With the global call for all South Africans to unite against corruption and against the ANC powerhouse, there were many huge protests and marches throughout the country on Friday. Even the village of Haenertsburg had some 50 strong protesters who feel passionate about their country and the wrong-

doings within President Zuma’s stronghold.

They gathered outside the village at Lekwar restaurant on the side of the R71.

It was a very misty morning with intermittent rain. However everyone came prepared and with posters. Frans de Bruyn from Lekwar, with the South African flag draped

around his shoulders, brought the protesters welcome cups of hot coffee.

Taxis, trucks and cars hooted as they drove past, waved and stuck their clenched fists out the windows to shout ‘amandla.’ Protesters also sang and danced in the rain as they waved their banners at passing motorists.

Kloof Caravan Park could run again relocated elsewhere. The GLM took over the duties of running the facility which is now abandoned. The structures have all been looted of their implements such as two-plate stoves and fridges, the grounds have been left unkempt and the once beautiful chalets and caretaker home are now barely visible among the shrubbery which stand nearly roof height.

Why has this park been left to ruin? We asked the municipality and they blamed the Limpopo Tourism Agency with whom they entered into an agreement concerning the management of the park.

“It is worth noting that the municipality did not deliberately abandon the Caravan Park. The park was renovated by the municipality because it recognised the potential it had into bringing in tourists within the town and GLM,” said Lovers Maenetje, spokesperson of the GLM. “The Municipality

got into an agreement with Limpopo Tourism Agency to take over the park and manage it on its behalf provided it got a company that would deal with it directly. This was done because the municipality did not have enough capacity to manage the park on a daily basis. Unfortunately the agency could not manage to secure the company for the management of the park.”

Since then, one of the residents put in an offer to manage the caravan park on behalf of the municipality, but that offer was rejected. That same resident has again approached the Mayor’s office to discuss the possibility of restoring the site and managing it back to its former glory. At the time of going to print no clarity on the outcome of that meeting has yet been given to the community.

“The municipality has recently taken a decision that it will clean the park and put it back to its original form and manage it,” added Maenetje. “It is appreciated that there are community members who have shown interest in managing the park and that has been noted, the municipality will venture into that idea to see how it can collaborate the efforts of the community to make sure that the place is up and running.”

Bulletin will report on the matter as it unfolds. In the meantime the GLM has stated that they value the inputs of their community and the efforts by social groups to restore the town to its former glory.

The Greater Letaba Municipality said it’s not their fault that the once beautiful caravan park in Modjadjiskloof now lies in ruin. They will, however, implement plans to have the site restored. This comes after a media enquiry into the derelict site which has been left to ruin over the course of the last 20 years.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s the site was a major tourist attraction in the area. It featured self-catering chalets, beautiful open spaces, a communal lapa, ablution facilities and a few fully equipped caravan and camp stands scattered around some of the most beautiful views of the Modjadjiskloof area.

There was a fully equipped home on site which is where the caretaker, a lady by the name of Doughty Jacobs, lived.

Modjadjiskloof still has no water Five days without running water. That is the fate of the current residents of the once beautiful town of Modjadjiskloof. Some have had to resort to collecting water in bottles and buckets to ensure some form of sanitation within their homes. Drinking the water is not an option.

The infrastructure is aged with the majority of the water supply pipes still being asbestos pipes which are now unable to handle the water pressure and burst constantly under the increased supply load.

The municipality’s repair teams do not replace the pipes, instead attempt to mend the bursts, but then struggle to find the aged couplings and other fittings to do so. The water from the burst pipes cause mudslides to fill the pavements of the town’s CBD which in turn cause damage to shopkeepers.

When Bulletin asked the Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM) for comment on the water shortages a month ago, they admitted that the infrastructure is aged and will have to be upgraded. The GLM also assured the residents that a project to improve the distribution of water to the households in Modjadjiskloof was tabled and would be completed in July this year. “The project has started and is reported that the project will be completed at the end of July 2017. The Bulk supply line will also be upgraded for effective supply as the infrastructure has also aged.”

Residents feel that they have been lied to for so long that any statement by their municipality should be regarded as a form of pacification, rather than a promise to deliver. “We always hear these very nicely worded promises by the ward councillors and the municipal manager and even the mayor, but then months go by without any implementation. When we query the situation, we are told that there is a lack of

funding, or the problem is shifted onto another government body. We are sick and tired of this nonsense and we demand answers.”

As with many communities struggling to get a response or reaction from their municipality, the Modjadjiskloof citizens have resorted to forming a WhatsApp group which acts as a means of communication between themselves and their ward councillors and as a support group among neighbours.

The group posts their complaints daily in the hopes that a councillor or official in one of the departments will take notice of their situation.

“They are on there – the councillors and municipal officials – and if we are lucky, we might get some communication from them. Most of the time the only response we get is from the spokesperson of the GLM, Lovers Maenetje, who tries to calm everyone’s nerves.”

Bulletin spoke to the bulk water supplier, Lepelle Northern Water in Polokwane. Simon Mpamonyane, the organization’s media liaison officer, explained that the Mopani District Municipality purchases the bulk water from Lepelle and then distributes it to the GLM who in turn distributes the water to their households.

We have issued a media enquiry to both the GLM and Lepelle to gain clarity on the situation or at the very least have an open channel of communication to the residents who currently do not know how to plan around the water shortages.

Funny story. I was shooting the Smirnoff 1818 Raga Bolo street soccer games in the township outside Polokwane over the weekend (don’t laugh, but the place’s name is Nobody - and it has a filling station “Total Nobody”).

Anyway, as is usually the case when you’re the only white boy at a Tavern in a township, you get the odd “hey Lekgoa” shouted at you. Having been around this block a few times in my career, I have learnt that the term is one of endearment rather than personal insult and so I just casually continue with my work.

And then one guy shouted “mlungu skyf” at me, upon which, another guy shouted back at him “learn some manners, you don’t speak to people that way”. That was surprising.

He then came and sat by me (William is his name) and we had a conversation, a really great conversation, and in between the smokes, the soccer and the Smirnoff, William asked me a few questions that made me realize something.

Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church Easter is upon us and it is a time for celebrating the fact that Jesus died for our sins. However, it is also a time to seriously think what price this was to pay. An innocent man was put to death in the cruellest way. In those days only the vilest of offenders were put to death in this manner. The only accusation that the Sadducees and Pharisees could come up with was hearsay, there were many other ways in which they could have dealt with this charge but they chose to crucify Him. They of course had put it to the crowd and they all shouted “Crucify Him” but they had been greatly influenced by the religious leaders. So the leaders could say they did not actually crucify Him but were carrying out the wishes of the people.

This happens also in today’s life, where leaders so influence the people who believe in them, that they do what is evil and unjust. Crime and corruption are rife in our land and we truly need to reassess our priorities. Are we Christians or are we only Christians in name. If our faith in Christ is strong we need to believe that these condition will change and South Africa will become a land of which we all can be proud of. For this to work many will have to change the way they think and do things. They need to consider the price Jesus was willing to pay for our sins, not for personal gain, but to show how much He loved the world, just as His Father did. I wonder how many of us would be prepared to offer up our life for someone else? I know that I would have to consider this prayerfully and ask God if this was part of His perfect plan or if I was doing this for my own fame and fortune.

Are we influenced by the world, or are we influenced by God? This is a question that only you personally can answer.

God knows your heart and knows how often you struggle with your faith, just as I do. We are not left alone in our struggles because we were given the Holy Spirit as our constant companion. All we need to do is to accept this gift from God. We need to strive to be more Christ-like to spread our love for others to all we come into contact with. We also need to forgive others for their mistakes and to confess that we need Christ in our lives-daily.

Are you willing to accept His grace? May you find the peace you are seeking and may God be respected and adored.

Enjoy your Easter, blessings from all of us.

A massive column of black smoke was seen billowing skyward on Tuesday afternoon which had residents in Park Street concerned. Bulletin took a drive to the site and found that a massive pile of motor vehicle tyres had been set alight in a section of the field behind the homes at Medi-park. This was the second time in two weeks that tyres had been set alight on this section of veld under the high voltage pylons behind the complex. It is a highly illegal practice and carries a very hefty fine should one be found guilty of the act. The Tzaneen dump site has specific manners in which to discard of used tyres and residents are urged to take these tyres to the dumpsite in order to avoid damage to surrounding flora and possibly homes within a built-up area.

The provincial police clean-up efforts around the Limpopo province is still gaining momentum as a number of arrests were made and contraband confiscated in various hotspots during the course of the last week.

In the Burgersfort Cluster within the Burgersfort Policing area ,18 suspects aged between 21 and 56 years were arrested for possession of dagga, illegal gambling, possession of suspected stolen properties, drunken driving, illegal immigration and selling of liquor without a license. During this operation, 15 spiral hotplate stoves, dagga and liquor were confiscated.

In the Lephalale Cluster within the Lephalale Policing area, five suspects aged between 28 and 46 years were arrested for illegal gambling, possession of drugs and dagga, and escaping from lawful custody. A number of gambling machines, drugs and dagga were confiscated.

Closer to home, in the Polokwane Cluster within the Lebowakgomo Policing area, two firearms were recovered after a house robbery, but the suspects are still on the run and the manhunt is still on.

Within the Jane Furse Policing area outside Lebowakgomo, 14 suspects were arrested for road traffic fines to the amount of R3 250.00, illegal trading and illegal immigration. The following items were confiscated: five Fruits of Eden Yogurts, two Southern Coating, two Nestlé Nestum baby cereal boxes, one Moirs Jelly and one Moirs Custard powder.

In the Mahwelereng Cluster within the Mokopane Policing area ,two suspects aged 23 and 25 years old were arrested at Sekgakgapeng Village for possession of suspected stolen property. A blue Compressor machine to the estimated value of R20 000 was recovered.

In the Makhado Cluster within the Musina Policing area, two suspects aged 22 and 31 years of age, were arrested on 19 counts of theft from motor vehicle. Two Mobicell cellphones, three knives and one pair of hand gloves were confiscated.

In the Tzaneen Cluster within the Ritavi Policing area, one suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen properties.

Netball played the Larrie way In preparation for the upcoming Super 12 tournament from 21 – 25 April, the netball teams from Laerskool Tzaneen Primary have been playing numerous matches against other schools as part of the stringent training regime since the start of February this year.

Laerskool Tzaneen Primary was invited to participate in the Primary Schools Netball Festival held on the courts at Ben Vorster High School during last week. Other participating schools included the primary schools of Mariepskop, Lydenburg, Laerskool Laeveld from Nelspruit, Pietersburg Oos and Middleburg Primary.

In total the Larrie girls played 20 matches, won 17 and lost three.

Their scores were as follows: u/10 won against LS Laeveld 6-1, won against LS Mariepskop

8-2, won against LS Pietersburg Oos A 10-8, won against LS Pietersburg Oos B 14-2 and won against LS Lydenburg 11-7. The u/11 girls won against LS Middelburg 12-3, won against LS Mariepskop 20-1, lost against LS Pietersburg-Oos 7-9, won against LS Lydenburg 9-4 and won against LS Laeveld 11-7.

Their u/12 teams lost against LS Pietersburg-Oos 11-20, won against Middelburg Primary 18-2, lost against LS Lydenburg 4-16, won against LS Mariepskop 16-2 and won against LS Laeveld 11-4.

Treverton offers season warmup During the annual Treverton College Sports Festival held in Mooi River earlier this month, Stanford Lake sent their senior teams of the three traditional sporting codes down to the Free State to participate.

The First team netball girls returned home without recording a single loss during the fourday festival,

while the rugby and hockey teams had to settle for a mixed result.

Of the sixteen games played over the course of the festival between the boys and girls hockey teams, the Stanfordians managed 10 wins, five losses and one draw. The rugby team started their campaign with a loss on the first day, but gained some momentum as the week progressed.

On the last day of their stay, Stanford recorded a win against the Peacanwood College from Pretoria.

“We regard this as great experience and preparation in the warmup to the start of our winter season,” said Rona McGaffin, media liaison for Stanford Lake. “We are excited to take on 2017 with the newly acquired skills we have gained from our participation in festivals such as the Treverton. We wish all our players good luck for the year ahead.”

Raga Bolo hits Nobody

The small township of Nobody, just outside Polokwane, hosted the second leg of the Smirnoff 1818 Raga Bolo District League playoffs this weekend. In true street soccer style, the arena this year represented all that is Raga Bolo.

Taverns and liquor outlets in townships all across the Limpopo province entered their teams throughout the year in a bid to be finalists in a competition that could see them win R150 000 at the National Playoffs in June this year.

At Nobody, there were eight teams on the day, including last year’s winners, Mam’s Tavern. The games were high-paced and fierce encounters between the teams of five-

a-side and featured some amazing footwork by the players. Some of the “older boys” relived their childhood dreams as they faced off against players a little more than half their age.

At the end of the day, the scores were tallied and the teams now have an idea of what is needed from them to make it to the provincial finals. Only two teams will go through to face the winners of the Nelspruit league and claim a spot in the nationals.

Raga Bolo will see its final round of play in Polokwane on the first weekend in May. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com
