A female Premier?

Limpopo will soon have a woman as its Premier. This after the decision to deploy the recently elected Provincial deputy chairperson, Florence Radzilana, on Monday during the sitting of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC). It was also resolved to nominate current chairperson Stanley Mathabatha as the national chairperson in the upcoming national conference in December.

The decision by the PEC to deploy the officials elected during the provincial conference came in the wake of the recent reshuffling of cabinet where Dickson Masemola was moved to Transport while Polly Boshielo was deployed from Education to Social Development replacing Nkakareng Rakgoale. The deployment of Radzilana will result in another cabinet reshuffle which insiders project to be preparations for the appointment of a female premier.

The paramedics said that 15 people had suffered serious injuries when the taxi, which was allegedly overloaded, collided head on with a bakkie. The allegations were neither confirmed nor denied by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson, Tidimalo AccordingChuene.toChuene, the minibus taxi which was overtaking when it collided head on with a Ford bakkie. She said the accident happened at around lunchtime on the R71 road near Thavelani lodge, in the Mopani District. “Reckless and negligent driving are cited as possible causes of the accident,” explained Chuene.

were declared dead upon impact and two injured following a horror accident on the N1 bypass Polokwane, close to the Mall of the North on Tuesday morning, the 8th September.

According to the police spokesperson, Sgt Prince Mongwe, preliminary investigations show that the Toyota Legend was being driven recklessly. “We are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving and alcohol cannot be ruled out in a case like that,” stated Mongwe.

The Phalaborwa Police could not rule out driving under the influence as the cause of an accident between a bakkie and a truck on Copper Road on Wednesday evening, the 7th of September.

It will be the first time a woman was elected as the premier since in 1994, from the Bapedi ethnic group, and this resulted in disharmony among several factions within the ruling ANC party. The election of Mathabatha will see the position of the premier left vacant as Mathabatha would move to Luthuli House full time to perform the duties of the national chairperson.

N1 crash claims nine

This comes after a Toyota Fortuner lost control and crashed into an oncoming truck, killing all nine occupants of the Fortuner, including two children. Authorities believe that fatigue was suspected as possible cause of the accident.

The first premier of Limpopo was Ngoako Ramathlodi who was replaced by a medical doctor, Sello Moloto. Moloto was succeeded by Castle Mathale, who was later succeeded by Stanley Mathabatha who was then the ambassador to the Ukraine. All the premiers served for two terms.

At the time of going to print, there had not been any new developments in the story and the police had not made any arrests.

The two occupants of the truck sustained injuries and were transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention. The Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Polly Boshielo, sent her condolences to the bereaved families.

In June, about 800 boys from Ba-Phalaborwa were rounded up, taken into the mountains and ritually circumcised. The boys were marking the transition from boyhood to manhood in the traditional way of going to the mountains and returning two months later as men.

While the vehicles were chasing through the streets, bundles of money were thrown in the air for members of the public to pick up.

The Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba led a team of health practitioners to Phalaborwa to perform the second leg of voluntary medical male circumcision procedures on Thursday, the 1st of September. The team included Urologists Dr Puleng Masegela and Dr Sydney Moroatshehla, and a Urology Medical officer, Dr PM Maake.

Six people were killed and 11 passengers injured in a head-on-collision involving a taxi and a double cab bakkie on the R71 on Friday last week, the 2nd of September. It was reported that two people died on the scene between the Selwane turnoff and Ngulube Lodge, and four more later in hospital, bringing the count to six.

The paramedics reported that they transported the driver of the Toyota to Marula Med with critical injuries. The accident happened near Sefapane Lodge.

Parents have now called to their community leader, Chief Maseke, who according to them was the one who called the traditional initiation school from Tzaneen, to refund them their R2 600 each, which they had to pay. R1600 was for the traditional doctor who botched the circumcision and the R1000 was for a caretaker, who according to the parents would make sure their boys were well fed and taken care of.

One suspect was injured in a cash in transit robbery at Khujwana near the Global Garage on Wednesday afternoon just after 17:00. Reportedly the robbery occurred shortly after a security company cash truck had collected a drop from one of the businesses in the area and was traveling towards Lenyenye.

riaan@farnorthbulletin.co.za

The cash truck was first bombed with dynamite after it was forced off the road by the suspects in a Mercedes Benz sedan. The cash was stolen after the guards fled from the scene under a hail of gunfire. The vehicle in which the suspects were traveling, was also bombed before the gang fled in two bakkies into the direction of Lenyenye.

He said that the driver of the Toyota, prior to the collision with the truck, had allegedly hit three other vehicles at one of the fuel stations in Phalaborwa, before fleeing the scene. “We are still busy with the statement, but we have heard that the vehicle was involved in a hit and run, after it allegedly bumped three vehicles at Engen Garage,” Mongwe told Bulletin.

According to eyewitnesses, a driver of a bakkie was traveling up Peace Street from the direction of the CBD and seemingly lost control over the vehicle which then ploughed into a parked sedan opposite Meet and Greet restaurant. The bakkie then mounted the curb and struck two pe-

He then closed the door carefully, took cover in the bushes, and waited for the armed response officer to do their inspection of the property. Once the officer left, he entered the home and spent two hours attempting to break a safe from the wall before leaving empty handed.

The homeowner reported that the man entered his yard while he and his family were away, entered the garden shed and took from it a spade, a pick, and an axe. The suspect used the tools to break open the lock of a glass sliding door at the side of the home which triggered the alarm system.

Earlier that same week a robbery from a business in Aqua Avenue was reported with similar modus operandi by the suspects. This time however, there were two suspects and they made off with laptops. It was reported that the men, after stealing the laptops, jumped the fence into a neighbouring property and casually walked away even greeting some of the workers arriving for work that morning as they passed.

He also defended the selection of Mashatile. Machaka added that Mashatile was now the acting Secretary, the Deputy Secretary and the national treasurer.

One man lost his life and a woman sustained serious injuries when a parked vehicle was struck by a bakkie in Peace Street which sent the vehicle into two pedestrians walking along the sidewalk. The horrific accident took place on Tuesday morning at around 07:30 on the corner of Peace and Windsor Streets and was witnessed by a number of passerby in the area at the time.

The deceased was crushed against a wall by the bakkie where it eventually came to a standstill. The parked sedan was not occupied. Both vehicles were written off in the accident. According to Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu, communications officer for Tzaneen SAPS, they are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide. The SAPS could not give any specific details at the time of going to print and it was not certain what caused the driver to lose control over the vehicle.
