Dark secret
An internet café allegedly operating as a front for an illegal gambling house at Tzaneen Crossing, was robbed during the early hours of Wednesday. According to the Tzaneen Police three armed men wearing balaclavas entered the premises of Cyber-net at approximately 03:00. They made off with an estimated R40 000 in cash and three iPhones valued at R12 000 each. Nobody was hurt in the robbery and no arrests have yet been made. Although officially registered and branded as an internet café, observed evidence strongly suggests that Cyber-net is a casino. It is said that a “normal” trading licence could not provide for a casino, since any gambling box and activity is supposed to be approved by there were no keythe provincial gambling board. boards or mouse att achments as Bulletin paid a visit to their premisthe screens are touch sensitive. Despite large signs offering printing and internet services, Bulletin was expressly denied the use of any of the computers to connect to the internet and referred to PostNet (next door) for any printing requirements. We failed in our numerous efforts to obtain contact details for Cyber-net other than a cellular number for a Mr Byron Pelser. The business has no online footprint either. We tried in vain to gain clarity on the matter from Mr Pelser, but at the time of going to print his phone remained unanswered. The SAPS could not offer any information either, other than confirming the robbery. Bulletin is in possession of hidden camera footage filmed inside the socalled internet café which you can view online by visiting www.bulletin.us.com and clicking on our video tab.

Upgrading of facilities at Gods Haven continue The unselfish assistance from members of the Tzaneen community continues to help the board of the Gods Haven Care Centre for senior citizens to be upgraded. Bathroom number 7’s recent upgrade produced a “brand-new” facility (see attached photographic-evidence of the final work). The management team (all volunteers) asked that their sincere gratitude towards the sponsors for their total commitment and support is conveyed. “Even more remarkable was their unsolicited willingness,” said Mr Henk Mienie, the secretary. “We salute the following sponsors for their generous donations viz: The Apostolic Faith Mission (Pastor Hannes Steyn and Ms Madie Coetzee) for the co-ördination of sponsor activities, as well as the financial support; CTM (Mr Werner Schulze) for tiles, tile cement and sundry related items; ON-TAP Plumbing

Die Plakkers (R10 elk) is beskikbaar by winkels van Toys R Us en Babies R Us winkels. Die Tekkie Tag-skoenveters (R35 per pakkie) is besikbaar by Clicks.
Hy was 65 jaar oud.

CGA swops AgriSA for Agribiz
AgriSA has lost the membership of the Citrus Growers Association (CGA) of Southern Africa, who joined Agribiz recently. Mr Justin Chadwick, CEO of the CGA, said the change was made purely for practical reasons, as the models followed by Agribiz are more suitable for the citrus industry’s development and marketing access
plans in future. He added that their respect for AgriSA and its role in organised agriculture is not affected by the decision and that the switch was made in the best interest of its members and routes to be followed in the years to come. Chadwick said members of the CGA serving in important structures of AgriSA’s affiliates will not be affected by the switch. Priority issues, such as rural safety, water affairs etcetera will still be attended to under the AgriSA umbrella. Mr Pieter Vorster (photo above), chairman of AgriLetaba, said a meeting will be held soon between the CGA and AgriLimpopo, to get clarity on certain issues, after which the agricultural community in Limpopo will be informed on the matter.

Shark victim Tammy is back at Varsity FOLLOW UP
Tzaneen’s very own shark attack survivor, Ms Tammy Scott (23), is back at varsity and recovering well. Six months ago Bulletin reported on the horrific events that unfolded at a secluded Transkei holiday home at Mpanda beach, when Tammy was attacked by what appeared to have been a Bull shark. Her father was in the water at the time and rushed to her aid. Because of the extensive damage to her hands and forearms during the attack, Tammy had to undergo a number of reconstructive surgeries and therapy to help her regain the use of her hands. At the time it was unclear whether she would have recovered enough to attend class and finish her final year at the
University of Stellenbosch, where she is completing her B Com Accounting degree. “We are happy to report that Tammy is back at class and coping well, despite still receiving therapy for her right hand,” said mom Tessa Scott this week. “We took her to university two months earlier, so that she could start settling in and get used to working with the splint around her wrist and on her right index finger. We believe that she might complete her exams either orally or through the use of computer software.” During the attack, Tammy used her arms to fend off the shark which resulted in her ligaments and tendons being ripped to shreds. After surgery however,
her left arm has almost completely recovered. She still wears a splint on her right wrist as the scar tissue has attached to the muscle which is limiting the use of the hand. Bulletin was unable to reach Tammy for comment as she was attending class. “She is coping very well and already driving, cooking and socialising as she used to. We are confident of a full recovery soon,” added Ms Scott Sr. -Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

FNB hands over desk bags First National Bank (FNB) handed over one thousand desk bags (DeskBag is the registered name for the special bags), which they sponsored to underpriviledged children in Limpopo, at an event held at the Khumelong Primary School in the Kgapane area. According to a parliamentary response by the ministry of basic education, millions of children do not have school desks and are forced to learn while seated or kneeling on dusty floors, using the floor as a writing surface. DeskBags is an innovative solution
to this challenge. The hybrid school satchels double as desks when folded open. The bag flap is reinforced with plastic, ensuring a hard and stable surface for children to write on.
One thousand impoverished children benefit To celebrate the occasion, FNB was joined by the Mayor of the Greater Letaba Municipality, Mr City Modjadji, members of the Modjad-

The Animal Demography Unit’s goal is to promote an appreciation of nature and biodiversity in Africa. Our purpose is to provide a platform for anyone in Africa to contribute to conservation projects (Citizen Science) by taking photographs of animals and plants in the wild and submitting them to our Virtual Museum. These records help us to understand the distributions of species, how they are impacted by humans, and what actions are needed to protect them. You can help us to map the amazing biodiversity of South Africa and Africa by submitting your photos to the Virtual Museum. ji family, traditional leaders, members of the Limpopo Legislature as well as DeskBags ambassador Armand du Plessis, Mr SA 2015/16. In his keynote address, Modjadji said, “Education is key in the advancement of our societies and we are encouraged by the private sector’s commitment to address the challenges that are hampering our children’s educational advancement.” Peter Mafuna, FNB Limpopo Regional Head added, “A big focus for us over the past sixteen years has been on adopting initiatives that will make South Africa a better place for all. With education being a core area in achieving this mandate, partnering
with DeskBags was a no brainer for us.” The special bags are made by women from underprivileged backgrounds, and provides them with a means to earn a living. Because of this, each bag is constructed with infinite care and is so strong and durable that if well looked after well, it can last a child many productive years.
New Spar for Bindzulani The mostly vacant very old dilapidated Bindzulani shopping centre in Nkowankowa will soon be accommodating a new Letaba Super Spar store. The centre is owned and managed by the Limpopo Enterprise Development Agency (LEDA). It covers about 5 000 metres. The centres most shops closed down and it has no national anchor tenants. There is a post office, a filling station and some small informal traders. LEDA’s regional manager, Mr Joseph Mathivha, said its been five years since the
Tshamakala Group placed their proposal to revamp the centre but a legal conflict arose between the local authorities and LEDA about who controls the land and has the mandate to allow the upgrade of the centre. “Despite the fact that Nkowankowa has market potential and is in a good location for a region-
al shopping centre, disputes relating to land ownership have held up the development process before but its all sorted now,” said Mathivha. The Tshamakala Group hopes to finish the shops’ renovations soon. – Phidelia Rikhotso phidelia@bulletin.us.com

YOUTH!
Often in today’s life this has become a swear word because of what we see is going on around about us today.
It seems that the youth are out of control, there are riots, civil disobedience, drunkenness, and other such occurrences. On Carte Blanche the other night I watched a report on a British young man, who was white, who had joined a terrorist group which we regard as one of the worst in the world, ISIS. No actual reason could be given as to why he joined them. There were different theories, but I felt at a loss as to why he did this. How often do we actually know what our children are up to? Yes, they need their freedom, but they also need a safe haven to come back to. Here we often lack in our attempts to provide this as we are perhaps a little too busy with our own lives and work to notice any change in our children’s behaviour patterns. One thing struck me when they were interviewing the mother of the man who became a terrorist and that was that it was said; he was brought up in non-religious home. I believe that when there are no specific religious principals in a home, the child can easily become confused and hang onto or join a group in which they can become indoctrinated. It can be argued that main stream religions can be seen as a form of indoctrination, but if the true values of that religion are practiced and upheld then I see no actual indoctrination. In Christianity we are given a free choice: either accept Christ as our Saviour or reject Him. The choice is ours, if we have been correctly informed and guided then the choice will be easy. This message must be clearly transferred to our children. So who is to blame if our children get out of hand? Is it the authorities, peer pressure, modern technology or perhaps us as parents? The youth are the leaders of the future and therefore we need to instil moral values in them, it is everyone’s responsibility. The churches need to play a big part in including the youth and not judging them for being too young, allowing them express themselves in a loving environment. Far too long it has been assumed that only the minister/ priest had the sole right to do everything in the service. It is about time that the youth be allowed to take part in the service, be it reading the scriptures or saying the prayers, so that they feel part of the community of Christ. A community of shared love for Him. So let us not just blame the youth for everything, let us use them as full members of our churches as well. Maybe then things will change for the better. Parents love your children by encouraging them in all their endeavours.
God Bless.
Briewe • Letters Dié mense weet: “He who owns the youth, gains the future.” Een leerling het tydens die Wuvani onluste gesê: “I saw my future go up in flames.” Hoe verskriklik tragies.
The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth. Victor Hugo het gesê: “Open a school door and close a prison door.”
Jy is belaster.
Daar is alternatiewe.

Local Government & the news that matters Local elections are around the corner. Bulletin will henceforth address various issues affecting the residents of the local municipalities in our area: Mopani District Municipality, Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Greater Letaba Municipality, Maruleng Municipality and Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.
Protest for uniforms continue. Or...? Is the spin doctor lying, or the staff? Who is lying? Striking workers at the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s (GTM) electro-technical department on Wednesday confirmed that they will continue with their protest action, until management show that they are serious to meet their demands. However, the GTM’s spokesperson, Mr Neville Ndlala, said on Tuesday that “it was not a strike, only a go-slow” and added that the workers have been issued with protective clothing. According to Ndlala the workers are back at work and happy that their demands have been met. It is not for the Bulletin to decide who is lying, but our journalists, like others with whom we communicate, have reason (and proof) not to accept everything that Ndlala — the GTM’s spin doctor — spits out as factual. He is also rather unreliable when it comes to assisting the media with comment. The protest action has entered its fourth week, since the workers downed tools and embarked on a strike for better working conditions and personal protective equipment (PPE). The workers claim the GTM is not placing their well-being and safety in the workplace on the top of their priority list. A worker who spoke on condition of anonymity said a fortnight ago they had a meet-
ing with management and reached a consensus of not working without uniforms until they received PPE. “We have entered the second week. We will wait for the outcome next week .They promised us that PPE will be delivered within three weeks,” he said. The local chairperson of the SA Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), Mr Victor Manyama, said on Wednesday, “The challenge is that employees are without uniforms and workers are at a standstill. “We met with management. The safety boots arrived and there was a delay in dispatching work suits, but the management anticipated for about two weeks. “That can’t be an excuse, since if workers get injured, it will be a labour matter,” said Manyama. Ndlala, however, said the challenge which they had to face was a go-slow and not a protest action. He again denied that the action was continuing. “On the very same day when you called for comment (some two weeks ago), the complete set of PPE was delivered and handed over to each worker. The go-slow is over and employees are back at work,” he said. — Phidelia Rikhoso phidelia@bulletin.us.com
New questions for GTM unanswered The Bulletin sent a formal written Media Anquiry to the GTM’s spokesperson and spin doctorin-chief on Tuesday at 14:00, with a request for compliance with our deadline. The spokesperson, Mr Neville Ndlala, did not acknowledge receipt of the enquiry nor did he reply to the questions — true to his style (sic!). Below is the enquiry (verbatim) sent to him by e-mail. 1. It is understood that Adv Stephen Monyela, the Manager: Legal Services in the Directorate Corporate Services, has been appointed Acting Director: Corporate Services. The post of Director has been vacant for some time. 1.1 How long has this post been vacant; 1.2 Is there a reason why the post has not been filled yet? 1.3 What is the outlook for filling the post? 2. Ms Dikeledi Malatji, the Director: Engineering Services, has been suspended. 2.1 When was she suspended? 2.2 Has she been suspended retaining her full remuneration? 2.3 Has she been charged? 2.3.1 If yes, what is the charge against her? 2.3.2 If not, when will she be charged? 2.3.3 Why, if not, has she not been charged yet? 2.4 Who is now acting in this post? 2.5 Is the person acting in this position
qualified for the job? 3. The Manager: Communications & Marketing in the Directorate Corporate Services, Mr Neville Ndlala, has been acting in the post for some time now. 3.1 Since when has he been acting? 3.2 What is the reason for the post not being filled? 3.3 Is Mr Ndlala qualified for this post? 3.4 If YES, why is he not appointed? 3.5 If NO, what has been done over this long period of time since the previous Manager resigned, to advertise and fill the post? 3.6 It is alleged that the GTM is saving money, since Mr Ndlala is acting at a much lower salary than the salary for this post. What would the GTM’s reaction be to this allegation? • Our deadline for the next edition of Bulletin is Wednesday 11 May 2016 at 12:00. It will be appreciated if you could furnish us with your replies before then.

Klaserie poachers want bail The three suspected rhino poachers (said to be from Mozambique) arrested in the Klaserie Nature Reserve earlier this week, appeared in the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s court on Wednesday. They were charged with posses-

sion of an illegal firearm and ammunition, and possession of rhino horn. The cases against Phillip Zitha (58), Vusi Justice Madonsela (35) and Frans Mahlauwe (38) were postponed to 16 May for a formal bail application. The three were arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a game ranger in the reserve heard a gunshot and tracked them down. In their possession were a hunting rifle, six rounds of live ammunition and one empty cartridge as well as the rhino horn. The ranger alerted the police and at around 16:30 the suspects were arrested. At the time of going to print there was still no confirmation from authorities as to whether the poached rhino had been located, or what had happened to the animal. It is also not clear at this stage who the legitimate owner of the rifle and ammunition could be. —Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

Bellevue residents on the rampage The Police warned motorists to avoid the R81 road R81 between Giyani and Mooketsi at Bellevue village. Community members took to the streets in a protest action due to a water crisis in the area. Bolobedu police spokesperson, Const Millicent Mohale, confirmed that a protest action was taking place and that it was being monitored by police. She said no arrests or injuries have been
reported yet. A case of public violence was opened. “The crowd burnt tyres and blocked the road with stones and Public Order Police (POP) members cleared the scene. POP members are there but motorists are advised to avoid the area or drive extremely cautious,” warned Mohale. – Phidelia Rikhotso phidelia@bulletin.us.com
Kollege-gesprekke gaan voort

Tzaneen Eco Club 27 May
The Tzaneen Eco Club invites you to attend an introduction to the wonderful world of BioMAPping and the Virtual Museum. During an evening presentation on Friday 27 May, the delightful and dynamic Megan Loftie- Eaton, from the Animal Demography Unit at the University of Cape Town, will talk about the power of citizen science and how people can make their photos count for conservation. On 28 May time will be spent with her in the lovely Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve (recognised as one of SA’s great biodiversity hotspots) and have fun putting it into practice. Megan was born in Polokwane and grew up in Stellenbosch. She moved with her family to Canada, where she completed a BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences. They moved back to South Africa in 2011 and Megan started her MSc in Zoology at the University of Cape Town. Her research was on the geographic range dynamics of SA’s bird species. In 2014 she began her PhD, looking at the impacts of bush encroachment on bird distribution and biodiversity in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. She is the project coordinator of the Atlas of African Lepidoptera (LepiMAP), a project aimed at determining the distribution and conservation priorities of butterflies and moths on the African continent. She is also a BirdMAP Assistant; helping with the ADU’s bird atlas project in other African countries including Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Rwanda, Kenya and Nigeria. The talk will be held at 18:30 on 27 May at the Macadamia Community Hall. Tea and coffee will be served. On 28 May interested parties will meet at the Lekgalameetse main gate at 06:30. From there they will proceed into the reserve to explore the varied habitats, including Acacia woodland, Mistbelt forest and Afromontane grassland, each supporting a myriad of life forms. New Georges Valley 4x4 challenge The popular Georges Valley 4x4 Day will be held again this year, on Saturday 18 June at The Hub. All entries and tickets must be done online. This year they are hosting an Obstacle Course for the more serious and experienced drivers (at R450 per vehicle) or three Trails starting at 07:00, 09:00 and 11:00.
Unusual orchid displayed… The annual Orchid Show at the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre again created much interest this past weekend. Never before shown at the show, was this unusual Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann. Bulbophyllum is one of the biggest genera in the orchid world and there are over one thousand species. Three of them occur naturally in the Tzaneen area. They are pollinated by flies and not bees as is the case with most orchids. They mimic rotten meat, are hairy, and have a distinct odd fishy smell. Photo: Sue Ettmayr
The trails are more family focused and can be driven by novice drivers and cost R300 per vehicle. As per usual, no GVA function will be without excellent entertainment in the tent. This year’s entertainer will be Michael Ferguson, a name that is synonymous with music. He has been rocking audiences across the country for seven years. He brought us radio hits such as ‘Alone’ and ‘K.I.S.S.I.N.G’ and has just dropped his latest single ‘Paper Plane’, which is generating much interest on the music scene. His music video garnered over 15 000 hits on social media in its first week, leaving a footprint of impressed fans. His show is guaranteed to get you partying as he performs covers ranging across all era’s. He is charismatic and energetic and his repertoire covers a wide variety ranging from Lady Gaga to Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra and Maroon 5. Not to mention hailing
from a family of musical talent, his father being part of the legendary band Ballyhoo who topped our charts some years ago with ‘Man on the moon’ —
and he will be on stage with Michael Ferguson. Cost: R150 p/p. Visit www.georgesvalley.co.za for more information, and watch the Bulletin for further info.

Bulletjie-rugbydag (met 1 000 seuntjies) by Tzaneen Laerskool was ‘n skouspel
Vossies toer in Suidkaap

Tough outing for Plasies
The Merensky hockey boys had a tough two days in Groblersdal. Tthey played against Ben Viljoen High School and had mixed results. The u.14 boys drew their match 0-0. The u.15’s lost 0-1 after struggling to find their form again. The second team suffered a defeat of 0-3 against a very good Ben Viljoen team. The star team of the day was the first team who played an awesome match to overcome the Ben Viljoen onslaught 2-1. Mfuyo Madalane scored the opening goal and JJ Davis tapped in a cross from Blake Linder. The next day the struggle continued with matches against Groblersdal Academy, where entertaining hockey was played. In a see-saw match the u.15’s lost 2-3. The team showed courage, but inconsistent play lead to their defeat. The first team played a gruelling match and ended up losing 0-1. The spectators were treated to a hockey exhibition of commitment and skill. The goalkeeper, Donovan van Tonder, did well to keep the score down.

“Hiking with your feelings exposed to the sun might give you heartburn. And even if you protect yourself by going on midnight strolls, you could trip over your high expectations in the dark.” — Bauvard
