Yet another Ba-Phalaborwa school has had to shut its doors due to a positive Covid-19 case. Sebalamakgolo High School in Namakgale closed on Tuesday after a teacher tested positive for the virus. Last week Mashishimale Primary School, had to close its doors for a week after one of its staff members tested positive. It has since reopened its doors on Monday, the 13th of July, after fumigations were conducted. The Provincial Department of Education Spokesperson, Tidi Chuene, said that Sebalamakgolo High School was closed for disinfection and would reopen on Monday, the 21st of July. The spokesperson acknowledged that some schools were still waiting for the construction of toilets, however the department was supplying ablution facilities to those schools. “The Department follows strict protocols in line

with our standard operating procedures to ensure that learners and other members of the school community are safe at all times. We have provided enough health and hygiene essentials and continue to work with the national department of Basic Education on augmenting the supply of water and temporary ablution facilities for schools that are still waiting for construction of toilets,” stated Chuene. Chuene told Bulletin that concerned parents who are struggling to come to terms with their children returning to school could opt for the option of home education, which may take up to 30 days for applications to be processed. The Department of Health Provincial Spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana, said that he could not state how many teachers and/or learners were infected as the department did not profile patients according to their professions and their places of work. “It will be difficult to single out schools and

the number of teachers. Also, we desist from profiling patients due to issues of stigma hence our figures only mention local municipality not specific villages, surbubs or townships,” stated Shikwambana. Shikwambana also said that the current trends in as far as Covid-19 statistics are concerned, are clear that the virus is now almost everywhere in the province. “So, if there is a time for heeding the call to take precautionary measures is now. Wearing of masks, washing of hands, sanitizing, and maintaining social distancing should be practiced religiously by all,” concluded the provincial spokesperson. In Tzaneen, Ben Vorster High School was closed for the week after a learner allegedly tested positive for Covid-19. The school issued a notice over their social pages which confirmed that they would shut their doors temporarily from the 14th of July, Monday until today, 17th of July.

Firefighters had their hands full when they battled fires at both Phalaborwa and Grietjie Private Nature Reserve over the weekend. A thatched roof lapa at one of the homes in Molengraaff Street in Phalaborwa was razed to the ground after a fire which reportedly started around the corner of Molengraaff and Theiler Streets made its way to the home. The wind played a major role in aggravating the fire which was extinguished at around 18:30 whilst another fire was flaring up a few kilometers away at the Grietjie Private Nature Reserve (GPNR) which

If it is not electioneering ahead of the 2022 local government elections which will be met with the great depression set to hit the country as result of the lockdown, the government is planning on extending the Basic Income Grant (BIG) of R350 to permanency. It will cover the ages of 18 to 59. This follows calls from the labour union, Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) that the government should come up with a basic income grant to fight poverty among the unemployed. Though the call was rejected by the government for many years, it received attention when President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced the scheme after the level five hard lockdown in May. After the announcement by the president, COSATU and the South

African Communist Party (SACP) who are members of the Tripartate Alliance with the ruling ANC, called on the government to make the basic income grant a permanent feature in which people who would had lost their jobs would be eligible to receive their monthly R350. On Tuesday, the Social Development minister, Lindiwe Zulu, said that though it will not be implemented soon, it had been brought to table for deliberations. “There are quite a number of things that we need to do and systems that we need to put in place to make sure that it covers the correct people. The BIG will simplify coverage and ease of grant administration, granted that our social security grant does not permit universal coverage, the current proposal will help realise the government`s broader social security reform environment.”

According Nowak the cause of the fire was due to Eksom’s overhead lines that had too much slack in the cables. He said that heavy winds on excess of 40 kilometres per hour caused the cables to sway and touch each other, causing sparks to shoot into the dry grass below. “A rapid response from management, landowners and neighbouring reserves helped to prevent the fire from escalating into a major disaster. We would like to thank our landowners and neighbours for their excellent response to the fire,” continued Nowak also commending how the great turnout helped to prevent the fire from continuing east towards the Kruger National Park.

charred more than 800 Hectares of land. In both instances it is unknown what started the fires, but speculations were that the fire at the reserve could have been started by a spark from an electrical powerline. Both volunteers and firefighters in the Reserve and surrounding areas battled strong winds that kept fueling the fire. In a statement issued by the Head Warden of GPNR and Bulele Nature Reserve, Ian Nowak, no homes or infrastructure was lost in the fire and a total area of 824 hectares of land was burned. Of this, 522 hectares was burned on GPNR and the remainder was on the surrounding areas of Balule.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) has joined the other parties such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) and One South Africa Movement (OSAM) led by the former leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Mmusi Maimane, in the call for the closure of the schools. This according to the group, until the country crosses the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the government is adamant that schools should not close and people should be adaptive. The largest labour union in the country and also an affiliate of the Tripartate Alliance said that they have met with their employer, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, to deliberate on what should be done. The teachers’ union said that evidence on the ground shows that there is no effective learning and teaching at schools currently.

Stand van Damme Dam Levels

This follows after SADTU held a National Executive Committee meeting to open the way forward. Its resolution that schools should close was allegedly informed by the peak during the winter months which they claimed effectively causes a spike in infections. SADTU general secretary Mugwena Maluleke said the union had written a letter to Motshekga and expected to engage with her and present a plan on what should be done when the schools had closed. Meanwhile, Maimane said that he was set on going to court to force schools to close as protests by members of his party was described as politicking for his new party. “If we need to take the matter to the highest court we shall do so. We took the matter to court and now we should take the next level.” However, Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize said that people should learn to live with the disease and adapt to the situation.

Full taxis but no booze allowed ■

Joe Dreyer

On Sunday evening the income of hundreds of South Africans was mercilessly ripped from the chest of an economy already in its death throws. President Ramaphosa, with his reintroduction of the alcohol prohibition, effectively placed the future of thousands of South African Breweries employees and retailer store owners and their staff in peril. Bulletin spoke to two owners of local liquor stores who both expressed concern over not only their own livelihood, but that of their staff. A source has told Bulletin that SA Breweries local branch has already lost six people to retrenchment with more expected. President Cyril Ramaphosa reinstated the alcohol ban on Sunday evening. Nationally the

brewer has said the ban will place considerable strain on its operations which resulted in the destruction of millions of litres of its products during the first round of the prohibition. Ramaphosa blamed his citizens for this ban, claiming that the ban was reinstituted because of the sharp increase in alcohol-related accidents and injuries which has added strain to the health care system. This despite in the same breath announcing that his government has procured an extra 28 000 beds for Covid-19 patients and over 37 000 quarantine beds were ready for the expected tsunami of infections. He also boasted that 1 700 ventilators had been sourced with a further 12 000 being produced by South African companies. South Africa’s state of disaster has been extended once more until the 15th of August and with it, some new regulations to “curb the spread of the disease”. The regulations include the implementation of an Apartheid -style curfew from 21:00 to 04:00 where you will require a permit if stopped by patrolling police to prove that you have a valid reason to be out during the restricted time frame.

You will not be allowed to visit your family, but you will be allowed to go out to restaurants and casinos with strangers in a fully loaded taxi - provided the windows are kept open. Ramaphosa said that taxis who conduct long distance commutes will be permitted 70% load capacity while taxis who operate locally will be permitted to operate at full capacity if the windows of the taxi are kept open. This despite it currently being in the middle of winter. Surprisingly, he announced that ministers and deputy ministers will be dispatched to districts around the country to ensure that local municipalities receive the necessary backup to deal with the Covid-19 crisis. This statement proved the DA’s claims of a “District Political Champion” programme and that potential move by the ANC to establish district command councils which could lead to the eradication of local elections. “This will essentially make the ANC election-proof should they succeed,” said Cilliers Brink, the DA MP who uncovered the controversial SA Economic Recovery Plan for Municipalities manuscript which was marked “Top Secret”.

SANParks confirms staff living in tourist accommodation ■

Joe Dreyer

Last week, Bulletin reported that Kruger National Park employees were residing in the rest camps, particularly at the popular Letaba Rest Camp, during the Covid-19 lockdown period. We suggested that this may be a plausible explanation as to the decision by SANParks to suspend all their overnight bookings for July. Soon after publishing the article, we received a communique from SANParks acting head of communications, Rey Thakhuli who accused us of not allowing SANParks time to respond to the matter – this despite our journalist attempting to contact their spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla for comment two days before publication. Thakhuli issued what appeared to be a generic response to the Bulletin article in which they confirmed that staff members were being housed in tourism facilities to prevent cross-contamination. This according to SANParks Chief Executive Officer, Fundisile Mketeni, who said this included arrangement of temporary accommodation for staff living within the living quarters in various national parks. “The reality is that all sectors of society have a contribution to make in curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic – and this includes implementing extraordinary measures.” Mketeni stated, to this end, with the introduction of a lockdown, SANParks as with many other employers encouraged most employees to work from home and only a limited number remained in various parks as part of essential services. These included rangers, anti-poaching officials,

FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA

and infrastructure maintenance personnel. To reduce cross contamination risks amongst staff residing in the parks, some staff members have been temporarily accommodated in a portion of tourism facilities in a number of national parks.” This situation has provided an opportunity to carry out much needed maintenance and improvements to staff accommodation he added. Mketeni concluded by stating these unusual circumstances of staff being accommodated in tourist facilities has no bearing on overnight facilities in the national parks remaining closed. “The Parks are unable to open to overnight visitors due to the fact that leisure tourism is not yet permitted under Level 3 Lockdown,” concluded Mketeni. Bulletin wanted more clarity on the matter and so we issued a second inquiry to both Thakhuli and Phaahla. In our inquiry we wanted to know how many staff members were being housed in the camps, how many camps were repurposed, how many staffers, if any, were tested and if so, were there any positive cases. We also wanted to know about the movement of the staff members housed inside the KNP, more specifically whether they were being supplied food and other resources and whether these measures could affect the safety of the day visitors. Our inquiry was simply met with “you are quoting reliable sources in your badly written article and stated that we have suspended the July bookings due to staff leaving [sic] in tourist accommodation – a fact you are now denying.

Please consider our statement released to you as our response as we do not see how responding to the below questions is going to help. You have already taken a position on how you view this matter which we elect not to dignify with a further response. From our part we have considered the matter closed.” To clarify, Bulletin in no way stated that the July bookings were cancelled to allow for the staffers to stay in the tourist accommodation. We asked whether it could be, in part, a plausible explanation considering the photographic evidence, information by a credible source, and reports from the public.

Bejaarde egpaar op hul Eilandpad plaas aangeval ■

Joe Dreyer

plooi.

Mother Faith is laid to rest ■ Billy Sibuyi

Reverend Faith Amos (83) was born on the 26th of November 1937 in Port Shepstone, Kwazulu Natal, and was married to the late Reverend Cliff Amos. They responded to the high calling of the ministry as the missionaries and pastors of the Wesleyan Church in Casteel Village, around Bushbuckridge from 1961 – 1979. They were both fluent in Zulu and Tsonga languages and their children adapted to the environment where they were the only white faces for literally a 100 kilometres. Soon after the passing of her husband, twenty years ago, Amos (known as Mhakhi Amos) continued doing the missionary and pastoral duties in Casteel. She was a people’s person who loved any person, whether Christian or not– it never mattered to her.

Limpopo PARTY HIRE

Mhakhi Amos was known for her love. She adopted many black families, providing shelter, clothes and food. She was not only a giver but also taught people to not only receive, but also to do on their own, give them seed and they would plant crops and other vegetables at their homes. This had become the norm of giving whatever was available in the house. She had a giving heart. Many people were schooled through her assistance in the form of resources, school fees, schoolbooks and even clothing. Amos did missionary work travelling and evangelizing in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng. She mobilized a team of pastors going from one area to another building churches, using her finances and resources. Not only did she focus on South Africa, but also built churches in Zambia and Zimbabwe. Amos had many car breakdowns in her long journeys and resorted to sleeping on the roadside with her fellow worshippers of God. In some instances, during the apartheid era, she would make use of lodges for accommodation. In most cases, black pastors traveling with her would not be accepted inside the lodge and she would then resolve to also sleeping outside. Together with a team of Christian women, they would visit other white families around Bushbuckridge (Zoeknog York Lumber, and Acornhoek Railway Official residences). Despite resistance from those white families, she would go with these black women and conduct prayers vehemently. She worked tirelessly in black communities, evangelizing and planting churches in Namakgale and Lulekani from 1979 untill her passing in 2020. Mhakhi Amos answered her master’s call on the morning of the 12th of July and she will be laid to rest on Saturday, 18th of July, at 10:00 in Phalaborwa. She leaves behind Mark, Sharon, Carol and Paul. “You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Now there is in store for you the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to you on that day. Rested in Eternity... Etlela hi ku rhula!”

Hanlie van Niekerk and Chantelle Luther were some of the kind-hearted Samaritans who helped out on Saturday with the collection of blankets that were donated by bikers from the Brothers and the Road Hogs bikers clubs as well as private bike riders. The blankets were donated to the Letaba SPCA and money was raised to help impoverished communities from Tzaneen. Ellie Potgieter and Antoinette Briedenhann from Letaba SPCA were in attendance to see the graciousness of bike riders. Photos: Roelof de Jonge

I wake up every morning thinking, today will be a good day. The coffee is good, I see my morning person husband dancing around, smiling at me – he truly is a wonderful human, but that personality in the morning - wow - too much for my brain to handle. Anyway, I have no idea anymore what my goal in life is or who I want to be, everything is changing, and I am stuck. Stuck at home. Stuck in this Covid life. Never had I ever thought of wearing a mask every single day. At least not in the literal sense. I am not even one for scarfs, nor a lot of jewellery. We all like jewellery, yes, but we also like taking it off some time during the day. My frustration with this new accessory is that it does not match any of my shoes. Of course hubby dearest darling angel, being him, thinks it looks fab and “who looks at your shoes anyway”. Bless him and his childlike optimism. So back to this Covid thing, which when you thought juggling motherhood with working-class woman and making it look good while you’re at it was tough enough, managed to up the ante a little. You know, just to make things colourful. You have the stress of finances, health, kids, regulations, are we like, even allowed to say “hello” to someone in a grocery store? Yes, well how will they know it was me saying hello as they cannot see my mouth! Urgh! Violence is huge a concern, it is quite freighting to look over your shoulder wherever you go, double checking if everything is locked and hidden and not wanting to drive around with my family. You must make sure you have the pepper-spray ready; your phone is unlocked (yet out of sight but not out of reach) ready to speed-dial. I feel so sorry for mankind, this is not a free and happy life, this is a puppet show. Stress is a silent terrorist. It is inevitable. It is how you handle it that is important. There are so many ways of dealing and treating it. TRE, therapy, exercise, yoga, massages, baking, eating – joking, don’t overdo it - meditation, hypnotherapy, cleaning, throwing stuff at the wall (not at someone), listening to music, drinking a bottle of wine, writing a book, a lengthy positive phone call, whatever tickles your fantasy. Try all of it and find your go-to method. Then, have a glass of wine. Or a placebo such as noon-fermented grape juice. Work – well ain’t that just another beast all together? Used to be a genuinely easy little tick off the old “to-do list” every afternoon. You know, it was that thing that ended the moment the handbag clanked down on the counter and you felt that familiar relief as the hook released and you felt that bra strap snap off. According to some organisations, I am not allowed to see clients or work at full pace and if I am allowed to see my clients, who are obviously in a different industry, their regulations say I am not allowed to. I do not like it. And month end comes, debit order time, for the life of me I hope everything goes through. Ping ping ping, I leave it for an hour, once the unbarring sound stops, I just glance at the last message to see if all is still positive (but not too positive because, you know, Covid). I go to bed tired and wake up feeling tired. Yes, yes - I know, I need vitamins, exercise and a good diet. I do not have the energy necessary to workout at home. And quite frankly, with everything else going on in this space, don’t really have the motivation to. And no, I will not wake up at 5am – it’s too damn cold, and apparently according to hubby-dearest, too early for wine. He says even Gin. I have this uneasy feeling about putting on weight. I do like fitting into my jeggings, but now I am thinking of other alternatives to not put on weight. Like, drinking green tea to help cleanse, eating healthier – eating healthy is ridiculously expensive! Will this diet still work if I only eat half the portion because I cannot afford to eat this amount of fresh fish, nuts, high in fibre and protein, gluten and lactose free products? Laughs. I doubt it, I will pass thank you for making me feel worse about myself. I don’t know about you ladies, but I have this voice in my head forever telling me that I am not doing enough or am not good enough. I get myself pondering on everything I have done in that day and I think, “screw you little voice, I’m alive, dressed and have friggin make up on!” I managed to get out of bed, I mean come on! My children are alive (thankfully) and my husband is on a roll every day. I have spent time with the kids, I endured a 15-minute potty break trying to understand how superheroes, cars and crocodiles are crucial to the task at hand. I have done some work, checked the load shedding schedule to make sure I can prepare for that disaster, remembered my mask before I went to the shop and I only used enough water to clean the bits. I have checked in with all the WhatsApp and Telegram “groepies” to ensure no important school messages were missed and heaven forbid we get another invitation to join another groepie because I’m all groepied out. So I feel accomplished. And here’s why you should too. Take a step back and think to yourself “I did not lose my sh!t more than usual, I did not reply to a stupid comment on Facebook or point it out. I complimented someone and just gave him the look after a snarky remark form the dearest husband on my shoes or hair or my idea for dinner and walked away, to avoid the war he will lose (again).” According to me ladies, you are all doing a fabulous job! You are enough. You need to take more time to focus on your needs to make sure you are fine. You are more important than you think. We all have our own way of coping with this new life that was forced upon us. In our previous life, I woke up early to go to the gym for a bit of happy hormones to be released. I enjoyed a glass of wine in the evening while cooking and talking about the day. Having a laugh about the issues and highlights. And of course, the social media entertainment I would stumble across while having a smoke break. I enjoy reflecting on the previous life, it teaches me how to be grateful now and adore every single freedom I still have. Like wine, jeez, I was upset when the ban was reinstated! The lockdown is harsh, and it has the capacity to change you. You, however, get to decide in which way. I guess my question I put to you is simply; who will you be when all of this is over? Let me know. Let’s chat. See you on one of the groepies or perhaps in the Facebook comments, if we’re fortunate, maybe in line at Checkers where the wine isle used to be.

Paul-Charl Lombard Nel Roux Blignaut is my lewende testament en onuitwisbare watermerk, soos ‘n permanente Disprin. Al ligpunt was ou Chris Redelinghuys, met wie ek my verjaardag saam kon vier.

Cops down tools ■

The Limpopo Department of Transport in Phalaborwa went on a go-slow on Monday, July 13th following a claim that their station manager was abusing his powers. According to some officials within the department, who wished to remain silent due to the fear of reprisal, said that they have been having issues with the station manager and were now tired of being ill-treated. The station manager, who is known to Bulletin, said that he was unaware of the ‘go-slow’ as he was still on vocational leave, and he also told us that he was unaware of any issues between him and his officials. He further told Bulletin to contact the Department of Transport for official comment as this was an internal matter. “I have been on vocational leave and only returned back to duty today, however I have not been to Phalaborwa yet as I had meetings to attend in Polokwane and will only be going there after I have been to Giyani for another meeting at our district offices,” stated a perplexed manager, who said he just saw his name on social media alleging that he was abusing his powers. “I honestly did not know anything about the go-slow as I do not recall any issues between myself and the officials,” he continued. Bulletin contacted the traffic officials shop steward, Oupa Shingange, and he said that he could not comment on any questions raised by the pub-

www.reallysa.co.za

M E D I A

lication at that moment. Shingange could not also reveal how long the go-slow would go as he said that it was internal matter which still needed to be discussed. “For now I cannot speak to the media because this is still a matter we suppose to sit down and discuss on, between the union and the officials,” commented Shingange who was also holding back on what issues the officials were facing for them to finally decide to take a stance in the form of a go-slow. The Limpopo Transport Spokesperson, Moremi Matome, said that the department would investigate the matter between the officials and the station manager and would give a full update by Wednesday, and at the time of going to print we had not received feedback. Coincidentally, at the inception of the go-slow, on Monday, three accidents occurred along two of the busiest roads in the Province. The first two accidents were reported on the R71, around the same vicinity where just last week two people had died following a car accident, and the other on the R40 Makushane Four Way. Moreover, Moremi, said that he had not yet received the report on the accidents and could not comment on whether the accidents could have been avoided had there been no go-slow. “I will have to check the preliminary investigations report first to determine the cause of the accidents and I don’t have the accidents report at this stage,” he stated.

Constable abducted ■

A police officer who went missing on Sunday, the 12th of July, while on her way back to work was found alive the following evening. The 26-year-old from Casteel, just outside Acornhoek, was reported missing by her siblings to the police after efforts to contact her were in vain. Constable Baswabile Silowe who is stationed at the Lydenburg Police Station, had left home and was returning to work making use of public transportation. According to Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the SAPS Provincial spokesperson, Const Silowe arrived at the Bushbuckridge Shopping Complex where she was to catch a taxi to Lydenburg. To her fortune, before she could catch her second taxi, an unknown man offered her a lift that could possibly enable her to get to Lydenburg a lot faster and cheaper and according to the police she informed her sibling. However, her good fortune turned to bad luck. When

she regained conscious she had been ditched in the bushes with her hands and feet fastened with ropes and cheated out of her belongings. According to Hlathi, Silowe had managed to roll to a nearby road where she was spotted near the traffic lights by a passing ambulance in Calcutta, an area around Bushbuckridge, and they immediately notified the police. The police who had been searching for her, immediately arrived at the scene. “Her sister called to check up on her several times but failed to reach her. She also called Silowe’s roommate who confirmed that she had not arrived. The sister then grew worried after failed attempts to trace her and reported the matter to the police who immediately launched a search,” stated the Hlathi. Hlathi said that Silowe recalled having a cloth put over her face by one of the men in the vehicle and she became unconscious thereafter. The constable was later taken to hospital for medical examinations and has since been discharged.

Mayor calls for action ■

Jeff Jackson

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality mayor Maripe Mangena has warned people against complacency in the fight against the spread of Covid-19. According to him, the infections were increasing at an alarming rate. This followed after Tzaneen allegedly recorded its first death last week. Mangena said that with the lifting of most restrictions, residents were behaving as though the Coronavirus was non-existent. He said Covid-19 infections increased at a very high rate since the introduction of Level 3 and warned against the myth that Covid-19 does not infect black people. He said the rise in the number of infections was evidence that the Coronavirus does not discriminate based on skin colour and further warned those who doubt that virus exists to stop spreading conspiracy theories.

He explained that Greater Tzaneen Municipality has only three hospitals which will suffer if the spread was not be curtailed. According to Mangena, this is because the three hospitals combined do not even have 800 beds to accommodate the large number of Covid-19 patients expected as infections peak. “We call everyone to play a role in the fight against this pandemic,” he said. “To defeat the invisible killer amongst us, people must continue to wear face masks, maintain social distance, wash hands continuously and stay at home.” The mayor added that members of community must stop holding public gatherings like soccer tournaments, parties, meetings with more than fifty people and avoid spending too much time at shopping malls. Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) mayor, Maripe Mangena said people must comply with the Covid-19 rules to stop the spread of the virus.

More police for farms ■

Jeff Jackson

The downplaying of numbers or statistics and the soft talk associated with the politicians of the ruling ANC was last Thursday offered a heavy blow when leader of the Freedom Front Plus, Pieter Groenewald accused the Police Ministry of lying about the numbers of farm attacks. Groenewald said it is time something is done about the problem that has until recently gone unabated. This happened when Police minister, Bheki Cele told the Portfolio on Police that during the first three months of the year the number of attacks on farms were decreasing. Cele went on to say that as the police they are taking farm attacks very seriously and they are going to apply strategies in Limpopo to fight these attacks. This happened just days after this publication ran an article in which farmers now think of taking matters into their own hands. The farmers said that it seemed as though President Cyril Ramaphosa and his government were doing nothing about the rising farm attacks and that they would now protect themselves no matter the cost. Groenewald disagreed when Police commissioner Khehla Sithole said that from January

to March the number of farm attacks nationally stood at 80 while in the subsequent three months to June the numbers decreased to 48. However, Sithole said that they were going to increase police visibility on the farms as well as improve relations with farming communities. According to Groenewald there was an increase in the farms attacks and that on Wednesday alone there were 11 of these attacks alone. He said more isv needed to be done to remedy the situation. “We would continue improving relations with the farming communities as relationships between farmers and the police in Limpopo had recently delivered great results. Once we work together (the police and the farming communities) all crime will stop, including murder,” Cele said. The submission by the police to Treasury for the expected Covid-19 related expenditure for the current fiscal year amounted to R4,88 billion and they were allocated R3,7 billion. The department managed to reprioritise R1 billion from the original budget. Cele said both amounts will go to the visible policing budget which will also include policing around the farming communities.

The team’s captain, Paul Hawken, said they were delighted to retain the title, even though the season was cut short by the restrictions placed on sport as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Divya George, the club and facilities coordinator at Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC), explained how the points for the remaining cancelled matches

LIC’s president, John Mogodi, said the Covid-19 pandemic created a new reality for world sport and LIC was not spared. “We could not conclude all our scheduled club games, we can not practise yet, all our programmes have been halted and the school season that was meant to start now in the third term will not commence. We could however not imagine letting the 2019/2020 season go by without honouring those cricketers, officials and clubs that have excelled this past season”.
