeds so wettelose land), en dit beteken ook nie ten koste van ander nie. Hoe lyk dit?

The Message Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church Tzaneen If Christ is the head of our family, if He is truly the father-figure in our lives then why do some marriages just not workout? Why do people drift apart? It is because we do not put Christ first in what we do, we do not believe that He is in control. We want to try to do everything on our own, often using the expression “God helps those who help themselves”. We often believe that because God has given us certain talents we really do not need His help, we can survive. But we forget what Jesus said “I am with you always” It is only when things go really bad that we turn to God and ask for His help. Yet it is often in the most mundane things that His help is needed. I sometimes work on a motor car and then a bolt won’t go in our something like that, I might struggle for hours to try to get it right without any success only then I ask for God’s help and lo and behold I find that the bolt goes in a lot easier. I had been doing it incorrectly. Now people might think that this is really a silly example, but time and time again it works. Why? Because although I have the knowledge I still make mistakes. This is what experts call the “human factor” It is only when we trust God in the little things in our lives that we can see that His promise to be with us always is true. All our problems are often man-made, yet we tend to ask God why? The major cause of problems today is because of our lack of faith. We have the Holy Spirit to help us but once again we only call for help when we do not know what else to do. Let us call on God in good times as well as in bad times and give Him the praise that is due to Him. Blessings

Secret meetings Langa Bodlani, Media Officer, DA Limpopo, 083 769 4545, writes per e-mail: The ANC in Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM) is hell bent on doing everything in its powers to prevent opposition parties from attending crucial Council meetings to discuss salary increases for officials and the Integrated Development Plans. This meeting was first scheduled to sit on 27 June at Ga-Kgapane Sub-Offices. DA councillor, Mattie Willemse in the municipality arrived at the set time and date but nothing of the meeting occurred. Only then was he informed that the meeting had been changed to Sekgosese, some 50 kilometres away. Yesterday’s follow up meeting was again scheduled to be held at Ga-Kgapane SubOffices at 15h00. However this meeting was held at 09h00 without informing any of the other parties represented in the Council. As a result only the ANC members were present. As this appears as a deliberate ploy by the ANC to sideline our councillor. I will be writing to MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe to urge him to overrule yesterday’s council decision as the meeting was convened without following procedure. There are serious tender fraud allegations which at this municipality which our councillor has been pursuing and all his attempts to get the relevant documents have been blocked. It is clear that the ANC now wants to run this municipality without any oversight from the other parties. Now all they can do is prevent our representative from attending crucial meetings where municipal finances are discussed. We challenge MEC Kgetjepe to heed to the premier’s undertaking to turn this province into a clean province by revoking yesterday’s GLM decisions until all represented party structures are properly informed and have their say in the finances of the municipality.

– I choose!

Today we introduce Ms Dimakatjo Kekana to our readers, in Bulletin’s exclusive series about local young entrepreneurs and achievers. Dima is well-known to many Absa clients in the area. Annemieke Maritz interviewed her for today’s contribution. May! May you please give me… Those are the words that Dima is carrying very close to her heart. “I get most of my things in May. May is my month. My Mpho, my pregnancies, my permanent employment sprung upon me in May. ”It’s crystal clear that whenever Dima asks for something it has to be around May or it will surprise her in May. She believes in May as many other people believe that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Gracing the world with her million dollar smile is 28 year-old Dimakatjo Kekana. Most people know her as Dima, short and sweet — just like her. Dima is originally from Mokopane, where she grew up. For the past five years she’s been serving Absa clients in Tzaneen, seeing to their needs as a consultant. “Since I can remember I always had a love for the office,” Dima says. She has been at Absa for eight years in total. She’s lived the big city life in Johannesburg (for a while), then moved to Polokwane (some place between a city and town) and is now truly happy in

her ‘Tzaneen skin’. “The ‘big city’ was too small for me and too much of a city with its busyness and traffic. I used to cry almost every day, being late because of the annoying traffic. I enjoy my space, ”Dima explains. She did a one-year banking and service advice-certificate through Damelin and at the moment she is studying part time through Unisa, for a B Com Administration degree. Besides being a full-time working consultant, Dima also fulfils the roles of a full-time mother and part-time student. Her determination is “I am going to be known”. She then moves on to her inspiration — her high school teacher, Mr Peter Lelaka. “He was not only my accounting teacher but also very much a father figure to me. ”She shows me a private message he sent her, not too long ago. She quickly states that it is a bit weird that he uses WhatsApp but she carries on swiftly. The message: “Are you studying,Dima?” With a smile overflowing with appreciation she comments: “He is a darling, he is still checking up on me.” We resume talking about her job. “The best part of my job is meeting young clients and seeing to their needs, especially the positive ones with a lot of ambition.” It is important to her to not only serve the needs

of a client, but also build a relationship. “Sometimes you get your best advice from just having a normal conversation, sharing,” she remarks. Her advice to other consultants out there is to listen and then ask how you can help the client.They should also be humble and patient. Dima describes herself as a person that gets along well with everyone. “I am an open book.” She believes that she has a gift of reading people and that helps her a lot in dealing with different clients. “Everyone is different. Sometimes I can have a heart-toheart conversation in between all the numbers and sometimes it is best just to get to the point. “In the end an understanding has to be reached.” She believes that blaming gets you nowhere and that it is best to find a solution. She adds that some days are really stressful and her remedy to relieve this unwanted stress is just to sit down and give herself a pep talk by saying: “Dima, this was your choice, you chose this.” That always seems to do the trick and gets rid of that annoying stress lingering at the back of her head. Her daily duties at work are keeping the clients happy and to ensure that they walk out with a smile. After seeing to that, she

takes on the role of a full-time mother: spending some time with her children, fiancé and doing house chores. “I have to keep Mpho happy, otherwise he will leave me, “she says and laughs. In her free time she enjoys ‘chilling’ at home, playing with the children and watching TV. Dima loves seafood and orders seafood whenever she goes to a restaurant. She feels that other food is manageable in your own kitchen and regards seafood as a treat. She has been together with her fiancé for five years. With a big smile on her face she tells me more about Mpho and that “he came in as an Absa client and left with the whole package – love at first sight!” Their family also includes two youngsters, a one year-old boy and a three year-old girl. “They are my ‘everything’ and changed my perspective of being a very busy mom, although I don’t sleep much. My boy has this habit of waking me up by pulling my eyelids up and down saying ‘mammamamma’.” According to Dima she is living her dream. “I have everything now. I have achieved enough for a 28 year-old. I have two beautiful children, a soon-to-be husband and a very nice job. I can afford my life. I don’t know if I should thank God or my ancestors, but I am so fortunate.” She recalls the day that she drove past Lenyenye and saw people washing their dirty clothes in a stream, sitting there in the dead heat. “I felt so bad, because I can so easily complain about my life”. In Sepedi her name, Dimakatjo, means surprise. She doesn’t know what surprise is going to make an appearance next, but she will welcome it with open arms. Passionate Dima ends her conversation by saying that coming to Limpopo brought her back home and that the next ‘May’ is just around the corner.

Pupils from five different schools including two from Mpumalanga participated in a very competitive first youth show in Tzaneen during the annual Letaba Show — 55 participants, the youngest being 11 yearold Jessica Botha from Dr Annecke Primary School in Letsitele, took part. Morgenzon Landbou Akademie, Hoërskool Middelburg, Merensky, Dr Annecke and Unicorn Preparatory all participated in this prestige event. Participants competed in the following categories: cattle, sheep, goats and poultry and the participants competed in the age groups u.13, u.14 and seniors u.19.

The fading paintwork on the road surface of the roads and parking area at the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre will be redone soon. Ms Suzette Dippenaar of the Lifestyle management team said templates for the stop signs and other markings were ordered and the repainting will be done before the rainy season starts. The reason for the short-lived paintwork was explained by a construction expert to be normal on a newly tarred surface. Once the surface has settled and stabilized, the absorbtion of paint into the tarmac is limited to the minimum. ‘n Groep leerlinge van die Laerskool Tzaneen het koppe laat draai tydens ‘n jaarlikse Bybelvasvra by die Laerskool Hennopspark. The group of artistic male gymnasts from Zani’s Gymnastics Academy in Tzaneen won several medals at a recent interclub competition. Zani’s Tzaneen took fifteen gymnasts to compete with fellow club members from Polokwane, Hoedspruit and Tzaneen for a place in the Limpopo championships. All fifteen were selected to compete at the annual prestige Limpopo Championships, where the best

compete for a spot in the Limpopo team. Thirteen boys attended the Reach for the Stars interclub competition in Centurion to prepare for the Limpopo Championships. They competed against 352 male gymnasts from sixteen gymnastics clubs throughout Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The group won fourteen medals: three gold, eight silver and three bronze.

Three Merensky girls hockey teams played in Noordvaal Merensky’s hockey girls played in numerous games in the Noordvaal tournament. The youngsters of the u.14 team played two games in Klerksdorp. They won the first against Bastion with four goals to nil. The second game was against Delmas High School, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The team then played in the quarter finals against Helpmekaar and lost 3-1. Merenky’s u.15 girls travelled to Witbank for their Noordvaal clashes. In their first pool match, they played against Delmas. Merensky won 3-0. The goal scorers were Simoné Pretorius and Pat Madalane (the last goal was an ‘own goal’). The second pool match was played against Krugersdorp. Merensky lost the match 3-1. The goal was scored by Altacia Gubitz. Despite the loss, Merensky still made it through to the quarter finals, and had to face Ben Viljoen. The match was tied 1-1, and went into extra time. No goals were scored during extra time. The 8 second shootout was then introduced, during which Merensky

scored 1 goal and Ben Viljoen two. The members of the u.15 team are seen on the photo herewith. In front is Cathleen Horne and in the row behind her are Altacia Gubitz, Pat Madalane, Xané du Toit, Eljané Uys, Michelle Stevens and Mariska Fourie. Veertig atlete van die Laerskool Tzaneen het aan die tweede LLSV-landloopkompetisie deelgeneem. Duncan Watson, Joleen Spaumer en Zoë Malherbe het medaljes gewen.

Die o.12 A-netbalspan het einde Julie aan die SA Netball Schools’ Challenge deelgeneem. Die span is (voor) Monica Meyer, Nyeleti Hlaniki, Mookete Maleta, Juanet Venter, (middel) Suné Bezuidenhout, Kayla Howard, Tomelo Malematje, Me Karen Engelbrecht (afrigter). Kayla Armstrong was afwesig.

The gymnasts then moved on to claim 24 medals (seven gold, fourteen silver and three bronze) at the Limpopo Championships. Several gymnasts excelled and were awarded Limpopo Colours. Paul Engelbrecht, Aldrich Hugo, Stefan Otto, Gunther Katzke, Benno Kotze, Dian de Lange and Wessel de Kock will compete at the North Zone South African Championships on 30 and 31 August in Kempton Park.

Rhino 7’s tournament explodes into action

The first Rhino 7’s tournament took place at Merensky High School over the long weekend. Visiting teams included Wonderboom, Heidelberg Volkskool, Nylstroom, Die Anker and PHS. Merensky entered three teams, a first, second and a special Agri Team, consisting of 2012 matrics. A total of no less than thirty games were played, six games to a side. Merensky’s Armand Pretorius was caught in action when he Excellent 7’s rugby was played. scored a corner try for his team. Merensky’s first team showed great promise from the word go. The tournament was a great success, and the players proved that sportsmanship still rules. In the Elephant bowl, Merensky 2 played against the Agri team. The Agri team was too strong for the Plasies and won 24-12. In the Leopard shield, PHS won against Heidelberg Volkskool 24-7. Merensky 1 played in the Lion Plate against Wonderboom, winning 295. Die Anker beat Nylstroom in the Rhino cup with a close 21-20. On the photo herewith are the Merensky 1 players. Vossie-hokkie buig ongelukkig knie Die o.14- en o.15-hokkiespelers van die Hoërskool Ben Vorster het oor die langnaweek aan die Noordvaal Toernooi deelgeneem. Vir albei spanne was die vinnige hokkie op die Astro-bane ‘n groot aanpassing.

Die o.14-spannetjie het hul eerste wedstryd teen Marais Viljoen met 3-1 gewen. Op dieselfde dag wen hulle ook ‘n wedstryd teen HTS Witbank met 2-0. Hulle speel later gelykop teen Monument (0-0). In die kwarteindstryd moes die Vossies teen

Pietersburg Hoërskool speel, waar hulle die knie voor die stadsjapies moes buig. Die o.15’s van die Vossies is minder gelukkig en moes die knie buig voor Hugenote, Ermelo en Noordheuwel — en is so uitgeskakel uit die toernooi.

Sven van Niekerk, die Hoërskool Ben Vorster se SA atleet wat onlangs ook in Rusland deelgeneem het, was die gasspreker by die eerste atletiekdinee wat deur die skool aangebied is.
