The newly appointed Limpopo ANC provincial chairperson, Stanley Chupu Mathabatha, assured citizens of the province that there would be no cabinet reshuffle to deal with fellow members who contested him. He said that he would hold a meeting with them to figure how they can work together for the betterment of the Limpopo province. Mathabatha won the ANC’s Limpopo provincial conference. He said this on Saturday afternoon after emerging as the winner of the fiercely contested elective conference held at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane. The conference which started late on Friday was opened by the national treasurer, Paul Mashatile who appealed to members to unite after the conference. Mashatile turned down the nomination of Danny Msiza by the Mathabatha slate because of the “step-aside” rule. Voting for the new provincial committee commenced on Saturday and by mid-day the results for
the position of chairperson were as follows, Mathabatha received 761 votes while Dickson Masemola garnered 389. Deputy chairperson was Florence Radzilana with 791 votes against the 373 for Pule Shayi, and the position of secretary Reuben Madazhe won with 717 votes over Soviet Lekganyane’s 451. The position of deputy secretary went to Basikopo Makamu with 797 votes while Livhuwani Ligaraba managed only 365 votes. Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana received 786 votes against 375 of Faith Chauke for the position of treasurer. Donald Senamolela, voted on the floor for the position of treasurer, for the third time declined the nomination. All winners were carried to the podium by their supporters. In his acceptance speech, the incoming chairperson for a third term, Mathabatha said that the new Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) will be preoccupied with matters of the provision of water and roads. He added that they will be deliberating on the discussion documents of the party and give inputs where a need arises. He further said that there would
be no reshuffling of his cabinet any time soon. “It would be unethical to just cut people off because they had contested us. What is going to happen is reviews will take place as usual and if there would be changes, they would be informed by that and not by spite. As you know, this is not the first time comrade Dickson Masemola contested me and we had throughout remained friends,” said Mathabatha. “We are going to sit down with him and others and figure out how we can work together for the sake of our people.” The conference was closed by President Cyril Ramaphosa who addressed members on the latest criminal case he is facing after money was allegedly stolen from his farm in Limpopo. He said that light would be shed during investigations. Mathabatha, who was not known in the province before he returned to Limpopo from the Ukraine where he was the ambassador, after the disbandment of the PEC in 2013. The subsequent removal of Cassel Mathale as the premier saw Mathabatha take up his position in local politics once more.

■ Jeff Jackson The Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s mayor’s Mayoral Imbizo at Madumane village in Bolobedu South, though well-organized, was disrupted by a member of the executive committee who had to be forcefully removed from the proceedings by the onsite security. In a video circulated widely over social media, the councillor seen being slapped on the head by one of the officers as they carried the EFF member out of the hall. The Imbizo was aimed at hearing the concerns of the community regarding service delivery issues in the area. It all started when mayor, Gerson Molapisane, paid a courtesy visit to local headman Modika and donated a wheel chair to a seven-year-old Lethabo Sekgobela of Mohlakong village before proceeding to the United Christian Church at Madumane. The event was attended by representatives from various government agencies so they could answer per-

Alleged stock thieves will be appearing in court this morning, Friday 10th, on charges of stock theft and possession of suspected stolen livestock. The duo, Surprise Mbombi (45) and Scara Mathebula (50), are expected to make their second appearance in the Lulekani Magistrate. The duo initially appeared at the same court on Thursday last week, 2nd of June, and were remanded in custody following their apprehension by members of the Lulekani police. According to the Lulekani saps spokesperson, Sgt Reoh Mabunda, it is alleged that on Monday, the 31st of May, the police followed a tip of men who were seen selling meat. Through their swift reaction, one suspect was arrested after he was found selling said meat which was inside buckets and they enforced the Stock Theft Act, 1957 (Act No. 57 of 1957) and the Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act No. 6 of 2002). Through police interrogation, the suspect then took the police to his accomplice where a cow’s leftovers including the head was found inside the house and he too was arrested immediately. “The two suspects also took the police to the nearby bushes where the slaughtering of the cow took place.

They were all charged with stock theft and remanded in custody pending further police investigation,” stated Mabunda. In an unrelated matter, Sgt Mabunda revealed that the police in Lulekani were also busy investigating a case of inquest. This after a man, identified as Samuel Ntimani and believed to be of the age of 50, was found hanging in the nearby bushes of Ninakhulu settlement in the Policing precinct of Lulekani. According to Mabunda, on Monday, the 31st of May, at about 07:30 the police received information about a man who was found hanging from a tree and upon their arrival on the scene, they found the informant who showed them the deceased who was hanging from a wire under the tree. Paramedics were immediately summoned to the scene and the man was certified dead and a case of inquest was immediately opened. His body was taken to Maphuta Malatjie hospital government mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. “Thus far, the police do not have any detailed information on the circumstances of his death however, full details will be determined by the outcome of the autopsy while investigation is still underway,” concluded Mabunda.

sonally on matters that sought their response. These representatives were from Eskom, SEDA, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the Department of Health. Residents complained about the supply of water to their homes, the bad state of their internal streets, RDP houses, and the electricity problems. During his address, mayor Molapisane promised to address all the issues the community raised. It was during deliberations where it was ordered that the EFF councillor be ejected from the proceedings. It is alleged that he was disruptive. Upon being grabbed by the security officers, it is alleged that one security officer was bitten by the councillor on the chest, which is what prompted the slapping on the back of the head. Ironically, the rest of the red jumpsuits did not stand up and leave the hall in solidarity with their comrade.

Two appear in court

Two Bangladeshi Nationals who were arrested last week Friday, 3rd of June, on charges of bribery after they allegedly attempted to bribe a community activist, Edmond Mbetse, will be appearing this afternoon, Friday, the 10th of June, at the Phalaborwa Magistrate Court. This after the duo, Rafig Ullah (33) and Rahman Luffur (40), appeared in the Phalaborwa magistrate court on Monday, the 6th of June, for the case of bribery and they were remanded in custody. “The suspects, both foreign nationals, reportedly tried to bribe the local community activist in Namakgale to influence the parents of a 10-year-old child who was allegedly raped by their fellow Bangladeshi friend, Hossain Akter, to drop the charges,” stated the Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo. The 10-year-old child went to the suspect’s shop in Namakgale on the 8th of May 2022, to buy an airtime voucher. According to the police, instead of serving her, the suspect locked the door and allegedly raped the child inside. He thereafter let her go. The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested on the same day at his shop. The case against the accused was postponed to the 20th of June 2022 for further police investigations. According to the police, the duo allegedly offered to pay the activist R10 000 to make use of his influence to convince the parents to withdraw the charges against their fellow countryman and in return they would pay the family R15 000. According to the police, after the suspects paid a portion of the money, members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption unit immediately pounced on the two suspects and arrested them. Lt Gen Hadebe has urged community members to continue reporting crime to the police, especially crimes perpetrated against women and children.

Toddler murdered during Child Protection Week ■ Billy Sibuyi
The community of Makushane, outside of Phalaborwa, took the law into their own hands when they hunted down a 27-year-old accused of slitting the throat of his 5-year-old cousin on Monday, the 6th of June. In a brutal video shared with Bulletin, the 27-year-old suspect who was identified by the police as Kagiso Moyane, is seen tied with a rope around one of his legs and being brutally beaten with sticks and fists whilst being interrogated by the community. According to police, they were hunting down Moyane, however, the community beat them to it as he was later found beaten and bruised before being transported to hospital, where he is reported to have succumbed to his injuries. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has since expressed her shock and sadness following the horrendous killing of Kgohlelelo Selowa, a 5 -year-old boy, allegedly by his elder cousin.
The police alleged that the child’s mother returned from work and when she didn’t find her two children at home, assumed they were playing at the neighbour’s house as was the case usually. Dismayed after her eldest child returned, the mother started searching for Selowa with the assistance of the community. It was only after some time searching, that the distraught mother decided to check inside her nephew’s room, who was apparently residing a few houses away. “She made the shocking discovery of the lifeless body of the child next to the basin. Police were immediately notified and upon arrival, the body was found with multiple stab wounds. A case of murder was opened and the police started with initial investigations. A knife and a sharp object believed to be the weapons used during the murder were found next to the body,” stated the Limpopo Provincial spokesperson, Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo. Mojapelo also said that the police were later informed that the suspect was traced and attacked by community members. Upon arrival at the scene, they found him severely assaulted. He was rescued and
taken to the hospital where he later died. “I am saddened to learn about this horrendous and shocking Incident, especially when we just concluded Child Protection Week. Our children’s safety should always be a priority and on the same breath, I warn communities against taking the law into their own hands and urge residents to report crime to the police so that justice can be served,” concluded Lt Gen Hadebe. Limpopo MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale, also weighed in on the matter and condemned the murder of Kgohlelelo Selowa. The MEC said that the incident was a set back to the effort which was being made by the Department of Social Development in teaching communities about the importance of protecting and caring for children. “What is even worse is to see this incident happening a day after we concluded the National Child Protection Week, which is aimed at encouraging parents and other caretakers to always ensure that children are protected.,” she said.
SANParks Hyland to lead Lions onward divorces CEO ■ Billy Sibuyi
■ Billy Sibuyi The South African National Parks (SANParks) Board terminated the relationship between the CEO, Fundisile Mketeni, and SANParks after recommendations by an independent Senior Counsel who chaired the disciplinary process. This was after SANParks informed the public that the disciplinary enquiry against its Chief Executive Officer had now been finalized. This followed an incident in July 2021, where the SANParks board initiated a disciplinary process against their then CEO, Mketeni, and according to them the process was chaired by an independent professional, which resulted in a ruling and recommended sanction being delivered to the Board in May 2022. The Board met on Wednesday, the 1st of June 2022, to deliberate on the outcome of the disciplinary process, such as the ruling and finding on the sanction, and, in line with the recommendation of the independent senior counsel who chaired the process “it has determined that the relationship between the CEO and SANParks will be terminated with immediate effect, as of the 1st of June 2022.” Mketeni was found guilty of six charges, including sexual harassment as he was under investigation since 2021 by the independent lawyers appointed by SANParks. The probe related to a complaint by a woman, who was employed at the Selati Train Station, who was assaulted for allegedly refusing Mketeni’s sexual advances. The findings by the independent lawyers revealed that Mketeni embarrassed, damaged the name of SANParks which is responsible for managing the country’s national parks, and breached the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct Policy and the Disciplinary Policy and Procedure of SANParks.

There is nothing like sax in the bush The usual tranquil night-sounds of the Masorini in the Kruger National Park were accented by saxophone and acoustic guitar tones over the weekend of May the 27th and the 28th. This was when the Phalaborwa Care Buddies and the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) Bushveld Region hosted the popular “Sax Under the Stars” showcase. The show was an annual event until the Covid-19 pandemic caused its cancellation. The organisers are now hopeful that it will continue once again as an annual event. The well-known saxophonist, Rike Coetzer, provided warm, soothing sounds throughout the evening while CH2, the virtuoso
guitar duo of Corneille Hutton and Christiaan Jacobsz, entertained the guests on a wide variety of acoustic guitar music that had all the guests in awe. The evening was sponsored by Total Energies through their Phalaborwa outlet as well as OK Minimark Phalaborwa. All proceeds were in aid of the Care Buddies feeding programme and the SANParks Honorary Rangers, Bushveld Region. Nico Kleyn, vice chairperson of the SHR Bushveld Region, thanked all the guests who attended the event, with many travelling from as far as Gauteng, as well as the sponsors who made the weekend possible.
Present during the Sax Under the Stars show at Masorini in the Kruger National Park are Sanjeev Sheosanker, Nico Kleyn, Ingrid Bausmerth, Christiaan Jacobsz of the group CH2, Pierre Engelbrecht and Jan Bothma, Chairman of Care Buddies Phalaborwa. Her place left empty ■ Joe Dreyer Tzaneen mourns the loss of a beloved member of the community as the news of the death of Lisa-Mari Stoltz (38) tunnelled its way through the hearts of everyone who knew her. “We are devastated to announce the death of Lisa-Mari Stoltz (née Cilliers), 38 years of age. Lisa was born and lived her life in Tzaneen, went to school at Unicorn and Merensky, and was a much loved member of this small community. Lisa worked closely with her father, Jan Cilliers, and husband Brendon Stotlz, as a director at Vision on Line,” her family announced. Sadly, Lisa died on the 31st May 2022 from complications in surgery. She leaves behind her husband Brendon, two precious daughters Amelia and Erinn, parents Jan and Erika, sisters Claire and Gabi, and the rest of her loving family and close friends. “Lisa was a kind, sympathetic and caring person. Beautiful both inside and out. She was always willing to help and give of her own time. She was a strong woman who loved her family fiercely with every fibre of her being. She loved her Creator and applied Biblical principles in her daily life. She has been an example to us all, to continue showing love and kindness regardless of the difficult times we may face. Lisa lived her life giving unconditionally to others, may we all strive to do the same.” The family would like to express their heartfelt

Rus sag Henco ■ Joe Dreyer Henco Minnaar is Saterdagaand in ‘n gru-ongeluk oorlede. Hy was 24 jaar oud.

Simoné and Sumaré Erasmus are two models from the Phalaborwa branch of Amonè Modelling Academy. Both are learners from Laerskool Phalaborwa, who took part in an international pageant, Little Model Earth in Zanzibar, Tanzania from the 14th to the 21st of April. Being new to the industry it was both nerve wrecking and exiting for the two young girls to compete. Both these models only started their modelling career in May 2021. It took some hard work and dedication, but they pulled through and brought two of the big titles of this pageant back to South Africa. Simonè won her category and the Mini Model Earth Grand Prix 2022 title whilst her sister, Sumarè won an overall title, Little Model Earth Junior Super Grand Prix. “Sumarè and Simonè made me so proud! They worked hard. They were dedicated, never missed a class and even in their lowest times they never gave up and that is what matters the most”, said Mianel du Plooy, the coach at Amonè Modelling Academy Phalaborwa. The Little Model Earth International was hosted by Amanda Kriel. Mianel du Plooy, a Grade 10 learner from Ben Vorster High School represented South Africa at the prestigious Little Miss and Mr Galaxy in Bansko, Bulgaria, from the 1st until the 8th of April hosted by Irina Papazova. Du Plooy competed against other girls aged from 4 to 18 years from various other countries and won Teen Miss Galaxy Grand Prix 2022. All of this would not have been possible without the guidance of Amanda Kriel, who is not only her National Director but also her mentor. Mianel also won the title for the Best in Evening Wear. The pageant had different divisions in which du Plooy had to compete which were interview, talent performances, themed outfits, fashion outfits, national wear and evening wear. Du Plooy has represented her country on more than one occasion and holds more than 10 international titles. Bringing another title home to South Africa meant a lot to her. She has worked hard and put in many hours of work and even when Covid-19 hit the world, she never backed down, but kept pushing herself to be even better.

Vakansie-oord rolbal groei in gewildheid
Lede en vakansiegangers geniet altyd ‘n kans vir ‘n potjie rolbal by ATKV Eiland Rolbalklub.

A total of 15 tennis players entered for Tzaneen Tennis Club’s second event of the year, a handicap tournament, on Saturday the 4th of June. This contest was won by Fleurette Andrews who took on JC van Rensburg in the final match. The tennis club’s management saw it fit to host a handicap competition for its members which was a great mechanism to level the playing field as it enabled the novice players to test their skills against the more experienced players of the club. In this unique tournament format, each player received a handicap. The third placed player was Craig Johnson with Alan Davison who took the fourth spot. The top five was rounded off by Brian Johnson. The club’s players are now setting their sights on the upcoming Club Championship which is scheduled to take place in July. By the time this tournament starts, all the players of the club will be officially ranked.
The club’s committee and all its members are working hard behind the scenes to ensure the club’s good standing. Funds have been allocated to the club as part of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. The management of the tennis club remains hopeful that these funds will aid their plans to install even more upgrades to the facilities once it is released. The Tzaneen Tennis Club remains committed to furthering the development of the sport in Tzaneen and surrounding areas. Tzaneen Tennis Club would like to invite all interested players to contact the club’s treasurer, James Excell, on 084 852 2688.
Reenen Bergmann and Gerrit Boersma
Fleurette Andrew was the winner of the handicap tournament.
‘Baby Badgers’ flex muscles for final fight
The ‘Baby Badgers’.
On Saturday the 4th of June the U/15A and first rugby teams from Stanford Lake College (SLC) travelled to Polokwane to play in the 4th division of the Limpopo League semi-final rounds. The U/15 ‘Baby Badgers’ have since the start of the schools rugby season developed as a tight unit over the past few weeks and the match against the team of Eric Louw High School from Musina was quite an anticipated match for the Stanfordian supporters. According to Beth Coetzee, head of marketing at Stanford Lake College, this game was a typical example of a final rugby match, with neither side scoring any points until the 59th minute, and despite all 30 rugby players who gave their absolutely best to secure points. In the dying moments of this semi-final encounter, was it the ‘Baby Badgers’ who just managed to edge out their rivals by scoring the first and only try of the game to win by 7-0 and progressed to the final which is set to take place in Polokwane on Saturday the 11th of June. The ‘Baby Badgers’ will be up
against the side from Northern Academy from Polokwane, with the matches to take place at Curro Heuwelkruin. The first team players of SLC were also up against the team from Eric Louw in their semi-final clash. Having lost to the Musina boys early in the season, it was deemed to be a tussle of note. However, for most of the game it was a tightly contested affair with tries a-plenty from both teams. Unfortunately, in the last quarter, despite the Badgers showing a ton of courage, the superior size and pace of the Eric Louw players led to a few runaway tries. The Stanford lads never gave up, however, and managed to not only score the final try of the match, but the conversion was successfully taken by tighthead prop and Vice-Captain, Xilombe Ndlopfu. Eric Louw won the match with a score of 51-32. The first team of Eric Louw will now play in the final against the side from Hoërskool Warmbad. All the final matches from the fourth division are set to be played at Curro Heuwelkruin in Polokwane.
