A Democratic Alliance councillor was warned to stay out of Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s Ward 13 or she will be dealt with. This emerged during a council meeting on the 2nd of November. UPDATE:

with regards to the water shortage experienced in their ward. She also assisted with voter-registration issues. Pohl said that many of the residents she spoke to, told her that though they are experiencing hardships as a result of having to push wheelbarrows over long distances to collect water, they were too afraid to complain to their local ward councillor. According to them, the councillor was born and bred in the ward and they therefore fear him. After hearing countless stories of having to push wheelbarrows over long distances to collect water from another village, or having to purchase water from the nearby Muslim Mosque, Pohl approached the councillor, Edward Ngobeni who in turn denied that there were any water problems in his ward. A few minutes before entering council chambers at the GTM for the Council meeting, Pohl alleged that Ngobeni approached her and told her repeatedly not to enter his ward. Pohl retorted by highlighting that it is within her rights to conduct visits into the wards. Ngobeni allegedly threatened to “burn” her and walked back to his seat in the chambers. Once seated she alleged that he pointed a finger at her and in a raised voice repeated his warning, “do not come to my ward, I am warning you!” Chapter 2, of the Constitution in section 19 (1) on Political Rights states that every citizen is free to make political choices, including the right to participate in the activities of, or recruit members for a political party, and to campaign for a political party or cause. In accordance to this, Councillor Pohl has opened a criminal case against Ngobeni.

“This will send a strong message that the DA will not tolerate any form of intimidation,” she said. “Ward councillors are key players and must allow for cooperation, open communication, accountability, accessibility, impartiality as well as display personal integrity which is clearly not taking place in Ward 13. The DA is fully committed to bring about change by taking action, thus protecting the community. Immoral conduct only leaves residents frustrated and angry.”

Hub still in the planning phase

Bulletin is still no closer to obtaining any details pertaining to the actual launch of the intended Moshupatsela Agri-hub project at the old Bali farm outside Tzaneen. Two months ago we reported that the dilapidated Mopani District Municipality’s farm next to the R71, would be reborn into a bustling hub of agricultural enterprise aimed at developing the local emerging farmers and boosting the economy. Spokesperson for the MDM, Witness Tiva, could not provide Bulletin with a date at which this project is set to launch as he explained that the project is still in the planning phase. According to Tiva the project is a joint venture between the MDM and the National Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and currently all avenues are being looked at before setting a specific commencement date. In the meantime, we have received reports

from local farmers in the area who claim that a woman who has been living on the farm for a number of years, has started harvesting the mangoes this past week. According to these reports, the woman is very well known among the locals and each year she employs labourers from the area to help harvest the fruit on this state-owned farm. “On more than one occasion she has proclaimed that farm to be her land and is often rather aggressive towards those who enter the gates and confront her about the harvesting of the mangoes. She has said on a few occasions that the farm and the mangoes are hers to sell.” We asked Tiva about the mysterious woman but he claimed that he was not aware of the situation. He did however state that the land belongs to the state and that they would investigate the matter and deal with any trespassers

accordingly. He also promised us feedback on the plans for the close on 81 families currently squatting on the grounds, but at the time of going to print we had received no word from his office. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

*Editor’s note: Rather remarkably though, the rickety signpost erected at the entrance gates in order to proclaim the grand venture, has withstood some of the first heavy rains and accompanying strong winds. We are however still not sure of the whereabouts of the R2.1 million palisade fence allegedly erected around the property in February this year, but hold fast to the belief that it does indeed exist and provides a strong deterrent to trespassers. Much the same as the unnameable security guards which have been appointed at the site.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality has, during a special sitting of the council, sworn in its former speaker as a new councillor. The move was well received by councillors from the ANC. Though the municipal officials were coy about the new developments, the move is said to have been influenced by the provincial office of the ANC. Percy Machete who hails from the Bolobedu in the GTM, was an employee of the Department of Labour in Tzaneen and also served as the secretary for the Mark Shoppe sub-region of the ANC. After being appointed as a councillor in the 2011 local government elections, he

was appointed as the speaker of the GTM until he was removed during a reshuffle in 2013. After the 2016 elections he could not be retained. A councillor who could not be named, said that the build up to the sitting started with a caucus of the ruling party that lasted for more than three hours at the council chambers on Wednesday. The decision to appoint a proportional councillor lies with the party that wishes to make changes to their representatives in the council. According to the Municipal Structures Act, when a PR councillor is elected, the party should forward the candidate’s name, while in the case of a ward council-

lor, there should be by-elections. After the meeting of the ANC caucus, other meetings continued where lobbying took an overdrive prior to the council sitting which was set for the following day. In a surprise move the vehicle of the mayor of Ba-Pahalaborwa and ANC Mopani Regional chairperson Pule Shai, was seen at the Tzaneen Mall Total fuelling station with body guards at 19:00 that evening. This was followed by the arrival of the Tzaneen Mayor, Maripe Mangena’s entourage at the same fuelling station just after 21:00 the same day. — Jan Mafetsa

Negligence claims baby’s life Mighty Baloyi was 18-months old when he died last week Saturday. The toddler fell down a borehole on his family’s property in Joppe Village in Nwamitwa, sometime during Saturday afternoon and subsequently died after having been trapped down the hole for more than two days. His body was removed on Monday. According to reports the borehole pit which claimed this young toddler was uncovered and unused after no water was discovered when they first drilled at the site. The site, was also situated on the same stand as the home where Mighty lived. The reason for this according to the Mopani District Municipality’s Mayor, Nkakareng Rakgoale, is to prevent the theft of the municipality’s equipment. “The decision was taken to say that let’s throw these kinds of boreholes in the yard so that we don’t have the challenge of the borehole machines being stolen,” Rakgoale proclaimed on live television. When asked why these boreholes were not covered up when no water was discovered, Rakgoale, shifted the blame to the contractors and said that investigations must no determine the reasons behind this. “We will have to make sure that an investigation takes place for us to get into the bottom of what really happened. As I’ve said, it’s a procedure that if you don’t find water, you must

GTM opens case against Copper Five

The GTM has registered a case of attempted theft with the SAPS in Tzaneen following the apprehension of five municipal employees two weekends ago. The five employees who are allegedly employed in the Electrical Engineering Department at the municipality, are being investigated for their alleged involvement in copper theft. The investigating officer in the case is a Constable Ngobeni and the case number is CAS11/11/2018 with the official charge being “attempted theft at power station”. Spokesperson for the GTM, Neville Ndlala confirmed this, but did not want to divulge any further information and instead referred us to the police station. We sent an enquiry to the SAPS spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, for comment but he referred us to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo as he was on leave. To date, we still have no information as to where these five employees were caught, which power station was damaged as a result of the theft or whether they are being investigated for stealing copper cabling or damaging a transformer for the copper coils contained inside. We don’t know why the police officers who arrived on the scene never made any arrests

There are only a couple of days remaining until the deadline for a response by the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality to a memorandum handed to mayor Pule Shayi by his ratepayers. At the time of going to print this week, George Hepburn, chairperson of the Phalaborwa Rate Payers Association, confirmed that he has heard nothing but deafening silence from within the halls of the big brown building in the centre of town. Whether the municipality will once again fail to meet their deadline remains to be seen. In the meantime, the DA’s Member of Parliament, Desireé van der Walt has taken the plight of the Phalaborwa residents to Cape Town. This week she collected completed petition forms containing 2 246 signatures, and two bound books comprising all the letters written by school children begging their mayor for water. These documents flew with her to parliament on Tuesday morning where she presented them to the minister in the hopes that the plight of the Phalaborwa residents will now finally be highlighted and acted upon accordingly. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

or opened a docket for investigation. According to a message received from the municipal manager, Thapelo Matlala, who had followed up on this with his head of security, the police officers said that the stolen copper was on the municipality’s property and therefore could not open a case. Why the municipality only laid charges with the SAPS following pressure by this newspaper and the DA’s Member of Parliament, Desiree van der Walt, is also not clear. We have enquired about the allegations that one of the suspects is a family member of a senior GTM manager, but Ndlala has said that the municipality carries no knowledge of this. He further said that the five have been issued with notices of the intent to suspend them, pending investigations. Whether they have in the meantime been suspended also remains unknown. It is no secret that the areas around Tzaneen have fallen prey to frequent, often daily power supply interruptions because of various factors including copper theft and vandalism at the sub-stations. Copper theft is considered a very serious crime as it viewed as an act of terror. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

The bakkie-taxis under the spotlight There is currently a prevailing tendency among bakkie-drivers to load all their employees onto the back of the vehicle and give them a ride into town from the industrial area. This practice is not only extremely dangerous, but also illegal –

or is it? There has been a massive debate among road users regarding the law on transportation of people in the goods department of a vehicle. The confusion surrounds semantics. In May 2017 it officially became illegal to transport children in the goods compartment of any vehicle (this refers to the back of bakkies or other goods vehicles) like the boot of a car, hatchback or minibus for a reward.

We counted 16 passengers!

Emphasis in that sentence should be placed on the word “reward” meaning payment. This means that people can still be transported in the goods departments if they don’t actually pay the driver a fee, or if the driver has a permit to do so. The driver has to apply and pay for a permit to do so in compliance with the National Land Transport Act. This law was instated to prevent the number of road deaths of school children being transported to and from school on the back of bakkies. But it does get tricky.

The National Road Traffic Regulation 250 states that “No person shall on a public road carry any person for reward in the goods compartment of a motor vehicle”. No person shall on a public road convey school children in the goods compartment of a motor vehicle for reward. No person shall convey any other person in the goods compartment of a motor vehicle for reward: provided that the provisions of this sub-regulation shall not apply in respect of a vehicle which complies with the provisions of the NLTA.” This sub-regulation, regulation 247 contemplates the circumstances under which persons may be transported in the goods compartment of a vehicle. “No person shall operate on a public road, a goods vehicle conveying persons unless that portion of the vehicle in which such persons are being conveyed is enclosed to a height of at least 350 millimetres above the surface upon which such person is seated; or at least 900 millimetres above the surface on which such person is standing, in a manner and with a material of sufficient strength to prevent such person from falling from such vehicle when it is in motion.” So, whether it is safe practice or not, remains up for debate. Overloading your bakkie to the point where the tailgate scrapes on the tarmac however, is illogical and should not be allowed. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

Tragic accident claims dad’s life A young man from Tzaneen died tragically in a motorcycle accident on Saturday evening. It is reported that Wilhelm Loubser (33) was traveling on his Honda motorcycle along the Politsi Deerpark road when it appears as though he lost control over the motorcycle and crashed through a T-junction barrier after the Visagie Sawmills. According to reports he had been to a friend’s home to pick up the motorcycle at around 19:00 that evening. This was the last time anyone would see him alive. It is also said that at around 20:30 that evening a member of his family tried to contact him, but his phone rang unanswered. Witnesses say that this section of the road is notorious for accidents. They say that at night, the road markings are not clearly visible and there is no indication of a T-junction approaching. “He was not from the area and had not been living here long, so it makes sense to me that he was unfamiliar with the road. It

Takeaway Special

is very sad because in my opinion, if there had been better road markings, to warn road users of the approaching intersection, he most probably would have slowed down in time,” said Gerhard Botha, a member of the Letsitele CPF who came across the accident scene. “It was around 09:00 that following morning (Sunday) when my wife and I were returning from Mooketsi and we stopped at the Politsi bridge to have a look at the dam. We then drove back onto the Deerpark Road and when we past Visagie Sawmills I saw a group of onlookers at the T-junction who flagged us down. I climbed out to investigate and saw the black motorbike down on the other side of the road. I informed the emergency services who arrived on the scene. It looks to me personally as though the motorcyclist realized the T-junction too late and then put his bike down but was flung into and under the barriers. It is very sad.” Loubser is survived by his wife, three young children of which the youngest is two years of age, his parents and four siblings. We spoke to his mom, Ragel Marx, to find out the details around her son’s memorial service. The family is originally from Mooi Nooi in the North West and though the arrangements for his service have not yet been finalised, she did confirm that it will be held on Monday, 12th of November in his hometown. — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

Premier and spokesperson lock horns zzas i P e g r y 2 La EE 1l Coke n a y u B t a FR e g d n a

Big on Family. Big on Pizza.

Phuti Seloba, the spokesperson for the office of the Premier had by Tuesday not yet resigned after he was served with a letter of intent to suspend him. The letter which was precipitated by the social media leak by the provincial chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Jossey Buthani, detailed that the Premier sometimes misses meetings for which accommodation was organised in advance. The social media posts by Buthane had for some time been in the public domain until Seloba approached the Limpopo High Court to force Buthane to delete the post. The court however dismissed the application with costs. This was followed by the letter of suspension requesting that he furnish the employer with reasons why he should not suspended. Seloba responded to

the letter. Buthane in his messages alleged that Seloba approached him with information that the Premier went on an international trip with a bodyguard but when he was to board a connecting flight the bodyguard was nowhere to be seen which constitutes wasteful expenditure and misappropriation of funds. The Premier’s spokesperson Kenny Mathivha confirmed that Seloba has replied to the letter intending to suspend him. “Yes he made representations through his lawyers but the matter has not been finalised. It is said that the lawyers had a problem with the wording of the letter as the reasons for the suspensions were not offered to Seloba.” Buthane in his affidavit said that it was the first time he raised the issues.

“I spoke about this information in the provincial legislature during the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in the presence of the Premier and it was not denied. Even in 2018 the matter was raised and it was not denied.” This comes in the wake of the ANC finalising the provincial conference for the 2019 cabinet positions. Seloba confirmed that he has replied to the letter. “I challenge the accusers to come clean. I am dealing with a bunch of people conniving against me. I needed this investigation a long time ago and it came at the right time. There is no logic in the suspension and I will fight this possible suspension. I responded because I believe that the media statement issued was a smear and defamatory. — Jan Mafetsa

Phalaborwa Masons bring teddy cheer Last Saturday, 3rd of November, was National Children’s Day all across South Africa. The reason you most likely were not aware of this is because despite the first Saturday of November declared an official observance by the South African government to raise public awareness of the rights of every child, the government hasn’t planned any special events for children to enjoy their proclaimed holiday. This alone highlights the problem with priorities in South Africa as the government would much rather spend billions on lavish election campaigns than pay attention to the killing of our children, our future. One organization, the Freemasons, has again shown their support to the growing of the awareness regarding this epidemic and, in a bid to show some small token of love, spent their Saturday at the embattled Maphutha Malatji hospital outside Phalaborwa. Brothers from Phalaborwa Lodge 8120 EC delivered teddy bears to the children at this institution which has come under fire recently for the unimaginable infant mortality rate recorded there by the DA’s inspection team. “To aid in this initiative Masonic Lodges from all over South Africa visited a Children’s Hospital, Home or Sanctuary of their choice to hand a Teddy Bear to kids who are not at home on their special day – a proud reflection of a Masonic credo Freemasonry Cares,” the fraternity said in a press statement. “This is not seen to be a once-off initiative and numerous mechanisms are being established to extend the Teddy Bear initiative to an annual event and possibly a permanent feature is some of the dedicated Childrens Hospitals.” Freemasonry is the oldest, largest and most widely recognized fraternal organization in the world - it is also undeniably the world’s oldest “Social Network”. The first Grand Lodge was founded in London, England in 1717 and its current worldwide membership totals over 6-million. The Order has been active in South Africa since 1800 and currently has well over 200 Lodges spread across all the Provinces extending from Musina to Cape Town and from Ma-

Maphutah Malatji Hospital CEO, Rebecca Peta, Information officer, Patience Mabaso, Wor. Bro. Alan Reid (PDistSGW), Wor. Bro. Chris Viljoen (PDistJGD), Wor. Bro. hikeng to Nelspruit. Swaziland, Botswana and Mauritius fall under the same District structure. As a fraternal organization, they “unite men of good character who share a belief in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of mankind,” although members are of different religious, ethnic or social backgrounds. The traditions of the organization are founded upon the building of King Solomon’s temple. Its fraternal ceremonies use the working tools of stonemasons to symbolize moral lessons and truths. Membership is not meant to interfere with an individual’s commitment to his faith, family or occupation and is seen as a positive environment that reminds every Mason of his duty to God, community, family and himself. Part of the community involvement spreads into benevolence and charity. Between the six Districts in SA, the amounts which accumulate to over R50 million has been distributed to numerous charitable institutions in the last 12 years. The Hall gets revamped The Haenertsburg Village Hall was called the Agricultural Hall when it was built in 1952. The Hall belongs to the village community and is maintained by a committee. The revamping of the Hall began a month ago. Acting Chairman Lawrence Rupp said wood borer was discovered and it was hard work for all involved to get the Hall ready for Friday evening’s social. Many older folk came to see what had been done to their Hall and the younger generation had a wonderful time dancing, thanks to sound man Ruan Snyman, on that well-sprung floor that is still to be sanded. The interior is absolutely stupendous now. Mariesa Coetzee was responsible for the painting and the colour on the walls is a light pearl gray, the ceiling is light bringing the beautiful wrought iron chandelier made by local craftsman Francois Liebenberg to the fore, the pub area has been changed to allow for more space behind the bar, the fireplace area has been addressed with the wall painted by Hannelie Mitchell creating the illusion of pine trees in the mist. The maroon stage curtains will be used

to recover the sofas at the fireplace. The removal of the wood paneling on the stage has made a huge difference and instead of heavily draped curtains, there are fairy lights. Neil Mitchell has been responsible for all the electrics. There is still quite a bit of electrical work left to do as the system harked back to the days when the Hall was built. The light colours now give the illusion of space, height and light. Locals Ed Hillary and Mara Hermann made brief speeches thanking all involved in this major project. Treasurer Michelle Hughes says, “It took fourand-a-half years to raise the funding needed for this project. We’ve currently run out of funds as we’re not yet finished. The floor still has to be sanded and there are a few more problems that need to be addressed. ”

The Message

Granny’s Grumbles - Teenagers

Any parent who has raised a couple of teenagers will tell you that it is heavy going. In fact by the time I got to my fourth I really wondered why nobody had come up with the idea of freezing them and then thawing them out when they had finished with their teens. I had two boys and then two girls. The boys generally speaking did a lot of stupid things which created problems, but it didn’t appear that they actually disliked me. The girls were a totally different kettle of fish. It really didn’t matter what I did– I was either embarrassing them or was “not like other mothers”. The eldest one – Bernadette – was given her brother’s 50cc motorbike when he left home and she travelled everywhere on it. At that particular time of our marriage my husband was an oupa appie or adult apprentice which meant that his salary was frozen for three years. Since finances were strained I sold plants from home over the weekend to bring in a bit of much-needed money. To be honest I loved working with plants and spending Saturday under a shady tree in the backyard taking cuttings and germinating seeds was not all that bad. I remember well – it was a cold winter’s morning and I was sitting on

my tree stump in an old track suit and communing with nature when the telephone rang. It was Bernadette – could I come to town immediately – her motor-bike wouldn’t start, so she needed me with the bakkie to get it home. Being a good mom I was there in two ticks – the motorbike was parked in a loading zone near to a bank and I had to make a plan to get it into the back of the bakkie. Neither of us was very strong but eventually with much pushing and shoving we managed to get the front wheel up onto the tailgate. Bernadette then got up into the back and started pulling while I tried to pick up the back wheel. It was just touching the floor at the back when my daughter rather hysterically yelled “Quick, quick – get into the cab”. I obediently leapt into the cab although I didn’t have any idea why?? Eventually she told me I could come out and we would finish positioning the motorbike for the trip home. Upon querying why I had been instructed to hide in the cab it transpired that her maths teacher had just walked out of the bank. “And so?” “You look a real mess Mom – I didn’t want him to see you in that grotty old tracksuit and takkies” To say I was annoyed is putting it somewhat mildly – I had filth on my tracksuit from the tyres and a bleeding hand from losing my grip when my darling told me to move and she then had the audacity to be ashamed of me. There was a deadly hush on the way home and I told her to get her father to help her get the bike off when he got home! A year later the younger one had entered her teens and she was obviously going to start young. When we left for our annual trek to Durbs we left very early – usually about 4 a.m. and then stopped at an Ultra City for breakfast and coffee I did not like the coffee that was served at the Ultra City restaurants so told my husband that I was going to take my own. Cindy wanted to know how I was going to organise a cup of my own coffee without a vacuum flask. Upon realising that I intended taking it into the restaurant and merely asking for boiling water and milk, she objected strongly by saying that everybody would then know we were Vaalies What on

earth did she mean? Evidently a Natal girl who had recently arrived at her school had said people at the coast thought visitors from Transvaal were strange – they stuck plastic oranges on the end of their car aerials, sat in the rain at the beach and generally stuck out like sore thumbs. When we stopped for breakfast the two girls headed for the toilets and only reappeared after we had placed our order. The offending Nescafe bottle had to be kept hidden from sight! The next morning we were going to meet some old Rhodesian friends on the beach outside the flats – there was a light mizzle but plenty of normal Durban humidity so I assumed we would be rushing down to the sea and sand. Not my youngest daughter who said we were now acting like the average Vaalie and she didn’t want to be considered part of that. It got worse – since my hobby was visiting nurseries (and buying plants) it appeared that this might also be construed as being “strange”. On the day of our departure we had over a hundred plants to pack – it wasn’t really a problem since we had an old Kombi and there were only four of us. Cindy had the one full seat and her older sister had half a seat behind her. However we overnighted in Louis Trichardt with some old friends who had a farm and who were gracious enough to dig up half their garden for me. When we left the following morning the two were sharing one seat with half the foot space taken up by plastic bags full of soil and plants. There was much whining and whingeing coming from the back and after a short while my husband gave me a nudge and a wink and asked about the laying hens that I’d ordered from some place near Mooketsi. The reaction from the back was immediate. Since I had often spoken of my wish to have laying hens this was accepted by my two darlings who wanted to know – sarcastically – how we intended to transport them since there was hardly any space. Easy! Their legs get tied together and we put them under your seat said their father. There was a deafening silence until we were about 50km from Phalaborwa and one of them asked when we were getting to the chicken farm. Oh dear – we must have missed it!

Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church READINGS: Genesis 1:1-8

God’s gift to us. In the beginning there was nothing. Yes darkness. Now this was what was in the beginning of the world. Darkness. “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Genesis 1:2 God in His perfect plan had decided to create the earth. If a sculptor or a painter decides to create a new work of art, they take the raw materials available and start moulding them into some sort of shape. They work continuously on this piece and stand back and examine it. If they are not happy with what they see the either discard it or destroy it. This why I say God in His perfect plan created the earth. He did not make something and then destroy it or remould it, as it was perfect. Now there are other theories as to how the world was formed. People refer to the “Big Bang Theory” that somehow or the other there was a big explosion and the world was formed. Now I query this as how did light come about, how did the plants and the waters become separated and many more questions? Genesis 1: 3 “ And God said: Let there be light and there was light” This I can believe because there was actually a Creator and just not some sort of theory. As God creates all the other things mentioned in Genesis it is mentioned that God looked at each part and “it was good”. Although it is not actually mentioned God also created time, this we can deduct from the saying “the first day” However, with God it cannot be said that He created light and separated it from the darkness in what we know as one day. It could have taken a few moments or a longer period of time, because with God time holds no relevance. Have you looked up at the sky at night and tried to count the stars? An impossible task yet God created all these stars. As we read through the story of creation we find all the wondrous gifts God gave us, special gifts, the land, the sea, the sky, the plants, the animals. Gifts that we as mankind often abuse. Seldom seeing the true beauty of God’s creation. God’s greatest gift to us was when He created us, for not only did He create us but He created us in His own image. V 27. “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” He did not only create us but He went a step further and He blessed us and gave us the power to procreate, He also gave us dominion over all of His creation. V28. God blessed them and said to them ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground. What an amazing gift, the power and the right to do this. If Genesis was just a fairy tale, why is it mentioned in the New Testament, especially in John 1: 1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” Now John was referring to Jesus at the time but he mentions “In the beginning” So as we look at the story of creation we can see that the Trinity was there from the beginning. God the Father and Creator, His Son Jesus, the Word and the Spirit v1… and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. We need to believe that God has a perfect plan for each and every one of us. He created us just like He created the earth. His perfect gift to us.

Badgers howl at Drakensberg moon

T e a m Ubuntu had a slow start but managed to make up time during the night with some quality navigation. Team Tshanduko were just as solid with their navigation, and showed some great teamwork throughout the race. Both teams had to dig deep in the heat and challenging terrain, finishing four minutes apart in a really impressive time of 14 hours and 30 minutes. Well done to all Stanfordians – Casper Venter, David Pullinger, Danica Altenroxel, Reuben Middleton, Lara Dando, Jarred Gosling, Herman Fourie, Marthinus Maritz and Llewllyn Rogers for completing this tough race. Team Red Ants took a third place in 11 hours and 45 minutes, and a fourth spot in the overall series.

This past weekend saw four SLC Adventure Racing Teams take part in the Drakensberg Full Moon 120km race. Despite being in the mountains and at altitude, the demanding route and navigation were made more challenging by the high temperatures. The field was made up of 60 teams and the competition was tight as a number of teams were vying for overall winner of both the A1 and Kinetic Adventure Series. Stanford Lake College’s Team Red Ants, which both Mr Fullard and Mr Willson, as well as Alumnus, Brian Gardner race for, also lined up in the extremely competitive field, as did Llewellyn Rogers along with his dad. Teams are made up of either mixed fours or pairs. From the start the pace was insanely fast and many teams battled to stay with the main field, which soon splintered into the first kayak-run-kayak leg. This leg was followed by a quick Stand-Up Paddle, and then a 60km mountain bike route and 28km run through the mountains at night, in the light of the full moon.

A Flying start Marthinus Maritz, Jason Freestone and Christian Schmidt were selected as part of the Final 16 fishermen for the South African Schools Fly Fishing trials to be held in January 2019. Marthinus already received his SA Colours for this sport

earlier this year. Seen here are the Stanford Lake College Fly Fishing Club with their Headmaster. Back: Christian Schmidt, Lloyd Lombard, Gavin Knott, Marthinus Maritz, Jason Freestone, Mitchell Lamb and Mr Carolan. Front: Luke Wood and Heinrich Maritz.

Stanfordians in Durban Two of the most outstanding cricketers in the Badgers Squad were selected to represent the U/17 Limpopo Cricket team during the inter-provincials in December. Lance Trueman and Junior Netshituni will be in action on the ovals in Durban during the coming holidays.

Blikkies Groenewald was ‘n hoërskool onderwyser in Pretoria waar

Raubenheimer claims 2018 Motocross crown The 2018 Limpopo Motocross Championship has come to an end and riders from Phalaborwa’s Selati Club performed exceptionally well with many of them landing the top spots on the log. During the season a total of six races were held of which two were in Polokwane, two in Nelspruit and two in Phalaborwa. These races attracted some strong competition from across the country with riders from Polokwane, Nelspruit, Phalaborwa, Gauteng and Swaziland battling out

in the dirt for the number one spot on the grid. The last race was held at Manna Motocross Track in Nelspruit on the 27th October and was followed by a prize giving. Phalaborwa’s boisterous brotherly duo, Brendan and Donovan Raubenheimer showed each other no mercy during the season but finally ended their rivalry with younger brother Donovan being crowned as the MX3 Class Series Champ for 2018. eerste hokkiewedstryd en die heel eerste keer dat hulle op ‘n astrobaan uitgedraf het. “Dit was lekker dankie ouens, maar ek sal nie weer dink dis ‘n glybaan nie,” het Corrie Large Junior na die wedstryd gesê. “Ons moet dit verseker meer gereeld doen,” het Stephen Cremore bygelas. Die wedstryd het drie elk geëindig en die wis-
