Formentera Formentera, la isla luminosa Formentera, la isla luminosa A la llegada a Formentera, bañada por una luz sin par e impregnada de los aromas de mar, pinos y hierbas silvestres, se intuye inmediatamente que esta isla es distinta a todo lo que la mayoría de los turistas conoce. Esta pequeña extensión de tierra, que tiene 18 km. de longitud y no llega a dos kilómetros de anchura en algunos puntos, ofrece una mezcla incomparable de naturaleza, historia y el encanto de un antiguo paraíso hippie.

Es famosa por sus hermosas playas de arena fina con aguas cristalinas color turquesa.

La puerta a Formentera es La Savina, un pequeño pueblo portuario que es el escenario de todas las bienvenidas y despedidas y el único sitio donde atracan los barcos provenientes de Ibiza. Recibe su nombre de la conífera que caracteriza el paisaje, parco pero

cautivador, de la isla. En el extremo Este del puerto, donde anclan los yates y las embarcaciones deportivas, se respira cierto aire de lujo.

La población principal de Formentera es Sant Francesc. Merece la pena darse una vuelta por su extensa zona peatonal o visitar el Museo Etnológico donde se exhiben herramientas agrícolas y de pesca. También tiene interés la iglesia fortificada delante de la cual los sábados a partir de las 10 de la noche se toca música jazz.

Sant Ferran está situado en el centro de la isla. Fue antaño el núcleo del movimiento hippie. Ahora encontrará allí una maravillosa mezcla de restaurantes, bares y gente de todas las edades.

Hay música ante la iglesia cada viernes noche.

Es Pujols es el centro turístico de la isla con un hermoso paseo marítimo con numerosos bares y restaurantes los que, además de una amplia variedad gastronómica, ofrecen a sus clientes espectaculares vistas al mar. En temporada alta, se llena de vida y ajetreo – en especial por la noche - sin que este bullicio llegue a agobiar, y la cala con su playa tiene mucho encanto. Las noches de los jueves la música de una banda local anima el ambiente en la Plaza de España.

Los Molinos de viento Se yerguen con sobria belleza, contorno redondo y tejado cónico y recuerdan su pasado, cuando fueron lugares de producción y depósito de un bien muy preciado. Sus aspas de madera, movidas por el viento del mar, impulsaban la economía de la isla. Hoy día, los molinos de harina dan testimonio de los tiempos antiguos. En Sant Francesc se encuentran el “Molí d‘en Mateu”, construido en 1773, y el “Molí d‘en Gerona” que data de 1760. En Sant Ferran se conserva el “Molí d‘en Tauet” que se instaló en 1760. Dos de los molinos en La Mola datan del año 1893 y de uno de ellos sólo perdura la torre. Una de las historias más bonitas es la del formenterense Juan Moliner: El “Molí Vell de La Mola” perteneció a su familia a lo largo de 200 años y él mismo lo explotó hasta 1956. Se dice que, en 1968, se lo alquiló a un hombre que logró alcanzar fama mundial: Bob Dylan. Los isleños cuentan del sonido de las guitarras que llenaba el viejo molino, de las melodías que traspasaban los centenarios muros, entre ellas, tal vez, “Blowin’ in the Wind”…

Las Playas de Formentera Formentera atesora algunas de las playas más bellas del Mediterráneo. Su belleza natural aún sin explotar, su arena blanca y aguas cristalinas de color turquesa son dignas rivales de cualquier playa del Caribe. Para quienes buscan movimiento, hay un sinfín de actividades para hacer: jugar a voley playa, hacer surf o vela, bucear e incluso alquilar un patín acuático y contemplar la isla desde el mar. O quizás prefieras pasar un día tranquilo y en familia en alguna de sus largas y anchas playas, como la de Migjorn (con 6 km. de longitud, es la más larga de Formentera), o la de Llevant. Los amantes del sol acuden a admirar la espectacular belleza de la playa de Ses Illetes, donde puedes

pasearte por las aguas color turquesa y quizás hasta veas a alguien rico y famoso. También puedes tomarte el tiempo de explorar las numerosas, minúsculas y preciosas calas que hay repartidas por toda la isla, como Cala Saona, Es Caló o Caló d’es Mort, por nombrar sólo unas cuantas.

Al pie de la meseta se encuentra Es Caló, un pequeño puerto natural con restaurantes que ofrecen románticas vistas al mar. La carretera termina en el faro de El Pilar de la Mola, emplazado en lo alto del acantilado a 140 metros sobre el mar.

Pero si de verdad quieres vivir un día inolvidable, asegúrate una plaza en una lancha que te lleve a S’Espalmador, un pequeño islote en el extremo norte de Formentera. S’Espalmador cuenta con una bahía espectacular y playas de arena blanca.

Y cuando se pone el sol, uno de los mejores lugares para verlo es Es Cavall d’en Borràs. Busques lo que busques, en Formentera seguro que encontrarás tu pedacito de paraíso.

Salir a cenar Para ser una isla tan pequeña, Formentera cuenta con una estupenda selección de restaurantes y cafeterías, con más de 200 lugares donde escoger.

Tanto si te apetece un bocadillo y una cerveza en la playa, como si quieres darte un festín con langosta y champán, la oferta de los restaurantes de Formentera va desde la cocina española más sencilla hasta sabores exquisitos capaces de contentar el paladar más exigente.

Formentera Naturalmente, abundan el pescado fresco y el marisco, pero se pueden encontrar platos para todos los gustos.

Aunque mediterránea en su esencia, en Formentera también se preparan recetas de lo más exóticas: sushi de Japón, suculentas carnes de Argentina, enchiladas y burritos mexicanos, delicias chinas y una verdadera cocina italiana tan sabrosa que no parece de este mundo.

Pero no se trata tan sólo de la comida, porque también puedes elegir un restaurante según tu estado de ánimo.

Puede ser un lugar elegante o romántico, hasta con espectaculares vistas al mar. O quizás si buscas algo popular y con más ambiente, te apetece probar uno de los muchos bares de tapas. Si entras en alguno de ellos, no dejes de degustar el queso local y termina de cenar con un traguito de hierbas, la bebida digestiva típica elaborada con plantas aromáticas del lugar.

En Es Pujols el mercadillo abre por la tarde, y este año se ha trasladado del paseo marítimo a la Plaza de Europa. Del 9 de junio hasta el 9 de septiembre es todo un placer ir de compras por la mañana o por la tarde

paseando por el puerto de La Savina, y con un poco de suerte encontrar alguna que otra ganga. Tanto los isleños como los que ya conocen la isla tienen predilección por Sant Francesc para tomar el desayuno y hacer la compra diaria, pero también porque se organiza cada martes y sábado de 10 a 14 horas un mercadillo detrás de la iglesia. Otro punto de encuentro para los entendidos es Sant Ferran donde se celebra un mercadillo de arte cada tarde de 20 a 24 h, menos los miércoles y los domingos. Incluso se puede admirar in situ cómo los pintores plasman con sus pinceles la vida de esta bella isla.

Eso sí, te avisamos de que en temporada alta es imprescindible reservar.

Formentera, l’isola luminosa La luce è unica, come del resto l’odore del mare, del sale, delle pinete, delle erbe. Ci si accorge immediatamente che Formentera è un luogo diverso da quelli che tanti turisti sono abituati a conoscere. Questa piccola isola, che si estende per soli 18 chilometri, offre un insuperabile miscuglio di natura e storia.

Una terra modellata dai piccoli fiori, che la permeano del loro fascino. Un’isola famosa per le sue splendide spiagge e un mare color blu turchese.

La porta d’accesso di Formentera è La Savina, un piccolo porto che ospita tutti gli arrivi e le partenze, poiché il battello proveniente da Ibiza attracca solo lì. Il porto prende il nome dal tipo di pino che caratterizza lo scenario dell’isola, spoglio ma pittoresco. Nella zona est del porto grande un altro piccolo porto turistico dà l’idea del lusso.

La città principale di Formentera è Sant Francesc, con la sua ampia zona pedonale, ideale per concedersi una rilassante camminata. Il museo etnologico include macchinari agricoli, attrezzi per la pesca. La vecchia chiesa fortificata è un’altra perla da visitare, specialmente di sabato, quando dopo le 10 di sera si suona un po’ di jazz.

Sant Ferran è il centro dell‘isola. Un tempo era il cuore del movimento hippie di Formentera. Ora in quel luogo troverete uno splendido miscuglio di ristoranti e bar frequentati da gente di ogni età. Di fronte alla chiesa, ogni venerdì notte, c‘è tanta musica.

Es Pujols è il centro turistico dell’isola. Vanta un bellissimo lungomare con molti bar e ristoranti che offrono ai clienti un‘ampia selezione di cucine e spettacolari viste sul mare. Qui, durante l‘alta stagione, la vita pulsa – specialmente di notte – ma resta comunque gestibile e la spiaggia ha davvero tanto fascino.

Formentera Il giovedì notte una band musicale locale aggiunge atmosfera alla Plaza de España.

Ai piedi dell’altipiano si trova Es Calò, un piccolo porto naturale con alcuni ristoranti che offrono una bellissima vista sul mare. La strada termina con il faro di El Pilar de la Mola, situato su una scogliera 140 metri sopra il livello del mare.

I mulini a vento Stanno là, semplici e splendidi, con muri rotondi e tetti conici, ricordandosi del loro passato come luoghi di produzione e immagazzinaggio di beni preziosi. Le loro lame di legno erano mosse dai venti dell’oceano e diedero propulsione all’economia dell’isola.

Oggi questi molini ci ricordano di un’era che non c’è più. A Sant Francesc Xavier c’è, dal 1773, il “Molí d’en Mateu” e dal 1760 il “Molí d’en Gerona”. A Sant Ferrán il “Molí d’en Tauet” è sopravvissuto dal 1760. I due dei molini a vento a La Mola risalgono invece al 1893, sebbene solo la torre di uno dei due ancora sopravviva. Una delle più belle storie inerenti ai i mulini arriva da Juan Moliner, nativo di Formentera: il suo “Molí Vell de La Mola” era stato gestito dalla sua famiglia per quasi 200 anni, e lui stesso lo gestì fino al 1956. Nell’autunno del 1968, così narra la storia, lo affittò ad un uomo famoso in tutto il

mondo. Il suo nome era Bob Dylan. La gente del luogo ancrora racconta degli accordi di chitarra che riempivano i muri secolari della costruzione. Suonò forse “Blowin’ in the Wind”?

Le Spiagge Formentera è baciata da alcune delle più belle spiagge del Mediterraneo. Con la loro bellezza naturale e incontaminata, la sabbia e un cielo blu cristallino, sono in grado di competere con le spiagge dei Caraibi.

Per tutti coloro che cercano attività di vario tipo, ci sono molte cose da fare: giocare a beach-volley, fare surf, andare in barca, fare immersioni o affittare un pedalò e guardare l’isola direttamente dal mare. E’ anche possibile trascorrere una giornata rilassata con

la famiglia sulle lunghe e ampie spiagge di Platja de Migjorn (con i suoi sei chilometri è la spiaggia più lunga di Formentera) o Llevant. Coloro che adorano il sole possono raggiungere la sorprendente bellezza di Plajta Illetes, dove è possibile camminare in un mare color cobalto e persino incontrare qualche celebrità. O prendersi un po’ di tempo per esplorare le tante piccole e preziose spiagge sparse intorno all’isola. Come Cala Saona, Es Caló o Caló d’es Mort, per citarne solo alcune.

Per una giornata davvero indimenticabile fate un giro a Espalmador, una piccola isoletta sulla punta nord di Formentera. Espalmador vanta una splendida baia e spiagge di sabbia bianca.

Con più di 200 locali fra i quali scegliere, avrete solo l’imbarazzo della scelta. Ovviamente, pesce fresco e frutti di mare sono presenti in abbondanza, ma ogni gusto o sapore è preso in considerazione. Benchè essenzialmente Mediterraneo, a Formentera troverete cibo proveniente da tutti gli angoli del mondo; sushi dal Giappone, sontuose bistecche dall’Argentina; enchiladas e burritos messicani; delizie cinesi e fanatstici ristoranti italiani che servono cibo, genuino e tradizionale, letteralmente dell’altro mondo.

Certamente non solo il cibo orienterà la vostra scelta sul ristorante che possa meglio rispondere al vostro umore.

Sia che stiate cercando qualcosa di elegante o romantico, magari con una splendida vista mare, o che stiate cercando qualcosa di più vivace e tradizionale, perché non provare uno dei tanti tapas bar? Mentre siete là, non dimenticate di degustare il formaggio locale e terminare il vostro pasto con un bicchiere di hierbas, il liquore tipico della zona fatto con le erbe.

Attenzione, infine: In alta stagione è essenziale prenotare.

I Mercatini Hippie Ciò che resta dell’età dei fiori è rintracciabile in questi mercati colorati.

Ceramiche e vestiti batik, incensi e cinture fatte di conchiglie. Alcuni dei commercianti più anziani sono qui da quasi 40 anni, gli hippie di seconda generazione invece sono arrivati dopo.

E’ qui che la nostalgia incontra i souvenir, gli oggetti artigianali la musica. Il leggendario mercato de La Mola viene allestito ogni mercoledì e domenica dalle 4 di pomeriggio alle 9.30 di sera.

Di mattina, il centro di Sant Francesc ospita una collezione di bancarelle dove è possibile trovare gioielleria artigianale, moda colorata e scarpe estive e leggere. Il mercato di Es Pujols apre di pomeriggio e quest‘anno si è spo-

stato dalla parte anteriore della marina a Plaza de Europa. Dal 9 giugno al 9 settembre sarà davvero stimolante fare shopping lungo il porto della Savina e, con un po‘ di fortuna, fare un paio di buoni affari. I residenti dell‘isola e quelli che se ne intendono amano andare a Sant Francesc per fare colazione e una buona spesa di cibo, ma anche perché, dietro la chiesa, di martedì e sabato (fra le 10 di mattino e le 2 di pomeriggio), c‘è il mercato delle pulci. A Sant Ferran è possibile visitare ogni sera il mercato d‘arte (a parte il mercoledì e il sabato) dalle 8 di sera a mezzanotte.

Alcuni degli artisti dipingono addirittura dal vivo, catturando in diretta un piccolo frammento della vita di questa splendida isola.

Formentera Formentera, die leuchtende Insel Schon das Licht ist einmalig, und dieser Duft nach Meersalz, Pinien, Wildkräutern. Man ahnt sofort, dass Formentera anders ist als das, was viele Touristen kennen. Das Fleckchen Land, 18 Kilometer lang und teilweise kaum zwei Kilometer breit, bietet eine unvergleichbare Mischung aus Natur, Geschichte und dem Flair einer Insel, die Blumenkinder prägten. Es ist bekannt für seine traumhaften Sandstrände vor klarem Türkisblau.

Das Tor nach Formentera ist La Savina. Ein kleiner Hafenort, Bühne aller Ankünfte und Abschiede, nur hier legt die Fähre aus Ibiza an. Seinen Namen gab ihm ein Nadelgehölz, das die karge,

aber reizvolle Insellandschaft prägt.

Am östlichen Hafenrand verströmt eine kleine Marina eine Idee von Luxus, man sitzt in Cafés und genießt den Blick auf sein schaukelndes Boot.

Formenteras Hauptort ist Sant Francesc mit seiner weitläufigen Fußgängerzone, die zu einem Bummel einlädt. Das Ethnologische Museum zeigt Geräte aus Landwirtschaft und Fischfang, Gewürzmühlen, Instrumente und eine alte Dampflok, die früher einmal Salzloren zog. Sehenswert auch die Wehrkirche, vor der samstags ab 22 Uhr Jazz gespielt wird.

Sant Ferran befindet sich in der Inselmitte. Einst war es das Herz der Hippiebewegung in Formentera. Heute findet man hier eine reiche Auswahl an Restaurants, Bars und Menschen jeden Alters. Musik vor der Kirche gibt es jeden Freitag Abend.

Es Pujols ist das Touristenzentrum der Insel mit einer wunderschönen Promenade, an der Sie aus einer der zahlreichen Restaurants oder Bars den Ausblick auf das Meer genießen können. In der Saison pulsiert hier besonders nachts das Leben. Überschaubar bleibt es trotzdem, und die Badebucht hat reichlich Charme. Und donnerstags abends sorgt eine Inselband auf der Plaza España für gute Stimmung.

Die Windmühlen In schlichter Schönheit stehen sie da, mit runden Mauern und einem spitz zulaufenden Dach, einst Produktionsstätte und Speicher für ein wertvolles Gut. Ihre hölzernen Flügel drehten sich im Seewind und trieben die Inselwirtschaft an. Heute erzählen die Getreidemühlen von den alten Zeiten. In Sant Francesc Xavier stehen die „Molí d’en Mateu“ von

1773 und die „Molí d’en Gerona“ von 1760. In Sant Ferran hat sich die „Molí d’en Tauet“ aus dem Jahr 1760 gehalten. Zwei Mühlen auf La Mola stammen aus dem Jahr 1893, von einer ist nur der Turm geblieben.

Eine der schönsten Geschichten ist jene des Formenterensers Juan Moliner: Seine „Molí Vell de La Mola“ war rund 200 Jahre lang in Familienbesitz, er selbst betrieb sie noch bis 1956. Im Herbst 1968 soll er die alte Mühle an einen Mann vermietet haben, der es zu Weltruhm brachte. Sein Name: Bob Dylan. Einheimische berichten von Gitarrenklängen, die das alte Mauerwerk erfüllten. Vielleicht war auch „Blowin‘ in the Wind“ dabei.

Formenteras Strände Formentera ist mit einigen der schönsten Strände des Mittelmeeres gesegnet.

Mit ihrer natürlichen und unberührten Schönheit, dem weißen Sand und dem kristallklaren Meer müssen sie den Vergleich mit karibischen Stränden nicht scheuen.

Für alle, die Wassersportaktivitäten mögen, gibt es hier ein reichhaltiges Angebot: Sie können Strandvolleyball spielen, surfen, segeln, tauchen oder einfach ein Tretboot mieten, um die Insel vom Meer aus zu bewundern. Wer einen beschaulicheren Tag mit seiner

Familie verbringen möchte, sollte den Strand von Migjorn besuchen. Mit seinen sechs Kilometern Länge ist er einer der weitläufigsten Strände der Insel. Auch die Strand Llevant ist äußerst reizvoll. Sonnenanbeter werden sich am herrlichen Strand von Illetas wie im Paradies fühlen.

Am Fuß der Hochebene liegt Es Caló, ein kleiner Naturhafen mit Restaurants, die eine romantische Sicht über das Meer eröffnen. Die Straße, die einmal über die Insel führt, endet am Leuchtturm von El Pilar de la Mola, auf einer Steilküste 140 Meter über dem Meer.

Auch ein Bootsausflug nach Espalmador – eine kleine Insel an der Nordspitze Formenteras – wird Ihnen einen wirklich unvergesslichen Tag bescheren. Espalmador lockt mit herrlich weißen Sandstränden. Hippie-Märkte Bunte Märkte aus blumigen Zeiten, ein Hauch davon ist geblieben. Batikkleider und Töpferwaren, Räucherstäbchen und Muschelgürtel, manch bärtiger Händler verkauft hier seit 40 Jahren, junge Aussteiger kamen hinzu. Nostalgie trifft auf Souvenirs, Kunsthandwerk und Livemusik.

Legendär ist der Markt auf La Mola, mittwochs und sonntags von 16 bis 21:30 Uhr. Bunte Stände mit teils handgearbeitetem Schmuck, farbenfroher Sommermode sowie luftigen Sandalen etc. reihen sich morgens in Sant Francesc aneinander. Der Markt in Es Pujols findet abends statt und wird in diesem Jahr von der Strandpromenade auf den Plaza Europa verlegt. Vom 9. Juni bis 9.

September können Sie vormittags und abends über die Hafenpromenade von La Savina bummeln und das eine oder andere Schnäppchen erstehen. Insulaner und Individualisten treffen sich zum Frühstück und täglichen Einkauf in Sant Francesc.

Hinter der Kirche ist dienstags und samstags Flohmarkt, von 10 bis 14 Uhr. In Sant Ferran können Sie den Kunstmarkt besuchen, der jeden Abend, außer mittwochs und sonntags, von 20 bis 24 Uhr stattfindet.

Hier schwingen Maler sogar live ihre Pinsel, halten das Leben auf dieser schönen Insel fest.

Formentera, the luminous island The light there certainly is unique and so are the smell of sea salt, pine, wild herbs... You sense immediately that Formentera is different to all that which many tourists know. This small patch of land, 18 kilometres long and in parts not even two kilometres wide, offers an incomparable mixture of nature, history and the flair of an island shaped by flower children. It is famous for its beautiful beaches and turquoise blue sea.

The gateway into Formentera is La Savina, a small harbour and the stage for all arrivals and departures because the ferry from Ibiza only anchors here.

It gets its name from a pine tree that distinguishes the barren but picturesque landscape. At the eastern end of the port a small marina offers the impression of luxury. You can sit in cafés and enjoy the view of your boat rocking in the dock.

Sant Ferran is in the center of the island. It used to be the heart of the hippie movement in Formentera. Now you will find a wonderful blend of restaurants, bars and people of all ages. Every Friday night there is music in front of the church.

Es Pujols is the island’s tourist centre, boasting a lovely promenade with many bars and restraurants that offer their clients a wide selection of cuisines and spectacular views out to sea. During the high season life pulsates here – especially at night – but it still remains manageable and the beach has a lot of charm. On Thursday nights a local music band adds to the atmosphere on Plaza de España.

Formentera’s main town is Sant Francesc, with its ample pedestrian zone, where it’s well worth taking a stroll. The ethnological museum contains agricultural and fishing machines, spice grinders, instruments and an old steam engine that used to pull salt lorries. The old fortified church is also worth seeing, especially on Saturdays when jazz is played after 10 pm.

Formentera At the foot of the high plane is Es Caló, a small natural habour with restaurants offering a romantic view over the sea. The road that leads across the island ends by the lighthouse El Pilar de la Mola, on a cliff 140 meters above sea level.

The Windmills They stand there, simple and beautiful, with round walls and pointed roofs, remembering their past as former production and storage facilities for valuable goods. Their wooden blades were powered by the ocean winds and propelled the island’s economy. Today these mills are reminders of an earlier era. In Sant Francesc Xavier there are the “Molí d’en Mateu” from 1773 and the “Molí d’en Gerona” of 1760. In Sant Ferran the “Molí d’en Tauet” has survived since 1760. Two of the windmills at La Mola date from the year 1893, although only the tower of one survives to this day. One of the most wonderful stories about one of the windmills comes from native Formenteran Juan Moliner – his “Molí Vell de La Mola” was family-owned for almost 200 years, and he himself ran it until 1956. In autumn, 1968, as the story goes, he rented it to a man who was famous the world over – his name was Bob Dylan. Locals report about the guitar sounds that filled the old hallowed walls. Did he perhaps also play “Blowin’ in the Wind”?

The Beaches of Formentera Formentera is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. With their natural and unspoilt beauty, whiter sand and crystal clear blue sea they are a worthy rival to any of those in the Caribbean.

For those seeking activity there are plenty of things to do: play beach-volleyball, surf, sail, dive or even hire a pedalo and view the island from the sea. Or maybe spend a more relaxed day with the family on the long, wide beaches of Platja de Migjorn (at 6 km long it is the longest beach on Formentera) or Llevant. Sun worshipers flock to the stunning beauty

of Plajta Illetes where you can stroll by in the cobalt sea and you may even spot some of the rich and famous. Or take the time to explore the many tiny, precious beaches dotted around the island, like Cala Saona, Es Caló or Caló d’es Mort, to name but a few.

Nostalgia meets souvenirs, handicrafts and live music. The legendary market on La Mola happens on Wednesdays and Sundays from 4 pm to 9:30 pm. In the mornings, the center of Sant Francesc hosts a collection of stands where you can find artisan jewellery, colourful fashion and light summer shoes. Es Pujols market opens in the afternoons, and this year it has moved from the marine front to the Plaza de Europa. From the 9th of June to the 9th of September, it is quite a treat to go shopping along the Savina port, and with a bit of luck find a good deal or two. Island residents and those in the know love going to Sant Francesc for breakfast and food shopping, but also because a flea market is held behind the church on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. In Sant Ferran you can visit the art market every evening (except Wednesdays and Sundays) from 8 pm to midnight. Some of the artists even paint live, capturing a little slice of life on this beautiful island.
