The police in Limpopo arrested a 29-year-old man who robbed many residents, particularly women, by pretending to be a medical professional. There were some reports of him pretending to be an evangelist. According to the police he scammed his victims in Tzaneen, Mankweng, Polokwane, Botlokwa and Senwabarwana to the tune of R40 000. Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, said the man was arrested at Mankweng on Monday by the Provincial tracking team and he was due to appear in court soon while further investigations would be continuing. He said the man posed as a doctor and swindled money from several women in the province. “A case of theft under false pretences was opened after he allegedly swindled about R40 000 from the female victims. The suspect who was driving around in a BMW X5, at times allegedly disguised himself as an evangelist. The

Another two poachers were slammed with extensive jail terms in the Kruger National Park’s ‘Rhino Court’ on Friday, the 25th of February. The two men from Mozambique were arrested in the Satara section of the KNP on the 22nd of May 2019 by rangers who responded to the sound of shots fired, and later found two carcasses of rhino with their horns still intact. A resultant search culminated with the arrest of the two men close to the scene where the carcases were found and poaching equipment including a high-powered rifle were recovered and linked to the killing of the rhinos. Americo Mathonsi (59) and his accomplice, Michael Chauke (57), were found guilty of trespassing in a National Park, killing of a protected species, possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, contravention of the immigration act, and being in possession of dangerous weapons.

They were each sentenced to a total of 23 years in prison. The Skukuza Regional court is expected to finalise several high-profile cases this year including that of former KNP Regional Ranger, Rodney Landela, whose trial is set for June 2022. “We welcome the resumption of trials in Skukuza after the court experienced technical problems with their recording equipment and congratulate the prosecution for presenting a compelling case to the court which led to the two convictions and sentencing,” stated the Managing Executive, Gareth Coleman. “Our continued collaboration with the SAPS and NPA is bearing results with the sentences that have been meted out by the court. There is still more to be done, especially outside the park to arrest those responsible for destroying our natural heritage. Our anti- poaching teams will be encouraged by these sentences which prove that their efforts are not in vain.”

In an unrelated matter, SANParks has announced the departure of the Managing Executive Restructuring of KNP, Gareth Coleman, after he completed his two-year term. He will leave the position in September 2022 after the Board approved a six-month extension to enable him to handover to his successor. Coleman was engaged to stabilise the KNP and prepare a revised business model and strategy for the KNP. He took over when the country was in a total lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which impacted on the timelines of his mandate. Despite the lockdown, Coleman still managed to achieve the upgrading of KNP staff accommodation and undertook an extensive consultation process with employees and outside stakeholders on their role in the park. This was all to inform them about a turnaround plan for the KNP which aims to keep its place among the best managed national parks in the world. The plan includes a new business model for the KNP and creating opportunities for busi-
nesses from communities adjacent to the KNP. He hosted successful roadshows which were well attended by both SMME’s and funding agencies to highlight opportunities in which they need to participate to revive the rural economy in their respective areas and thereby creating job opportunities. Coleman will spend the six-month extension of his contract finalising the strategy and to ensure a smooth handover to his successor. “It has been a privilege and an honour to serve SANParks in driving change in one of the greatest destinations and national parks in the world. When I arrived, I had no illusions about what could be achieved in two years and my aim was always to try and get everyone looking forward and in the same direction, this despite it being a difficult period to lead because of the pandemic,” stated Coleman. He also mentioned that he would use the final six months to work with management and employees to finalise a business model and organisational structure which would ensure the ongoing sustainability of the Park in a more participative, green, and inclusive manner.

police appeal to anyone who might have fallen victim to this bogus doctor, to come forward and assist in the unfolding investigations.” said Mojapelo. Meanwhile the police in Ritavi opened an inquest last week after community members at Petanenge village in the Muhlava area attacked a young man from the community who allegedly abducted a six-year-old girl during the day and allegedly raped her before stabbing her to death with a sharp object. It took the community several days looking for the child until they reached the suspect who confessed. He was beaten to death. The incident left the community in shock and the mayor of the GTM paid the family a visit and pledged to support them with funeral arrangements. According to members of the community the rapist was found hiding himself under the bed at his home. It is alleged that after confessing he even showed the angry mob the place where he left the child’s body.

A dog handler with his dog, Scent.
■ Billy Sibuyi The role played by the K9 unit in the fight against rhino poaching is undeniably important. Since its establishment more than seven years ago, the Kruger National Park rangers have arrested more than 90% suspected poachers with the aid of the dogs. Poaching in national parks remains a major conservation challenge in South Africa and the K9 Anti-Poaching Unit is considered a game changer for anti-poaching initiatives in the Kruger National Park. It was during a media daytrip which was held on Wednesday morning, the 2nd of March, at the K9 Centre in the park, that Bulletin learned that well-trained dogs such as the Bloodhound, Belgian Shepherd, or Malinois, breeds were perfectly suited to track poachers in the field. These dogs have keen senses of smell and can be used to detect firearms, ammunition, and wildlife products that enter and exit through the park gates. As poachers become more lethally armed, the dogs provide crucial early warning and safety systems for rangers and handlers. According to Kally Ubisi, the Skukuza section ranger, a well-trained dog and its handler are powerful weapons against wildlife crime. “After extensive research and recommendations from experts we realized that dogs were the game changers and that’s when we sent some of guys for dog handling training,” stated Ubisi. “Most of the sniffer dogs are deployed at the gates to sniff out explosives and firearms, whilst we use the line dogs to track poachers.” Ubisi said that there were about 60 dogs in the entire Kruger with each of the 12 sections of the park assigned with a dog and the rest deployed to the gates.

Impala to be rehabilitated after 20 years
This is Impala Street in Tzaneen’s industrial area. It is actually a tarred public access road in the heavy industrial area. We’re not kidding.
■ Joe Dreyer It has been years since Tzaneen’s motorists were able to use Impala Street in Tzaneen’s heavy industrial area in their daily commute. In fact even businesses in that area have not been able to use this road due to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s typically lackadaisical approach to service delivery and basic maintenance. Many reading this article would not have been aware that Impala Street actually exists, or where exactly it is situated as it has long since become a donga-riddled dirt road suitable only for heavy vehicles and large trucks. The latter even struggling to traverse this route successfully of late. This led to a small motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles owned by neighbouring businesses situated along this route. Nobody was injured in the accident, but the tensions had reached boiling point
These massive craters in the road’s surface is caused by the private water tankers that illegally draw water from this fire hydrant.
and both the business owners contacted their ward councillor, and their local newspaper to try and resolve the matter. DA Ward Councillor Chrizelle Dreyer contacted the parties involved and arranged for a meeting between all affected businesses and the GTM to find a way forward. The meeting was held last week at the offices of Tzaneng Timbers and was attended by Riaan du Plessis and Loubelle van Dyk of Tzaneng Timbers, Mark Webb of Wisani Funeral Services, Hassim Goolam Mohamed of HGM Steelboys and a delegation from the GTM led by Olga Tshisevhe, GTM Manager: Roads and Storm Water. According to Tshisevhe, the GTM is currently busy with the rehabilitation of the roads in Tzaneen and have prioritised them according to risk factors. “The short-term solution will be to re-gravel the road starting with the lower section of Impala Street which is in the worst condition. There are leaking storm water pipes and the water tankers
that collect water from the hydrant in front of Woodcloez at Impala Street 26 also contribute to the bad condition of the road.” Tzaneng Timbers have been occupying the premises in Impala Street since 2001 and own several other properties along the same stretch. In the past, du Plessis fixed this road and even paid to have three speedbumps and various traffic signs erected. He even used the GTM’s preferred contractor to do so. Because of this, it was initially believed that there existed an agreement between the municipality and Tzaneng Timbers that du Plessis would keep the road maintained. This was however proven to be a falsehood. Du Plessis did offer his assistance and even machinery to the municipality during the meeting held last week, which they gladly accepted. The meeting concluded with the GTM committing to the complete rehabilitation of Impala Street which reportedly commenced on Monday the 28th of February with what they termed “short-term repairs”.

Money thrown in the water ■ Jeff Jackson The much awaited R40 million Lenyenye Steel Pipe installation project is still not fully operational despite promises made by the Mopani District that this would be resolved this year. That the project was nearing completion was announced by the Mopani District Mayor, Pule Shai, last year where he added it was the biggest project in the district and would go a long way in increasing water supply to the townships. The MDM had in the past been accused of sinking boreholes at highly inflated prices, which solved nothing as the areas these boreholes were supposed to supply, still have no water. “We are completing the last phase of the pipeline from the Water Treatment Works to Lenyenye and have constructed reservoirs. We are now building a booster pump station earmarked to resolve water supply problems in Lenyenye and surrounding areas.” According to a member of the community, they started complaining on Monday when there was no water after they were promised that the project which had been running in the township for the past four years would be launched. Then, on Tuesday, the booster pump was started and water started flowing into the homes of residents. “The taps, most of which were not working, were either leaking or blocked,” said one source close to the project. By Wednesday, the office of the Superintendent was flooded with residents seeking solutions. ”We were told to write our names and the house numbers in the book, and told to go home and we would be attended to. Some of the taps have no water as they were blocked while some of the main pipes were leaking.” Following the opening of the booster pump and the reservoir
the whole township and the surrounding areas received water. A member of the ward committee who served during the construction said there is an arrangement that a contractor would be appointed to repair the taps that were leaking and those that are blocked. Though this project was completed and handed over to the community, the other projects that the district municipality implemented have been marred in controversy such as the inflation of borehole drilling prices, and paying contractors for the work before work even started. Several executives of service providers in Mopani were arrested after law enforcement agencies were involved. The Lenyenye Steel Water Pipe project was birthed after the completion of the Moime Water Reticulation project in 2019, when communities from Thabina, Moime, and Mokomotji started illegally connecting to the main pipeline thus disabling water supply to Lenyenye. In October 2018, Bulletin reported about a project at Jopie Mawa and Ramothsinyadi in which community members were up in arms after the then community liaison officer was chased from work. Even today the project had not been completed and the municipality had said there are no funds for the project this financial year. A child had since fallen into one of the boreholes sunk at Jopie. During the State of the District in September last year, the MDM Mayor Pule Shai, said “for the coming financial year, we do not have allocations for the Jopie-Mawa-Ramothsinyadi project, but we have an amount of R42 million for the 2022/2023 financial year. And through working with the department of Water and Sanitation we will be able to solve the water crisis affecting our district.”
Stan the man leads the pack ■ Jeff Jackson Limpopo premier and ANC provincial chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha, is leading the race for re-election as the chairperson of the party and subsequently the premier of the province following the 2024 elections. This is after he was elected by three districts with the exception of Mopani. They are Sekhukhune, Peter Mokaba and Vhembe district. Mopani, which is said to be the most influential region after Vhembe district has come up in support of its executive mayor, Pule Shai. Shai who hails from Phalaborwa is also the regional chairperson of Norman Mashabane District. This is in preparations for the national conference set for December in which the current president Cyril Ramaphosa is to be contested by various other leaders within the party. This has turned two dominating factions against each other again, namely the CR22 and the Radical Economic Transformation (RET), led
by supporters of Ramaphosa and former president Jacob Zuma respectively. The positions of who is to be elected at the conference were made clear during the branch general meetings which took place during the weekend at various venues within the district. Mopani had thrown their weight behind their leader Pule Shai while other regions want Stanley Mathabatha to continue. Mathabatha is contested by Dickson Masemola. According to Vhembe, Peter Mokaba and the Waterberg regions, Mathabatha will be followed by Florence Radzilana as deputy, Soviet Lekganyane as secretary, Basikopo Makamu as deputy secretary while Makoma Makhurupetsi from Mopani is touted for the position of treasurer. Mopani however wants Dickson Masemola to lead, Pule Shai as deputy, Soviet Lekganyane for secretary, and Livhuwani Ligaraba and Makoma Makhurupetsi as deputy secretary and treasurer respectively.

AVBOB responds to Zietsman complaint ■ Joe Dreyer Following Bulletin’s report on the horrid experience one member of our community suffered through at the hands of the AVBOB Tzaneen staff, the company issued an official response through their representative, Malixole Gwatyu. “Thank you for affording us the opportunity to provide your publication with a response regarding the unfortunate experience of Mrs E Zietsman,” Gwatyu wrote. “At AVBOB, we always strive to provide quality service to our clients and when we fall short of the standard expected from us we don’t hesitate to take action.” AVBOB stated that they believed the matter amicably resolved after Esté Zietsman contacted their General Manager: Funeral Service Mr Pieter van der Westhuizen. “Mrs Zietsman called me on the 12th of August 2021 at 14:14 and was very upset about the service that she received from our branch in Tzaneen. I apologised that the service she experienced did not meet her expectations,” van der Westhuizen explained. “I immediately arranged for a new ash coffin and for the insurance claim to be finalised. I also arranged with Mrs Zietsman to deliver the ash coffin at the church in Agatha Street, Tzaneen still the same afternoon. We deeply regret what has happened and I have assured Mrs Zietsman that we will take corrective action where we did not deliver service to the standards required.” Later, that same day, van der Westhuizen contacted Zietsman to confirm that the correct ash coffin and flowers
were delivered and that the claim was finalised that same afternoon. In our inquiry to AVBOB, we asked for an explanation on the process to be followed by a family member following the death of one of their policy holders. According to them, initially the first responders will issue a declaration of death and AVBOB will collect the deceased from the place of death. AVBOB will then arrange for a DHA-1663 to be completed by the attending doctor. The DHA-1663 has seven sections whereof the family must complete one as the informant. In Zietsman’s case, she was handed the forms and instructed to visit the doctor and home affairs to have the documentation signed herself. According to AVBOB, this is not the process that needs to be followed. “AVBOB takes care of the documents and make sure that the relevant doctors and family members complete their sections before taking the DHA-1663 and the following documents to Home Affairs to register the death for a death certificate to be issued,” they said in their response to our inquiry. They added however, “Some offices of Home Affairs demand that the family member themselves register a death.” We do not know if this is the case with Tzaneen or Modjadjiskloof Home Affairs offices. Regarding the mystery of the two sets of fingerprints (of the deceased) which are clearly different on the two copies of the documentation Zietsman was handed to complete, AVBOB could not provide a clear answer and responded to our inquiry with a question; “These are two separate BI documents, where did the other one come from?” In the meantime we request that any of our readers who have had similar experiences with funeral homes, please send us your story to joe@farnorthbulletin.co.za.

Experience the East this March in Tzaneen ■ Roelof de Jonge
Everyone loves rummaging around in a bargain store. Which is why the town is abuzz with excitement regarding the opening of a massive Chinese-owned store in Tzaneen, right next to Magic Build. The Great Value Store is set to open its doors on Friday the 11th of March, right at the start of the Chinese month of the Rabbit. Along with the grand opening will be a host of opening discount offers on a variety of items. Bulletin embarked on a visit to the store where Great Value’s staff are frantically busy stocking the hundreds of shelves for the big day. The store owner, Zixing Feng, walked us through the store to show what they have on offer. And no, this is not another one of those cheap knock-off stores where the products disintegrate a few hours after you arrive home. This store has decent products and there is literally anything and everything here for anyone willing to spend a few hours to browse.
Need to do some maintenance in and around the house? Great Value has a wide range of DIY products, and there is a massive range of security lights to help deter criminals. For the party animals and social butterflies, there is also plenty on offer like party décor and novelties and even sound and entertainment systems. There is also a pets department with all kinds of accessories on offer to make life easier and more convenient for you, and of course to maintain and treat your beloved pet, whether it’s birds, cats, dogs, or even fish. It is not only households that will benefit from all the offers available, there is even a great line-up of stationery items for business offices and schools. Furthermore, there is a stockpile of cutlery, baking, fishing gear, cleaning equipment, foot rugs or mats, and carpets on offer come the 11th of March. Great Value is situated right next to Magic Build. Keep in mind that 30% discounts will be on offer on a wide selection of items during the grand opening of Great Value in Tzaneen.
Store manager Gao Weiming and his staff are working frantically to be ready in time for the opening of the Great Value store on the 11th of March.
Gastroenterologist joins Mediclinic Tzaneen
Dr Otto Buchel and his wife, Laura, at Mediclinic Tzaneen.
■ Joe Dreyer Mediclinic Tzaneen this month acquired the professional services of a gastroenterologist. Surgeon Dr Otto Buchel, is regarded as the only gastroenterologist in Limpopo which will offer Tzaneen one more specialist right on their doorsteps. Dr Buchel and his wife, Laura, literally arrived in Tzaneen this week from Cape Town where they resided the past five years. “Although we have spent the last five years in the Cape, we are actually from Gauteng. I am really excited about the practice here which has much potential, and it is adequate for me. I do think the hospital can be further expanded to cater for even more patients.” On moving to Tzaneen, Dr Buchel said it is different from the city life the couple were accustomed to but is enthusiastic about the lifestyle of this area. Dr Buchel, who operates on referrals only, is situated at Room A1 near Ivory Tusk Lodge opposite Mediclinic Tzaneen.

Baby Bottle Caries
How can I prevent Baby Bottle Caries? • Do not allow your child to go to bed with a bottle filled with anything but water. • Wean your child from the bottle in a timely manner. • Begin good early mouth care of the gums and teeth of your child. • Give fluoride supplementation as recommended by your child’s doctor. • Have early dental visits for your child.
treatment. As with most health issues, the earlier the problem is addressed, the less extensive and invasive the treatment is likely to be. Treatment is thus based on the age of the child and the severity of the condition. You must seek your Dentist’s help at the earliest signs of a problem so you can formulate an approach to management and treatment. If your child presents with white spots on his teeth, it may be an early sign of baby bottle decay. The aim of treatment is to reverse the decay and help rebuild the surface of the enamel. Your Dentist may also recommend fluoride supplements. Make changes to the baby’s diet to stop the decay from progressing. These include limiting acidic foods, juices and substituting water for juice, formula or milk in your child’s bottle. If decay is detected at later stages, the damage will be irreversible and fluoride treatments will no longer be sufficient. Symptoms include brown or black spots on teeth, bleeding or swollen gums, fever, irritability and bad breath. If your child presents with any of these symptoms, you need to see a Dentist as soon as possible. Should the decay spread, your child may face extensive dental treatment and even tooth loss.
How is Baby Bottle Caries treated? The type of treatment depends on the severity of the decay and your Dentist can provide the correct
What if your child’s tooth decay is severe? Treatment for Baby Bottle Caries is very similar to that of adult tooth decay. Your Dentist might suggest
What is Baby Bottle Caries? Baby Bottle Caries is a form of tooth decay that is caused by children sleeping with bottles. It is also called Nursing Bottle Decay. It happens when a child goes to bed with a bottle filled with juice or milk or anything except water. It affects children between the ages of one and five years old. Breastfed infants who fall asleep while breastfeeding are also at risk. What are the signs and symptoms of Baby Bottle Caries? The most common signs and symptoms of Baby Bottle Caries are white spots on the teeth as well as early development of cavities which present as brown areas on the teeth that lead to tooth destruction.
sedation or even general anaesthesia for extensive restoration work, depending on your child’s age and maturity level. In severe cases teeth might even need to be extracted. This is more likely if the tooth is infected or has decayed so extensively that it cannot be restored. What is the importance of treating Baby bottle Caries? It is a common misconception that premature loss of baby teeth is not a problem. They will fall out anyway. There are many reasons to be concerned about premature loss of baby teeth. The permanent teeth are present in the jaw from your baby’s early years. The baby teeth act as space maintainers for the permanent teeth. If they are lost prematurely, the spacing of the permanent teeth may be affected and your child could require extensive orthodontic treatment. It can also make it difficult for your child to eat a healthy, nutritious diet and it may adversely affect his speech. Dr Ruan Rademeyer

Phala-Gold glimmers for Khatala and Mokgobu ■ Billy Sibuyi The air around Phalaborwa was filled with cheers, laughter, and the energy of hundreds of runners, volunteers, and supporters as they participated in the Inaugural Family Day Marathon held on Saturday, the 26th of February. Runners from various running clubs and some private runners, lined up at the starting line inside the Palabora Copper (PMC) mining operations. This was for the start of the 21km half-marathon and the 10km run which saw the more serious runners start off inside the mine. The Family Day Marathon consisted of a half-marathon, 10km, 5km fun run, and a 3km relay race. The half-marathon went through the mine, towards the Kruger National Park, to the Silonque Road, through the town’s residential areas, dumping site, and finally ended at the Impala Park Rugby Stadium. Lesotho born Neheng Khatala, became the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 1:10:30, setting a new half marathon record for Limpopo, whilst Desmond Mokgobu beat Thabang Mosialo in the Men’s race in a time of 1:01:32. “It is my first time in Limpopo, and I am proud of my achievement, I came to this marathon to win, and I was expecting to win it. It was very difficult to control my pace when we got to the gravel, but I managed very well,” Khatala told Bulletin after the race. “I made sure I stayed behind the leading pack and when there was about 10km left, I started to add more pace because I knew David Manja and Thabang Mosialo were going to give me a difficult time if I did not give it my all,” Mokgobu, the winner of the mens’ event said. For runners of all ages and experience levels, the Family Day Marathon brought a sense of pride to the community. There were many winners on the day and cash prizes of more than R140 000 were handed out. Chamberlain Timekeeping tracked the runners and authenticated their performances, times, and records. Thabang Mosialo came in second in the 21km with a time of 01:01:40, with David Manja in third in a time of 01:02:19. Veteran runner, Gift Ramabele, crossed the line in second place in the Womens’ 21km race in a time of 01:33:58 whilst Beryl Makotha took the bronze with a time of 01:34:08. Sibusiso Nzima who won last year’s F21 Marathon, took a gold in the 10km race for men with a time of 30:08, whilst Nicholas Seopoeng came in second in a time of 30:49 with Abednico Mashaka in third with a time of 30:57. Another Veteran athlete, Catherine Skhosana, won the female’s 10km with a time of 41:02, Joyce Netshitenze placed second with a time of 47:34, and Maite Machete came in third with a time of 53:52.

Tzaneen Tennis Club has produced some great tennis players over the last five decades. Currently, Zoë Venter is ranked number one in Limpopo and 14th in South Africa in the u/14 division for girls and Marais Botha is the top-ranked u/18 boys’ player in the province. The Club currently comprises 52 members and any person who would like to enjoy the social and health benefits this sport offers, is welcome to join. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by young and old alike, as the ages of their members range from primary school level to 70+ years. The Club House of Tzaneen Tennis Club was recently upgraded and offers great facilities for social gatherings and, of course, to play tennis. All the courts have flood lights which is ideal for playing later into
the evenings. This year the club’s members plan to host a social tournament every quarter and host its Club Championships during the winter months. Several of Tzaneen Tennis Club’s players also compete in provincial and invitational tournaments in Polokwane, Louis Trichardt and Phalaborwa. The club plans to host the clubs occasionally from these areas too. For those who want to improve their game, Reenen Bergmann offers professional coaching to many of the schools in the area and private lessons to individuals. You can get in touch with him by contacting the club. Applications to join can be made by contacting the treasurer, James Excell, on 084 852 2688. All new members are supplied with keys to the Club House and the tennis courts and can make unlimited use of all the facilities available.

Records for Unicorns ■ Roelof de Jonge Unicorn Preparatory School’s athletes excelled at the recent schools’ athletics meetings in the area, like the Interschools meeting at Tzaneen Primary School held two weeks ago. There were however, some athletes who shone a little brighter on the day, like the u/10 Unicorn sprint athlete Katlego Ramoshaba. This junior primary sprinter was the quickest out of the starting blocks in the 100m item at the Interschool’s meeting where he took gold and improved the event’s 15-year-old record of 14.20s to 14.00s. But he was not the only Unicorn athlete to bring home an Interschool’s gold medal. Makgetsi Mantatha won the shotput item for boys u/12, and in the shotput item for girls u/10, Sandra Spies recorded the furthest distance. Another shotput gold medal came Unicorn’s way when Gomo Moleko, boys u/10, went on to win this item. Ntoto Mabunda was unbeatable in the high jump item for girls u/12 and recorded a winning height of 1.27m. The Unicorn athletes who qualified to compete at the upcoming Limpopo Athletics Championship on the 11th and 12th of March in Polokwane are William Tasker, Liam du Toit, Alastair Wiltshire, Katlego Ramoshaba, Ntoto Mabunda, Makgetsi Manthata and Ariel Nkuna.

The Interschools Athletics meeting hosted by Tzaneen Primary School on the 19th of February, provided plenty of action. So many records were improved upon, and there were so many stellar performances that some slip through the reportage cracks. This week, we would like to pay credit to the athletes who boasted fantastic achievements yet fell by the wayside regarding the media coverage of the event. Drakensig Primary had an absolute field day and took three of the four Victor and Vixtrix Ludorum awards on the day. Lindy-Lee Meyer, for the girls u/12, was the winner of the Senior Vixtrix Ludorum after a gold in three events namely the 100m sprint, 150m hurdles and 150m sprint. She followed these up with a third place in the 75m hurdles race. Roli Mudanalwo, in the age group for girls u/7, was the receiver of the Junior Victrix Ludorum. She won the 80m and 60m sprint races while her teammate Oratile Maleka, was awarded the Junior Victor Ludorum. He won both the 60m and 80m items. Sophia Viljoen who competed in the age group for girls u/11, was named the Best Girls Field Athlete. Leila van Wyngaardt from Duiwelskloof Primary took part in the category for girls u/11. Her stellar performance on track landed her the Best Girls Track Athlete award. The Best Boys Field
Athlete award went to Tzaneen Primary’s Ndzalo Makhubela. Sven Hedin from Dr Annecke Primary was crowned the Best Boys Track Athlete and received the Senior Victor Ludorum for his winning performance in the 80m hurdles item. He was second in both the 200m hurdles and 200m sprint items and came fourth in the 100m sprint race. Hedin’s teammates emulated his performance and made the long haul back to Letsitele with a significant load of gold for their trophy cabinets. These gold medalists were Lia Coetzee (u/12) shotput, Sven Hedin (u/13) 80m hurdles, Ashley Mashele (u/9) 60m and 80m sprints, Regardt Kruger (u/9) 80m sprint, Thari Mojela (u/10) 80m and 100m sprints, Dawid van den Bergh (u/12) long jump and Duan Smith (u/13) javelin. Laerskool Phalaborwa-Noord also had several athletes who brought home some gold medals amidst the fierce competition on the day. These athletes were Lonnie Mdlondzo (u/13) 100m, 200m and 200m hurdles, Michaela Francisco (u/11) 100m and 80m sprints, Khikhi Sehlako (u/10) shotput, and Lentso Selepe (u/11) 70m hurdles, 100m and 1 200m. Well done to all the visiting schools who travelled all the way to Tzaneen to read their hosts the playbook on athletics gold. You should be proud of these amazing achievements which show that hard work pays off.

Steenkamp beklink Ope in styl
