The legacy of The Clean Team will continue after the business and personnel were taken over and incorporated into the spring cleaning specialists, Vurhonga Cleaning Services, which is owned by Sophie Shilaluke
The Clean Team was formerly under the ownership and management of the late Eugene ‘Oupa Gene’ Coetzee, who passed away on the 24th of September after a lengthy bout with diabetes, and his wife Yvonne.
Shilaluke, who is a colleague of the Coetzee’s, established Vurhonga Cleaning Services at the start of 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic. It was during this pandemic that Shilaluke approached the Coetzee’s for some business advice. Their meeting turned out to form a formidable business partnership.
Vurhonga Cleaning Services was geared with equipment to spesialise in spring cleaning and the Coetzee’s outsourced this division of their own business, to Vurhonga. This sound partnership lasted for three years until Eugene’s passing.
The only change is that The Clean Team will from now on operate under the banner of Vurhonga Cleaning Services, but with the same passion and professionalism.
“We are all saddened by the passing of our colleague and friend Eugene. I have learned so much from him and his wife, Yvonne. The staff and I are committed to continue his legacy in the cleaning industry in this area in delivering the same great service to our customers,” said Shilaluke.
Vurhonga Cleaning Services can be followed on their Facebook page, and Sophie Shilaluke can be contacted at 071 004 0812. The services they offer include cleaning of couches, carpets and mattresses, Spring cleaning, sanitizing and disinfection, cleaning of curtains and blinds, toilet paper supply, roof and paving wash and extensive window clean.
Vurhonga Cleaning Services is open from 07:00 until 17:00 from Monday to Friday.
The Palabora Mining Company (PMC) has made significant strides towards building a sustainable supply chain and maintaining a seamless movement of goods by upgrading their railway at the mine. This does not only sharpen their competitive edge but positions them as a key hub for shipping raw minerals with less effort.
This move should also relieve the high truck traffic volumes on the roads around Phalaborwa which has caused some significant damage to infrastructure and has been linked to road accidents in the past.
PMC and Transnet executives launched the upgraded railway at the mine after the infrastructure upgrade project started in 2021 and a year later, on the 29th of September, the upgraded railway has been launched.
This now means raw minerals will be transported by train from Phalaborwa to Richards Bay in Durban or Maputo in Mozambique, without having production coming to halt. According to the PMC Transformation and Stakeholder Engagement Communications personnel, Zani Kutumela, the upgraded railway offers a tailor-made solution that satisfies the business and customer needs, and ensures sustainability for the community of Ba-Phalaborwa.
“Railway freight is one of the oldest and most efficient forms of cargo transportation as it carries a wide range of bulk commodities such as but not limited to; construction materials, food, chemicals, equipment, metals, and now newly added to the list is PMC’s magnetite,” said Kutumela.
The PMC logistics team which was led by the Senior Manager of Supply Chain and Logistics, Sanda Zungu, together with the PMC projects team which was led by Zakes Malepe, and the general manager of asset management, collaborated to tackle the railway capacity expansion on site, which involved optimizing its design with a 4 kilometre extension, and enabling it to load and clear 80 wagons in one trip, to the maximum of five train trips a day.
“This expansion means improved efficiency at the loading facilities and reduced magnetite cost of sales for the business. Our new tracks are laid to accommodate the Transnet locomotives. Transnet transfers are now able to collect magnetite and vermiculite directly from the exchange yard and out to the Maputo or Richards Bay ports without breakage,” Kutumela concluded.
Tzaneen is fed up. Despite frequent power outages coinciding with harsh loadshedding schedules, large portions of the already embattled community sit without water. DA Ward Councillor for Ward 15, Chrizelle Dreyer met with the municipal manager and the directors for water management and engineering services earlier this week to find a solution. On the agenda was the seemingly unsolvable issue of the private water tankers who continue illegally drawing water from water hydrants in the suburbs and the industrial area unabated.
“Several possible solutions were tabled and management will deliberate and give feedback,” Dreyer said. “One of the biggest problems the GTM is facing is that they are not getting the support from Mopani District Municipality who sit at the helm of responsibility as the water authority.”
An emergency water interruption notice was sent out on Wednesday stating the George’s Valley plant would shut down on the 12th and 13th of October to repair the raw water pipeline from Greater Letaba River to the purification plant. Some households don’t have any water, even after the repairs were completed on Wednesday.
“The residents are highly frustrated because they do not have water and there is no proper feedback from the municipality. Another major issue for the residents was the lack of adequate and timeous notice of the repairs which only sent out the afternoon before the work would commence. This left people unable to put plans in place,” Dreyer added.
“I can assure you that I am doing my best to communicate with the residents in a timely manner as I receive the information from the water department. We cannot shy away from responsibility, and I will keep on trying to find solutions and work with the community and municipality to forge a way through this situation.”
Councillor Dreyer has also been in discussions with the relevant managers at the GTM to find a solution to end the water tanker situation before it reaches a point where citizens take the law into their own hands. Bulletin has in the past reported on the situation numerous times and we have information at our disposal that these water tankers are drawing the water from the hydrants for free and reselling it in the townships.
This is a developing story and we will publish regular follow ups on the matter.
The former Head of Ranger Services in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Anton Mzimba, was posthumously named the winner of the Best Game Ranger at the prestigious 2022 African Conservation Awards at the African Rangers Congress in Botswana last month.
Mzimba who started his career at Timbavati Private Nature Reserve as a general worker in the mid-90’s where he fixed roads, built gabions, maintained fences, and completed the daily tasks required of a general labourer, has always strived to be a ranger and over the next 25 years, he rose through the ranks, progressing from ranger to Corporal, Sergeant, and finally becoming Head of Ranger Services.
Besides the numerous accolades and press, Mzimbas’s greatest gift was his ability to lead and inspire the people from the local communities that border Kruger National Park. Mzimba led by example, working to change the stigma that conservation was a wealthy minority’s privilege, and instead a birthright to all of humanity, from all backgrounds, races and cultures. He believed in developing his team and wanted both local men and women to have the opportunity to climb the ranks into leadership roles.
However, on the 26th of July 2022, he was assassinated outside his home by three gunmen alleged to be linked to poaching syndicates, paying the ultimate sacrifice for being a ranger and a leader on the front lines of the rhino poaching war.
The awards are an annual celebration to honour the courageous men and women who are committed to protecting Africa’s natural spaces and in doing so, raise awareness of the critical and diverse work they do to ensure that the wildlife and wild places are safeguarded for genera-
tions to come.
The event was hosted by the Game Rangers Association of Africa in Kasane, Botswana, where rangers from across Africa gathered to share experiences and Colin Rowles, a reserve warden at Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, was named as a joined runner-up to Mzimba as the best game ranger at the African Conservation Awards. Rowles and Leonardo Gungalo, Field Ranger Support Manager, Oceans Without Borders, Mozambique, were

I applaud the fact that you are now honoring all the heroes of biodiversity beyond the rhino alone. National, international, and provincial champion fighters are gearing up for a clash of Titans this coming November at Champs Boxing Academy in Tzaneen. The much anticipated tournament titled Fight Night 3 will see champions from Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and Swaziland exchange leather in the square for the ultimate test of mental and physical dexterity.
malanga, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and put
These champions will put their boxing skills to the test against champions from the Commonwealth Games, and the South African National Championships. Also in the ring will be boxers who excelled in the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham earlier this year. The Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President, Webster Lukhele said this was a much-needed test for the Swaziland boxers ahead of the Region 5 Youth Games penned for December.
This after the Swaziland team had a disappointing exit from the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Boxing Championships where they were stopped in
the early elimination rounds. Lukhele said the competition was a perfect opportunity for their boxers
to polish up their fighting tactics.
Meanwhile, Swaziland’s senior national boxer, Thabiso Dlamini, assured his readiness for the South African Fight Night 3. “I’m looking forward to the tournament since I’m preparing for next year’s Olympic Qualifiers. After the injury in Mozambique, I didn’t stop training. I can’t wait for the
wait tournament.”
Locally, tournament organizer and head coach at Champs Boxing Academy, Gerhard ‘Soutie’ Rossouw assured fans that it will be an extravaganza of worldclass boxing come the 5th of November. “It is not often that Tzaneen will have the opportunity to watch Olympic boxers step into the ring. Gauteng and North West as well as Mpumalanga have all confirmed their spots at Fight Night 3 and our official media partner, Far North Bulletin have confirmed that the fights will once again be streamed live across the FNBC Youtube channel. If you like top-class boxing, you really don’t want
Tzaneen will have the opboxers step into the ring. North West
have all confirmed their FNBC Youtube to miss this!”
Oooo.
Toe sê kommesaris; “As dit ‘n spook is, sal jou HARE, rys.”
Vra my vandag nog hoe ek by ontvangs op die grondvloer uitgekom het...of liewer moenie my vra nie, want dis soos wiskunde.
So twee keer van Wiskunde geskryf. It was little van der Merwe’s first day at school. He comes home after school and his father says; “So, what did you learn at school today. The boy says, “Ag, you know. some Afrikaans, some English and some Algebra.”
His father asks; “What is Algebra?”
He says, “Algebra. You know... pie is square.”
His father says, “Don’t be stupid.
Pie is round... bread is square.”
It was a dazzling clash between the men’s and women’s selected pairs sides at Tzaneen Bowls Club on Saturday and Sunday the 8th and 9th of October. In the Men’s Pairs there were nine teams split up into three groups of three pairs per group. The top team from each group went through to the semi-final. The pair that had the best aggregate going straight to the final round were Theo Wolmarans and Bennie Mundell.
On Sunday, Wolmarans and Mundell, took on Ally Morrison and Jorge Freitas in the final round. It was eventually the pair of Wolmarans and Mundell who had the upper hand and went on to clinch the 2022
Tzaneen Bowls Men’s Pairs title.
The women’s division saw five teams playing in a round-robin format against one another. All five the teams won two games each. The winners were determined by the best aggregate score over the two days of competition.
The final score proved to be quite a tight affair between the teams, but it was eventually Terry Morgan and Adriana Jacobs who topped the score sheet to be crowned as the 2022 Women’s Pairs champs.
With the aggregate scores being so close, the runners-up position ended in a tie with Sue Morrison and teammate Marushca Swiglaar sharing the spot with Elsje Beyer and Benita Lepart.
Tzaneen Country Club set the scene for the popular annual charity golf day presented through the collaboration by Smit & Kie Brokers and the Paint Pot Group in Tzaneen. This year’s event was hosted on the 7th of October.
The two-ball pair of Walter Herfurth and Gert van Zyl emerged as the eventual winners. Frikkie Opperman teamed up with Juan Vorster and had a good round of play amidst the fierce competition in searing conditions. They eventually settled
for second place. In third place were Ockert Maritz and Matie McCallaghan.
The prize for the player who recorded the longest drive of the day was handed to Ryan Hyde with Tiaan Fullard winning the prizes for the ‘Zookeeper of the Day’ and for the player closest to the pin. The award for the top sponsor for the day went to Luxor.
According to Janica Steyn from Paint Pot Tzaneen and one of the co-organisers of this Charity Golf Day, the proceeds of this event still needs to be determined and once that is done, the raised amount as well as the beneficiaries will be announced.
The first round of the Limpopo Impala’s Premier League for the 2022/2023 season started off this weekend on Sunday the 9th of October. The BB Motors Phoenix Cricket Club from Modjadjiskloof welcomed Nirvana Cricket Club from Polokwane for their first round encounter.
especially Rikhotso who set the tone for a superb innings for his side. He racked up 55 runs from 53 balls which included six fours and one six with a strike rate of 104. He was well supported by Kotze who contributed 28 runs before being caught by a Nirvana fielder.
The home side started off their campaign with a convincing win when they beat their visitors by 74 runs. Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a formidable target of 181 runs for Nirvana’s batsmen to chase after.
Their opening batsmen, Ntlylso Chauke (13 runs) and Imran Badar (27 runs), set the early tone for some more great batting to come. The searing heat did not seem to bother the Phoenix assault which left the Nirvana bowlers struggling to contain the boundary whoppers which came fast and frequently. Kian Loughor-Clark was in next and added 17 runs before he was bowled out.
Batting lower down the order does not necessarily mean players are less talented, in fact, the next batsmen in the line-up, JJ Kotze and Mikateko Rikhotso, properly frustrated the visitors. It was

After the departure of Kotze, Rikhotso batted on, but was a bit on the lonely side as Nirvana’s bowling dismantled the tail end of the Phoenix batting lineup.
It was up to the Phoenix bowlers to prevent Nirvana’s batsmen reaching the set target. They stamped their authority down on the visiting batsmen who were gasping for runs and eventually bundled all out for 107.
The wicket takers for Phoenix were Rainart Schoonbee (2/17 in 4 overs), Imran Badar (2/7 in 3 overs), SJ Kaber (2/6 in 3 overs) and Jonty Brown (2/24 in 5 overs). Akani Mongwe and Mikateko Rikhotso claimed one wicket each to help consolidate the win.

The Phoenix Promotional League team had to travel for their match against the Phalaborwa Cricket Club who put an end to the Phoenix victory run when they batted first and posted 154 runs all out. This score proved to be enough to claim victory.
